Passage 1
You may have noticed many people wearing a square or round device on their upper arms this summer. This small device is called continuous glucose monitor (CGM), intended to help people with diabetes (糖尿病) keep track of and control their blood sugar levels. CGMs used to be available only on prescription (处方). 1 They can monitor blood sugar levels by wearing one.
CGMs have tiny sensors that are placed just under the skin. These sensors constantly monitor wearers’ blood sugar level. 2 Some of the monitors are even connected to insulin pumps (胰岛素泵) that do the work automatically.
Putting CGMs available on the market is a new thing. 3 But there’s hope that the monitors will be beneficial for nondiabetics as well, including people taking medications that can raise blood sugar. Besides, many healthy people also want to check their blood sugar the way they check their blood pressure. 4 While there is only one type of monitor on the market now, surely others will follow.
However, there’s no evidence that healthy people can make the best use of CGM for peak health. Since normal blood sugar changes during the day, someone could misread a temporarily low or high reading as dangerous. 5
A.The result is sent to a user’s smartphone.
B.So there’s little data to confirm the benefits.
C.At present, people can buy CGMs in any drug store.
D.With CGMs, patients can examine blood sugar levels by themselves.
E.Many companies have motivation to promote CGMs to these people.
F.Doctors have long felt healthy people could also benefit from CGMs.
G.It’s better to interpret the monitor’s information under the guidance of a doctor.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.E 5.G
1.上文“This small device is called continuous glucose monitor (CGM), intended to help people with diabetes (糖尿病)keep track of and control their blood sugar levels. CGMs used to be available only on prescription (处方).(这种小型设备被称为连续血糖监测仪(CGM),旨在帮助糖尿病患者跟踪和控制血糖水平。)”提到连续血糖监测仪以前只能凭处方购买,C项(目前,人们可以在任何药店买到CGM。)进一步论述,说明现在人们可以在任何药店购买CGM,并且C项中的At present与上文的used to be形成对比。故选C。
2.上文“CGMs have tiny sensors that are placed just under the skin. These sensors constantly monitor wearers’ blood sugar level.(CGMs具有放置在皮肤下的微小传感器。这些传感器持续监测佩戴者的血糖水平。)”提到CGM的传感器不断监测佩戴者的血糖水平,A项(结果会发送到用户的智能手机上)进一步解释CGM监测到的血糖结果会直接发送到用户的智能手机上,语义衔接紧密,且C项中的The result指代上文提到的血糖水平监测结果。故选A。
3.上文“Putting CGMs available on the market is a new thing.(将CGM推向市场是一件新鲜事。)”
4.上文“Besides, many healthy people also want to check their blood sugar the way they check their blood pressure.(此外,许多健康的人也想像检查血压一样检查血糖。)”
5.上文“Since normal blood sugar changes during the day, someone could misread a temporarily low or high reading as dangerous.(由于白天血糖正常变化,有人可能会将暂时的低或高读数误读为危险。)”
Passage 1
Building habits of group vulnerability(脆弱)is like building a muscle. It takes time repetition, and the willingness to feel pain in order to achieve gains. 1 With that in mind, here are a few workout ideas, for both individuals and groups.
Make sure the leader is vulnerable first and often: As we’ve seen, group cooperation is created by small, frequently repeated moments of vulnerability. 2
I saw a vivid example when I watched Danny Meyer run one of his morning meetings with his staff, Meyer is the founder of Union Square Cafe, Shake Shack, Gramercy Tavern, and a number of other restaurants that together are worth more than a billion dollars. 3 The staff meeting began with the group watching a video of Meyer's speech. Then the lights went up and Meyer spoke.
“Can you see my leg shaking?” he asked the group.” 4 I’ve given a lot of speeches, but the TED people wanted something more, something deeper and thoughtful. So I slept about three hours the night before, which is why I have those bags under my eyes. We had a terrible rehearsal (排练), and I kept messing up the PowerPoint. So it was almost a complete terrible show. Except that I’m lucky enough to have some absolutely brilliant help.” He paused and pointed. “Thanks, Chip and Haley. They made the whole thing work. They wrote great stuff, gave me great advice, and kept me together,” Everyone looked at Chip and Haley and gave a short round of applause while Meyer looked on approvingly.
Meyer delivered the message that he was scared with steadiness, confidence, and comfort that underlined the deeper message: It’s safe to tell the truth here. 5
A.I was so nervous shaking like a leaf.
B.His vulnerability isn’t weakness; it’s his strength.
C.Danny Meyer is a restaurant founder from St. Louis, Missouri.
D.The night before my visit, he had delivered his first-ever TED Talk.
E.And as with building muscle, the first key is to approach the process with a plan.
F.Gentle pressure is my preferred technique for leadership, guidance, and coaching.
G.Of these, none carries more power than the moment when a leader signals vulnerability.
【答案】1.E 2.G 3.D 4.A 5.B
1.根据上文“Building habits of group vulnerability is like building a muscle. It takes time, repetition, and the willingness to feel pain in order to achieve gains(培养团队示弱的习惯就像锻炼肌肉。这需要时间、重复练习,以及为了取得进步而愿意承受痛苦的意愿)”以及下文“With that in mind, here are a few workout ideas, for both individuals and groups.(考虑到这一点,这里有一些针对个人和团队的 “锻炼” 想法)” 可知,此处需要一个过渡句,将培养团队示弱习惯与锻炼肌肉进行类比,并引出下文关于培养习惯的具体方法。E选项“And as with building muscle, the first key is to approach the process with a plan(就像锻炼肌肉一样,第一个关键是要有一个计划来进行这个过程)”符合语境,既提到了与锻炼肌肉的相似之处,又指出了要有计划,与下文的“锻炼”想法相呼应,故选E项。
2.根据上文“Make sure the leader is vulnerable first and often: As we’ve seen, group cooperation is created by small, frequently repeated moments of vulnerability(确保领导者首先且经常示弱:正如我们所看到的,团队合作是由小的、频繁重复的示弱时刻创造的)”可知,此处强调领导者示弱对团队合作的重要性。G选项“Of these, none carries more power than the moment when a leader signals vulnerability.(在这些因素中,没有什么比领导者表现出示弱的时刻更有力量了)”进一步强调了领导者示弱的重要性,与上文衔接紧密,故选G项。
3.根据上文“I saw a vivid example when I watched Danny Meyer run one of his morning meetings with his staff, Meyer is the founder of Union Square Cafe, Shake Shack, Gramercy Tavern, and a number of other restaurants that together are worth more than a billion dollars.(当我看到丹尼・迈耶与他的员工举行一次早会时,我看到了一个生动的例子。迈耶是联合广场咖啡馆、奶昔小站、格拉梅西酒馆以及其他一些餐厅的创始人,这些餐厅加起来价值超过十亿美元)”以及下文“The staff meeting began with the group watching a video of Meyer's speech.(员工会议以团队观看迈耶的演讲视频开始)”可知,此处需要一个句子来引出迈耶演讲的相关内容。D选项“The night before my visit, he had delivered his first-ever TED Talk(在我访问的前一天晚上,他发表了他的第一次TED演讲)”符合语境,介绍了迈耶在会议前一晚进行了TED演讲,与下文观看演讲视频相呼应,故选D项。
4.根据上文“Can you see my leg shaking?(你能看到我的腿在颤抖吗?)” A选项“I was so nervouss shaking like a leaf.(我非常紧张,像树叶一样颤抖)”进一步说明了他的紧张程度,与上文的“腿在颤抖”相呼应,故选A项。
5.根据上文 “Meyer delivered the message that he was scared with steadiness, confidence, and comfort that underlined the deeper message: It’s safe to tell the truth here(迈耶以坚定、自信和舒适的态度传达了他害怕的信息,这强调了一个更深层次的信息:在这里说实话是安全的)”可知,迈耶通过示弱传达了积极的信息。B选项“His vulnerability isn’t weakness; it’s his strength(他的示弱不是弱点,而是他的优势)”对迈耶的示弱进行了总结,说明示弱对他来说是一种优势,符合语境,故选B项。
Passage 2
We’ve all been there before — you’re in conversation, things are getting along nicely. 6 At that moment, your mind goes completely blank, you don’t know what to say, and you can sense the other person’s eyes wandering as they look for someone else to talk to. That scenario (场面) is terrible, so here are three tips to make sure that you never run out of things to say in conversation again.
Firstly, when you find yourself in that situation where your mind has gone blank, play “Reminds Me of”. That just means that you look to the environment around you and say, “You know, that reminds me of…” and then fill in the blank. 7 And it can also work as a follow-up when someone finishes telling a story, which is how many groups of friends interact all the time.
Second, when you ask questions, keep them open-ended as often as possible. 8 So rather than saying, “Oh, you’re from Toronto. Do you like it there?” you might say, “How do you like Toronto? I’m curious to hear more about it.” You should get the other person talking about the things that they like, which is going to open up more conversational topics.
9 This is the third tip. If you’re in a new group and conversation dies after initial pleasantries, a great question is, “How do you guys all know one another?” There’s almost always some kind of story that conversation can build from. If you’re only speaking to one person, you can say instead, “So what’s your story?” The great thing about this question is that it is so open-ended that the other person will probably guide you towards new topics, usually responding with something like, “You mean what do I do for work or what do I like to do for fun?” 10
A.It’s great for opening new conversational topics.
B.Then out of nowhere, the awkward silence occurs.
C.So, ask them about their exciting plans for the future.
D.You’d better avoid questions inviting a one-word response.
E.That’s because people don’t like to talk to others different from themselves.
F.For the worst scenario when conversation stops suddenly, use saving questions.
G.His or her tone and enthusiasm will tell you the best angle of conversation to continue with.
【答案】6.B 7.A 8.D 9.F 10.G
6.前文“We’ve all been there before — you’re in conversation, things are getting along nicely. (我们以前都有过这样的经历——你在交谈,事情进展得很顺利)”引出交谈中事情进展顺利的情境,后文“At that moment, your mind goes completely blank, you don’t know what to say, and you can sense the other person’s eyes wandering as they look for someone else to talk to. (在那一刻,你的大脑一片空白,你不知道该说什么,你可以感觉到对方的眼睛在四处游荡,因为他们在寻找可以说话的人)”具体描述大脑陷入空白,对方想和其他人交谈的尴尬情况,空处应该是表达突然陷入一种糟糕的情况,因此B项“Then out of nowhere, the awkward silence occurs. (然后不知怎么的,尴尬的沉默出现了)”符合语境,承前启后。故选B。
