IT was a small city of forty thousand people, surrounded by a quiet wilderness. When I made a recent trip there, I found amazing changes. Encourage now has one hundred and eight thousand people. There are two buildings, shopping centres and all the crowds and traffic jam. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem so small compared to the city's great size. The discovery of oil in alaska brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to alaska in a very short period to work on the pipeline. There is not enough housing or transportation. I think alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaska's need to decide how to develop their natural resources and mineral wealth without destroying the wilderness and harming the wildlife. What is decided on now will affect the generations to come. For today's lecture, i've brought along many of the pictures I usually show in my environmental science classes in my own university. First, i'll show you some pictures of alaska's wilderness, as IT is today. Then i'd like to outline my specific suggestions. Good afternoon.
根据第二段“Then, students reported how many days they had taken part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programs. After that, researchers asked students to describe their state of mind. For example, when given a statement such as “I start most days thinking that I will have a good day”, they could choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale (等级). (然后,学生们报告他们参加体育或艺术项目等课外活动的天数。之后,研究人员让学生描述他们的心理状态。例如,当被问及“我大多数日子开始时都认为自己会有美好的一天”这样的陈述时,他们可以在一个等级量表上选择自己同意的程度)”可知,学生在报告完参加课外活动的时间后,被要求在等级量表上报告自己的心理状态。故选C项。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (消极指标) of mental health, as earlier research had found that they tended to have higher levels of anxiety (焦虑) compared to boys.(他们预计女孩在心理健康的消极指标上得分会更高,因为早期的研究发现,与男孩相比,女孩往往有更高程度的焦虑)”可知,研究人员发现女孩本身心理健康消极指标得分更高、焦虑程度更高,过多屏幕时间会进一步影响心理健康,对她们危害更大。故选D项。

At the same time, 67% of students who didn’t take part in after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time. Together, this suggests high screen time among teenagers generally.(研究人员说,值得注意的是,即使在参加课外活动的学生中,46%的人仍然超过了建议的两小时屏幕使用时间。

根据第二段中“According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, women should aim for about 25 grams of fiber per day, while men should aim for about 38 grams. To calculate more exact numbers, the recommendation is 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories. Americans consume on average only 15 grams of fiber per day, so upping fiber is certainly a smart idea.(根据营养与饮食学会的说法,女性每天应该摄入约25克纤维,而男性每天应该摄入约38克纤维。为了计算出更精确的数字,建议每1000卡路里摄入14克纤维。美国人平均每天只摄入15克纤维,所以增加纤维摄入量无疑是个明智的主意)”可知,美国人平均每天摄入15克纤维,远低于建议的摄入量,这说明美国人在纤维摄入方面不足。故选A项。
根据第四段中““Like so many TikTok trends, this one has the potential for harm if not approached properly,” says dietitian Rosanne Rust, co-author of the forthcoming cookbook “The GLP-1Kitchen”. Rust explains that many of the trending videos propose “fibermaxxing” to help treat bloating (浮肿), however most people aren’t aware of how much fiber they are eating before they adopt this trend and then add 20 grams of fiber (or more) to their diet overnight.(“和TikTok上的许多潮流一样,如果不正确对待,这个潮流也有可能带来危害,”即将出版的烹饪书《The GLP-1Kitchen》的合著者、营养师罗珊娜·拉斯特说。拉斯特解释说,许多热门视频都建议采用“纤维最大化”来帮助治疗腹胀,然而大多数人在采用这种潮流之前并不知道自己摄入了多少纤维,然后一夜之间就在饮食中增加了20克(或更多)纤维)”可知,Rust认为纤维最大化的问题在于人们并不知道自己摄入了多少纤维,所以会不知不觉地过度摄入纤维。故选B项。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段““If you’re not sure how much fiber is right for you, a registered dietitian nutritionist can help guide you,” says Weiss.(“如果你不确定自己摄入多少纤维合适,注册营养师可以为你提供指导,”韦斯说)”可知,Weiss建议人们向注册营养师,即专家寻求关于均衡饮食的建议。故选C项。

One evening, seeing the lady clearing snow off her sidewalk, I made a decision. I walked over and offered to help. As we worked, I mentioned our Christmas tree and how much I admired her ornaments. She smiled warmly and invited me into her home. To my surprise, she had a box filled with extra ornaments that she no longer used. She handed it to me with a kind smile, saying, "Here, take these. I hope they'll make your tree just as beautiful as mine." With tears in my eyes, I thanked her profusely(不停地). That evening, my daughter was excited to decorate the tree , and it was truly a sight to behold(看见). Our third friend had helped us create a Christmas we would never forget.

M: Good afternoon, I want to thank Professor Johnson for giving me the chance to talk to you today about Alaska. One of the things that concern me most is the future of the Alaska environment. About twenty years ago, before going on some wilderness research, I visited Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. It was a small city of 40,000 people surrounded by a quiet wilderness. When I made a recent trip there, I found amazing changes. Anchorage now has a hundred and eight thousand people. There’re tall buildings, shopping centers and all the crowds and traffic jams. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem so small compared to the city’s great size. The discovery of oil in Alaska brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to Alaska in a very short period to work on the pipeline. There is not enough housing or transportation.
I think Alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaskans need to decide how to develop their natural resources and mineral wealth without destroying the wilderness and harming the wildlife. What is decided on now will affect the generations to come. For today’s lecture, I’ve brought along many of the pictures I usually show in my environmental science classes in my own university. First, I’ll show you some pictures of Alaska’s wilderness as it is today. Then I’d like to outline my specific suggestions.

Clubs in high school are amazing because they give you opportunities to find your passions(),connect with
others who have similar interests, and have fun!If your high school doesn't have a club that you're interested in,the best
thing to do is start your own.Use your brain and think outside of the box.

