【2025原创】Have you ever visited a new place where things felt very
different? This is called “culture shock”.It can feel strange or uncomfortable. But
culture shock is also a great chance to learn about different ways of life and
understand people better. Let’s read some stories from travellers.

Jo from the UK usually eats everything with a knife and fork, even pizza!
In India, she was surprised people ate curry using only their hands and a
flatbread called chapati. “It took some time to get used to,”she said. Learning
this new way was interesting.
Kevin visited Japan but didn’t speak Japanese. The writing looked different,
and few people spoke English. He learnt a few words but often needed hand
signals to communicate when buying things or asking directions. It was a real
challenge!

Aniruddh from India visited the USA. He was amazed by the shopping rules.
In America, you can buy things like clothes or food and return them within 90
days for your money back, often for any reason. This was very different from
shops in India.
Aga moved from Poland to the UK. She thought the culture would be
similar, but she was wrong. In Poland, people usually don’t chat with strangers
about personal things. But in the UK, strangers often asked friendly questions
about her day. This “small talk” felt very strange at first.
These stories show culture shock happens when we meet different customs.
It might feel weird, but it helps us open our minds, learn new things, and
understand different ways people live worldwide.#8