7.前文“That just means that you look to the environment around you and say, “You know, that reminds me of…” and then fill in the blank. (这意味着你看看你周围的环境,然后说,“你知道,这让我想起了……”,然后填补空白)”介绍了“这让我想起了”方法,后文“And it can also work as a follow-up when someone finishes telling a story, which is how many groups of friends interact all the time. (当某人讲完一个故事时,它也可以作为后续跟进,这是很多朋友群体一直在互动的方式)”提到这种方法进一步的用处,空处应该是指出这种方法的第一个作用,因此A项“It’s great for opening new conversational topics. (这是开启新的谈话话题的好方法)”符合语境,承接前文,后文是对其递进,其中的It指代前文描述的方法。故选A。
8.前文“Second, when you ask questions, keep them open-ended as often as possible. (第二,当你问问题的时候,尽可能让它们是开放式的)”建议多问开放式的问题,后文“So rather than saying, “Oh, you’re from Toronto. Do you like it there?” you might say, “How do you like Toronto? I’m curious to hear more about it.” (所以不要说,“哦,你来自多伦多。你喜欢那里吗?”你可能会说:“你觉得多伦多怎么样?”我很想了解更多。”)”举出具体的例子说明应用开放式问题代替非开放式问题,空处应该点明避免非开放式问题,因此D项“You’d better avoid questions inviting a one-word response. (你最好避免一个词就能回答的问题)”符合语境,承接前文,后文是对其例证。故选D。
9.后文“If you’re in a new group and conversation dies after initial pleasantries, a great question is, “How do you guys all know one another?” There’s almost always some kind of story that conversation can build from. If you’re only speaking to one person, you can say instead, “So what’s your story?” (如果你在一个新群体里,在最初的寒暄之后,谈话就结束了,一个很好的问题是,“你们是怎么认识彼此的?”几乎总有一些故事可以作为对话的基础。如果你只和一个人说话,你可以说,“那么你的故事是什么?”)”具体介绍了谈话陷入僵局时可以使用的通用式的提问,空处位于段首,是段落主旨句,应该是总地建议用一个通用式的提问,因此F项“For the worst scenario when conversation stops suddenly, use saving questions. (对于最糟糕的情况,当谈话突然停止时,使用保留问题)”符合语境,契合后文内容,是后一句中This指代的对象。故选F。
10.前文“If you’re only speaking to one person, you can say instead, “So what’s your story?” The great thing about this question is that it is so open-ended that the other person will probably guide you towards new topics, usually responding with something like, “You mean what do I do for work or what do I like to do for fun?” (如果你只和一个人说话,你可以说,“那么你的故事是什么?”这个问题的好处是,它是开放式的,对方可能会引导你谈论新的话题,通常会这样回答:“你的意思是我做什么工作,或者我喜欢做什么娱乐?”)”提到和一个人说话时可以使用的通用式的提问,并指出这种提问的好处,空处是段末句,应该是继续说明这种提问的好处,因此G项“His or her tone and enthusiasm will tell you the best angle of conversation to continue with. (他或她的语气和热情会告诉你继续谈话的最佳角度)”符合语境,承接前文。故选G。
Passage 3
With everything going on in the world, it’s no wonder so many of us are struggling to sleep. 11 And it’s hard to fall back asleep again. However, simple steps before bed can help.
Test your pillow. If you bought your pillow in 2022, it’s already old. The National Sleep Foundation suggests replacing your pillow every one to two years. 12 “When your brain is sending pain signals, it can’t send sleep signals,” says Dr Michael J Breus, a clinical psychologist and sleep specialist.
Get an hour of sunlight each day. Morning sunlight is important for good sleep. “It stops producing melatonin in your brain, which, helps relieve the sleepy morning feeling,” Breus says. It also sets a mental time r to produce melatonin, the so-called sleep hormone, that evening. Aim for 15 to 30 minutes of direct light first and two 15-minute outdoor breaks during the day. 13
Skip salty snacks before bed. In a Japanese study, researchers followed 321 patients with high-salt diets and sleep issues for 12 weeks. 14 And those who consumed more salt woke up more often to go to the bathroom.
15 If you need to air complaints to your family, don’t wait until night. Tough discussions are less likely to disturb your sound sleep if you initiate them earlier. Arguments can activate your sympathetic nervous system, which disturbs sleep. Some research even suggests that going to bed angry may make you bad-tempered the next morning.
A.Avoid arguments with your family.
B.Handle your troubles before dinner.
C.It signals your brain that it is time to be awake.
D.It contributes to good health when exposed to light.
E.It’s normal to wake up at night, especially as you age.
F.A used one in the past can cause neck pain and restless sleep.
G.When people cut them down, their average toilet trips decreased.
11.根据上文“With everything going on in the world, it’s no wonder so many of us are struggling to sleep.(随着世界上发生的一切,难怪我们中的许多人都在努力入睡)”描述了现代社会普遍存在睡眠质量问题,后文“And it’s hard to fall back asleep again.(而且很难再次入睡)”描述很难再次入睡,可知本句主要说明夜晚入睡的问题,故E选项“随着年龄增长,半夜醒来很正常”,在此处能起到承上启下的作用。故选E。
12.根据上文“The National Sleep Foundation suggests replacing your pillow every one to two years.(美国国家睡眠基金会建议每一到两年更换一次枕头)”提到需要每 1-2 年更换枕头,下文““When your brain is sending pain signals, it can’t send sleep signals,” says Dr Michael J Breus, a clinical psychologist and sleep specialist.(“当你的大脑发出疼痛信号时,它不能发出睡眠信号,”临床心理学家和睡眠专家Michael J Breus博士说)”继续谈论疼痛带来的影响。
13.根据本段首句“Get an hour of sunlight each day.(每天享受一小时的阳光)”可知,本段建议要接受足够的阳光。
14.根据上文“Skip salty snacks before bed. In a Japanese study, researchers followed 321 patients with high-salt diets and sleep issues for 12 weeks.(睡前不要吃咸的零食。在日本的一项研究中,研究人员对321名患有高盐饮食和睡眠问题的患者进行了为期12周的跟踪调查)”以及后文“And those who consumed more salt woke up more often to go to the bathroom.(而那些摄入更多盐的人更频繁地醒来去洗手间)”可知,指出减少高盐饮食后,起夜次数会减少,与下文 “摄入高盐的更频繁去卫生间”的论述相呼应。G选项“当人们减少摄入时,他们的平均上厕所次数减少了”符合语境,故选G。
15.根据后文“If you need to air complaints to your family, don’t wait until night. Tough discussions are less likely to disturb your sound sleep if you initiate them earlier. Arguments can activate your sympathetic nervous system, which disturbs sleep. Some research even suggests that going to bed angry may make you bad-tempered the next morning.(如果你需要向你的家人抱怨,不要等到晚上。如果你早点开始,艰难的讨论就不太可能打扰你的睡眠。争吵会激活你的交感神经系统,从而扰乱睡眠。一些研究甚至表明,带着怒气上床睡觉可能会让你第二天早上脾气暴躁)”可知,如果需要向家人抱怨,不要拖到晚上。睡前的争论对睡眠有影响,甚至影响第二天的心情。故B选项“本段的建议应该是在晚饭前处理好麻烦”符合语境。故选B。
Passage 4
How to handle criticism in a healthy way
Criticism is a universal experience that can trigger (引发) feelings such as anger, shame, or fear. While criticism can be taken as hurtful, it can also be viewed in a positive way. 16 Keeping a healthy attitude will not only help you not get depressed by criticism, but it can also help you move forward in life. Here’s how you should seek to handle constructive criticism and how you can use it to your advantage.
Stop your first reaction. Feeling “attacked” may trigger a fight-flight-or-freeze response. Take a breath and cool off to allow logic to step in. Having a stock comment in your pocket, such as, “That’s an interesting viewpoint,” can lessen the initial emotional impact. If you have received heavy criticism, then feel free to ask for more time to process it. 17
Embrace it as a learning opportunity. We all make mistakes. As we go through life, we have plenty of opportunities to learn and improve. However, accepting criticism positively does not mean shutting yourself off emotionally. 18 Accept the fact that the other person’s comments may have hurt you. Once you have acknowledged it, you can allow yourself to use their words toward the process of self-improvement.
19 If criticism is feedback, it’s important to understand what that feedback actually is. What is the true intention of the criticism? For instance, if your boss is giving you feed back on a mistake you made, he’s probably trying to convey how you can fix and avoid the mistake in the future. Try to understand what your critic is saying and seek clarification if you need to.
Thank those offering the criticism. Sometimes they’re coming from a place of wanting to help you. That takes courage, and is a very generous thing. Even when they’re not trying to be helpful, they’ve taken the time to respond to you. 20 Causing a reaction means you’ve done something interesting — and for that, you should be thankful.
A.Respond calmly.
B.Practice active listening.
C.It is quite normal to feel hurt.
D.It can be an opportunity to improve.
E.Getting a response is better than absolute silence.
F.This is a good time to clarify any misunderstandings.
G.This is better than responding in the heat of the moment.
16.根据上文“While criticism can be taken as hurtful, it can also be viewed in a positive way.(虽然批评可以被视为伤害,但也可以以积极的方式看待)”可知,批评虽然可能被认为是有害的,但也可以从积极的方面来看待。D选项It can be an opportunity to improve.(它可以是一个提升的机会)进一步阐述了批评的积极作用,与上文衔接紧密。故选D项。
17.根据上文“Stop your first reaction. Feeling “attacked” may trigger a fight-flight-or-freeze response. Take a breath and cool off to allow logic to step in.(不要做出第一反应。感觉“受到攻击”可能会引发“战斗-逃跑-冻结”反应。深呼吸,冷静下来,让逻辑介入)”以及 “If you have received heavy criticism, then feel free to ask for more time to process it.( 如果你受到了严厉的批评,那么你可以要求更多的时间来处理它)”可知,这里强调要控制第一反应,不要在情绪激动时回应。G选项This is better than responding in the heat of the moment.(这比在一时冲动时回应要好)承接上文内容,为对上文内容的语意递进,符合语境。故选G项。
18.根据上文“However, accepting criticism positively does not mean shutting yourself off emotionally.(然而,积极地接受批评并不意味着把自己封闭起来)”可知,积极接受批评并不意味着在情感上封闭自己。C选项It is quite normal to feel hurt.(感到受伤是很正常的)承接上文,说明即使要积极接受批评,感到受伤也是正常的。故选C项。
19.根据下文“If criticism is feedback, it’s important to understand what that feedback actually is. What is the true intention of the criticism? For instance, if your boss is giving you feed back on a mistake you made, he’s probably trying to convey how you can fix and avoid the mistake in the future. Try to understand what your critic is saying and seek clarification if you need to.(如果批评是一种反馈,那么了解反馈到底是什么是很重要的。批评的真正意图是什么?例如,如果你的老板在你所犯的错误上给你反馈,他可能是在试图传达你如何在未来纠正和避免错误。试着理解你的批评者在说什么,如果需要的话寻求澄清)”可知,这一段主要讲要理解批评的真正意图,也就是要积极倾听。B选项Practice active listening.(练习积极倾听)符合段落主旨,适合作为该段的小标题。故选B项。
20.根据上文“Thank those offering the criticism. Sometimes they’re coming from a place of wanting to help you. That takes courage, and is a very generous thing. Even when they’re not trying to be helpful, they’ve taken the time to respond to you.(感谢那些提出批评的人。有时他们是出于想要帮助你的目的。这需要勇气,是一件非常慷慨的事情。即使他们不想帮忙,他们也会花时间回应你)”以及下文“Causing a reaction means you’ve done something interesting — and for that, you should be thankful.(引起反应意味着你做了一些有趣的事情——为此,你应该心存感激)”可知,这里强调要感谢批评者,因为得到回应总比绝对的沉默要好。E选项Getting a response is better than absolute silence.(得到回应比绝对的沉默要好)起承上启下作用,符合语境。故选E项。

