Passage 1
(24-25高一上·安徽涡阳·期末)
Mia was shy, often found lost in the pages of her favorite books rather than engaging with (融入) the world around her. Her friends and family often encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone, but Mia was hesitant, fearing rejection and the unknown.
One day, Mia came across an announcement for a local writing workshop, hosted by a famous author. The workshop promised to help aspiring (有抱负的) writers find their voice and share their stories with the world. Despite her fears, Mia felt a sudden interest. She had always loved writing but never dared to show her work to anyone.
As the day of the workshop was coming, Mia’s anxiety grew. She worried about what others would think of her writing and if she would be able to keep up with the more experienced people. To calm herself, Mia spent several nights reading over her favorite stories, looking for inspiration (灵感) and comfort in the familiar words.
On the morning of the workshop, Mia woke up early, dressed carefully, and headed to the place where it was held with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. As she entered the room, she noticed a diversity of people, all sharing a common love for writing. The atmosphere (氛围) was warm and welcoming, which helped calm Mia slightly.
The workshop began with a series of exercises designed to unlock creativity and build confidence. Mia found herself gradually opening up, sharing bits and pieces of her writing and receiving helpful advice from other people and the instructor. She was surprised to discover that her words touched others, leading to conversations and connections she never thought possible.
One particularly memorable exercise was to write a short story in just thirty minutes. Mia, in a rush, wrote about a young girl who beat fears to follow her dreams. As she read her story aloud, Mia couldn’t help but feel a sense of connection to the character, realizing that her own journey was not so different.

Passage 2
(24-25高一上·淮北一中·期末)
When Jaron Casillas was very young, his parents discovered that he saw the world a bit differently, a Texas sunrise for example.
One morning, Jaron’s mom was driving him to school beneath an especially spectacular Texas sunrise. She heard his little voice from the car seat behind her say, “Look, Mommy! Look at the beautiful green sunshine!” She turned to look at it. The rising sun was so beautiful, flooding the earth with warm and red light. However, Jaron’s mom was about to cry. “Oh dear, my poor boy,” she thought.
Without delay, the parents rushed Jaron to the hospital for a check- up, which turned out to be color blindness.
On that fateful day, Jaron’s parents were shocked to learn that their son was color blind — a condition that affects a person’s ability to see colors in the same way as others. There is no cure, but special glasses can help individuals like Jaron distinguish between different colors. Unfortunately, these glasses are often too expensive for most families to afford.
The parents were sad, but Jaron remained calm and even comforted his parents. He saw his condition as something special and decided to keep it a secret. However, his silence caused him to feel left out when others talked about colors.
One day, during a class discussion, the teacher, Christina Hayes, asked the students to share a secret about themselves. Working up his courage, Jaron revealed his condition to his classmates, explaining that he saw gray instead of colors like purple, green, and blue. When the teacher asked if there was anything that could help him, Jaron mentioned the special glasses, but noted that they were too expensive for his family.
Hearing Jaron’s words, the teacher fought back tears and praised the boy for his bravery The other students looked at Jaron with newfound understanding and empathy.

Passage 3
(24-25高一上·安徽宣城·期末)
Last summer vacation, I traveled to Sanya in Hainan, China. When my dad told me one of the items on the journey would be one of the highest water slides (水上滑梯) in Asia, I asked my dad repeatedly whether I could stay at home. But my dad said that I would love it and we should go together.
Three days later, I was standing in front of that water slide in Atlantics Waterpark. The slide was located in a building. When I looked up at the tens of thousands of stairs leading to the peak of the building, I thought to myself, “If I fall from that place, I will definitely die.”
As we started climbing the stairs, I saw three words on the wall: Leap of Faith. I had never heard of these words, and at that time they reminded me of Road to Death. Five meters, ten meters ... I looked down and thought, “I am going to die today.” Fifteen meters, twenty meters ... I thought about the many things I hadn’t done and asked my dad whether I had life insurance. Twenty-five meters, thirty meters ... and we were finally at the top, ready to jump into the slide. I looked at the three people next to me and thought, “These are the last three people I will see in my life.”
Suddenly, the teenage boy ahead of me stopped in front of the slide and turned around, “Look down there. If we fall into the shark tank, we will be eaten by those hungry sharks.” We all paused and looked down at the shark tank above the slide tunnel. Just then, a younger boy next to me said, “Excuse me, if you don’t want to go now, I will go first.” Then he walked past the teenage boy and me and jumped into the slide, disappearing in an instant.
My father said to me jokingly, “Look, that boy is not even half of your height. Come on, Selina. You can do it.” The teenager turned and stared at me too, “Now, you go first.”
Paragraph 1:
With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the edge of the slide.

