①Recently a buzzword (流行语)—lie down, which means tangping in Chinese, has caught public attention. It describes people who have no dreams and do little. The idea of lying down is popular with many young people.
②According to Global Times, burdens (负担), including academic (学业的) pressure, work stress and family relations, make young people very tired. They say they hate the “involution (内卷)”, and they even want to give up some of what they have instead of getting into endless competitions.
③Interestingly, most of these young people, who claim to be big fans of lying down, only accept lying down as a short rest. It is true that with the great improvement of living conditions, they don’t want to bear too much hard work. But in fact, lying down doesn’t make them so comfortable. Young people who lie down always feel ashamed about their loss of chances and confidence in achieving the dreams. That’s why many of them choose to go back to their normal life.
④“The ‘996’ working schedule and the high price of houses forced me to give up the job in Shenzhen. But moving to Dali doesn’t seem so pleasant. I can’t find a good job there and I’m running out of money,” a computer engineer told Global Times. “It’s useless to run away. Now I’m thinking about returning to Shenzhen where I can get more chances and better pay.”
⑤So instead of lying down, what can young people do under the great pressure from study, work, housing, or parenthood? The first thing is to ask themselves, “ ▲ ?” Big goals can be difficult for people to keep, while proper goals won’t give them so much pressure.
⑥Second, young people can write down all changes, no matter how small they seem, because these small changes finally become the big ones that they look forward to. Then they will have energy to go on trying their best.
⑦Third, the most important is not to compare with others. Young people should celebrate what is happening on their journey of life, and tell themselves “I don’t need to work and live so hard all the time”. Sometimes, it’s best to have a rest before going on again.
24. According to the Global Times, what is the cause of the “lying down” lifestyle among young people?
A. health problems B. the fear of making mistakes
C. poor living conditions D. the pressure from work and life
25. What can be inferred about young people from the passage?
A. don’t like the involution at all B. really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle
C. never really give up achieving their dreams D. avoid challenges (挑战) instead of facing them
26. Which of the following sentences can be put in the ▲ ?
A. Do I have proper goals B. Should I have more goals
C. When should I set my goals D. How can I reach my goals
27. What may be the best structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
C
Our government has raised the child limit for couples from two to three because of the lower birth rates. For many years, China used a one-child policy as a way to control the population. But that policy was replaced in 2016 with a two-child policy. That change was to raise the number of births. But birth rates have further decreased (减少) in recent years because the cost of raising children in Chinese cities keeps high.
The latest measure to allow three children every family means “to actively deal with the aging population (人口老龄化),” the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The policy includes what the government calls “supportive measures (配套相关措施)” to make it easier for families to have more children. There are many good measures, such as reducing study costs for children and increasing housing support. The government also said it would encourage young people to love and marry.
Yifei Li is a sociologist at New York University Shanghai. She said that most families did not plan to have more children in recent years because of “the high costs of raising children in today’s China”. Zhang Xinyu is a 30-year-old mother of one from Zhengzhou in northeastern China. She said another problem was that women carried most of the responsibility for raising children. She also said, “I don’t want to have a second child. And a third is even more impossible.”
28. Why does Chinese government raise the child limit for couples from two to three?
A. Because China needs more workers.
B. Because people want to have more children.
C. Because three children are good for a family.
D. Because the birth rates have further decreased in China.
29. How many children could a couple have in 2015?
A One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
30. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Population aging is a serious problem in China.
B. The cost of raising children in Chinese cities keeps high.
C. Most families plan to have more children in recent years.
D. That change of the child limit for couples is to raise the number of births.
31. Where can we probably read this passage?
A. A storybook. B. A newspaper. C. A fashion magazine (杂志). D. A science book.
D
Why is clean water so important to developing countries? A recent report shows that about 80 percent of diseases in developing countries are caused by poor water and low sanitation (卫生) conditions. In those countries, women and girls spend several hours collecting water, but often polluted, far away from their families. The polluted water more or less influences their health. In this case, there is an urgent (迫切的) need for people in developing countries to have access to clean water to improve their health.
Here is a short story about Hadjara Zakari, a 12-year-old girl in Niger. Having access to clean water changed her life. She learned about the importance of hand-washing when the school first received clean water three years ago. That evening, she told her father, “You shouldn’t eat with me if you don’t clean your hands.” Her father was very angry and shouted at her, “It’s not up to you to tell me what to do!” Stunned (目瞪口呆的), Hadjara sat in silence. But she knew she was right. In protest, Hadjara refused to eat dinner that night. After her father questioned Hadjara’s head teacher, he understood the importance of hand-washing and his daughter’s purpose. The girl really wanted her family to live longer and healthier lives.
For people in developing countries, clean water can change many things, especially improve their health. So, from now on, let’s avoid wasting water and take action to save water, which is important to people all over the world.
32. According to the recent report, what can poor water and low sanitation conditions cause?
A. Traffic problems. B. Forest fires. C. Air pollution. D. Many illnesses.
33. What can we infer from Paragraph 2?
A. Hadjara didn’t love her father any longer.
B. Hadjara laughed at her father’s foolishness.
C Hadjara refused to eat dinner that night in order to lose weight.
D. Hadjara’s father understood his daughter’s love and care for him later.
34. What does the underlined word “protest” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. 保护 B. 抗议 C. 节约 D. 浪费
35. What’s the purpose of the writer ?
A. Teach people how to wash hands.
B. Show developing countries rich in clean water.
C. Call on people all over the world to save water.
D. Tell us about the love between Hadjara and her father.

