For the past ten years, my dad and I have attended the same school-he as an administrator and I as a student. Our relationship, in and out of school, has been a wild, unpredictable ride.
When I was younger, all that my dad said was doctrine (信条) and anything did I, naturally, copied. I was his little shadow, imitating his every move. We played games together, and stayed up late reading bedtime stories. They were some of the best times. I could count on my dad taking me to school, running into him regularly during the day and riding home with him every afternoon.
As the years ticked by, I hit my pre-teen years. Things started to shift. Suddenly, my dad wasn’t the cool guy I once thought he was. He wore his socks too high, listened to horrible country music and laughed too loudly in front of my friends. How horrible it was! He became the source of all my teenage embarrassment. However, the disasters that occurred in school were even worse. The worst one happened in seventh grade. Our class was having a New Year party, and there he was, dressed up as Donald Duck. With a guitar in hand, he sang the most ridiculous song. Just kill me! I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole. So I ran away as fast as my legs could carry me.
This struggle continued well into high school. But then, something unexpected happened. It was around the time of my 10th-grade physics project. The assignment was to construct a wooden bridge that had the best strength-to-weight ratio (比率) . All the students and physics teachers participated. And guess what? My dad, the only administrator, decided to join in. Instantly, that familiar feeling of embarrassment washed over me, and as usual, I fled the scene.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】But hours later, my friends ran up to me, their eyes shining with excitement. They couldn’t wait to tell me how my dad’s bridge was the talk of the school. So unique was his design that it had everyone amazed. It not only withstood the weight test effortlessly but also looked incredibly elegant. I was dumbfounded, my initial shock gradually turning into a sense of pride that I couldn’t contain. The image of my embarrassing dad started to fade, replaced by one of a creative and capable man.
That evening, I gathered all my courage and walked to dad. Standing before him, I said sincerely, “Dad, I heard about your amazing achievement in the physics project. I’m truly proud of you.” His eyes widened in surprise, and then a warm smile spread across his face. He pulled me into a hug, saying, “Son, your words mean everything to me.” At that moment, I felt a strong bond rekindling between us. From then on, I began to see my dad in a new light, appreciating his uniqueness and loving him more deeply than ever.

Passage 2
(山东省德州市2024-2025学年高三上学期期末考试英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
My grandfather was a kind and wonderful man who considered me to be his favorite grandchild. He always took some extra effort to teach me as much as he could about life on the ranch (牧场), the animals and the outdoors. He had a way of making everything seem like a success, but as I would later learn, sometimes he told little“white lies” to make sure I always felt proud of what I had achieved.
I was about six years old when my grandfather asked if I would like to go fishing with him. I jumped at the chance; I had seen other kids and adults fish before, but I was always considered too young to fish myself. When my grandfather offered to take me fishing I knew that I was no longer a baby and I was more than eager to throw my line in the water and take my place amongst the older kids and adults. I was beyond excited. I ran to my grandparents’ old pickup truck and jumped into the front seat. The old man drove us ever so slowly to the large pond about a mile from the house.
My grandfather led me to a shaded spot underneath a big tree whose branches hung over the water’s edge. He seemed to enjoy the excitement I was showing and took a great delight in explaining to me about how to bait (上饵) my hook, how much line to leave between the hook and the cork (软木), and the importance of what he called his“secret fisherman’s trick”. After listening to every word he said, I took the pole and dropped my line into the still water, just as he did. We settled back and waited. I began to imagine taking home a big fish and being envied by everyone.
Hours passed and no fish appeared. Seeing my sadness, my grandfather suggested we leave our poles and go into the truck for a rest. I left the baited lines in the water and my grandmother gave me a glass of water then put me down for a nap (小睡). I slipped into sleep feeling that my first fishing trip had been a failure.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150个左右;

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Suddenly my grandfather shouted, “Oh, boy! Your pole is moving!” I awoke, my heart racing with excitement. “Quick, grab your pole!” he urged, and I jumped to my feet, still half-asleep but filled with hopes. As I took hold of the fishing rod, my grandfather guided me, showing me how to make it slowly. “Keep your line tight!” he instructed, his voice steady and encouraging. I finally saw a flash of silver in the water. “That’s it! You’re doing great!” my grandfather cheered. With one final pull, I managed to bring the fish to the shore.
Years later, my grandmother revealed the truth about that day. She had seen my grandfather secretly place a fish on the hook of my fishing pole, ensuring that my first fishing experience would be a success. I was so amazed by my grandmother’s words. I knew that my grandfather loved me, but I never knew the extremes he went to in order to make my first fishing experience a good one. My greatest hope is that one day people will remember me like I remember my grandpa.

(山东省济南市2024-2025学年高三上学期期末学习质量检测英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For Jake, the journey from high school to college had never seemed so challenging. The real world— the campus life he had heard so much about, the decisions on what to study, what career to pursue, and how to find his place— felt like a heavy weight on his chest. He had no clue what his future held.
One afternoon, Jake’s mom suggested he spend some time volunteering at the community center. “It might be a good way to take your mind off things,” she said. At first, he resisted. Volunteering didn't sound like the right way to prepare for college. He needed to focus on his future, not wasting time helping others. But eventually, he agreed unwillingly.
When Jake first arrived at the center, the atmosphere felt unfamiliar but warm. It was a small, comfortable space with colorful walls, art supplies, and kids playing in the corner. He was assigned to help with the kids’ art class. The first few days were uneventful. Jake just sat back, passing out crayons, organizing the art supplies, and occasionally offering a word of encouragement to the kids.
But one particular day, a girl caught his attention. Her name was Layla, and she was sitting in the corner, quietly staring down at a blank canvas (画布), with her hands wrapped tightly around a paintbrush. Her brush paused above the canvas as if she were waiting for permission to make the first mark.
Jake had no experience with art and didn’t know how to guide Layla. But something about her hesitation touched his heart. He walked over to her and asked, “Hey, Layla, what's going on? Why aren't you painting?” She looked up at him with large brown eyes, then down at her hands, which were holding the paintbrush tightly but not moving. “I’m not good at it,” she replied. “I don’t know how to make it look like what’s in my mind.”