Paragraph 2:
A moment later, my father came down.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the edge of the slide. The sunlight reflected off the water below, making it seem both inviting and threatening. I closed my eyes, crossed my legs, wrapped my arms around myself, and took that “Leap of Faith”. Initially, the drop was terrifying, and I could feel my heart racing. As I swung through the slide’s twists and turns, fear became a thrill of excitement. It took me only several seconds to get to the bottom of the slide, marking the end of the highest water slide adventure in Asia.
Paragraph 2:
A moment later, my father came down. There was a note of excitement on his face. The teenage boy from before, who had warned me about the sharks, arrived next, wearing a victorious smile. We exchanged wide-eyed glances, both recalling the exciting journey we had just conquered. It was a moment of shared success, and my initial unwillingness had transformed into an unforgettable adventure. That day, I learned that everything we want could be on the other side of fear, and in a moment like this, I’d better take a leap of faith.

Passage 1
(23-24高一上·宿州十三校联考·期末)
Brian sat on his front doorstep. He really wanted a new bike. Joe had just gotten one for his birthday, and Tyler’s was only about a year old. Brian had had his for five years. The seat was up as high as it could go, and his legs were still too long for his bike. Brian wanted a bike just like Joe’s and Tyler’s. Their bikes were perfect for popping wheels and cruising over bumps. If only he had 110 dollars. All he could come up with was 33.67 dollars. Where could he get the rest of the money he needed?
Brian thought and thought. His birthday was still five months away, and he was too young to mow lawns. What could he do to get the money? Maybe his dad would advance his allowance for the next few months. He got three dollars every Friday if he did all of his chores. His dad had agreed to do this once before, when Brian needed an extra six dollars. Maybe his sister would loan him the money. She had a lot of money saved up from baby-sitting. Baby-sitting! That was it! Brian could baby-sit. Oops! Wait a minute. No one would hire Brian to baby-sit. He still was not allowed to stay home by himself yet. What could he do to get the money? Brian sat and thought.

Passage 2

Summer was coming to an end and there was a bit of Autumn in the air. The temperatures were getting cooler and cooler, the air was turning drier, and I could already see the first yellow and red leaves on the trees. It’s my favorite season. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which made people feel very comfortable. You could see fruit everywhere. Therefore, I spent as much time as possible in the wild, enjoying the beauty of nature.
One day, I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch (门廊). Its bottom hadn’t even turned to wood yet, but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it.
I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil. I knew, however, that it couldn’t grow much larger where it was. I bent (弯腰) down and gently took it out of the earth. I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it. Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grassland behind my house.
Walking into the forest, I had a wonderful feeling. Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it. You can’t be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect.
I also took a moment to look at all the life around me. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds, all so full of life. And I felt so happy that my behavior, however small, was helping do good to nature.