D.All these exams are like crucial battlegrounds for their academic progress
E.What requires their focus is the practical skills and theoretical knowledge
F.By no means should they be overwhelmed by stress and anxiety
G.A large amount of time should be devoted to key subjects
【答案】21.D 22.E 23.F 24.B 25.A
21.前文“With the semester approaching its end, sophomores (高二学生) are faced with three significant exams. These include the information technology high school academic proficiency test, the general high school academic proficiency qualification test, and the final joint examination of key high schools in Yancheng. (随着学期的临近,高二学生面临着三场重要的考试。其中包括信息技术高中学业水平考试、普通高中学业水平资格考试、盐城重点高中期末联考)”指出高二学生面临着三场重要的考试,因此D项“All these exams are like crucial battlegrounds for their academic progress (所有这些考试都像是他们学业进步的关键战场)”符合语境,点明这些考试的重要性,承接前文,其中的All these exams指代前文提到的三场考试。故选D。

Passage 1
Many scientists and marine biologists are quite worried about the state of coral reefs around the globe. They have been experiencing “bleaching” (白化) which is a process that involves the slow starvation and eventual death of coral reefs. 1 This has huge effects on the organisms that rely on the coral reefs in the ocean and us humans.
2 In the Turks and Caicos Islands, it has been reported that the coral reefs have been relatively untouched by the bleaching events. Even more surprising is the news that even the ones affected have recovered very well.
The problem is caused by many reasons. Pollution, introduced species, over-fishing, and over-tourism have all contributed to the issue. 3 Since the 1970’s, about 80% of the coral reefs in the Caribbean have died out.
An organization has taken steps to help out. They asked divers to observe over 100 reef sites off the South Caicos Island and set up a database. After scanning the data, they found surprising results. 4 But other corals did suffer bleaching. But they quickly rebounded to normal within months of the irregularly high thermal stress (热应力).
Two years later, when the same corals were observed, they were even more colored. 5 There were theories that Hurricanes Irma and Maria helped, as they resulted in much less tourism and thus decreased damage to the surrounding ecosystems.
Experts are continuing to observe the phenomenon to see if there is anything going on that can help save other reefs.
A.It meant their health improved.
B.So they are dying out at alarming rates.
C.Many coral reefs can survive bleaching.
D.Some corals proved no significant bleaching.
E.The worst of bleaching events took place in 2017.
F.But the coral reefs are doing surprisingly well in one region.
G.The warming temperatures of the oceans have also caused great harm.

