阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

With most of the world’s population expected to live in urban cities by 2050, there’ll be a growing demand for smart streets. Here are four possible ways smart street technology will develop.
Artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure (基础设施)
Chris Carson founder and CEO of US-based Hayden AI, says that AI-powered sensors (传感器) in cities collect everything from vehicle speed and traffic flow to the make and model of cars on the road. Sensors can analyze and improve traffic flow, and minimize accidents.
Electric charging roads
They will allow electric vehicles to charge as they drive. Moreover, the surface pressure of cars could also serve as a source of renewable energy. Marco Krieziu, commercial director of Italian company 20energy, says its product, LYBRA, recovers energy and heat from the passage of vehicles over its surface and changes it into electricity.
Jigsaw puzzle (拼图) roads
They will allow cities to adapt quickly to traffic patterns, construction needs or emergencies. Thanks to PlasticRoad, they’re already being used as bike and foot paths in Belgium and the Netherlands. Carlo Ratti Associati also developed a multipurpose street where blocks could be moved or replaced within minutes to change a road’s function. The street could, for example, serve as a road in the mornings and as a basketball court in the evenings.
With smart street technology like this still in the early stages of development, experts think it necessary to let citizens decide what kind of city they want to live in tomorrow.
1. What can AI sensors help do?
A. Make new cars. B. Store rainwater.
C. Reduce traffic jams. D. Charge electric cars.
2. Which one created a road that can serve different uses?
A. Hayden AI. B. 20energy. C. PlasticRoad. D. Carlo Ratti Associati.
3. What can we infer from the text?
A. Smart streets will let out drivers’ privacy.
B. Smart streets are widely used in most cities.
C. Smart streets will replace all traditional roads eventually.
D. Smart streets can help cities meet different needs quickly.

Following a long voyage in extreme conditions, Zhai Mo sailed back to Shanghai after becoming the first man to successfully circle the Arctic Ocean.
The famous Chinese explorer set sail from Shanghai on June 30, 2021, to start the challenging journey aimed at raising awareness about the link between land degradation (退化) and climate change. Along with two crew members, Zhai travelled more than 28,000 nautical miles (海里) in over 500 days.
Born in Xintai, east China’s Shandong Province, Zhai first set his sights on a painting career and became a painter after graduating from college. His interest in sailing was triggered when an experienced Nordic sailor explained the charm of the water sport. He was the first Chinese to sail alone around the world in a motorless boat, completing the journey in 2009, with some in the media calling him “the Chinese Robinson Crusoe”.
Zhai hopes his action will call the world’s attention to the impact of human activity on the environment — particularly the Arctic. Originally planned to end in four months, the voyage was delayed by extreme weather, cyclones (气旋) and floating ice. “The temperature in the Arctic Ocean can reach minus 50 to 70 degrees Celsius in winter,” said Zhai. “If we didn’t manage to leave a certain area during the ice-melting window, the boat would get frozen, leaving us as targets for polar bears. But we were fully prepared, having carried enough food supply. We also sailed past three of the world’s four largest fishing grounds.” he added. He noted many Arctic islands are named after sailors who died there, as icebergs — “as high as buildings, hard as rocks” — bring great danger.
Despite loving sailing, Zhai keeps his artistic pursuit, collecting voyage inspiration for a large-scale humanity-themed work. His next goal is to sail around Antarctica.
4. Why did Zhai Mo circle the Arctic Ocean?
A. To document the extreme conditions in the Arctic region.
B. To call on people to focus on related environmental issues.
C. To collect materials for his humanity-themed artistic work.
D. To be the first Chinese to sail alone through the Arctic Ocean.
5. What does the underlined word “triggered” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Supported. B. Stirred. C. Faded. D. Delayed.
6. Which is part of Zhai Mo’s team’s preparation for the Arctic voyage?
A. Bringing along sufficient food.
B. Making detailed plans to drive away polar bears.
C. Reducing the voyage length as much as possible.
D. Choosing to sail through all major fishing grounds.
7. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Zhai Mo’s personal life story from a painter to a sailor.
B The difficulties and dangers of sailing in the Arctic Ocean.
C. Zhai Mo’s historic Arctic voyage and its environmental mission.
D. The collection of inspiration for Zhai Mo’s art works during sailing.