As the world marks the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascist (反法西斯), a moving Chinese film, Dead To Rights (《南京照相馆》),gives us a special look at history. The film does not show big war scenes. Instead, it uses the photo studio to show how ordinary people wake up and fight back in difficult times of history.
In the fallen (沦陷的) city, many people find safety in Jixiang Photo Studio (照相馆). One of them is a postman called Su Liuchang, played by Liu Haoran. He was ordered to develop films for Japanese soldiers. He finds photos that show their cruel crimes (罪行). They risked their lives to keep these photos and show them to the world.
Dead To Rights is so successful. Why? All the actors and actresses are excellent and they all play their roles very well. Second, the director has made a lot of good preparation before making the movie. Besides, there are true historical facts in the movie.
However, there is something more. When the studio owner Lao Jin shouts, “Every inch of our beautiful land must never be given up,” or when modern Nanjing streets are intercut (穿插) with wartime ruins, viewers feel deeply what our forefathers (先辈) have done to protect truth and dignity. “While watching the movie, I see not just history coming to life like a photo, but a symbol of a strong, unbroken spirit of our nation,” a 24-year-old university student from Nanjing says.
Dead To Rights is a serious look back and a deep thought on history. So far, we have seen many similar movies. They all have the same things, teaching us to remember the past and value today’s peace.

How did you spend your last holiday? Were you glued (粘) to a screen from morning till night? Well, you’re not alone. It seems that many people are now online nearly all the time. According to a new survey, on average (平均), Chinese people spend five and a half hours on the Internet every day.
Let’s be honest. What do you usually do when you’re online? For many people, it’s watching short videos and checking out new moments. Instead of helping you relax, those short videos and moments cloud (使……模糊) your thinking—your brain feels like it’s not working as well as it used to. The Oxford Word of the Year, “brain rot” (脑腐), best explains this problem.
But how did we get here? And what can we do now?
Looking through these types of short videos and moments is like eating your favorite snack. Once you start, it’s hard to stop. It’s also an easy way to kill time. Why plan an outing or take up a new hobby when you have “fun” without getting up from your sofa?
But this “easy fun” comes at a price. The more time we spend glued to our screens, the less real-life joy we experience. While we are having a “good” time on Xiaohongshu and Bilibili, we are missing out on the wonders of the real world. Over time, we feel like our lives are getting boring.
It’s time to bring back “voluntary fun”. Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature. Breathe in fresh air. Enjoy the summertime. Dance with the pleasant birdsong. Just don’t let your screens take over your free time and leave your brain “rotting”!
Nowadays, many people are glued to screens, which may cause “brain rot”. This means the difficulty in ____50____ after watching too many short videos and moments. ____51____ spending so much time online? One of them is that it’s hard to stop, just like eating snacks. Also, it’s easy to kill time without much effort. However, this habit comes at a cost. The more time we spend on our screens, ____52____ our lives will be. So, how can we ____53____? Going outside to enjoy nature with our loved ones is a good choice.

【导语】本文主要介绍了重阳节名字的由来、历史及不同时期的人们庆祝重阳节的方式。
1题详解】
句意:今天,人们通常爬山和赏菊花来庆祝这一天。
with和,用;by通过;for对于,为了。根据“celebrate the day...climbing mountains and enjoying chrysanthemum (菊花)”可知,此处是介绍庆祝方式,所以用by。故选B。
【2题详解】
句意:今天,人们通常爬山赏菊来庆祝这一天,所以这个节日也被称为登高节或菊花节。
so所以,因果连词;though虽然,从属连词,不与but连用;but但是,转折连词。根据“people usually celebrate the day…climbing mountains and enjoying chrysanthemum (菊花),…the festival is also known as the Height Ascending (登高) Festival or the Chrysanthemum Festival.”可知,前后句之间是因果关系,后半句表结果,所以用so连接。故选A。
【3题详解】
句意:多么有意义的节日啊!

⑥Second young people can write down all changes, no matter how small they seem, because these small changes finally become the big ones that they look forward to.
C. poor living conditions D. the pressure from work and life
25 What can be inferred about young people from the passage?
A. don’t like the involution at all B. really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle
C. never really give up achieving their dreams D. avoid challenges (挑战) instead of facing them

【52题详解】
根据“Over time, we feel like our lives are getting boring.”可知,我们花在屏幕上的时间越多,生活就越无聊/无趣/不精彩;再根据“The more time we spend on our screens, ... our lives will be.”可知,此处是“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构;the more boring表示“越无聊”,the less interesting/ enjoyable/ joyful/ colorful/ wonderful表示“不那么有趣/愉快/快乐/丰富多彩/美妙的”。故填the more boring/the less interesting/ enjoyable/ joyful/ colorful/ wonderful。