The tree seemed happy in its new home, its leaves glistening in the sunlight. I knew that this little tree would grow strong and tall, just like all the other trees in the forest.
Para 2:
Following my daughter’s suggestion, we built a garden to save plants. We collected seeds and seedlings from around the neighborhood, planting them in our small plot of land. Passage 4
(24-25高一上·江南十校·期末)
New Beginnings
My sister and I weren’t exactly what you would call close. I was three years younger, and I thought she walked on water. Everything she did was perfect, and I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. If she wore her hair in twin braids (辫子) with a pink clip one day, the next day I wore mine exactly the same way. I used to follow her and her friends around, begging to be included, but there isn’t much room in a 13-year-old’s life for a troublesome 10-year-old sister. As a result, over time, my worship (崇拜) of her became indifference. We were strangers living in the same house, eating together but never communicating.
So when she sat me down one day last year and told me she’d be going to Israel to study abroad for ten months, I wasn’t too concerned. I figured I would get to wear the clothes she left behind and use her CD player. That was the only way I thought her leaving would affect me.
That first night after she left, I sat in my room and tried to do homework. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong, something was missing. The house was too quiet. No Tova’s CD player and no Tova’s voice giggling on the phone with her friends. Sitting there, I realized just how different it was without her in the house. Even though we didn’t speak, I had felt safe just knowing she was near.
I cried that night. I cried over all the years we had wasted trying to live our own lives and ignoring each other’s. I cried that I couldn’t even give her a hug before she boarded her plane. But as the night wore on, my tears changed to tears of calm, tears of new beginnings.
I picked up the phone and called her halfway across the world. I waited for her to pick up, my doubts growing with every second.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
“Hello?” Her voice sounded as though it came from nearby and not Israel. “Hey, Tova. It’s me, Sara,” I said, my voice trembling. “I just wanted to say... I miss you.” There was a pause. I could hear her breathing on the other end. Finally, she broke the silence, her voice soft. “I miss you too, Sara.” Those simple words opened a floodgate of emotions. We talked for hours, sharing laughs, regrets, and moments we had never acknowledged. It felt like we were sisters again, as though the distance was drawing us closer than ever before. Before hanging up, Tova said warmly, “Thank you for calling, Sara. I want us to be better from now on.”
Since then, we often called each other. Each call brought us closer, and the barriers between us melted away. We started to share our daily lives, dreams, and even struggles. One day, Tova surprised me by saying, “You should visit me here. I’ll show you everything.” Her invitation felt like a new beginning in our relationship. When she finally returned home, I rushed into her arms without hesitation. “Welcome back,” I whispered, feeling her warmth. She smiled and said, “It feels good to finally come home to my sister.”

Passage 5
(24-25高一上·安徽临泉·期末)
Alexis and Zoe were sitting at the kitchen table doing their homework. They had a hard time focusing on their homework because the radio station was playing music from their favourite band, the Shape Shifters.
“I can’t believe the Shifters are going to be playing here and we can’t go!”Alexis said.
“I know,”Zoe replied. “Tickets are sold out in five minutes and even if we can get some, they are so expensive! ”
“It's totally unfair,”said Alexis.“They should give the tickets to their biggest fans first!”
“You mean us, right?”Zoe said.
“Obviously,” said Alexis. “Everyone knows we're their number one fans.”
Zoe turned the radio up a bit louder. Their favourite song was on, and the girls had an impromptu (即兴的) dance party right there in the kitchen. As it ended, they sat on their chairs again. The radio host started talking about the concert.
“I have exciting news to share with all of you. We will give away two tickets to Saturday’s sold-out show and will look for the third caller who can correctly answer this question: who is the oldest member of the Shape Shifters? ” the host said.
Alexis and Zoe looked at each other. They couldn’t believe how easy the question was.
“It’s Georgie!” said Alexis.
“No, it’s Natasha,”answered Zoe.
“Everyone knows Georgie is 29. He’s much older than the rest of the band, ” said Alexis.
“I know he’s the oldest person, but the question is who’s the oldest member of the band. Natasha started the band when she was just 15. The others joined the group after her,” Zoe explained.
Alexis thought for a while and later agreed with Zoe. And they decided to call the radio station to answer that question. They stood together and held their breath.
“Hello, girls, you are lucky caller Number 3!” The girls screamed excitedly. “Nobody seems to know the answer to our question. Do you? ”the host continued. Zoe said,“We know the answer! ”“I hope so. If you get it right, you’ll have a chance to Saturday’s sold-out show! ”

【答案】One possible version:
“Okay, I am ready to answer that question,” Zoe said breathlessly. “We think people don’t understand the question. Georgie is the oldest person in the band, but your question is which member is the oldest and that means who has been in the band the longest. So we think the answer is Natasha!” The girls waited and the kitchen clock ticked on, making each second slower. Were they wrong? Were they going to miss out on their only chance to see their favourite band?
“Congratulations, girls! You’ve won two tickets to this concert!” the host shouted. The girls screamed, dropping the telephone in their excitement. They picked it up quickly and could hear the host laughing on the other end. “You must be big fans of the band.” “The biggest!” answered the girls, hugging each other happily. They thanked the radio station for providing them with these two tickets. And the host said that they deserved them because they grasped the chance to pursue what they really cared for at the right time.

