Before the Internet age, critical thinking was the most important skill of people. But in the digital age, according to Anastasia Kozyreva, a famous psychologist, a more important skill is critical ignoring.
As researchers point out, we live in an attention economy where content producers on the Internet compete for our attention. They attract us with many eye-catching stories while providing little useful information, so they can expose (使接触) us to profit-generating advertisements. Therefore, we are not customers but products, and each link we click is a sale of our time and attention. To protect ourselves from this, Kozyreva advocates for learning the skill of critical ignoring, in which readers can control their information environment to reduce exposure to low-quality or false information.
According to Kozyreva, critical ignoring includes three strategies. The first is to design our environments, which includes removing low-quality yet hard-to-resist information. Successful dieters need to keep unhealthy food out of their homes. Similarly, we need to set up a digital environment where attention-attracting items are kept out of sight. Like dieting, if one tries to depend on willpower not to click eye-catching “news”, they'll surely fail. So, it's better to keep them out of sight at first!
The next is to evaluate the reliability of information, the purpose of which is to protect you from false information. It can be realized by checking the source in the mainstream news agencies, which are trustworthy.
The last is: “never feed the trolls.” Trolls are some people who spread false information online to cause harm. Do not correct them, because they do not care about whether the information is correct. Annoying others is their goal. So, never respond to their bad behaviour with our attention.
By using the above critical ignoring skills, we can make the most of the Internet while avoiding falling victim to those who try to control our attention, time and minds.

Line judges dressed in stylish uniforms have always been the typical tradition of Wimbledon. But that long-held tradition will be no more to be seen. The All England Club has announced that artificial intelligence will be used to make the “out” and “fault” calls at the championships from 2025, removing the need for human officials to make them.
Wimbledon is replacing line judges with electronic line-calling, the latest step into the modern age by the oldest Grand Slam tennis tournament (锦标赛). Wimbledon organizers said their decision to adopt live electronic line-calling was made following wide-ranging tryouts at the 2024 tournament and built on the existing ball-tracking and line-calling technology that had been in place for many years.
“We consider the technology to be sufficiently forceful and the time is right to take this important step in seeking the greatest accuracy in our judgement,” said Sally Bolton, chief executive of the All England Club. “For the players, it will offer them the same conditions they have played under at a number of other events.”
For traditionalists, line judges dressed in famously fine uniforms were part of the furniture at the All England Club. Bolton said Wimbledon had a responsibility to keep the balance between tradition and innovation. “Line judges have played a central role. And we thank them for their devotion and service,” she said.
At the U.S. Open, there has been no line judges — and only chair judges —since 2021, with Hawk-Eye Live electronic line-calling used for all courts. The All England Club said that the women's and men's singles finals will be scheduled to take place at the later time of 4 p.m.local time on the second Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Bolton said the moves have been made to ensure that the day of the finals builds towards the greatest part of the ladies' and gentlemen's singles finals, with our champions being crowned (加冕) in front of the largest possible worldwide audience.
1.What is the basis for Wimbledon's decision?( )
A.Current rules. B.Multiple tests.
C.Line judges' strong demands. D.The latest electronic techniques.
2.How will players probably respond to the adoption of technology?( )
A.They will play as ever before.
B.They will oppose the technology.
C.They will be excited about the change.
D.They will try hard to adapt to new facilities.
3.What can be inferred from paragraph 4?( )
A.It is unacceptable to remove line judges.
B.Line judges' contributions are well appreciated.
C.Traditionalists try to balance tradition and development.
D.Line judges' uniforms will always be the symbol of the All England Club.
4.Why does Bolton mention champions being crowned?( )
A.To present the process of the match.
B.To explain how exciting the match is.
C.To show her expectation of AI's application.
D.To analyze the reasons for the success of the finals.

Trash-Eating Robots
It has become common knowledge that our oceans are filled with garbage. Broken objects, used plastic bottles and so on fill our beaches and cover the ocean floor.1.___ Many individuals and organizations are working to remove the garbage and recent technological developments have given them a new tool to do so: trash-eating robots.
Robots of various shapes have been designed to collect garbage that they find floating in the ocean. For example, the French company IADYS has developed what it calls the jellyfishbot.2.___ It is remotely controlled and can clean up to 1,000 square meters per hour. It contains a net that can hold up to 30 liters. The jellyfishbots' small size and ability to be easily controlled make them ideal for cleaning up crowded areas such as ports.
3.___ Designed for use on rivers, the Interceptor looks like a boat with a conveyor belt that picks up trash. A shallow barrier attached to the Interceptor guides floating trash to the conveyor belt, but fish can swim under it safely. Once a sensor indicates that the dustbins are full, the Interceptor automatically sends a text message to onshore operators. 4.___
Most of the garbage in the oceans comes down from rivers.5.___ Hence the Interceptor helps a lot to stop pollution before it enters the ocean. The Interceptor is completely solar-powered and operates on its own, which minimizes the need for human involvement.
Robots are able to clean up large amounts of garbage without humans struggling with the beach cleanup by hand. Hopefully, they can be a big part of the solution to ocean pollution.
(
A.It isn't just about removing the garbage from oceans.
B.Immense damage is being caused to ocean creatures.
C.If all goes well, they're hoping to expand the number of the robots.
D.This small robot gathers up everything it encounters, including oil.
E.To keep the oceans clean, new garbage must be stopped from getting there.
F.Then the garbage will be collected and sent to local waste management facilities.
G.For more open areas, a larger robot called the Interceptor has a similar function.
