Wild geese flying in a V shape can fly 70 percent farther without rest than birds flying alone.

In Brazil, there is a special fishing team. It is made up of human fishers and dolphins! They work together to catch the 1 fish—mullet (鲻鱼).

Cantor’s study described how fishers and dolphins give information to each other. When 5 find fish, they drive them to the coast (海岸). Then they arch (弓着) their backs in front of the fishers to 6 them to throw nets. Fishermen will then throw the nets right away. “Fishermen need to be well-trained to understand the cues from dolphins,” said Cantor.

How do you feel when your teacher asks you to work on a group project with other students? Do you like to work together with others or work 1 ?
The Programme for International Student Assessment, or PISA, carried out a survey of students’ ability to work together in groups. They found that students who do well in tests by themselves are also likely to be better at working with other people.
Students in Japan, South Korea, Finland and Canada, where test scores are 2 , also did well in working together to solve problems. This finding was true for many countries.
But this was not true for every country. Chinese students, who also did well in tests, 3 just average collaborative (合作的) skills.
“One reason might be that Chinese parents and teachers focus too much on grades,” said Zhao Zhongxin, former vice president of the Chinese Family Education Association. “Students have a lot of exam pressure and they view school as a place for competition.”
“However, collaborative skills are very important for 4 students for today’s society,” he added. “Luckily, more Chinese educators are realizing the importance of this and are thinking of ways to help students improve this skill.”
Another interesting finding from the PISA survey was that girls tend (趋向于) to be better than boys at working together. They said girls show more active attitudes (态度) towards relationships, which means they are much 5 to communicate with.
PISA also found that the classroom environment tends to enable students to collaborate. In classes where there are a lot of 6 that require communication, such as class debates, students tend to have better attitudes towards collaborating.

Choose the best answer and complete the passage (选择最恰当的选项完成短文)
We all enjoy being part of a group. There’s no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I 1 . Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier.
Personalities (个性) can make teamwork 2 . There’s often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose 3 might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine (结合) several challenging personality types, and it’s even harder.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To 4 work as a team, you need time together, and lots of it.
A final reason why teamwork is difficult is that there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to 5 it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don’t get me wrong — I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realise what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and 6 good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.

When our teacher told us the plan, I thought, “This is easy.” I’m good at using 2 , so I decided to do it all by myself.
The next morning, I took my dad’s toolbox to school and started working. But the swing’s chain (链条) was stuck (卡住的). I pulled and pushed as hard as I could, but it wouldn’t move at all. After fixing the swing, we started planting sunflower seeds (种子) around it. When we finished, the playground looked so much nicer! Our teacher took a photo of all of us standing next to the new-looking swing. She said happily, “This is what 8 means. One person does little, but a team achieves great things.”
Now, every time I sit on that swing, I think of that day. I used to believe I could do everything alone, but now I know that great things happen when we work together. Teamwork makes hard tasks easy, and it’s way more fun too!

The Programme for International Student Assessment, or PISA, carried out a survey of students’ ability to work together in groups. They found that students who do well in tests by themselves are also likely to be better at working with other people.