As Layla’s confidence grew, Jake felt a shift within himself.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Jake sat beside her, smiling. “You know, Layla,” he said gently, “art isn’t about making something look perfect. It’s about expressing what’s inside you. There’s no right or wrong way to paint. Just close your eyes and think about that beautiful thing in your mind, then let the brush move freely on the canvas.” Layla listened intently, her eyes fixed on Jake. Slowly, she took a deep breath and made the first stroke. Jake watched with encouragement, nodding and offering words of praise for each new color she added. Bit by bit, a beautiful landscape emerged on the canvas.
As Layla’s confidence grew, Jake felt a shift within himself. He realized that helping others could bring such a sense of fulfillment. The joy on Layla’s face when she finally saw her completed painting was like a light bulb going off in his head. He understood that his own future didn’t have to be a burden. Just as he had guided Layla to express herself, he could also find his own path step by step. Volunteering wasn’t a waste of time at all. It was a chance to learn, grow, and see the world from a different perspective. From that day on, Jake was no longer weighed down by the unknowns of his future. Instead, he was excited to explore new possibilities and make a difference, just like he did for Layla.

“Unbelievable,” Jade screamed while examining her camera that, seconds before, had been accidentally dropped into the seawater by her. It was her father’s favourite. She had brought it to her class beach barbecue to record memorable moments with her high school classmates. Jade held the camera close to her chest before drying it with a towel. She pressed the power button several times. No response.
Tears of sadness welling up in her eyes, Jade gathered her belongings, determined to leave.“Jade, where are you going?” Her puzzled classmates called behind her, but she ignored them. Without saying goodbye, she ran away from the barbecue. She wanted to take the camera to the repairman immediately. Uncle Lee, the trusty repairman for all things digital, could only shake his head, give her a resigned look and say, “It’s beyond repair.”
The camera was a gift from Jade’s mother to her father on his fortieth birthday. Since then, it had been his companion for all events, big and small. It had been instrumental in capturing all the significant milestones in their family. Numerous advanced digital cameras had come onto the market but his father had no intention of replacing the treasure. But this time she had secretly taken it out and ruined it! Her father would get cross with her and probably never trust her with his belongings again. Thinking of this, Jade put back the disabled camera quietly in her father’s drawer in the hope that her father wouldn’t find out the truth.
Jade remained disturbed for a few days. Then came the day when her father went for his camera because Jade’s younger sister would be graduating from kindergarten and he was preparing for the ceremony.
“What’s wrong with my camera? It was in good condition last Saturday. Maybe it’s too old to work,” Jade’s father said in disbelief, having tried turning it on several times and failed. “Take it easy, dear. Perhaps it’s high time to change for an advanced one,” Jade’s mother comforted him smilingly. “But I can’t part with this big treasure.” Her father responded.

【答案】One possible version
Hearing this, Jade gathered up her courage. Full of apology and regret, Jade gave an account of the whole story. “Sorry, dad, it’s all my fault. I know the camera means a lot to you. I hope to buy a new one for you with all my pocket money.” Turning back to fetch her money, she was stopped by her mother. “Honey, it’s just a camera. Your honesty matters most to us,” Her mother said smilingly, hugging her tightly. Relieved, Jade responded with gratitude, “Thank you, Mom. Never will I make such a mistake.”
The next day, when Jade came home, she saw a new smartphone on her desk. On it was a note saying, “Jade, you’ve grown up. We’re proud of your integrity. This phone with a great built-in camera is for you. You can use it to capture memorable moments. Love, Dad & Mum.” Jade picked up the smartphone, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. She realized her parents’ love and forgiveness were more precious than any possession. She promised to herself that she would be more responsible and considerate, cherishing the trust her parents had in her.

Passage 1
(山东省潍坊市2023-2024学年高三上学期1月期末英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“You should throw me in the bin, Mummy.”
Those are the words my son say to me, words a mother should never hear their child say. When I asked him why, he told me that like his digger, he was broken and could not be fixed. My heart cracked a little more at that and I knew that, I had to try and find a way to bring back the joy into our world.
At age two, he was diagnosed with type two diabetes and he was “just losing his puppy fat”. My son grew sicker and sicker until eventually, he was admitted into hospital.
Motherhood changed in that moment. I went from “Mummy” to nurse, always keeping a watch for signs he might be in danger from his own body. It can be hard to find the balance between the demands of being a full-time carer for a child with illness and being a mother. In those early days, it broke me to hear him beg and cry for me not to hurt him with needles again. The risks that come along are as big as they can be: blindness, organ failure, coma, death. His life is, and always will be, dependent on the monitoring and assessment of all these factors.
Yet, I had to find a way to raise him to know that he could live it fully and with all his dreams within reach. I had to learn how to live with these two roles, just as he had to learn to live with the demands his body would place on him. What I had not expected was to find the way through in the mud and rubble (瓦砾) of a new-build social housing estate.
My husband, son and I moved to the new estate in Cumbria when my son was four. The back garden was nothing more than a patch of newly sown grass, and a thin layer of topsoil. Underneath that was rubble and rock. The site was a former industrial stoneworks, and but to us, it was a place of hope.

This small garden let us both live again.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Soon after we moved in, my son and I decided to plant a garden. He worked out plans with his drawings. Soon after we started digging, slowly seeing the bones of his dream become reality. We used what we could find. We taught ourselves how to build ponds, and how to grow food. For plants, we rescued the weeds that would otherwise be dug up. My son tenderly transplanted these into our new beds with a welcome, as if each were the most delicate of flowers. Plant by plant, our garden grew, creating a place of magic and medicine, for all that lived there - plants, animals and humans.
This small garden let us both live again. He brought delight into my world, and I scattered into his the magic of small seeds. As our little garden took shape, we both discovered an important thing: that even though things might not be perfect, even though there might be things that are hard and hurt, even though the ground may be broken, this soil still holds the potential to nurture and grow our dreams. We imagined ourselves a secret garden that began with the simplest of things: a weed. From it, we grew joy.