Giving Old Buildings a New Life
Walking through cities, we often see old buildings standing quietly. Sadly, many are forgotten, falling apart, and their stories fading away. 1
Fortunately, Chinese cities are finding creative ways to revive them. Instead of turning them into untouched museum pieces, these buildings are being transformed into lively spaces like cafes, bookstores, or galleries. 2
Some worry that changing a building’s use might harm it. 3 Take “Xianlang” cafe in Beijing as an example. It occupies a century-old site, the former Sino-French University. The cafe preserves the original exterior, including wooden carvings and windows. Inside, it uses colors inspired by French artist Henri Matisse, creating a space where visitors enjoy coffee while experiencing the cultural link between China and France. It’s more than a cafe; it’s a storyteller.
4 Bagong’s House in Wuhan, a red-brick building from the early 1900s once used by Russian tea merchants, is now a high-end hotel preserving its facade. Inside, digital exhibitions showcase the ancient tea road history it witnessed. It also hosts talks and art shows, actively sharing its past with the public.
Bringing old buildings back to life takes creativity and a strong sense of responsibility. 5 Every time an old building is brought back to life, a piece of cultural memory is saved, and part of the city’s story continues.
A.These cultural treasures may disappear forever otherwise.
B.Digital tech and cultural events also breathe new life into old structures.
C.Therefore, protecting them requires government funding and public support.
D.Such neglect reflects a common challenge in urban development worldwide.
E.We need to find a balance between respecting the past and adding new ideas.
F.This creative reuse gives old structures new purposes while keeping their souls.
G.However, sensitive restoration that respects history allows for functional change.

The Impact of Technology on Modern Education
Technology is developing fast these years and changing our lives a lot, especially in education. For hundreds of years, traditional classroom settings have been the basic part of education. 1
Firstly, the use of digital devices such as tablets and laptops in the classroom has made it easier for students to access a vast amount of information instantly. 2 Instead of relying solely on textbooks, students can now explore a wide range of resources, including online articles and videos. This not only enriches their knowledge but also helps them develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Moreover, online learning platforms have revolutionized the way students learn and interact with their teachers and peers. 3 Nowadays students can attend virtual classes, submit assignments, and receive feedback from their teachers at any time and from anywhere. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for students who have busy schedules or live in remote areas, as it allows them to continue their education without being physically present in a classroom.
4 One of the main concerns is the digital divide, which refers to the gap between those who have access to digital technology and those who do not. Many students from low-income families. may not have access to computers or the internet at home. This can result in unequal educational opportunities, as students without access to the necessary technology may fall behind their peers.
Additionally, there is a risk that students may become overly dependent on technology, which could affect their ability to think independently and solve problems without relying on digital tools. 5 Teachers need to strike a balance between using technology to enhance learning and encouraging students to develop their own cognitive abilities.
A.But now, digital tools and online platforms are changing them.
B.Students may also become distracted by the numerous digital devices.
C.Technology allows educators to meet the unique needs of each student.

