It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need.

“When I was young, I had so much energy and I loved building things. If I had an idea, I had to build it right now using what I could find around me,” says Danish artist Thomas Dambo. When Dambo was seven years old, he bought a mountain of cushions (垫子) from a nearby market to build a game room in his parents’ house. As a teenager, he built a “crazy” castle in his backyard.
Years later, 42-year-old Dambo is proudly showing his latest work: a giant (巨人) called Little Lui. Five meters tall, Little Lui is one of the six giants placed in the corners of Peel Region of Western Australia, which will be on show for at least a year. This work makes Dambo’s giants up to 99 around the world. His gentle giants have found homes in many different countries, as far as the United States, Belgium, China, Denmark, South Korea and now in Australia.
“For me, giants represent (代表) the voice of nature,” Dambo says. This deep respect for nature is the focus of Dambo’s building works. Dambo’s giants are made almost from local recycled wood: their faces from second-hand furniture and their hair from tree branches and leaves. Taking about 750 hours to complete, each giant is built out in nature.
“I hope by visiting the giants, people will think of rubbish as a resource. I think it’s really important that next generations are connected to nature,” Dambo says. “That’s why I tried to build the giants to attract young people. I want people to be inspired and to realize they don’t need a lot to create something big and beautiful.”
4. Which of the following can best describe young Dambo?
A. Creative. B. Homesick. C. Powerful. D. Frightened.
5. What can we know about Little Lui?
A. It is kept underground. B. It’s Dambo’s first giant.
C. It will be shown to the public. D. It will be sent to Denmark.
6. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

C. The basic theme of the giants. D. The expensive materials of the giants.
7. What does Dambo plan to do with his giants?

Most people follow others blindly mainly under the effect of peer(同龄人) pressure. Some people also feel it safe to follow a large number of people. In some rare cases it might be right to follow the crowd(群众), but in most cases this can be one big mistake. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn’t follow the crowd blindly.
According to a study people tend to follow the crowd when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what’s right and what’s wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it isn’t right.
A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others’ guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asks himself is:are all of those people successful?Of course not!If you want to follow a crowd, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you’ll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that’s why following the crowd makes no sense at all.
Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they’re greater than you in number, then sooner or later you’ll discover that you’re making decisions you might regret later.
However, should we never follow the crowd? No. I’m not trying to say you should never follow the crowd, but instead I’m just asking you to think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts about the direction they’re moving in, don’t follow them blindly.
8. According to the text, most people follow others blindly mainly because .
A. they are affected by their peers B. they don’t believe in themselves
C. they feel it safe to stay with others D. they are weaker than other people
9. What can we learn from Paragraph 4?
A. It needs some time to think wisely.
B. We shouldn’t regret what we have done.
C. We should think wisely before deciding to follow others.
D. Making others follow us is better than following others.
10. Which of the following will the author agree with?
A. It is wrong to follow other people.
B. Those who follow others won’t succeed.
C. Only those foolish people will follow others.
D. One should use his head before following others.
11. What is the text mainly about?
A. Effects of following others.
B. Benefits of making wise decisions.
C. Reasons why most people follow others.
D. Reasons why people shouldn’t follow others blindly.
D
China has become the world’s largest producer and market of EVs (电动汽车). According to a report, 9.58 million Chinese-made EVs were produced and 9.49 million were sold in 2023. Among the total sales, 1.2 million EVs were exported (出口).
The Chinese government has been encouraging EVs as part of its effort for green, high-quality development. As a result, China’s EV industry develops very quickly. At Auto (汽车) China 2004, BYD was the only company showing EVs there. At Auto China 2024, there were 278 different EV models on show, including BYD, SAIC, Geely, Li Auto, Nio, Xpeng and other brands (品牌).
China’s EV industry is now facing both challenges and chances. It’s reported that 71% of EV brands cut prices in 2023. EV makers without the ability of innovation (创新) will face growing risks. In order to be both green and smart, Chinese EV makers are trying hard to improve technologies like battery quality and AI support. At the same time, the government is adding even more charging points (充电站). On the other hand, more Chinese people are aware of the environmental problems. It is encouraging more buyers to choose EVs.
EVs are the way of the future. In an ideal world, everyone benefits from innovation and green transport. Some might get there sooner than others, and will gain greater rewards. It is very likely that China will hold the lead.
12. How many Chinese-made EVs were sold in China in 2023?
A. 8.38 million. B. 9.49 million. C. 9.58 million. D. 8.29 million.
13. What is the purpose of Paragraph 2?
A. To introduce different EV brands in China.
B. To give some information about Auto China.
C. To show the development of China’s EV industry.
D. To advise people to buy Chinese-made EVs.
14. EV makers can most probably reduce growing risks by ________.
A. improving innovation ability B. winning the government’s support
C. adding more charging points D. dealing with environmental problems
15. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the future of China’s EV industry?
A. Uncertain. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.

According to a study, people tend to follow the crowd when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take.
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. D 11. D
【解析】

【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段Most people act without thinking wisely. 【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中I’m not trying to say you should never follow the crowd, but instead I’m just asking you to think wisely before you make a decision.可知我不是说你永远不要随大流,我只是要求你在做决定前好好考虑一下。由此可推知,D选项“一个人在跟风别人之前,应该先独立思考一下”符合作者的观点。故选D。