Passage 2
(山东省威海市2022-2023学年高三上学期期末考试英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was September 1966, and I was twenty years old, facing my first class of kids as a new teacher. My class in downtown Toronto was made up of thirty-eight angels, and one street kid named Mike. His parents passed away when he was a baby, and he lived with a weak and indifferent grandmother. As for a ten-year-old boy, he was little and rough.
Like most new, young teachers, I was full of enthusiasm and determined to make a difference. Being so young, I knew very little about parenting. However, I did recognize a child in need, and decided to see if I could make a difference. And so my special “foster father (养父)” relationship with Mike began.
Each day as I arrived at school, I’d take Mike out for breakfast. Each noon hour as I shared my lunch with him, I taught him some new skills — for a while we worked on the proper method of using a microscope. On another day we constructed a camera, then we classified rocks. Mike would then “help” me teach these skills to the rest of the class. We had a lot of fun, and a kind of unspoken trust began to build up between us.
Early in our special relationship, Mike told me of his dream — becoming a lawyer. I believed then, and after thirty-four years of teaching I still believe, that all children have a gift. Everyone has the same opportunity to be the best person they can be. I realized this boy was brilliant, and that with a little love, attention, understanding, guidance and encouragement, he could probably accomplish whatever he put his mind to. I figured if he wanted to be a lawyer, I would do all I could to help him become the very best lawyer he could be.
Every Saturday morning, I took Mike to the Osgoode Law Library, which was attached to the University of Toronto. I explained to him that reading up on law was the only way to be a good lawyer. His young mind was eager and interested.

Paragraph 1: This was how we spent each Saturday morning for two years.

Paragraph 2: One day, after we were out of touch for 30 years, there went my doorbell.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
This was how we spent each Saturday morning for two years. Young though he was, he would cherish the time, absorbing knowledge like a sponge. After our library session, I would bring him back to my office and give him extra tuition, helping him catch up with the other children in class and even top most of the tests. Bit by bit, Mike was no longer what he used to be. Everyone described him as energetic, warm-hearted and self-disciplined when he graduated. For some reason, Mike left Toronto for another state with his grandmother while I switched to another school soon and regretfully I lost his address accidentally.
One day, after we were out of touch for 30 years, there went my doorbell. I opened the door, only to find Mike, the former street kid, standing there in his law office uniform. Along with him were his own teenage son and daughter. His face lighted with joy, he gave me a warm hug, explained how he managed to get my address. Tears of excitement and happiness filled my eyes. Listening to what he had achieved as a lawyer, I was so proud of him. He thanked me for showing him the light and helping him fulfil his potential. That was another proud moment for me.

James, a 34-year-old man, had faced many hardships in recent years. After losing his job during the pandemic, he struggled to make ends meet. Following the passing of his mother and an eviction (驱逐) from his apartment, James became homeless, spending his days working odd jobs and his nights in local shelters.
Despite these challenges, James maintained a positive outlook. He often volunteered at a nearby soup kitchen which was designed to provide food for the old and disabled, where he found comfort in helping others. Every day, he would rise with a sense of purpose, a rare quality that seemed to shine through even the darkest of times. James frequently shared his dream of one day having a home to call his own and getting back on his feet, inspiring others with his determination.
Recently, a local news station featured James in a column about homelessness in Seattle, sharing his inspiring story which moved the hearts of many viewers. They made contact with him, wanting to help him realize his dream of having a stable place to live in.
One day, a surprising twist unfolded. A local businesswoman, inspired by James’s perseverance, decided to pay for his first month’s rent and helped him land a job at her organization. But the ultimate surprise came during the rent signing. In an emotional moment, the businesswoman revealed that she had purchased a small house in a nearby neighborhood for James. Tears filled James’s eyes as he realized the power of the kindness returned to him. “I never expected such a thing could happen to me,” James said. But he turned down her offering politely and said: “I appreciate your generosity more than you can imagine, but I need to rebuild my life on my own. There are still many other homeless people needing your help.” Inspired by his words, she set up a non-profit organization in the small house.

【答案】范文
James was invited to take charge of it a few days later. With unwavering dedication, he transformed the small house into a community hub. His firsthand experience enabled him to design practical programs—job training workshops, counseling sessions, and temporary accommodation services. Every weekend, James organized donation drives, encouraging locals to contribute clothes and groceries. His compassionate leadership gradually attracted more volunteers. One afternoon, he noticed a familiar face among newcomers—a teenager he’d once shared sandwiches with at the shelter. “You taught me kindness isn’t about receiving,” the boy smiled, holding a box of supplies. James nodded, warmth swelling in his chest.
James’s efforts did not go unnoticed. Local newspapers featured his initiative, sparking citywide support. Within months, the organization expanded to three neighboring towns. The businesswoman proudly allocated funds for its growth while James secured stable housing through his salary. At the annual charity gala, he stood beside donors, now equals in rebuilding lives. Years later, the original small house displayed a plaque: “Where dignity begins.” James often lingered there, remembering how rejecting one gift had multiplied hope for countless others.

It was an ordinary Saturday morning. The sun was peeking through the clouds, casting a warm glow over the park. Emily was running in the park. She loved running because she believed that after a tough week at work, running could not only help her exercise her body but also free her mind from stress and exhaustion.
There were a lot of people in the park. Children were running around and playing, the elderly were leisurely practicing Tai Chi, and young couples were strolling by the lake. Emily was enjoying the lively and pleasant atmosphere. Her steps were light and rhythmic, and every breath made her feel more comfortable, filling her lungs with the fresh scent of the blooming flowers.
Suddenly, there was some noise not far away. Emily looked in that direction and saw a crowd gathering, looking panicked. She ran over to see what had happened. There was an old woman lying on the ground, her face pale as a sheet and her lips slightly purple and quivering. Beside her, another old woman shouted anxiously, “She’s having a heart attack! What should we do? Who can help?” Everyone around looked troubled. Some were calling an ambulance on their phones, but no one knew how to help the old woman before the ambulance arrived.
Emily’s friend Jane is a nurse. The hospital where she works once held public welfare activities for CPR (心肺复苏) training in Emily’s community. Emily attended this event only because she was more interested in the free snacks and small gifts provided than the training itself. Never had she imagined there would be a day when she would use this skill.