Primates — the group of mammals that includes apes, humans, lemurs, and monkeys — often help each other raise their young babies. A new study has found that snub-nosed monkeys choose who babysits their young based on who has the most parenting experience.
A team of researchers at Southwest Forestry University in China made this discovery by accident. They noticed that during the breeding season at the Baimaxueshan National Nature Reserve, black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys often passed around their newborns. The monkeys took turns cleaning, carrying, and feeding the newborns. This behavior reminded the team of the way humans babysit for one another, so they decided to observe the monkeys more closely. The researchers followed the group every day for six months. They observed more than 400 moments in which a female monkey interacted with a mother and newborn. Some of these interactions included cleaning the newborn or gently pulling them closer.
Once the babies were slightly older, the mothers were more likely to allow other females to take care of them. When choosing a babysitter, the mothers seemed to base their decision on how much parenting experience the other female monkeys had. Younger females with less experience would usually be allowed to look after the babies after a more experienced monkey had given up their babysitting duties.
Letting other group members help with childcare can make it possible for mothers to get the rest they need. It also has benefits for inexperienced caretakers. Chun-Yan Cui, one of the researchers involved in the study, told New Scientist that caring for others’ young gives the younger females a chance to learn more about parenting, which prepares them for having their own offspring in the future. She said that more research needs to be done to find out whether the monkeys’ social status affects babysitting choices and whether being related to the mother makes a difference.
8. What did the researchers observe about snub-nosed monkeys?
A. They cared for newborns in turn.
B. They let inexperienced monkeys babysit.
C. They kept newborns away from other females.
D. They communicated with newborns frequently.
9 What does a mother monkey mainly consider when choosing a babysitter?
A. The babysitter’s age and energy level.
B. The babysitter’s social rank in the group.
C. The babysitter’s previous childcare experience.
D. The babysitter’s family relationship with the mother.
10. How do younger female monkeys benefit from their role as babysitters?
A. They obtain higher social status.
B. They spend less time on other duties.
C. They gain practice for future parenting.
D. They receive food rewards from the group.
11. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A. How Monkeys Choose a Proper Babysitter
B. What Benefits Monkey Babysitting Brings
C. What Behaviors Monkeys Show in Babysitting
D. How Researchers Observed Monkey Babysitting

Dinner time is often the perfect opportunity for families to share conversations each day. However, a new study published on 2 May by The Week Junior magazine into the decline (下降) of mealtime chats has found that these conversations are not happening as often as families would like. This is because of a rise in screen time combined with families’ busy lives.
The study carried out a survey of 2,000 families in the UK with children between eight and 16 years old. One in three families said they sit down to enjoy a family meal every day of the week, but 77% of these families also said they have phones out at the dinner table. Just over half of children use their devices while they’re eating, and many said they were attracted by eating in front of the TV. Children aren’t the only ones on their devices, though. The results found that two in five children have to ask their parents to put their phones down at the table.
Most of the children taking part in the survey want to have more conversations at the table. Lots of them enjoy debating different topics, including what’s in the news and what’s happening on the school playground. Also, 83% of children said they prefer having these conversations with their parents or guardians face-to-face instead of over the phone.
Making time to talk to other people and family members is really good for your wellbeing. Dr Elizabeth Kilbey, a psychologist says family conversations during mealtimes strengthen relationships and build children’s confidence and communication skills. She explains, “Dinner time provides a powerful platform for essential conversations.”
Vanessa Harriss, editor of The Week Junior, agrees that conversations at the dinner table are really important for the whole family, whether it’s discussing everyone’s day or what’s going on in the world. “That’s why we’re launching our ‘Something worth talking about’ campaign (运动),” she says. “We want to encourage all families to take time to talk.”
12. What is one main reason for the decline of mealtime conversations according to the study?
A. Children would rather eat in front of the TV.
B. Families are too busy and use screens too much.
C. Parents are often distracted by their phones at the table.
D. Children are unwilling to talk about school life at dinner.
13. What can be inferred about the children surveyed?
A. They are not interested in talking about school life.
B. They prefer online communication with their parents.
C. They are more likely to use devices than their parents.
D. They hope to have more face-to-face chats at dinner.
14. Why does the author mention Dr. Elizabeth Kilbey?
A. To provide a child’s personal viewpoint on mealtime chats.
B. To offer an expert’s opinion on the benefits of family conversations.
C. To introduce a new psychological theory about family communication.
D. To explain why children prefer face-to-face conversations with parents.
15. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraph?
A. Other advantages of family dinners.
B. Advice on the decrease of screen time.
C. Readers’ different voices on the study.
D. Specific information about the campaign.