High school clubs usually fall into ten main categories()eight subject area clubs, hobby clubs, and charity clubs.
Subject area clubs are clubs that come from an interest in a subject area taught in school. There are eight subject area
club categories:Art,Drama,Film,Science,Math,Literature,History,and Language.
Hobby clubs are clubs that come from an interest in a hobby that most likely wouldn't be taught in high school (such as
chess,video games,and animation).
Charity clubs are clubs that are connected with a specific charity with the goal of raising awareness, working for that
charity,or raising money for that charity.
The category a certain club has been placed into is not important.I simply created these categories to organize this list.
No one category is better than another. It's best to create a club you're passionate about,no matter what the category.

Teenagers who spend more time on after-school activities and less than two hours of screen time after school are more
mentally healthy, according to a study published in the journal Preventive Medicine. The new study was carried out by
researchers from the University of British Columbia.
The study used information collected from more than 28,000 seventh-grade Canadian students between 2014 and 2018.
The students first answered questions about their usage of screen time after school, including how much time they spent
using their mobile phone, watching TV,Netflix,or something else. Then, students reported how many days they had taken
part in after-school activities such as sports or arts programs. After that, researchers asked students to describe their states of
mind. For example, when given a statement such as"I start most days thinking that I will have a good day",they could
choose to what level they agreed with it on a scale ()
Some of the results were expected, researchers said in the study.Students with no after-school activities usually had
high levels of screen time, for example. And they expected girls would score higher on negative indicators (of
mental health,as earlier research had found that they were likely to have higher levels of anxiety compared to boys.
What was noteworthy, researchers say,is that even among students who took part in after-school activities,46%still
went beyond the recommended screen time of two hours. At the same time,67%of students who didn't take part in
after-school activities also had more than two hours of screen time.Together, this suggests high screen time among
teenagers generally.
"The findings suggest that after-school activities are valuable for the happy growing of teenagers,"the study said.
"While past studies have proved the importance of after-school activities for social and academic (development,
the present study shows their importance for good mental health results."

30.What does the author want to show by using the numbers in Paragraph 4?
A.Earlier findings about screen time are wrong.

Move over protein;there's a new hot nutrient-fiber()!The social media trend of fibermaxxing focuses on eating
more fiber at meals and snacks.Like all trends ()it can be done correctly.Yet many on social media are doing it
incorrectly-and even dangerously.
The idea of fibermaxxing is to meet and even go beyond your daily fiber goals.According to the Academy of Nutrition
and Dietetics, women should aim for about 25 grams of fiber per day, while men should aim for about 38 grams. To work
out more exact numbers, the recommendation is 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories.Americans consume on average
only 15 grams of fiber per day,so upping fiber is certainly a smart idea.
As many people think more is better, some influencers(有影响力的人)are going all out on fibermaxxing with not
only foods like vegetables, fruit, beans, peas, nuts and seeds at meals and snacks, but also by adding various fiber
supplements(补充剂),which gets them above the recommended daily fiber amount.
“Like so many TikTok trends,.this one has the potential(可能性)for harm if not approached(处理)properly,”says
dietitian Rosanne Rust,co-author of the forthcoming cookbook "The GLP-IKitchen".Rust explains that many of the
trending videos suggest "fibermaxxing"to help treat bloating(),however most people aren't aware of how much fiber
they are eating before they adopt this trend and then add 20 grams of fiber(or more)to their diet overnight.
According to dietitian Liz Weiss, founder of Liz's Healthy Table, balance matters."People with certain medical
conditions often need to limit their fiber intake,"says Weiss. This is because high amounts of fiber can be difficult for their
systems to manage and may worsen symptoms ()
“If you're not sure how much fiber is right for you,a registered dietitian nutritionist(营养学家)can help guide you,”
says Weiss."Trends may come and go,but a well-balanced,whole-food diet will always stand the test of time."
32.What can we learn from the figures in Paragraph 2?
A.Americans are falling short on fiber intake.
B.Males have done better in fiber consumption.
C.The more fiber we have, the better our health is.
D.Average Americans consume fiber as recommended.
33.What is the problem with fibermaxxing according to Rust?
A.It spreads fast on social media.
B.People overdo it unknowingly.
C.Americans lack fiber because of it.
D.Influencers lie about its benefits.
34.What is Weiss's suggestion for people about a balanced diet?
A.To follow the latest trend.
B.To register as a nutritionist.
C.To seek advice from experts.
D.To replace fiber with whole food.

At first,we didn't pay too much attention to this request, for we had never put up a Christmas tree. But my daughter's
repeated request made us go ahead with this first step:loaded with layers of clothing to fight the unfamiliar cold,we tasked
ourselves with finding a tree for our daughter.
When we finally selected our tree,we realized we didn't have a car big enough to get it home.Of course,we had not
considered that.It was our first time.We had no choice but to carry it home.We had walked only a few steps when a
gentleman in our neighborhood stopped his truck and offered us a ride home. Our first friend.
The Christmas tree was propped up (in our living area but it was too dark.We needed lights! So,the next
evening,we went to a store and asked for lights. The storekeeper, who, after getting over the surprise of our seemingly silly
questions, explained to us that we needed multi-colored lights.Thanking the kind soul,we left with our lights and his
warmth.Our second friend.
That night,we carefully wound the lights around the tree and excitedly held our breaths for the beauty of the first glow.
Still,it looked like something was missing:small ornaments ()Where would we get them? One lady across the street
had a breathtaking tree carefully placed in a window for all to see.Every night,I stood behind the curtain, spending
unnatural amounts of time studying the bells and whistles in her tree.