Calming herself down, Emily offered to have a try. Taking a deep breath, she quickly knelt beside the old woman, the basic steps of CPR she had learned in the public welfare activities flashing through her mind. Without hesitation, she placed one hand on the center of the woman’s chest and the other on top, pressing firmly and steadily. Anxious and worried, the crowd watched in silence. With time ticking with its own pace, Emily continued her press and counted aloud to keep the rhythm, “One, two, three, four...”
Finally, the old woman woke up. Seeing the old woman’s eyes fluttering open, Emily took a deep breath and gently wiped the sweat from her brow. Hardly had the old woman come to life than she held Emily’s hands tightly, tears of gratitude streaming down her face. Meanwhile, the crowd erupted in cheers, praising Emily for her quick thinking and effective CPR. With a sense of pride and accomplishment washing over her, Emily was determined to learn more first aid skills and help people in need.

A Flower for Leourn
A small act of kindness can make a difference.
This was our senior year. My best friend Beth and I had big dreams... big hopes for our last year in high school. We had prayed and we were ready for the miracle (奇迹) we knew we would see.
Beth was the first to notice her. “Kristi, did you see the girl standing by us in the lunch line — she looks so lost, so out of place.” We had heard of a family that had just moved to our town from the country of Cambodia. We knew there was supposed to be a new girl at our school from that family, but we had yet to meet her... until now.
Leourn was a small dark haired beauty. She came to a new country where she struggled with the little English she knew and that made it very hard for her to get to know people in our small town. She was starting her freshman year and trying her best to fit in without attracting any attention.
We watched in the lunch room from our “Senior Table”. Leourn would get her lunch tray (托盘) with the rest of the students but she always kept her head down with her eyes focused on the floor. Every single day Leourn would sit at the very edge of her seat and eat as fast as she could. She kept her eyes fixed on her food and we never, ever saw her look up. We felt very bad as we watched at the interaction of the other girls at her table. They would make gestures to one another and laugh at Leourn while she ate.
As we paid attention over the next week, we never heard anyone so much as say “Hi” to Leourn. She was a girl invisible. Beth and I talked — what could we do for her?

【答案】 So Beth and I made an effort to let Leourn know we cared. We sought out Leourn in the halls and said “Hi” to her. She responded with shy smiles, but still kept her head down. Each day, we sat with her at lunch and engage her in conversation. It was a small step, but we hoped it would make a difference. We wanted to do something special, to show her that she wasn’t alone in this new world. It was Beth who came up with a perfect plan. “We could send her a flower. It’s a small thing, but it might mean a lot to her.” So, we decided to pool our money and buy a flower for Leourn.
I will never forget that day when we send Leourn a flower. We bought a bright vibrant sunflower with a card saying “You are seen, heard, and valued.” She clutched the flower tightly, with a mix of surprise, joy, and a sense of belonging that she had been missing. Then she did something amazing. She actually took her eyes off the floor, looked up at me with beautiful beaming eyes and in a low choked whisper uttered two words “Thank You.” It was a moment of profound meaning, not just for Leourn, but for Beth and me as well, as we realized the power of a single act of kindness.

A man was driving home one evening on a two-lane country road. Jobs, in this small, mid-western community, were very difficult to search. But he never quit looking. Ever since the factory closed, he’d been unemployed. With winter coming, the cold had finally hit home.
It was a lonely road. Not very many people had a reason to be on it, unless they were leaving, Most of his friends had already left. They had families to feed and dreams to fulfill. But he stayed on. After all, this was where he buried his mother and father. He was born here and knew the country. He could go down this road blind, and tell you what was on either side, and with his headlights not working, that came in handy.
It was starting to get dark and light snow was coming down. He’d better get a move on. You know, he almost didn’t see the old lady, wandering on the side of the road. But even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her and got out.
Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe, and he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that cold that only fear can put in you. He said, “I’m here to help you ma’am. Why don’t you wait in your car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Joe.”

【答案】The old lady was surprised at his words and nodded slightly. All she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Joe crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his fingers a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. She couldn’t thank him enough for coming to her aid. Joe just smiled as he closed her trunk.
She asked him how much she owed him. Joe never thought about the money. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and there were many people who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give them the assistance that they needed. The old lady nodded with tears rolling down from her eyes.

Ever since Jake first watched the 1988 Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea, he had dreamed of being in the Olympics. For years, he had worked hard to become a good swimmer, training and practicing. Two decades later, he was in Beijing, China, for his first Olympic performance, as part of his country’s swimming team!
The Olympic Stadium was packed with athletes from all over the world, all eagerly awaiting the start of the opening parade (入场式). The atmosphere was electric and everything seemed perfect. Almost.
Jake loved his red, white and blue official Olympic jacket with the Olympic rings on the back. But several minutes before, Jake had torn a hole in the left sleeve (袖子) of his jacket when it got caught in a gate.
“Too bad about your jacket,” his teammate, Ben, commented.
“I hope nobody notices it,” Jake sighed.
“Someone will,” Ben laughed.
Jake didn’t respond as he was already feeling annoyed and depressed after having to deal with his lost suitcase when they landed at the airport the day before. He could not believe how things were not going his way.
Suddenly, a lovely little girl about 8 years old came up to Jake and pointed at the tear in his sleeve. Jake smiled at her. The girl started speaking in a language he couldn’t understand, all the while pointing at his torn sleeve. Unable to catch a word, Jake turned to his teammates for help but all of them shook their heads with a helpless expression. At that moment, the little girl began to take off her own jacket that was marked with a red English word “China” and looked up at Jake eagerly, signing to Jake to do so.
“Oh, I get it. You want to try it on. Here you go!” Jake slipped off the jacket and handed it to her. The Chinese girl took it, bowed and took off with his jacket right away!