Passage 1
In today’s rapidly changing world, environmental protection has become a topic of great concern for people all over the globe. From the smallest individual actions to large-scale international policies, every effort counts in the fight to preserve our planet. Here are some important aspects and ways to contribute to environmental conservation.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
One of the most fundamental principles of environmental protection is the “3R” concept. 1 By reducing the amount of waste we generate, we can significantly decrease the pressure on landfills and natural resources. For example, choosing to buy products with minimal packaging can cut down on the amount of waste materials. Reusing items is another great way to save resources. Instead of throwing away old clothes, books, or furniture, you can donate them or find creative ways to repurpose them. 2 Recycling is equally important. Many materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal can be recycled into new products, reducing the need for raw material extraction.
Energy Conservation
Energy consumption is a major contributor to environmental problems, especially climate change. 3 At home, you can start by switching to energy-efficient light bulbs, unplugging electronic devices when they are not in use, and adjusting the thermostat to a more energy-saving setting. In the workplace, encouraging the use of natural light and proper insulation can also make a big difference. Additionally, consider using public transportation, carpooling, cycling, or walking instead of driving alone. This not only reduces your carbon footprint but also helps to ease traffic congestion.
Protecting Biodiversity
Biodiversity is essential for the stability and health of our ecosystems. 4 When we destroy habitats, many species are at risk of extinction, which can have far-reaching consequences for the entire planet. To protect biodiversity, we can support conservation organizations that work to preserve natural habitats and endangered species. Planting native trees and plants in our gardens can also provide a habitat for local wildlife. Avoiding the use of pesticides and herbicides in our gardens helps to protect beneficial insects and other small animals.
Educating Others
Education plays a crucial role in environmental protection. 5 By raising awareness about environmental issues, we can inspire more people to take action. You can start by educating your family and friends about simple ways to be more environmentally friendly. Schools and communities can also organize environmental education programs to teach students and residents about the importance of protecting the environment and the actions they can take.
A.This concept helps us to make better use of resources and minimize waste.
B.We should try to conserve energy in our daily lives as much as possible.
C.Many species are facing extinction due to human activities.
D.People need to understand the impact of their actions on the environment.

Do you want to improve your savings in 2025? If so, the 52-week money challenge is a simple and effective way to stay on track. 1 And all you need is $1 to start.
What is the 52-week money challenge? Using the 52-week money challenge, you should deposit (存入) an increasing amount of money into your savings each week for one year. 2 In other words, you’ll save $1 the first week, $2 the second week, $3 the third week, and so on until you put away $52 in week 52. Those numbers are guidelines, but you can get creative with the amount you save each week if you’d like to save more over the year or you don’t have enough extra cash available for the regular challenge.
3 A simple piggy bank (存钱罐) may work for you, but not everyone has cash on hand to deposit each week. Plus, having your savings in such an accessible place may tempt you to dip into it before the end of the challenge. 4 Then move your challenge money into it each week, which can prevent impulse (冲动) spending and help you accumulate a bit more over the course of the year through interest earnings.
If you really want to make things easy, consider automatic savings features. 5 You can set up automatic transfers of a certain amount of money into your new savings account. If you never see it, you won’t have the chance to miss the cash before it goes into savings.
Keep up, and by this time next year, you’ll build up your savings.
A.Thus, start with a small, manageable amount.
B.To get started, first find somewhere to store your savings.

Passage 2
Tennis is an incredibly mental sport. 6 But it is also an incredibly difficult sport to play well.
It is very easy to self-destruct (自我毁灭) when playing tennis if you let your expectations and ego get the better of you. So, simply playing the ball that is in front of you is the simplest way to approach the game, along with taking each point at a time.
That being said, it is much easier said than done. 7 Even if it is as simple as playing to your opponent’s backhand as much as possible, or aiming to hit as many cross court (对角线球) balls as you can, it is important to have a plan of attack if you want to be successful on the court.
8 You may have the best plan in the world, but if you aren’t performing well enough to execute it or your opponent cottons on (领悟) what you’re trying to do, you’ll need to adapt, improvise and overcome. Adapting to new conditions, court surfaces, balls and playing styles is all part of becoming a better tennis player!
9 This means you need to be incredibly resilient (坚韧的) to play good tennis and overcome hardship. Don’t be too much bothered by some points you lose. Just learn from your mistakes but not let them get you down.
Tennis is also about playing the big points well and understanding that not all points hold the same weight across the course of a match. Putting disappointment behind you and trying to play the next point with a positive attitude can be very difficult to do. 10
A.However, being flexible is also important.
B.You will always have to have some form of strategy.
C.However, it is a key part of becoming a better tennis player.
D.It can bring with it a whole host of physical and mental benefits.
E.Every backhand shot you hit is what you throw at your opponent.
F.Perhaps the most obvious benefits tennis offers are the physical ones.
G.The scoring system in tennis means you can win more points and still lose a match!
【答案】6.D 7.B 8.A 9.G 10.C

10.根据上文“Putting disappointment behind you and trying to play the next point with a positive attitude can be very difficult to do.”(把失望抛在脑后,努力以积极的态度打下一分,这是很难做到的。) However, it is a key part of becoming a better tennis player.(然而,这是成为一个更好的网球运动员的关键部分。)
Passage 3
Building Up Your Empathy
Empathy is the ability to understand and emotionally engage with others. It is viewed as the fundamental social glue and main psychological mechanism, which enables us to relate to each other, maintain social relations and create a more sympathetic world. 11 . It is a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time. Here are some tips on how to build up your empathy.
Practice active listening
Listening is one of the most effective ways you can demonstrate empathy to other people. Active listening requires three things. To begin with, paraphrase what the person said to show that you understood the content. 12 , because it helps the person better understand and regulate their own emotions. Finally, indicate how your response makes you want to behave, because again you are demonstrating that you understand their emotional state and helping them figure out a behavior to move forward with.
Challenge your prejudices and assumptions
Ask yourself why you think that all poor people are lazy, or all people with mental health issues are dangerous. A lot of assumptions and prejudices are based on misinformation that has become widespread. 13 .
Treat people as being important
Recognize that you aren’t the only one living in this world and that you aren’t some superior being. 14 . Don’t lump (合并) them into stereotypical (刻板印象的) groups with erroneous one-size-fits-all labels. Each person is an individual and comes with a set of flaws and strengths.