Poetry expresses emotions and conveys ideas, but that’s not all it can do. ___16___ When you’re writing poetry, keep your goal in mind: are you writing to stir emotion, or to get a good grade on your essay? Here are a few tips to help you write a good poem.
___17___ To determine a topic to write about, look for inspiration around you, perhaps in nature, your community or the people in your life. Take notes on how different things make you feel and what they drive you to think about. Once you have a topic and a theme in mind, choose to write in a particular style so that you force yourself to find a way to creatively express your theme while fitting that style’s limits.
Explore words, rhymes (韵律) and rhythm (节奏). Specific rhythm or rhyme highlights your poem’s themes and wordplay (双关语). To use rhythm well, pair it with a specific style. If you choose a style, read similar poems for reference. ___18___
Now it’s time to write! Whether you use a pen and paper or type on a computer, give yourself some uninterrupted time to focus on writing the poem. Don’t expect to write something perfect on the first try. ___19___ Even if your lines don’t rhyme perfectly, write what’s on your mind. The theme your words are expressing is more important than the specific words themselves.
Once you have a draft, the next step is to edit your poem. ___20___ Then in a day or two, come back to your poem with a critical eye. Read it aloud again, take note of any spots where you can replace a word with a stronger one, tighten your rhythm, or even remove words that aren’t adding anything to the poem.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The engine made a weak noise like a sick dog. Thick smoke came out from under the hood (引擎盖), mixing with the yellow dust on the Montana grassland. I had driven for three hours to interview Jason, the local hero who had saved five people from a burning truck the previous Sunday. My car broke down on the road, and with my limited knowledge of cars, I really had no idea how to fix it.
As the sun went down behind the faraway hills, painting the sky orange and purple, a rundown pickup truck stopped behind me. A big man got out. He was very tall and strong, with muscles showing through his dirty work jacket. His face looked weather-beaten, with a thick beard (胡须) and serious eyes. A metal badge (徽章) was shining on his chest, but I didn’t know what it meant — perhaps from a work team or a local group.
“Need help, Miss?” the man asked. His voice was loud and worn out, as if he had been shouting a lot. In such a wilderness, I doubted his intentions. My heart raced so fast that I feared he might hear it. “My… my friend is coming,” I said, lying. I looked straight at the side mirror, hoping someone would appear there.
The man noticed my hesitation. He took out a dirty notebook from his pocket and tore out a page. I heard his pen scratch (发出沙沙声) as he wrote. Then he knocked on my window with the paper. “This is my number,” he said, holding it up. “Call if you need help.” He drove away, leaving me alone in the dark with the wind blowing through my broken car.
I called the official rescue service immediately. “You’ll wait two hours,” the operator said. “Or we can send a private team nearby.” After hesitating for a second, I made a quick reply, “Okay, send the private team.” The sky was getting darker, and I didn’t want to keep waiting in the dark wilderness.
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Unexpectedly, it was the big man who came to the rescue.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Obviously, the man was the Jason I was going to interview.

C To collect materials for his humanity-themed artistic work.

B They let inexperienced monkeys babysit.
C. They kept newborns away from other females.
D. They communicated with newborns frequently.
9. What does a mother monkey mainly consider when choosing a babysitter?

【答案】12. B 13. D 14. B 15. D

Dear Jenny,
I really like the idea of taking an optional course.
I choose English Film Appreciation because it fits my interests and helps improve my English. Watching English films lets me learn natural expressions that textbooks don’t have, which makes my English more practical. I also believe that understanding stories from different cultures through films can broaden my mind. Besides, it’s relaxing to enjoy good movies after busy study, and I can share ideas with classmates who have the same hobby.

第二节(满分25分)

Obviously, the man was the Jason I was going to interview.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Unexpectedly, it was the big man who came to the rescue. Without saying much, he walked to my car, lifted the hood, and started checking the engine. His rough hands moved carefully, as if he knew every little detail of the engine by heart. Sure enough, he completed the repair in just ten minutes. I thanked him repeatedly, then mentioned that I had actually driven there to interview Jason — a hero who had saved five people from a burning truck the previous week. Upon hearing my words, he glanced down at the metal badge on his chest and smiled softly. “You mean me? My name’s Jason,” he said.
Obviously, the man was the Jason I was going to interview. I was so surprised that I quickly held up my notebook and conducted the interview on the side of the road. During our talk, Jason shared the story of saving people, adding that he just did what he thought was right. It was at that moment that I realized: he was not only a brave hero, but also a kind, down-to-earth man. That unplanned meeting, filled with warmth, felt like a lovely surprise — and it brought home the truth of the old saying: “Heroes are made in the hour of need.”