Passage 7
(24-25高一上·安徽合肥·期末)
Finally, the bell rang. “Don’t forget to practice your class presentation at home!” Miss Bella cried as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jessy felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jessy was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jessy watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jessy sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee’s watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jessy knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn’t want to run after him. Jessy bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jessy put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. “I’m going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I’ve won lots of competitions. But when I’m in a race, I’m not really thinking about winning. I’m just loving the feeling of being in the water...”Jessy laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jessy saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee’s watch really did have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Bella asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jessy slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Bella could say anything, there was a shout from behind. “She’s stolen my watch!” Lee said angrily, “It went missing at school yesterday.”

However, on second thoughts of the well-prepared speech and the magic of the watch, she changed her mind. “Miss Bella, could I give the speech first and then explain?” She made a request in a tone of begging.
Miss Bella smiled and asked the class to listen to Jessy’s speech first. Jessy put away her fright, took a deep breath, and made for the platform. Casting a glance at the sea of faces watching her, Jessy cleared her throat and began her speech. “I’m going to talk about swimming...” Word began to flood out of her. “What a terrific speech.” Whispers went around the classroom, and even Miss Bella nodded with approval. Immediately Jessy finished her speech, a storm of applause erupted from the class. Relieved, Jessy told everyone the truth, and especially the magic of the watch. She returned the watch to Lee as she eventually realized the real source of confidence.

One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother, Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person. That person was a young lady in her twenties. After eating, she went to the restroom. Without realizing, she had left her cellphone on the table. Five minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the cellphone on the table. She quickly told Keith, “Keith, the girl left behind her cellphone.”Keith looked at the cellphone. It took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. Keith had always wanted a cellphone. But his parents had told him, “You don’t need one. You can always use the house phone.” He stared at it for some minutes. Then, he said slowly, pausing on every word, “I want to take the cellphone.” Mary could not believe her ears. She only stared at her brother, “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it?”
After making the decision, Keith quickly got the cellphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then, he took Mary’s hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home, Keith locked his room door with trembling (颤抖的) hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. Oh, he liked it so much. He had his own cellphone. Soon, he was polishing it happily. But Mary told him, “Keith, you cannot keep the cellphone. What will you tell our father about this? He will ask you how you got the cellphone.” Keith said quickly, “I will say a friend lent it to me.” Mary said, “Now you are lying too. Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest?”
Then, Mary saw a house phone number on the cover of the cellphone. “This is the girl’s phone number. Why don’t we just call this number? We will talk to her and ask her to come and take back her cellphone,” she was trying to talk some sense into him.

Passage 2
(23-24高一上·合肥一中·期末)
“Let’s invite the neighbors to a get-to-know-you party!” I announced to my wife, Sarah, and our 11-year-old twins, Olivia and Holly, as we pulled into the driveway of our new house.
The idea had come to me the day we moved in a month earlier. Every time we passed each basketball field and garden, my excitement grew. Families! I could picture us all hanging out together.
Now, here I was at the end of that driveway, sitting in my camp chair, having serious second thoughts. What if we wait a couple more months to hold a get-together? What if we get to know a few folks first? Anyway, I made the final decision.
Sarah rearranged bags of chips and popcorn in a basket she’d set out. “I hope we have enough,” she said. Olivia and Holly threw the beanbags to each other to pass the time. A week earlier, Sarah had designed the invitations, “Hello! We’re new to the neighborhood. The Miller Family. We’d love to meet you. Monday, July 5, anytime between 6 and 8 p. m. It would be great fun!”
Sarah and the girls had gone house to house, putting an invitation in their mailboxes on Whitney Drive, namely the Parkers, a single mother Sally with two kids and Mr. Davis. Coming home, the kids excitedly talked about the Willsons’, an elderly couple they me t in the neighborhood, who seemed to be quite interested when they told them about the party.
However, we hadn’t heard a word since. I checked my watch. 6:10. Maybe I’d misjudged. Sarah also had her doubts obviously. “Would we look silly sitting all alone in our front yard?” she said. “What if no one shows up?” I put my arm around her and drew her close. “We have to have faith,” I said. Then I took two bottles from the cooler I’d stored with juice boxes and cold drinks. Sarah and I clinked (碰杯) them together. “To our new neighborhood,” I said.