This means getting a direct experience of another person’s life, the “walk a mile in another person’s shoes” proverb. You don’t have to go quite that far, but consider taking on all the things that your mother does in a day for an entire week. You’ll discover how difficult it is to manage both the home and work, and you’ll have a better appreciation for how much work she has to do. You may even decide to pitch in a bit more.
In conclusion, building up your empathy takes time and effort, but it is worth it. So start practicing today and make a positive impact on the world around you.
A.Practice experiential empathy
B.Leave each person as they are
C.Practice gratitude and appreciation
D.Take each person as they come
E.Reflect on your emotional reaction as well
F.However, empathy is not something we are born with
G.Educate yourself and listen to the groups that are affected by this misinformation
【答案】11.F 12.E 13.G 14.D 15.A
11.根据下文“It is a skill that can be developed and strengthened over time.( 这是一种可以随着时间的推移而发展和加强的技能。)”可推理出上文说的是同理心不是天生的,与F项“However, empathy is not something we are born with(然而,同理心不是我们天生的)”表达的含义一致,故选F项。
12.根据下文“because it helps the person better understand and regulate their own emotions.( 因为它有助于人们更好地理解和调节自己的情绪。)”
13.根据本段小标题“Challenge your prejudices and assumptions(挑战你的偏见和假设)”以及空白处上文“Ask yourself why you think that all poor people are lazy, or all people with mental health issues are dangerous. A lot of assumptions and prejudices are based on misinformation that has become widespread.( 问问自己,为什么你认为所有穷人都很懒惰,或者所有有心理健康问题的人都很危险。许多假设和偏见都是基于已经广泛传播的错误信息)”可知此处上下文说的是要反思自己,挑战自己的偏见和假设,不要受广泛传播的错误信息的误导,与G项“Educate yourself and listen to the groups that are affected by this misinformation(教育自己,倾听受此错误信息影响的群体)”表达的含义一致,故选G项。
14.根据下文“Don’t lump (合并) them into stereotypical (刻板印象的) groups with erroneous one-size-fits-all labels. Each person is an individual and comes with a set of flaws and strengths(不要将他们归入刻板印象中,贴上错误的“一刀切”的标签。每个人都是独立的个体,都有一系列的缺点和优点。)”可推理出此处上下文说的是要以平常心对待每一个人,与D项“Take each person as they come(以平常心对待每个人)”表达的含义一致,故选D项。
15.空格处是本段的小标题,根据下文“This means getting a direct experience of another person’s life, the “walk a mile in another person’s shoes” proverb. You don’t have to go quite that far, but consider taking on all the things that your mother does in a day for an entire week. (这意味着直接体验他人的生活,这就是“设身处地走一英里”的谚语。你不必走那么远,但可以考虑在一周内承担你母亲一天所做的所有事情。)”可知本段主要讲的是要对同理心进行练习,与A项“Practice experiential empathy(练习体验式同理心)”表达的含义一致,故选A 项。
Passage 4
What to Do When You Have No Motivation
When you have no motivation to complete a task or even start one, first consider the possible reasons why you’re struggling. 16 Not every strategy works for everyone — or in every situation. Perform some behavioral experiments to see which strategies best help you reach your goals.
17 When you think you’re going to fail, argue all the reasons why you might succeed. Or when you think you can’t finish a job, list all the evidence that shows you’ll be able to complete the task. There’s a chance that things might work out better than you expect. And you might find that developing a more balanced outlook will help you feel more motivated to try.
Use the 10-minute rule. The 10-minute rule can help you get started. Give yourself permission to quit a task after 10 minutes. When you reach the 10-minute mark, ask yourself if you want to keep going or quit. You’ll likely find that you have enough motivation to keep going. Getting started on a task is usually the hardest part. 18
Seek professional help. If your motivation remains low for two or more weeks, seek professional help. 19 Your doctor may want to rule out physical health conditions that may be affecting your energy or mood. Your doctor may also refer you to a mental health professional to determine if your lack of motivation might be related to a mental illness, like depression.
Everyone struggles with motivation issues at one time or another. 20 Experiment with strategies that increase your motivation, and ask for help if you need it.
A.Argue the opposite.
B.Act as if you feel motivated.
C.For example, schedule an appointment with your physician.
D.If you’re unwilling to go to school, stay at home for some time.
E.Then, develop a plan to help motivate yourself to get going.
F.Once you get going, however, it’s much easier to keep going.
G.The way you respond to your lack of motivation is what matters.
【答案】16.E 17.A 18.F 19.C 20.G
16.由上文“When you have no motivation to complete a task or even start one, first consider the possible reasons why you're struggling.(当你没有动力去完成一项任务,甚至开始一项任务时,首先要考虑你挣扎的可能原因)”和后文“Not every strategy works for everyone — or in every situation.(并不是每种策略都适用于每个人或每种情况)”可知空格处要表达的是找到适合自己的方法,故E选项“然后,制定一个计划来帮助激励自己行动起来”符合语境。
17.由下文“When you think you’re going to fail, argue all the reasons why you might succeed. Or when you think you can’t finish a job, list all the evidence that shows you’ll be able to complete the task. (当你觉得自己要失败的时候,找出所有你可能成功的理由。或者当你认为你无法完成一项工作时,列出所有表明你能够完成这项任务的证据)”可知,本段说明可以找出相反的观点来说服自己。A选项“辩论相反的观点”适合放在句首,作主题句。A选项中Argue与后文中argue为同词复现,前后文都是在说明面对没有动力时要反其道而行之,列出自己能成功的证据和理由。故选A。
18.由上文“Use the 10-minute rule. (使用10分钟规则。10分钟规则可以帮助你开始。允许自己在10分钟后放弃一项任务。当你到达10分钟的标记时,问问自己是否想继续还是放弃。你可能会发现自己有足够的动力继续前进。开始一项任务通常是最难的部分)”可知本句应当承接上文继续说明使用10分钟规则的效果,F选项“然而,一旦你开始行动起来,坚持下去就容易多了”符合语境。故选F。
19.由上文“Seek professional help. If your motivation remains low for two or more weeks, seek professional help.(寻求专业帮助。如果你的动力持续两周或更长时间都很低,那么就去寻求专业帮助)”可知本句应当承接上文具体举例说明如何寻求专业帮助,故C选项“例如,和你的医生预约”符合语境。C选项中“schedule an appointment with your physician”即预约医生,属于寻求专业帮助的一种具体方式。故选C。
G选项中“The way you respond to your lack of motivation”即你对缺乏动力的回应方式,能够概括上文的内容。故选G。