【答案】One possible version:
“Can’t she be a little thief?” Ben joked, pointing at her back. His words suddenly made Jake awake to something wrong. Without delay, Jake rushed into the crowd, desperate to catch up with the girl. But she quickly disappeared from view. Frustration and anger welled up inside him when he realized he might lose his precious jacket. But Jake had to stand back with his team, waiting for the parade to start. Noticing his depression, Ben patted him on the shoulder, saying gently, “It’s okay. You’re with us.” Jake nodded, grateful for the support from his teammate. Just as Jake was starting to accept the fact that he’d march without his jacket, he heard someone calling.
Jake turned around, only to see the little girl coming. In her hands was his jacket. With a sincere smile, the girl handed it to Jake and showed him where his left sleeve used to be broken. What Jake saw left him speechless and wide-eyed: the big hole in the sleeve was skillfully replaced by a perfectly sewn pattern that well matched the sleeve. Guilty and grateful, Jake thanked the girl repeatedly. Soon, the music began and the parade started. Marching forward, Jake waved his left arm proudly to the excited audience, deeply touched by Chinese people’s kindness and consideration.

Skateboarding, which is rooted in street culture and closely tied to lifestyles and attitudes of young people, is a sport that emphasizes freedom and personal techniques.
The 13-year-old girl, Cui, took up skateboarding in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic did not allow her to practice rollerblading, which she began as a 3-year-old. One day, her father, a skateboarding enthusiast, suggested “why not try skateboarding at home instead?” That day she stepped onto the board for the first time, “It felt incredibly smooth. It was love at first sight.” Cui exclaimed. Within a year, she was reaching podiums (领奖台) at professional-level events, In 2022, she ranked third in the women’s street event at the provincial games. She soon joined the provincial skateboarding team and underwent a more comprehensive and structured training program.
In skateboarding, injuries are unavoidable, but when discussing the pain and the setbacks, Cui displayed a level of resilience (适应力) beyond her age. “When I started skateboarding, I thought it was great fun. Later, I realized people sustain a lot of injuries while skateboarding. But that is where the spirit of skateboarding lies.” she said. Most of the time, getting injured is just part of the process, and she simply pushes through it and perseveres, she added.
Earlier this year, Cui secured the 30th spot in the women’s street event at the World Street Skateboarding Championships. Until Wednesday, the title of China’s youngest Asian Games gold medalist belonged to 15-year-old skateboarder Chen Ye, who won the men’s park event on Monday.

Super Roy
“You’re a halfback(中卫).” I looked over my shoulder at the empty field behind me. “Me?” I asked, pointing to my chest
“Yes,” the coach said again. “You’re a halfback. Yep, no doubt about it.”
The coach’s name was Super Roy. Someone told me his real name once, but it never stuck. When I got to practice that day I was a small kid with little athletic experience or skill. I wondered if I belonged there at all and what Super Roy had seen in me that I didn’t see in myself.
“Are you sure I’m a halfback?” I asked him the next day.
“Let me see,” he said, standing back to have a good glance at me, which made me nervous about what he would say
“Yep. You’re a halfback. Might as well get used to it.”
“Okay,” I said, puzzled but beginning to accept the idea, strange as it seemed.
Later that day we started running plays. Time after time the quarterback put the ball right in my hands. Me, the silly fellow who had to be reminded how many points a touchdown was worth. I expected to go all season without touching the ball. I expected to be a bench warmer, and now the ball was in my hands—literally.
Super Roy had a routine he did every day. As practice came to an end, he would pick one of the players to step forward. The player had to recite a quote Super Roy had given him the day before. It was a very important moment in practice. No one wanted to forget his quote in front of the whole team.
After practice was over one day, Super Roy spoke to me. “Your turn tomorrow,” he said. “Ready for your quote?”
“Okay,” I said, stressed in deep concentration. “I’m ready.”
“Well, here it is: ‘It’s not the size of the man you play, it’s how you play the man.’ Got it?” “Yes, Coach.”
Super Roy winked at me and gave me a pat on the shoulder. “And I believe the quote will help you make a miracle in the inter school match next month,” he added.
On the way home, my mind played like a broken record, which made me murmur the words repeatedly.

There came the practice time the next day. All during practice I mumbled the quote to myself after each hit, just to be sure it hadn't been knocked out of my head. When the moment came, I stepped forward. “It's not the size of the man you play,” I told my teammates, “it's how you play the man.” When speaking the words, I began to find a greater man inside myself. From Ben on, I spared no effort to prepare for the coming match. Efforts paid off in the end. I, who had not been sure if he belonged there, was awarded the gold medal. At that moment, I couldn't wait to show my gratitude to Super Boy.
I stepped into Super Roy's-office after the mater. On seeing me, he sincerely congratulated me on my success. “Undoubtedly, I owed my success to your push and encouragement.” I said, with tears rolling down my cheeks. It was he who looked for the good in his students who never saw in themselves and it was he who shaped my life. That year a scrawny little kid learned to behave in himself, to learn there was no problem so big he couldn't handle. Super Roy's encouraging words still echo in m mind today. What a blessing to have him in my school life.

(山东省枣庄市2023-2024学年高三上学期1月期末英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
From an early age, Patti Wilson was told that she was an epileptic (癫痫患者). However, she was a lively and enthusiastic girl, looking at her illness as simply “an inconvenience”. She never focused on what she had lost, but on what she had left. One day, Patti said to her father, who was a morning jogger, “Daddy, I’d really love to run with you every day, but I’m afraid I’ll have an epileptic fit.”
Her father told her, “Don’t worry, my girl. I know how to handle it! Let’s start running then!”
It was a wonderful experience for the father and daughter to run together every day. After a few weeks, the ambitious girl told her father, “Daddy, What I’d really love to do is to break the world’s long-distance running record for women.” The father checked the Guinness Book of World Records and found that the farthest any woman had run was 80miles.
That year, she completed her run to San Francisco, which is a distance of 400 miles. She was wearing a T-shirt, reading, “I Love Epileptics”. Her father ran every mile at her side, and her mom, a nurse, followed in a motor home behind them in case anything went wrong. But nothing happened at all while she was running.
As a senior high school student, Patti announced that she was determined to run from her hometown up to the White House, which is a distance of more than 3000 miles away. Her classmates got behind her. They built a giant poster that read, “Run, Patti, Run!” This has since become her motto and the title of a book she later has written.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】On her second marathon in Portland, she had her foot injured. A doctor told her she had to stop her run. He said, “I’ve got to put a cast on your ankle so that you don’t sustain permanent damage.” Hearing that, she felt upset. She said, “Isn’t there a way I can keep running?” He gave her one option. He could wrap it in adhesive instead of putting it in a cast. He warned her that it would be incredibly painful, and he told her, “It will blister.” She told the doctor to wrap it up. She finished the run to Portland.
Half a year later, Patti ran in Washington and finally shook the hand of the President. She told him happily, “I wanted people to know that epileptics are normal human beings with normal lives.” Because of her noble efforts, enough money had been raised to open up 19 multi-million-dollar epileptic centers around the country. If Patti Wilson can do so much with so little, what can you do to outperform yourself in a state of total wellness?