【答案】 Another 10 minutes dragged by and then my eyes widened. In the distance, across the road, a couple walked in our direction. The woman was holding a bunch of flowers. “Someone’s coming!” Holly and Olivia called out, jumping up and down. With a racing heart, I watched as they headed our way. I sprang out of my seat, ran to them and reached out my hand. “Hi! I’m Tim. Thank you for coming!” “I’m Kyle Willson,” the husband said, shaking my hand firmly. “And I’m Emily,” his wife said. Smiling gently, Sarah took the bunch of flowers from her, hugged her and then led them to the yard. I was less anxious at that time.
Chatting with the old couple in the yard, we found more neighbors coming. Sally with the lovely kids, the Parkers, and Mr. Davis all made it here. We introduced each other and talked over refreshing cold drinks, bursting into laughter from time to time. “This is such a great idea and thank you for offering us the opportunity to bond with everybody on Whitney Drive.” Sally said. Olivia and Holly ran around with the kids, laughing out loud. From that day on, we often spend time together and help each other. I’ve learned that it’s not a place that builds a community but the people.

A few weeks after the start of the school year, Mello noticed that his friend Melvin was being laughed at by other classmates for the fact that his shoes were worn out (破旧的). Mello couldn’t stand seeing his friend being bullied (欺凌). He really didn’t appreciate other people talking about him that way. In fact, he had been bullied because he was short, so he decided to call his mother immediately after school. He told her that he was tired of this bad situation and that he couldn’t stand anyone laughing at his friend. So, in an act of generosity, Mello suggested that he use his pocket money to buy Melvin a new pair of shoes. He also said that he could do without a New Year gift. Seeing the little boy acted as an adult, the mother was deeply touched and agreed to his request.
After buying them, Mello went to bed earlier than usual, so he could wake up early the next day and go to school a little earlier. This way he could deliver the shoes to his friend without being noticed by other classmates. However, shortly after he gave the shoes to his friend, the headmaster, Bryant Brown, called him into his office.
Mr. Brown told him that he had seen Melvin with a shoebox around the school. When he asked Melvin what was in the box, Melvin showed him that it was a new pair of shoes. Passage 4
(23-24高一上·安徽阜阳·期末)
It is a challenging journey to change their lives for the best and get the healthiest they knew how to. Lexi and Danny lived their lives like most other young couples who fell in love with each other and then made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. The couple spent a lot of time watching TV and going to different restaurants, and as you would imagine, the endless junk foods were their “go-to” choice. Though they would manage to lose some weight during the time, but before long, they would gain it back.
Lexi weighed a 485 pounds at the age of 25, a weight that was quite unbelievable to imagine. Danny, on the other hand, was also overweight himself even though he was 200 pounds less than Lexi. However, the sad part of everything was that they were both gaining more weight on what they already had with each passing day. Some of their daily activities, no matter how simple, became a real problem for the couple. They couldn’t go for walks or bicycle rides no matter how easy they were. However, in 2016 just after a year after the marriage, they decided to make a positive change in their life.
The couple decided to take on a challenge that would change their lives forever and for good! So many people make promises to themselves and others that they don’t really carry out but the couple were not about to do like the others. Theirs were destined (注定的) to come to reality. They made a detailed plan to go on a diet and take exercise on a daily basis. At first, they thought the whole process would have been a piece of cake. As they pressed on, each passing day showed them that this challenge would not be a walk in the park. They got a gym membership to help out.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
The weight-losing lessons offered at the gym were not easy, a real challenge for them. At first, no matter what efforts they made, they couldn’t keep at the pace of the other people in the class, because of their huge weight. Especially for Lexi, she was unable to get through with the lessons. However, the encouragement and support from their friends and family led them to keep up. They worked as a team, supporting each other, so none of them would fail. They kept up on the journey to lose weight.
Paragraph 2:
Just after a month, they both felt so much better, and they were pleased with the way they looked. Of course, this new feeling gave them a lot of confidence to keep pushing to achieve the final goal they were working for. Before long, their efforts began to pay off. Lexi was dropping about 20 pounds and Danny 11 pounds per month. Now the couple both have a good shape and enjoy a happy life. To keep up the gain, they are still taking exercise every day, however busy they are. Importantly, they keep off junk foods.