Passage 1
In the forest of New Mexico, scientists are carrying two ten-day-old Mexican wolf pups (幼崽) riding in a backpack, searching for a Mexican wolf pair that has just given birth to six pups. 1
Mexican wolves were extinct in the USA by the 1970s, but there was a plan to bring them back. The first step was to trap five wild Mexican wolves and breed them with two caged ones. In 1998, the first caged-born adult Mexican wolves were released into forests. 2 If animals have to pair up with family members, then their pups will have unhealthy genes, making them sick.
3 Let wild wolves adopt caged-born pups-that’s how these two pups end up in backpacks. While the adult wolves are out hunting, the scientists gently place the pups with their new brothers and sisters. They rub the caged-born and wild pups together, ever letting them pee (小便) on each other to mix their smells! 4 This result makes the scientists optimistic about the plan.
The idea is that the caged pups will grow up and breed with wild wolves. 5 Thanks to this ongoing work, 250 wild Mexican wolves wander Arizona and New Mexico today.
A.The scientists were content with it.
B.So the experts came up with a new plan.
C.The wolf parents only care for their own pups.
D.In this way their healthy genes will be passed down.
E.The population slowly grew, but scientists were still worried.
F.After that, the wolf parents won’t mind taking care of the new pups.
G.The wolf mum and dad don’t know it, but they’re about to adopt two more!
1.根据上文“In the forest of New Mexico, scientists are carrying two ten-day-old Mexican wolf pups (幼崽) riding in a backpack, searching for a Mexican wolf pair that has just given birth to six pups.(在新墨西哥州的森林里,科学家们背着两只10天大的墨西哥狼崽,寻找一对刚刚生下六只幼崽的墨西哥狼)”可知,上文提到科学家背着两只刚出生的狼崽,而下文特别是第三段讲述如何将圈养的狼崽送到野生狼崽中,让野生墨西哥狼接受并收养,但是狼爸和狼妈并不知道这情况。
2.根据上文“Mexican wolves were extinct in the USA by the 1970s, but there was a plan to bring them back. The first step was to trap five wild Mexican wolves and breed them with two caged ones. In 1998, the first caged-born adult Mexican wolves were released into forests.(到20世纪70年代,墨西哥狼在美国已经灭绝,但有一个将它们带回来的计划。
3.根据本段内容“Let wild wolves adopt caged-born pups-that’s how these two pups end up in backpacks. While the adult wolves are out hunting, the scientists gently place the pups with their new brothers and sisters. They rub the caged-born and wild pups together, ever letting them pee (小便) on each other to mix their smells!(让野狼收养在笼子里出生的小狼崽——这就是为什么这两只小狼崽最后会被装进背包的原因。
4.根据上文“They rub the caged-born and wild pups together, ever letting them pee (小便) on each other to mix their smells!(他们把笼子里出生的幼崽和野生的幼崽揉在一起,甚至让它们互相撒尿来混合它们的气味!)” 结合下句“This result makes the scientists optimistic about the plan.(这一结果使科学家们对该计划持乐观态度)”可以看出该做法是有效的,推测圈养狼崽被接受了。

Passage 1
Among all the stress management strategies out there we have long ignored one essential factor —rest. However, there has recently been a growing realization within psychology circles that the body and mind are deeply intertwined (缠绕) with each other.
Realizing how your physical health affects the mind
1 And there have been some remarkable discoveries in the research. The brain scans have shown that our brain processes “psychological” pain, such as the kind that arises out of social exclusion (社会排斥), in the same way it does physical pain. In fact, you can even take an aspirin for that kind of pain.
These are cases in point. 2 And if you have a bad night’s sleep, everything is more stressful the next day. While you are easier to stress when you are feeling down, the flip side (反面) is that you can fight it by looking after your body.
It is now common knowledge that physical exercise, in addition to therapy, helps to reduce depression. Besides, a healthy sleeping pattern also offers protection against all kinds of psychological disorders. 3
Rethinking the value of rest
When you decide to do something about your stress levels, try to rethink the value of rest. Usually the first step is to take better care of your body. 4 Moreover, moments of rest and relaxation ought to occupy a more important place in our lives. These important moments should not be regarded as a kind of “breather” in between jobs, but as a natural and key part of our life.
Rest is actually crucial to our well-being and is good for both body and mind. We all need at least a little time to think, to reflect on life and even just do nothing. 5 We need to see it as a crucial time to build up our reserves. It is only when we fully embrace (拥抱) rest that we will be able to take a stand against stress and burnout.
A.This step can lead to mental relief as well.
B.Aside from sleep, a healthy diet is known to reduce stress.
C.But there have been very few discoveries concerning the topic.
D.Our mental health is determined largely by our physical condition.
E.Getting enough rest is not just something we should do when we are tired out.
F.Having a good rest is something we need to do when we are in psychological disorders.
G.You may suffer more from stress when you are feeling run down or are suffering from a flu.
【答案】1.D 2.G 3.B 4.A 5.E
1.根据标题“Realizing how your physical health affects the mind(意识到你的身体健康是如何影响思想的)”以及后文“And there have been some remarkable discoveries in the research. The brain scans have shown that our brain processes “psychological” pain, such as the kind that arises out of social exclusion (社会排斥), in the same way it does physical pain. In fact, you can even take an aspirin for that kind of pain.(在这项研究中有一些显著的发现。脑部扫描显示,我们的大脑处理“心理”疼痛,比如由社会排斥引起的疼痛,与处理身体疼痛的方式相同。事实上,你甚至可以吃一片阿司匹林来缓解这种疼痛)”可知,后文的研究表明大脑处理“心理”疼痛与处理身体疼痛的方式相同,可知心理健康由身体状况决定,故D选项“我们的心理健康在很大程度上取决于我们的身体状况”符合语境,故选D。
2.根据上文“These are cases in point.(这些都是恰当的例子)”以及后文“And if you have a bad night’s sleep, everything is more stressful the next day. While you are easier to stress when you are feeling down, the flip side (反面) is that you can fight it by looking after your body.(如果你晚上没睡好,第二天的压力会更大。当你情绪低落时,你更容易感到压力,但另一方面,你可以通过照顾好自己的身体来对抗压力)”可知,本句与后文并列,都是就会造成压力的情况进行举例,故G选项“当你感到身体虚弱或患流感时,你可能会承受更多的压力”符合语境,故选G。
3.根据上文“It is now common knowledge that physical exercise, in addition to therapy, helps to reduce depression. Besides, a healthy sleeping pattern also offers protection against all kinds of psychological disorders.(现在大家都知道,除了治疗之外,体育锻炼还有助于减少抑郁症。此外,健康的睡眠模式还可以防止各种心理障碍)”可知,本段主要说明了可以减少心理障碍的一些健康,且上文提到了睡眠,故B选项“众所周知,除了睡眠,健康的饮食还能减轻压力”符合语境,故选B。
4.根据上文“When you decide to do something about your stress levels, try to rethink the value of rest. Usually the first step is to take better care of your body.(当你决定做一些事情来缓解压力水平时,试着重新思考休息的价值。通常第一步是要照顾好自己的身体)”以及后文“Moreover, moments of rest and relaxation ought to occupy a more important place in our lives. These important moments should not be regarded as a kind of “breather” in between jobs, but as a natural and key part of our life.(此外,休息和放松的时刻应该在我们的生活中占据更重要的位置。这些重要的时刻不应该被视为工作之间的一种“喘息”,而是我们生活中自然而关键的一部分)”可知,本句承接上文说明这么做的好处,A选项中This step对应上文first step。故A选项“这一步也能使精神得到缓解”符合语境,故选A。
5.根据上文“Rest is actually crucial to our well-being and is good for both body and mind. We all need at least a little time to think, to reflect on life and even just do nothing.(休息实际上对我们的健康至关重要,对身心都有好处。我们都至少需要一点时间来思考,反思生活,甚至什么都不做)”以及后文“We need to see it as a crucial time to build up our reserves. It is only when we fully embrace(拥抱) rest that we will be able to take a stand against stress and burnout.(我们需要把这看作是建立储备的关键时刻。只有当我们完全拥抱休息时,我们才能对抗压力和倦怠)”可知,上文建议反思生活,什么都不做,本句承接上文,说明需要做的事情是休息。故E选项“得到足够的休息不仅仅是我们累了才应该做的事情”符合语境,故选E。