Passage 1
(山东省临沂市郯城第一中学2024-2025学年高三上学期期末考试英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The minute we got into the taxi, I had a bad feeling. The driver asked me to fasten the kid’s safety belt after I already had. His half-violent attitude made me uncomfortable.
Lev was almost 4 then. Unlike me, he cared less about the driver and focused mainly on the scenery along the way. He sang quietly to himself with his short legs waving in the air. At one point, his right sandal (凉鞋) hit the taxi’s plastic ashtray, knocking it over onto the floor. It was empty; nothing spilled. I had already bent to pick it up when the driver stopped the car suddenly, turned around to us and, with his face really close to my son’s face, began screaming. “You stupid kid. You broke my car!”
“Hey, are you crazy or something?” I shouted at the driver. “Yelling (大喊) at a 3-year-old because of a piece of plastic? Turn around and start driving, or I swear, next week you will not be driving any public vehicle, you hearme?” When I saw that he was about to say something, I added,“Shut yourmouth now and drive!”
The driver gave me a hateful look. I could sense he was weighing the choice between hitting me in the face and losing hisjob. After a long moment’s silence, he took a deep breath, turned around, and drove on.
On the taxi’s radio, somebody was singing “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” but I felt very far from happy. I looked at Lev and tried to find another ray of light in that unpleasant ride, but I couldn’t. I smiled at Lev and held his hand. He looked at me hard, but didn’t smile back. “Daddy,” he asked, “what did the man say?”
“The man said,” I answered quickly, as if it were nothing, “that when you’re riding in a car, you have to watch how you move your legs so you don’t break anything.” Lev nodded, looked out the window and a second later asked, “And what did you say to the man?”
“Me?” I said to Lev, trying to gain a little time. “I told the man that he was right, but that he should say quietly and politely, and not yell.”

【答案】Paragraph 1: “But you yelled at him,” Lev said, confused. I was at a loss for words, realizing my son was correct. Taking a deep breath, I said, “You’re right, Lev. I did exactly what I told him not to do. I should not have raised my voice, no matter how upset I was.” Lev looked at me thoughtfully and asked, “So why didn’t you talk quietly and politely like you told him to?” I hesitated for a moment and replied softly, “Because sometimes adults don’t handle anger well, and I will try to do better next time.”Lev gave a small nod, still unsure, but he seemed to accept my explanation.
Paragraph 2: The driver stopped the car and turned around. He glanced at me briefly and then turned his head to Lev, clearly still annoyed. “I overreacted earlier,” he muttered. “Sorry, kid.” Lev looked at him, his face serious, and said, “It’s okay, but next time, talk nicely. My dad says that’s better.” The driver blinked in surprise and then nodded, starting the car again without another word. I felt a sense of relief mixed with pride. Lev had reminded both the driver and me of a gentler approach to handling conflict.

We’d just downsized our home. As grateful as I was to have a roof over our heads, I couldn’t help but feel blue. Our old house was beautiful and huge. Our current home? Half the size and crowded. We’d had to give away or throw away a lot of our stuff. But there were still boxes everywhere, from the family room to the garage (车库).
The day after the move, while the kids were in school, I tackled more boxes. By the afternoon, I’d made real progress. The furniture was unpacked. The photos were hanging on the walls. But it just didn’t feel like home.
Maybe I could change that. I checked the kitchen cupboard and saw that I had enough ingredients to bake chocolate chip cookies. Just like my grandma used to make whenever I needed cheering up. Wouldn’t that be a nice surprise for the kids? When they got home from school, there’d be fresh cookies waiting for them on the kitchen counter.
I put on my apron (围裙), measured out the brown sugar and butter and got to work. One by one, I added eggs to the mixer (搅拌机).
POP!
What in the world? The mixer stopped working. My mixer was broken. “Really?!” I felt like screaming. It was just a kitchen device, but it felt like the last straw. What more did I have to give up?
What would my grandma do? She’d lived through the Great Depression and had lost everything. Even in the face of hardship, she’d kept her family together. She used whatever she had to get by. Grandma wouldn’t quit. She’d find another way. Inspired, I ran to the garage and searched the remaining boxes. Found it!
I pulled out Grandma’s old white mixer. The one she’d passed on to me. She’d purchased it back in the 50’s and it was ancient. I’d marked the box it was in as “easily broken”, but the movers hadn’t paid attention. They’d dropped it anyway.

【答案】范文
I wondered if it still worked. With a mixture of hope and doubt, I plugged it in and turned it on. To my surprise, the old mixer hummed to life, blending the ingredients with a satisfying rhythm. It wasn’t as powerful as my modern one, but it was doing its job. As I continued mixing, I thought about how she had always been able to find joy in the simplest things. This old mixer was a symbol of her resilience and determination. I was determined to make the best cookies possible with it, just like she had done for me so many times before.
Two hours later, the kids opened the door and said, “Mmmm, cookies!” Their faces lit up with surprise and delight as they saw the plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies on the kitchen counter. They each took a cookie, bit into it, and sighed with happiness. I watched them, feeling a deep sense of satisfaction. The cookies had done their magic, bringing a touch of warmth and love to our smaller space. And as I looked at Grandma’s old mixer, I realized that sometimes, the things we think are broken can still bring us the greatest joy.