Passage 5
(24-25高一上·安徽涡阳·期末)
As a college student majoring in engineering, Tom was in bad need of an advanced computer, which would cost him an arm and a leg. Tom chose not to upset his parents with this issue because he didn’t want to be dependent on them all the time. After careful consideration, Tom decided that a second-hand computer of high quality would also do and he could afford one with the money he had earned by taking part-time jobs.
One Saturday morning, Tom went into a second-hand computer shop. Luckily for him, he came across a computer of the exact model he wanted. Better still, it was nearly brand new and was sold at just a third of its original price. It meant that if Tom bought it, he would still have 300 dollars left. It seemed too good to be true! Out of curiosity, Tom asked the shop owner why the computer was sold at such a low price. “Oh, it’s a sad story,” replied the owner, adding that it was from a college student called Steven who was diagnosed with some type of cancer last month and now was badly in need of money for his treatment.
Hearing this, Tom felt truly sorry for the young man who was supposed to have a promising future. But at the same time, he also felt lucky to have this ideal computer for his college life. Without hesitation, he paid the shop keeper, took the computer and went back to his dorm (宿舍). He couldn’t wait to show his computer to his roommates. Everyone in the dorm thought Tom was lucky to have got the computer.
But deep in his heart, he knew something was not going right.

【答案】One possible version:
But deep in his heart, he knew something was not going right. When he began using the computer to complete his assignment, he just couldn’t stay calm and peaceful in mind, even feeling a sense of guilt. Of course he didn’t do anything wrong, but an inner voice kept echoing in his mind: “There’s something else you can do.” Tom thought it over and an idea sprang to his mind. The next day, he went back to the shop and asked the shop owner how he could get in touch with Steven.
With the phone number given by the shop owner, Tom contacted Steven and paid him a visit. Handing over the computer to its original owner, Tom said: “I do believe you will need it after you beat the disease.” Before Steven could say a word, Tom added: “And I also have 300 dollars for you. I can take more odd jobs and will get a new computer before long.” Moved into tears, Steven replied: “Thank you so much my friend! You can keep the computer until I go back to campus, by which time I think you will have saved enough for a new computer.” Inner peace came back to Tom when he used the computer again.

Passage 1
(23-24高一上·安徽芜湖·期末)
As is known to all, the traffic is very poor and heavy. The bus or the train is really crowded. Every time I go home from my company or leave home for my company, I have to accept such a hard experience though I have been used to it.
On a cold December morning in 2020, I boarded a bus with my four bags which were large. Luckily, there were two empty seats left. About one hour later, a well-dressed young guy got on and took the seat next to mine. I was cautious. I would often come across guys who were eager to talk to a girl travelling on her own. So I was not surprised when he spoke up.
“Where are you going?” he asked.
“Rampur Bushehr,” I replied briefly and put on my earphones to enjoy some music or to avoid talking with him. He did not bother me after that as if he had known my idea.
It started to rain and cold water was dropping through the roof right on to my lap. Seeing that, the guy emptied a plastic shopping bag full of clothes, which he pushed into his travel bag. He then handed me the plastic bag. I accepted it with a sheepish (困窘的) “thanks” before spreading it on my lap.
Minutes later, the bus broke down! The conductor announced we would have to move to another bus that would reach us shortly, and that there would be no more buses after that, since there had been heavy snowfalls. All the passengers of the bus got off and stood on the side of the road, ready to rush into the next bus. The conductor unwillingly helped me get off the bus with my luggage and I too waited with other passengers.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】When the bus finally arrived, it had many passengers already. It seemed there wasn’t enough space for me, let alone my four bags. Seeing that, that young guy came to me, “Don’t worry, I’ll help you get on it.” As a stranger, he behaved too enthusiastically, which made me felt awkward, but I was curious about how he could make it. When the door opened, the guy rushed into the bus. Through the window, I saw he talked to the driver and pointed at me. After a while, the driver asked the crowd to make a path. I didn’t realize it was for me until everyone looked at me. Someone even helped to carry my luggage. It was really crowded on the bus, but at least I got on it.
As the bus left for my hometown, I looked around for the guy. He did me such a favor and I should say thanks to him, but not sheepish this time. However, reminded by another passenger, I found that he was on the side of the road, waving goodbye to me. I came to the window and shouted to him, “What’s your name?” The guy smiled but didn’t reply. The bus bumped its way slowly down the road, while his figure gradually faded away and my heart couldn’t be calm for a long time. We do have to accept hard experiences sometimes, but still can expect kindness and warmth.

