Human Spaceflight
In just 20 years, the human exploration into space has made incredible strides. In 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human being to travel into space. On April 12 of that year, his Vostok spacecraft orbited the earth once, then using a parachute that deployed 2.5 km above the planet and guided his re-entry.
The Vostok spacecraft was a sphere just 2.3 m in diameter with room for just one crew member. The entire mission took only 108 minutes, less than two hours.
Less than a month later, American Alan Shepard became the first American in space. His Mercury spaceship entered space but did not orbit the earth. The flight lasted just fifteen minutes, but unlike Gagarin, whose ship was automatically programmed, Shepard navigated the entire voyage.
Twenty years later, the United States launched the first space shuttle, a vehicle designed and intended to be reusable for multiple flights. Unlike the early spacecrafts that used parachutes to “splashdown” in the ocean upon reentry, the space shuttle landed much like an airplane on a runway and could be refurbished and sent back into space on subsequent missions.

How to Be a Good Learner
Being a good learner is not just about getting good grades. It’s about developing effective learning habits and a positive attitude towards learning. Here are some tips to help you become a good learner.
Before you start studying, it’s important to know what you want to achieve. Do you want to pass a test, learn a new skill, or understand a difficult topic? 41. ______ It will help you stay focused when you feel distracted and keep you motivated even when learning gets hard. Without clear goals, you might end up wasting time on things that don’t help you progress.
Time is a valuable resource for learners, and using it well can make a big difference in your learning results. 42. ______ For example, you can plan to study math for an hour in the morning when your mind is fresh, and English for an hour in the afternoon. Don’t forget to include short breaks in your plan—taking 10 minutes to stretch or drink water after 45 minutes of studying can help you stay fresh and focused for longer.
Many students think that learning is just reading textbooks or listening to teachers, but that’s not enough. 43. ______ Instead of passively receiving information, try to ask questions about what you’re learning. Take notes to organize your thoughts, and discuss the material with your classmates or teachers. You can also apply what you’ve learned to real-life situations—like using new English words when talking to friends—to make the knowledge stick.
No one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes while learning. Some students get discouraged when they make mistakes, but that’s the wrong way to look at it. 44. ______ Take time to analyze why you made the mistake: Did you not understand the concept? Did you rush through the problem? Once you find the reason, you can make changes to avoid the same mistake next time. Mistakes are actually valuable because they show you where you need to improve.
Learning can be challenging at times—there will be topics that are hard to understand, or exams that make you nervous. But giving up is never the solution. 45. ______ Believe in your ability to learn, even when things seem difficult. If you’re stuck on a topic, don’t be afraid to ask for help from your teachers, parents, or classmates. Remember, every small step you take—like understanding one new formula or memorizing five new words—is a progress towards your goal.
By following these tips, you can become a good learner and achieve your learning goals. Remember, learning is a lifelong journey—enjoy the process!
A. Set clear goals.
B. Stay positive.
C. Learn from your mistakes.
D. Create a study plan.
E. Take notes in class.
F. Practice every day.
G. Learn actively.

How to Protect the Environment as a Student
As students, we may think that we can’t do much to protect the environment. But in fact, there are many small things we can do in our daily lives to make a difference.
First, we can save energy. Turn off the lights, computers, and other electrical devices when we are not using them. This can help reduce electricity consumption. We can also save water by turning off the tap when we brush our teeth or wash our hands.
Second, we can reduce waste. Bring our own bags when we go shopping instead of using plastic bags. Use reusable water bottles and lunch boxes instead of disposable ones. We can also recycle paper, plastic, glass, and metal. This helps reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills.
Third, we can plant trees and flowers. Trees and flowers help improve air quality and provide habitats for animals. We can join tree-planting activities at school or in our community.
Fourth, we can walk or ride a bike to school instead of taking a car. This helps reduce air pollution. If we have to take a car, we can carpool with our classmates or family members.
Fifth, we can spread awareness about environmental protection. Tell our family and friends about the importance of protecting the environment. We can also organize or participate in environmental protection activities at school, such as poster competitions or lectures.
Protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. As students, we have a duty to do our part. Even small actions can add up and make a big difference. Let’s start today and work together to protect our planet.

里)、at(在……
解析:空格处与 “games(复数名词)” 是并列关系,需用可数名词复数,排除 A(单数,活动)、C(形容词,积极的)、D(副词,积极地)。
解析:固定搭配 “make sb. do sth.”(让某人做某事)中,sb. 后接动词原形,排除 B(第三人称单数)、C(过去式)、D(现在分词)。文中 “Lily opened up, made friends, and even started exercising daily” 是原因,“feel full of energy” 是结果,符合 “make” 的用法和语境。
解析:固定搭配 “thank you for doing sth.”(感谢某人做某事)中,“for” 是介词,后接动名词,排除 A(原形)、B(第三人称单数)、D(过去式)。
解析:空格处作 “learned” 的宾语,需用名词,排除 D(形容词,友好的);结合后文 “but true ones”(ones 指代前文提到的 “朋友相关的概念”),且 “isn’t about many friends” 强调的是 “友谊的本质”,而非 “单个朋友(A)” 或 “多个朋友(B)”,故用 “friendship(友谊)”。
解析:空格处与 “comfortable(形容词)” 并列,修饰代词 “it(指代服装)”,需用形容词,排除 A(名词,美丽)、C(副词,漂亮地)、D(动词,美化)。
解析:“others” 泛指 “其他人”,符合 “善意传递给不确定的多数人” 的语境;A(another,另一个,单数)、C(the other,两者中的另一个)、D(the others,特定范围的其余人)均不符合 “链条式传递” 的泛指含义,故用 others。
解析:“by doing sth.” 表示 “通过某种方式”,符合 “以‘善待他人’为方式产生影响” 的逻辑;B(with,用工具 / 伴随)、C(through,强调过程)、D(in,在……
前文 “small kind acts, but they can change lives” 是关键提示,说明善意能 “带来改变”。

26. Who was the first human being to travel into space?
A. Alan Shepard B. Yuri Gagarin C. Neil Armstrong D. Yang Liwei
27. How long did Gagarin's mission last?
A. 15 minutes B. 2 hours C. 108 minutes D. A day
28. What's the difference between Shepard's flight and Gagarin's?
