根据文章American Museum of Natural History Online Camp部分“The camps are divided into grades 2-3, 4-6 and 7-9. Camps for grades 2-3 include Key to the Kingdoms of Life and Planetary Power, while grades 4-6 can acquire geological (地质学的) knowledge with What’s Written in a Rock and 7-9 can explore the Earth’s flowers and plants with Building Biodiversity.(该营地按2-3年级、4-6年级和7-9年级划分。 根据文章Community Cookbook Camp部分“Campers will follow step-by-step instructions that empower them to prepare meals for their families.(营员将遵循分步指导,学习为家人准备餐食。)” D。 B Growing up in Canada, Benjamin Gulak took part in science fairs from a young age. Drawing had also been a part of Gulak’s life, and he even did an abroad program of fine arts study in Italy during high school. Driven to try selling his art, he worked with some leading art galleries (画廊) in London and Miami. Over time, he began connecting artists he’d met on travels from developing markets like Cuba, Egypt, and Brazil to the gallery owners he knew. “The results were amazing because these artists were used to selling their work to tourists for $50, and suddenly they’re hanging work in a high-end gallery and getting 5,000 pounds,” Gulak said. “It was the same artist but different buyers. Traditional galleries usually act as gatekeepers. Their picky selection (挑剔的选择) process is why many galleries usually show similar artists’ works. There are plenty of creative minds out there whose great art has never been seen outside of the local market.” For a class project at college, Gulak built a system that tried to guess the types of art that would do well in a gallery. As a computer scientist, he later started NALA, which stands for Networked Artistic Learning Algorithm (算法). The company allows artists to upload works and choose their listing price. Gulak notes that not all art will sell. “If you’re making rock paintings, there may not be a big market,” he said. “Artists may price their work higher than buyers are willing to pay, but the algorithm works to put art in front of the possible buyers based on style preferences and price points.” Gulak was once visiting Egypt when he discovered a beautiful painting on the street. Gulak found a local artist, Ahmed Nofal, and bought some works. Later, he brought Nofal to take part in World Art Dubai, an international art fair. The artist’s work was so well-received there. “When artists visit NALA, we discuss together, sharing ideas. These experiences also give me a unique view, pushing me to explore new partnerships and fresh projects.” Gulak said. 4. What do we know about Benjamin Gulak? A. He prefers digital art to science. B. He has a rich artistic background. C. He supported himself in several ways. D. He found creative ideas through travels. 5. What does Gulak say about traditional galleries? A. They aim at wealthy art collectors. B. They have influenced popular art styles. C. They leave many talented artists unnoticed. D. They slow down international art exchanges. 6. How does NALA mainly benefit the artists? A. By providing training in art marketing. B. By setting higher prices for their works. C. By getting their art into famous galleries. D. By matching artworks with suitable buyers. 7. What does Gulak suggest about his partnership with artists like Nofal? A. It is a difficult process. B. It is a win-win situation. C. It is a short-term success. D. It makes NALA well known. B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“Growing up in Canada, Benjamin Gulak took part in science fairs from a young age. Drawing had also been a part of Gulak’s life, and he even did an abroad program of fine arts study in Italy during high school. (Benjamin Gulak在加拿大长大,从小就参加科学展览。绘画也是Gulak生活的一部分,他甚至在高中时就去意大利参加了一个美术学习项目)”可知,Benjamin Gulak有丰富的艺术背景。故选B项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“Traditional galleries usually act as gatekeepers. Their picky selection (挑剔的选择) process is why many galleries usually show similar artists’ works. There are plenty of creative minds out there whose great art has never been seen outside of the local market. (传统画廊通常扮演着守门人的角色。正是其挑剔的筛选机制,导致多数画廊往往展出相似艺术家的作品。众多创意天才的杰出艺术作品,因此难以突破地域限制进入更广阔的视野)”可知,Gulak认为传统画廊的挑剔选择过程使得许多有才华的艺术家难以突破地域限制进入更广阔的视野,未能被注意到。故选C项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“As a computer scientist, he later started NALA, which stands for Networked Artistic Learning Algorithm (算法). The company allows artists to upload works and choose their listing price. Gulak notes that not all art will sell. “If you’ re making rock paintings, there may not be a big market,” he said. “Artists may price their work higher than buyers are willing to pay, but the algorithm works to put art in front of the possible buyers based on style preferences and price points.” (作为计算机科学家,他后来创立了NALA(网络艺术学习算法)公司。该平台允许艺术家上传作品并自主定价。古拉克指出并非所有艺术品都能售出:“如果你创作的是岩石画,市场可能有限。艺术家或许会将作品定价高于买家心理预期,但算法能根据风格偏好与价格区间,将艺术品精准推送给潜在购买者。”)”可知,NALA主要帮助艺术家将艺术作品与合适的买家匹配。故选D项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Later, he brought Nofal to take part in World Art Dubai, an international art fair. The artist’s work was so well-received there. “When artists visit NALA, we discuss together, sharing ideas. These experiences also give me a unique view, pushing me to explore new partnerships and fresh projects.” Gulak said. (后来,他带Nofal参加了国际艺术博览会——迪拜世界艺术展。