My younger sister Lily is a picky eater — she sticks mostly to pasta and fruit—and can be hesitant to try new things. She often says she’s afraid of unfamiliar experiences, but I think it’s just shyness.
Last year, Lily and I were preparing for our winter break trip together. I came up with a fun rule: we would say yes to everything. I wanted to encourage her to be more adventurous, but I didn’t want to use the usual “You’ll regret it if you don’t try it” line. So, I borrowed the idea of a “Yes Day” from a movie we had seen. We agreed that for the entire trip, we would say yes to everything — whether it was food, activities, or new experiences.
We started saying yes before we even left our hometown. At the train station, we stopped at a food court, and I decided to try a local snack that looked strange. Lily, who usually avoids anything unfamiliar, agreed to take a small bite. Neither of us went back for more, but we both agreed that it wasn’t as bad as we had expected.
Later in the trip, we decided to try a yoga class at our hotel. Lily was skeptical at first, but she agreed to join. It was our first time trying yoga, and we ended up laughing through the whole thing. It was awkward, but fun, and neither of us had ever felt so relaxed and silly at the same time. We also took up a cooking class. Neither of us was great in the kitchen, but we worked together and it ended up being delicious!
When we got back home, we learned that our school was holding a singing competition in the coming semester. At first, I wasn’t sure if Lily would want to participate, especially since she had always been shy about performing in front of a crowd. I really hoped that she could take up the challenge with me, knowing that she has a beautiful voice.

【答案】
I reminded her of our “Yes Day” rule from the trip. “Remember how much fun we had on vacation, trying new things together?” I said. “This could be just another adventure!” After a few moments of silence, Lily looked up at me and nodded slowly, with a smile on her face. “Okay,” she agreed. “I’ll do it with you.” With her decision made, we immediately began to prepare for the competition. Every day after school, we practiced together. We spent hours practicing our song, and I could tell that Lily was beginning to feel more confident with each passing day. Slowly but surely, we became a team, united by our shared goal.
On the day of the talent show, we were nervous but ready. Standing backstage, our hearts raced, but I squeezed Lily’s hand, encouraging her. As we walked onto the stage, I looked at her and felt a wave of confidence. Together, we sang, and Lily’s beautiful voice filled the room. It didn’t matter that we didn’t win; the experience of trying something new together was unforgettable. We had pushed ourselves, worked as a team, and, most importantly, had fun — just like we did during our vacation adventures.

Life was peaceful in the town of Willow Creek. But one chilly autumn morning, a new neighbor moved in across the street. He was a college student. He had brought with him a beer-pong table, which was set on his front lawn.
The beer-pong table was within full view of my kitchen window. It was a tool for the noisy, late-night parties by college students. I knew that all too well from once living near a university.
Remembering the sleepless nights caused by the sound of bouncing balls and the noises, I felt a burst of anger bubbling up like a storm. So I walked right up to the student’s house, and knocked on the door. I told him that it had to go. Instead of apologizing, he returned my anger in kind. “Who the hell are you?” he asked. “And what gives you the right to make such a ridiculous demand?”
His challenging gaze and aggressive tone added fuel to the flames of my anger. My sharp and cutting words hung in the air. I could feel the heat of my anger, and a red veil clouded my face.
The next day, I felt ashamed. Why didn’t other women get angry like me? Why couldn’t I keep it altogether? Why couldn’t I find some useful way to release the aggression?
I thought of the cookies I had made recently — big, peanut butter chocolate cookies. I had made them to apologize to a friend. Some of the dough was still in the freezer. I hadn’t intended to save the cookie dough balls for future apologies. But it was handy to have them sitting there, waiting to make things right. I decided to bake the cookies and offer them to my neighbor as a peace gesture. As the cookies baked, the house was filled with a warm, inviting smell. I placed the cookies on a plate, took a deep breath, and walked across the street.

The door opened, and I was greeted by a pair of curious eyes. I forced a smile and held out the plate of cookies. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep yesterday. It’s just that memories of past disturbances made me react strongly,” I said softly, trying to convey my sincerity through my words and expression. He looked surprised at first, then he nodded slowly. “Yeah, I get it. College parties can be a bit much sometimes. And I’m sorry if I came off as rude. I guess I was on edge.”
We shared a smile, and I felt a weight lifted off my heart. In that moment, it seemed like the hostility from our last encounter had melted away, replaced by an unspoken agreement to try and coexist peacefully. “Maybe we can find a way to enjoy that table without disturbing everyone?” he suggested with a hopeful tone. I agreed wholeheartedly, feeling a sense of relief and community spirit rekindle within me. As we discussed possible solutions, I realized that sometimes a small act of kindness can go a long way in mending fences and bridging divides.

King Of The Mountain
Some years ago, I bought a block of land in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. Before the house was built, I spent a lot of time choosing where it should be situated. The land was surrounded by rolling hills covered in eucalyptus trees, their leaves shining in the sun. Birds sang from the branches, and the air smelled fresh and clean, a sharp contrast to the noisy city life I had left behind. Occasionally, I would spot small animals rushing through the undergrowth or hear the soft rustle (沙沙声) of leaves in the light gentle wind. It felt like stepping into a different world-one that belonged entirely to nature.
One afternoon, while hammering wooden pegs (桩) into the ground to mark out the shape of the house, I didn’t notice a kangaroo not far from me. I was so focused on my work that I didn’t see the shadow fall across the ground until I felt it. Surprised, I looked up to find a kangaroo standing tall beside a flowering bush, as if guarding it. He was massive and strong, his body outlined against the soft hills in the background. His thick legs and broad chest gave him an powerful presence, yet his movements were calm and deliberate (从容不迫), like a silent guardian of the land.
His appearance was unforgettable: a fighter with scars on his head and chest, and ears worn and torn, perhaps from past battles. His dark eyes were sharp and watchful, yet there was something peaceful about the way he stood, as if he knew he belonged there, far more than I did. For a moment, we stared at each other-me, an uninvited guest in his world, and he, the unchallenged king of this wild, natural place. Then, with a soft sound, he turned and hopped (跳跃) off into the distance, his strong tail leaving marks in the soft ground. I stood still for a long time, watching him disappear into the trees. After that, he often visited my land, though we both kept our distance.

