But raising the animals produces about 14.5% of the world’s greenhouse gases. Plant-based butter also requires land, water, and space to grow. Savor wanted to create a kind of butter that tasted great and was also planet-friendly. Fats like butter are made up of chains of the elements hydrogen （氢） and carbon. Elements are simple chemicals that can’t be broken down into smaller parts. Scientists at Savor pulled CO from air and combined it with hydrogen and oxygen to create fat, then mixed the fat with water to turn it into butter.