这位艺术家的作品在那里很受欢迎。“当艺术家们来到NALA,我们会共同探讨、交流创意。这些经历也赋予我独特视角,推动我不断探索新型合作与创新项目。”Gulak说)”可知,Gulak与像Nofal这样的艺术家的合作取得了成功,双方都从中受益,所以这是一个双赢的局面。故选B项。 C Many parents find themselves in a long-term struggle with their teenage children, and years may pass as they see no clear winner. The struggle between parents and teenagers is like a border conflict (边界冲突) between neighboring countries, and the key battle is over the same thing: where the line should be between my control and your actions. Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, teens see the situation in the same way, but the other way around. Both feel trapped. In this article, I’ll describe three no win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no win situation quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the colour of the teen’s hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child’s failure to eat a good breakfast before school, or his tendency to sleep until noon on the weekends. Second, blaming. The goal of a blaming battle is to make the other admit that his bad attitude is the reason why everything goes wrong. Third, needing to be right. It doesn’t matter what the topic is — politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg — the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority — someone who actually knows something — and therefore to earn respect. Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they’ll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress. But does it have to be this way? 8. In what way is a parent-teen war similar to a border conflict? A. Neither has any clear winner. B. Both can continue for generations. C. Neither can be put to an end. D. Both are about where to draw the line. 9. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Teens agree with their parents. B. Teens say their parents mislead them. C. Teens say their parents started the fight. D. Teens usually understand their parents well. 10. Why do parents and teens want to be right? A. To give orders to the other. B. To guide the other’s behaviour. C. To get recognition from the other. D. To prove their knowledge is superior. 11. What will the author most probably discuss in the paragraph that follows? A. Causes of the parent teen conflicts. B. Solutions to the parent teen problems. C. Examples of the parent teen war. D. Future of the parent teen relationship. D 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第一段中“The struggle between parents and teenagers is like a border conflict (边界冲突) between neighboring countries, and the key battle is over the same thing: where the line should be between my control and your actions. (父母和青少年之间的斗争就像邻国之间的边界冲突,关键的战斗是为了同一件事:我的控制和你的行为之间的界限应该在哪里)”可知,父母和青少年之间的战争与边界冲突相似,因为两者都是关于划定界限的问题。故选D项。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段中“From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, teens see the situation in the same way, but the other way around. (从父母的角度看,这场冲突的唯一根源就是青少年的完全不可理喻。而青少年当然也以同样的方式看待这种情况——只不过立场截然相反)”可知,父母认为青少年不讲道理,而青少年则认为父母不讲道理,即青少年认为是父母挑起了争吵。由此推知,划线部分意为“青少年说他们的父母挑起了争吵”。故选C项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“It doesn’t matter what the topic is — politics, the laws of physics, or the proper way to break an egg — the point of these arguments is to prove that you are right and the other person is wrong, for both wish to be considered an authority — someone who actually knows something — and therefore to earn respect. (争论的话题无关紧要——无论是政治、物理定律还是打蛋的正确方法——这些辩论的核心都在于证明自己是正确的而对方是错误的,因为双方都希望被视作权威——真正博识之人——从而赢得尊重)”可知,父母和青少年都希望自己是正确的,是为了得到对方的认可。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“In this article, I’ll describe three no win situations that commonly arise between teens and parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. (在这篇文章中,我将描述青少年和父母之间常见的三种没有赢家的局面,然后提出一些摆脱困境的方法)”以及“Unfortunately, as long as parents and teens continue to assume that they know more than the other, they’ll continue to fight these battles forever and never make any real progress. But does it have to be this way? (不幸的是,只要父母和青少年继续认为自己比对方懂得更多,他们就会永远继续这些战斗,永远不会取得任何真正的进展。但必须这样吗?)”可推知,作者在接下来的段落中很可能会讨论解决父母和青少年之间问题的方法。故选B项。 D With the changing climate across the world, bird species that live in tropical (热带的) areas — specifically in the remote, deep parts of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest — are slowly getting smaller in size. It was found that 80 tropical bird species had experienced a drop in body mass (体重) over the past 40 years. However, why the birds changed in that way was unknown. Therefore, researchers decided to study the records of 15,000 birds living in a rainforest within a few hours’ drive from Manaus in Brazil. The average temperature of the birds’ habitat is 1℃ warmer in the wet season and 1.65℃ warmer in the dry season, compared with that in 40 years ago. What’s more, 13% more rain falls in the wet season and 15% less in the dry season. The birds have lost body mass more sharply after extremely dry or wet seasons. This could be a short-term response to