Passage 1
What comes to mind when you think about chocolate? A candy bar at Halloween? Ice cream on a hot day?
For Ibrahim, a 12-year-old boy from the West African country of Ghana, chocolate is not about sweet treats; it is about bitter work. 1 But if they did, we would learn that Ibrahim spends his days growing and harvesting cocoa beans, from which chocolate is made. We would also learn that he is just one of more than two million children who perform this difficult labour instead of attending school.
To change the harmful practices like this, some farms use an approach called Fairtrade. 2 It aims to create a different relationship between buyers (chocolate companies) and sellers (cocoa farmers) by encouraging farmers to join together to form a shared business called a cooperative. Because farmers work together instead of competing with each other, they can demand a higher price from the buyers. 3
Consumers like you can play a role as well. You can buy Fairtrade chocolate if possible, pressure candy companies to change their labour practices, or ask local stores to sell Fairtrade products. 4 It is a programme recognizing schools that provide Fairtrade products in cafeterias or include related lessons in curriculum (课程).
Chocolate has a hidden story that affects children like Ibrahim—children who want a happy future just like you do. 5 By enjoying Fairtrade products or simply spreading the word, you can make chocolate as sweet for all children as it is for you.
A.You have the power to change the story.
B.The labels on chocolate do not tell his story.
C.Fairtrade is a way of doing business that prohibits child labour.
D.You can also take action through the Fairtrade Schools network.
E.On many farms, children like Ibrahim perform difficult farming tasks.
F.Cocoa trees grow in the tropical climates of Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia.
G.With more income, farmers can pay adult workers and can send their children to school.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.G 4.D 5.A
1.上文“For Ibrahim, a 12-year-old boy from the West African country of Ghana, chocolate is not about sweet treats; it is about bitter work. (对于来自西非国家加纳的12岁男孩易卜拉欣来说,巧克力并不是甜食,而是甜点。这是关于艰苦的工作。)”指出制作巧克力是12岁男孩Ibrahim的艰辛工作,下文“But if they did, we would learn that Ibrahim spends his days growing and harvesting cocoa beans, from which chocolate is made. (但如果它们是这样,我们就会了解到易卜拉欣每天都在种植和收获可可豆,然后用可可豆制成巧克力)”是一种假设,由此可知,空处应用与下文内容相反,应该介绍我们无法了解到Ibrahim的情况,B项“巧克力上的标签并没有讲述他的故事。”符合,下文的they代指The labels on chocolate,故选B。
2.上文“To change the harmful practices like this, some farms use an approach called Fairtrade. (为了改变这样的有害做法,一些农场采用了一种称为Fairtrade的方法。)”指出为了严禁雇佣儿童,一些农场使用了叫做Fairtrade的方法,空处承接上文,对此方法进行介绍,C项“Fairtrade是一种禁止童工的经营方式。”符合,故选C。
3.上文“Because farmers work together instead of competing with each other, they can demand a higher price from the buyers.(由于农民共同工作而不是相互竞争,他们可以向买家索要更高的价格。)”
4.上文“Consumers like you can play a role as well. You can buy Fairtrade chocolate if possible, pressure candy companies to change their labour practices, or ask local stores to sell Fairtrade products.(像你这样的消费者也可以发挥作用。如果可能的话,你可以购买公平贸易巧克力,向糖果公司施加压力,要求其改变劳工惯例,或者要求当地商店销售公平贸易产品。)”可知,许多儿童从事艰巨劳动而不能上学,对此消费者可以发挥一些作用来帮助他们,上文具体提出了消费者可以做的事,空处也应是具体措施,D项“你还可以通过公平贸易学校网络采取行动。”符合,故选D。
5.上文“Chocolate has a hidden story that affects children like Ibrahim-children who want a happy future just like you do. (巧克力有一个隐藏的故事,影响着像易卜拉欣这样的孩子——他们和你一样想要幸福的未来。)”可知,从事艰巨劳动而不能上学的儿童和你一样也想要幸福的未来,下文“By enjoying Fairtrade products or simply spreading the word, you can make chocolate as sweet for all children as it is for you.(通过买公平贸易产品或只是传播这个信息,你可以让巧克力对所有孩子来说都像对你一样甜。)”

Passage 5
With the semester approaching its end, sophomores (高二学生) are faced with three significant exams. These include the information technology high school academic proficiency test, the general high school academic proficiency qualification test, and the final joint examination of key high schools in Yancheng. 21 .
For the review content arrangement, it is essential that students make a detailed plan. What comes first is the information technology exam. 22 . It is recommended that they spend sufficient time on operating different software and understanding their functions. For the academic proficiency qualification test, a comprehensive review of all subjects is necessary, especially those fundamental concepts and formulas (公式) that act as the building blocks of knowledge. As for the joint examination, it is advisable that they summarize the knowledge learned during the semester and practice with mock tests.
Psychological adjustment is equally important. It is necessary that students keep a calm and positive attitude. 23 . Instead, they can take short breaks during study, which can help them to regain energy. Deep breathing exercises or listening to soft music can be effective stress relievers.
In terms of time planning, students need to allocate their time reasonably. 24 . For example, in the early morning, when the mind is as fresh as a daisy, they can focus on memorizing theoretical knowledge. In the afternoon, they can engage in exercises and mock tests to strengthen their understanding and application abilities.
In conclusion, only by carefully arranging the review content, effectively adjusting the psychological state, and wisely planning the time can students be well-prepared to face these three important exams and achieve satisfactory results. 25 .
A.Through such efforts they can hope to move forward on their academic journey
B.They need to make a schedule showing the particular time for each subject and exam
C.The methods of review and preparation are far from being crucial
D.All these exams are like crucial battlegrounds for their academic progress
E.What requires their focus is the practical skills and theoretical knowledge
F.By no means should they be overwhelmed by stress and anxiety
G.A large amount of time should be devoted to key subjects

Passage 1
D.Students can now access information from around the world in seconds.
E.However, the technology in education also comes with some challenges.
F.The traditional classroom is still the most effective way to teach students.
G.The convenience of online learning platforms has made education more accessible.

E.And recycling centers play a key role in this process.
F.We should focus on economic development at all costs.
G.These actions can have a positive impact on the environment in the long run.

Passage 1
C.Consider opening a high-yield savings account instead.
D.If you stick to it throughout the year, you’ll save $1, 378 extra dollars.
E.They come with many mobile banking apps and money-saving apps.
F.Match weekly savings amount with the number of the week in your challenge.
G.It’s important to adjust the challenge to fit your personal financial circumstances.

15

He really enjoys the time with this sport and he finds people of all ages joining the team.