【答案】When the house was finally completed, I often saw him around, especially during cold nights. One freezing winter evening, as I turned on the porch light, I was shocked to see a kangaroo sitting calmly on my front doormat, seeking warmth against the coldness. It was him - the same strong kangaroo. I smiled and I decided to name him Big Joe. Slowly, I opened the front door. Big Joe raised his head and looked at me with steady eyes, then hopped gracefully off the mat in a single powerful leap, landing on the lawn. I couldn’t hold back my laughter and said out loud, “My doormat can be yours anytime. ”
Strangely, from that night onwards, a special relationship developed between Big Joe and me. He seemed to accept me as part of his territory. He no longer hopped away when I approached but instead continued to chew the grass in my yard with a calm, steady step. It felt as if we had formed a silent understanding: I would let him be, and he would respect my home. His presence brought me comfort, a reminder that nature and mankind could coexist in harmony. Big Joe remained the king of the mountain, and I was honored to be his neighbor.

(山东省济宁市第一中学2023-2024学年高三上学期2月定时检测(期末)英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Julia always enjoyed running through The Dark Walk towards the light at the end of it. It was a dark, damp tunnel (隧道) made of smooth branches. This year she had the extra joy of showing it to her small brother, Stephen, and terrifying him as well as herself.
One day they found a hole on one side of the walk. Inside there was water, in which they perceived a panting trout (喘息的鳟鱼). They were both so excited that they were no longer afraid of the darkness as they bent down and peered at the fish panting in his tiny prison, his silver stomach going up and down like an engine; otherwise he was motionless. Julia wondered what he ate and thought of his hunger. She found him a worm. He ignored the food, and just went on panting. Bending over him, she thought how he had been in there. All the winter, in the dark tunnel, all day, all night, floating around alone.
Nobody knew how the fish got there. Her mother suggested that a bird had carried the egg. Her father thought that in the winter a small stream might have carried it down there as a baby, and it has been safe until summer came and the water began to dry up. Before they went to bed, Stephen asked his mummy the whole story of the trout, not really interested in the actual trout, but in the story which his mum began to make up for him, and Julia, in her bed, presented her back to them and read her book. But she kept one ear cocked. “And so, in the end, this naughty fish got bigger and bigger, and the water got smaller and smaller...” Passionately, she turned around and cried, “Mummy, don’t make it a horrible old moral story. Her mom even brought in a fairy (仙子), who had made it rain and filled the hole, so that the trout could float away down to the river below. Staring at the moon she knew there was no such thing as a fairy and that trout, down in the tunnel, was panting for his life.

【答案】范文
She sat up in the silent night and Stephan was sound asleep. She tiptoed out, quietly lifted a large pot of water and ran to the opening of the tunnel. Inside was complete darkness! Scared but determined, she raced in, knelt down by the hole, and put her hand into it. The trout lashed and they were both mad with fright. Still she managed to shove him into the pot and raced out of the tunnel and down the steep paths. All the way his tail was lashing against the pot. Finally, she reached the riverbank.
Julia poured the trout out of the pot into the river. For the first seconds the somewhat dizzy creature was still visible in the water. Then all she saw was the faint light of the moon in the silent-flowing river. In relief, she trotted back home, dropped down the pot, and flew through the air like a bird into bed. Soon she fell asleep, satisfied and peaceful. The next morning Stephen rushed to her, shouting that “he” was gone and asking “where” and “how”. Lifting her nose in the air, she proudly laughed, “A fairy, I suppose?”

Passage 3
(山东省滨州市惠民县2023-2024学年高三上学期期末考试英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was in the bleak midwinter, and the travelling couple struggled through the cold night, seeking shelter. The father-to-be scanned the roadside for some home, some inn where his struggling companion might rest safely for the night. He looked over at her frequently. She labored along, her way made heavier by the new life growing inside her. They needed a warm, dry place safe from the bitter wind. When her time came, it must not be out here along the roadway. Their names were not Mary and Joseph, but Pepper and Cooper. Nor were they man and wife, but rather a pair of dogs, and the place was on a rural highway outside of town.
That December night, Gus Kiebel, a county wildlife officer, was driving home from work when he spotted the pair in the flash of his headlights. It was snowing so hard that it was difficult to see, but he could tell the dogs were wearing collars and tags. What were they doing out here on this road?
He parked his truck and approached the animals. Gus squatted(蹲下)and stretched out his hands to the dogs, which made no effort to escape, Gus read their tags by his truck’s headlights. He pulled out his phone to call the number listed, but it was snowing so hard that his screen blurred(模糊不清的). He placed the dogs in his truck, on the floor of the passenger side. By the time he came around to the driver5s side, he found that they had climbed onto the passenger seat and were snuggled (依偎)together there. Gus dried his phone, took a picture of the pair and sent it to his wife, Katie Kiebel. Then he dialed the number from the dogs’ tags. A man answered and immediately grew defensive when Gus told him why he was calling.
“I gave those dogs away,” the man said. “They’re not mine anymore. ”
“Well, do you want them back?” Gus asked.
“No. I can’t take care of them. ” The man answered.

“You cannot put them back in the snow,” Katie said.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Then the man hung up. Gus then tried calling the county dog warden’s office. Being after hours, the best he could do was leave a message, but what to do next? Gus had always wanted beagles as pets, but he and his wife already had a dog and couldn’t take on two more. With nothing left to do, he called Katie.
“You cannot put them back in the snow,” Katie said. Katie told Gus to bring them home, which is probably what he was hoping to hear anyway but just wanted confirmation. Once there, the good-hearted couple prepared a bed for the Cooper and Pepper on their warm, enclosed porch. They also set out food and water for them to replenish their energy. The exhausted dogs snuggled together, Cooper lifting his weary head from time to time to fuss over Pepper. The two would spend the night there, safe and warm, until morning came.
【导语】本文以人物为线索展开,讲述了县野生动物官员格斯·基贝尔在回家的路上,遇到了两只流浪狗,以及如何和妻子一起帮助它们的故事。

(山东省日照市2023-2024学年高三上学期1月期末校际联合考试英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

The street competition involves skaters performing daring tricks on a tough course that features rails and gaps. September 28, 2023, the big day for Cui came.

(山东省部分学校2024-2025学年高三毕业班上学期学业水平质量检测英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

(山东省枣庄市2024-2025学年高三上学期1月期末英语试题)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