changes in their environment, such as a lack of rainfall causing a drop in the number of insects that the birds feed on. “Mass is a generally good indication of body condition in birds,” says Vitek Jirinec at the Integral Ecology Research Center in California, who led the study. “If they’re simply not getting enough to eat, you’d expect them to lose weight.” Birds of the same species are generally larger in colder areas. The leading theory is that their smaller surface-area-to-volume ratio (表面积和体积比) allows them to better save heat. “The opposite would help smaller species in hot climates to cool and could explain why birds are getting smaller as the climate warms,” says Jirinec. “The physical changes during just four decades show why stopping destroying trees alone won’t prevent the ongoing extinctions of animal species across the world.” says Camila Gomez, a scientist who studies evolutionary changes in birds. “This study also shows how human caused changes in climate are contributing to observed population declines in tropical birds.” says Gomez. 12. According to the first paragraph, what was the purpose of the study? A. To record the changes in birds’ body mass. B. To prepare them for their future migration. C. To find the reason for their weight change. D. To find a way to save the Amazon rainforest. 13. In the study, what habitat changes did researchers find? A. High temperatures are rare. B. Weather gets more extreme. C. Wet seasons are getting drier. D. Rainfall increases in dry seasons. 14. How does Jirinec see the fact that birds are losing weight? A. It helps them lose extra heat. B. It makes them feel less cold. C. It keeps them in good shape. D. It enables them to hide easily. 15. What might be the best title for the text? A. Global Warming Is Threatening the Habits of Birds. B. Tropical Birds Population Is Experiencing a Sharp Drop. C. Tropical Birds Are Struggling to survive Dry Climates. D. Climate Change Is Causing Some Birds to Lose Weight. C 13. B 14. A 15. 根据文章第一段“It was found that 80 tropical bird species had experienced a drop in body mass (体重) over the past 40 years. However, why the birds changed in that way was unknown. Therefore, researchers decided to study the records of 15,000 birds living in a rainforest within a few hours’ drive from Manaus in Brazil.(据发现,80种热带鸟物种在过去的40年里已经经历了体重下降。然而,鸟类为什么会发生这种变化还不得而知。因此,研究人员决定研究15000只鸟的记录,这些鸟类生活在距离巴西玛瑙斯几个小时车程的热带雨林中。)”可知,此研究的目的是为了研究鸟类体重下降的原因。故选C。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“What’s more, 13% more rain falls in the wet season and 15% less in the dry season. The birds have lost body mass more sharply after extremely dry or wet seasons.(更重要的是,雨季降雨量增加13%,旱季降雨量减少15%。在极端干燥或潮湿的季节之后,这些鸟的体重会急剧下降。)”可知,被研究的鸟类的栖息地的雨季降雨量增加13%,旱季反而减少15%。由此可推断,鸟类栖息地的气候模式变得更为极端。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Birds of the same species are generally larger in colder areas. The leading theory is that their smaller surface-area-to-volume ratio (表面积和体积比) allows them to better save heat. “The opposite would help smaller species in hot climates to cool and could explain why birds are getting smaller as the climate warms,” says Jirinec. (同一种类的鸟在较冷的地区通常体型较大。主要的理论是,它们较小的表面积体积比使它们能够更好地保存热量。Jirinec说,“相反的情况可以帮助气候炎热的小型物种降温,并可以解释为什么随着气候变暖,鸟类会变得越来越小。”)”可知,在较冷的地区鸟的体型较大,从而能更好地保存热量,在Vitek Jirinec看来,相反的情况可以帮助它们降温,也就是鸟类体重减轻有利于它们散热。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是文章第一段“With the changing climate across the world, bird species that live in tropical (热带的) areas — specifically in the remote, deep parts of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest — are slowly getting smaller in size. It was found that 80 tropical bird species had experienced a drop in body mass (体重) over the past 40 years.(随着世界气候的变化,生活在热带地区——尤其是遥远的巴西亚马逊雨林深处的热带鸟类的体型变得越来越小。80种热带鸟物种在过去的40年里已经经历了体重下降。)可知,文章主要介绍了一个研究发现——气候变化导致一些热带鸟类的体重在下降,体型缩小。故D项“气候变化导致一些鸟类体重下降”能概括全文内容。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Advertise School Clubs Are you starting a new club and need more members? You’ll need to advertise in different ways to get people to join. ___16___. Put an easy-to-remember message in the school’s morning talks! Start the message with something clever and exciting to get listener’s attention. ___17___. Too much information might make students bored and stop listening. Instead, give them the time and location of the first meeting and invite everyone to attend! Make bright, colorful flyers (传单) and posters to hang up around the building. B Growing up in Canada, Benjamin Gulak took part in science fairs from a young age. C Many parents find themselves in a long-term struggle with their teenage children, and years may pass as they see no clear winner. D With the changing climate across the world, bird species that live in tropical (热带的) areas — specifically in the remote, deep parts of Brazil’s Amazon rainforest — are slowly getting smaller in size. “The opposite would help smaller species in hot climates to cool and could explain why birds are getting smaller as the climate warms” says Jirinec. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Advertise School Clubs Are you starting a new club and need more members?
