Food delivery (传递) is an important part of our daily lives. But did you know it started a long time ago? Dining services like today’s food delivery began during the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD220). But the term “food delivery” was first used in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). At first, it was a special service for important people. But later, it became popular among everyone.
In the Song Dynasty, China’s food takeout business reached a golden age. The book A Dream of Splendor (《东京梦华录》) says that there was a lot of food in Bianjing (today’s Kaifeng in Henan). People often bought ready-made meals from local shops. Without phones, ordering was harder than today. They had to visit a restaurant in person or send someone to make the order, then tell the restaurant when and where they needed the food, and the restaurant would bring it to them. The delivery person was called xianhan.
People wanted their delivered food to be warm and tasty. In the Song Dynasty, they had a special dish called wenpan. It was like two plates put together with space in the middle. They would pour hot water into that space to keep the food on top warm.

The soldiers stepped in perfect lines during the military parade (阅兵) on Sept 3, 2025. Maybe you would enjoy it as uniformity (整齐划一) makes us feel so good.
The reason is that our brains love orderly things. This has to do with something called “processing fluency (流畅性)”. It helps our brain do things easily, such as remembering and deciding. But why does our brain like this fluency? Scientists have different ideas. Some say it’s because our brain doesn’t have to work hard to understand. This helps us make quick choices without thinking too hard.
Another idea is that our brains learn this step by step. When things are easy to get, our brain thinks we’re safe. But if things get tricky, it might mean danger. The neocortex (新皮质), a part of our brain, plays a big part. It has 300 million brain cells that help us learn.
Processing fluency can be helpful for marketing. For example, Apple often uses this idea to make its ads simple and clear so that people understand and remember the products very easily.
49. How does the writer start the text?
A. By comparing facts B. By giving an example.
C. By sharing good feelings. D. By asking some questions.
50. According to Paragraph 3, why does uniformity make people feel good?
A. Because it is helpful for the brain. B. Because it makes the neocortex work better.
C. Because it is easy to get our brain cells. D. Because it tells the brain that everything is okay.
51. How does Apple use the idea of processing fluency in its marketing?
A. It makes its ads simple and clear. B. It sells their products in a low price.
C. It helps to buy the products easily. D. It makes quick choices without thinking hard.
52. Where can we probably see the text?
A. A story book. B. A travel magazine.
C. A science newspaper. D. A music website.

They had to visit a restaurant in person or send someone to make the order, then tell the restaurant when and where they needed the food, and the restaurant would bring it to them. The delivery person was called xianhan.

There was a monkey on an island. His name was Jumbo. Jumbo followed a rule: treat others as he wanted to be treated. But he followed the rule by mistake.
One day a big flood (洪水) came. As the water rose, Jumbo climbed up a tree. Then he looked down and saw a fish struggling (挣扎), “The fish isn’t safe in the water.” So he went down and took him in the tree. That certainly didn’t work. The fish died.
Kita was a smart monkey on this island. She also followed the rule. When the flood came, she took a fish from the water. But she imagined herself in his situation (情况). She asked, “Would I want to be taken from the water if I were in the same situation as the fish?” She answered, “No! This would kill me!” So she threw the fish into the water. The fish was saved and swam away.
Jumbo didn’t consider how different fish and monkeys are. Being taken from the water saves a monkey but kills a fish. Kita followed the rule better because she can put herself into others’ places.
53. Where did Jumbo put the fish? (不超过5个词)
________________________________________