Passage 2
(24-25高一上·合肥六校联盟·期末)
It was exam time at Marc’s school. Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it. Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study.
His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he thought he had better things to do.
“Shall we go to the park?” he said to his friend Huck one afternoon. “It’s a nice day. We could play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I’m supposed to review my lessons,” he said. “I’m going home to do some math.”
Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?”
“Math is important. Besides, my mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.”
“That’s crazy,” said Marc. Huck shrugged (耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!”
“You won’t beat me,” said Marc.
“Oh yes, I will.”
“Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!”
For the first time ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. When his sister Lily came in, he was sitting expressionlessly by the desk, just staring out of the window.

【答案】“You don’t look happy, Marc. What’s wrong?” she said. Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision. He wanted to make careful preparations for the exam, but ran into difficulties with math. He was at a loss for what to do next. “Don’t worry! I’ll help you. Just be confident!” replied Lily. The following days, Marc worked very hard and made great progress. Gradually, his confidence grew and he could solve math problems with ease, with the instructions appearing in his brain as if the teacher were standing at his side.
On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win. But Marc didn’t care. When the exam began, Marc answered all the questions as best as he could. Several days later, the result came out. It turned out that Marc did much better than Huck. “Well done,” said Mom. “We could go to see a movie to celebrate, and you can choose one.” “I think Lily should choose,” said Marc. “I would never have gained such a great achievement without her help and encouragement.”

With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the edge of the slide.

Passage 2
(23-24高一上·合肥六中·期末)

Passage 3
(24-25高一上·皖北六校联考·期末)
When my daughter. Rachel was 6 years old, and we went to the local shelter, looking for a perfect cat. We liked all the cats we saw there, but we especially loved one that was black with a small white tip to her tail, like a bright star in the night sky. We brought her home and called her Starry.
Starry was lovely. At night, when we watched TV, she would come into Rachel’s lap and comfortably stay there. Starry always got her face close to Rachel’s, ending her love with a gentle touch on Rachel’s nose. Sometimes I felt so jealous (忌妒的) of their love. Although I was the one who took care of the cat, feeding and cleaning it, Starry was clearly Rachel’s cat. Finally, I came to love watching their close relationship
My little girl grew up and went to senior high school. Starry and Rachel were still close, though Rachel spent less and less time at home. Starry spent most of her day sitting on the sideboard in the dining room, looking out of the window into the backyard. I loved seeing her as I passed by her, for her shiny black coat almost sparkled (闪烁) in the sunlight, and the white tip of her tail looked bright against the shining black of her body.
One Sunday morning, early in November, Starry got out of the room before we could stop her. When Rachel came home from school, she went into the room with a worried expression. “Where’s Starry?” she asked. When we told her we didn’t know, she led us outside with her. There was a black cat lying on the street.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·安徽·期末)

One day, Daddy Bear suggested having a really wild camping. “What is a really wild camping? Is it an adventure?” wondered Dudu. “Yes! Everything in the city is too comfortable; we need to go to wild to have an experience!” replied Daddy Bear.
“Can I play with my toy cars there? And can I watch cartoon there?” Dudu was a little worried. “There are more interesting things there! We can bathe in the clear pool, taste delicious wild fruits, fish by the clear lake and fall asleep in the quiet night.” Daddy described it in excitement. “It’s wonderful!” Dudu was deeply attracted to the description. “But maybe it’s dangerous!” Mama Bear worried. “Mummy always worries so much! I want to be an explorer this time!” Dudu thought.
Dudu and his families started off. First, they needed to cross a single-log (独木的) bridge. This single-log bridge was the only way to the forest. Seeing the rushed water under the single-log bridge, Dudu had a little regret to come here with Daddy Bear. “Don’t be afraid!” encouraged Daddy Bear. “Just go ahead, don’t look at the river!”
Dudu tried to toe (用脚尖走) on the bridge, and the bridge started to shake. Dudu was so scared (害怕的) that he kept his body unmoved. “The bridge frightens you on purpose! Just go ahead, the bridge won’t shake!” Daddy said behind Dudu. Dudu continued to go ahead. “Ha-ha! It’s true! The bridge really doesn’t shake anymore!” Dudu cried happily, going faster.
