We carefully measured the walls, picked out paint colors, and 21 about the lovely home we would build. Progress advanced 22 , and I recall saying, “Who said renovating was hard? This is so much fun.” Weeks turned into months, and the pace began to slow down. After six months, instead of seeing the beautiful sea view before me, I only saw bare dirt patches, unpainted pillars, and unfinished rooms. Guests were due to arrive, and the place looked like a messy building site. I 23 , “Will we ever get this finished?” That’s when I decided to revisit photographs from just a few months earlier. I was 24 by the transformation we had achieved. Look at the pillars that had been painted, and the blossoming garden we had cultivated! I think it’s fun that you can communicate with us humans by using the sign language. I’ve spent a lot of time watching you in different videos and love you from the bottom of my heart. It’s heartbreaking to learn about all of the cruel things done to gorillas(大猩猩). In Africa, for example, the killers use guns to kill your fellows for meat. They don’t understand the influence their actions are having on gorillas. Another thing is the loss of gorillas’ natural home, which is caused by the improved infrastructure such as building roads and airports. When we cut down trees, you become homeless. We take away your shelter and sources of food, leaving you with very little chance of survival. Some of my classmates are writing to the relevant departments about these serious problems. Hopefully these letters will make a difference during your lifetime. Over the past three months, my class has been researching on gorillas, and I’ve learned so many things. For example, I’ve learned that you have a lot of feelings similar to mine and you are always so careful with everything you do. I think that you are really worth saving. We’ve come up with many ideas to help you and your fellows. One of the best ideas is to communicate with the President of the World Bank and have him give more financial support to the organizations for gorillas. Another idea is to make public laws on the killers. I also think we need to keep educating people about gorillas. I love writing to you and hope you can understand how important you’ve become to our class. Would it be too much to ask for a return letter? Mike 43.According to the passage, Koko is probably ________. A.a killer of gorillas B.a member of the gorilla family C.an expert on gorillas D.a governor in charge of gorillas 44.What is mainly talked about in the second paragraph? A.The problems gorillas face at present. B.The danger gorillas cause for humans. C.The unique characteristic gorillas have. D.The natural environment gorillas live in. 45.The author suggests that ________. A.gorillas should be protected in nature reserves B.killers for gorillas should be legally responsible C.organizations should be set up to protect gorillas D.people should make donations to gorilla protection 【答案】43.B 44.A 45.B 【分析】本文是写给大猩猩的一封信,信中讲述了大猩猩当前的悲惨遭遇及人类应该采取的保护措施,以保护大猩猩的生存环境。 I think it’s fun that you can communicate with us humans by using the sign language. When we cut down trees, you become homeless. We take away your shelter and sources of food, leaving you with very little chance of survival. I think that you are really worth saving. 根据第二段中all of the cruel things done to gorillas...the killers use guns to kill your fellows for meat. Another thing is the loss of gorillas’ natural home等信息可知,本段主要是描述了大猩猩当前被捕杀和家园被破坏的不幸遭遇,故选A。 45. Another idea is to make public laws on the killers. 小题2根据第二段all of the cruel things done to gorillas. the killers use guns to kill your fellows for meat. Another thing is the loss of gorillas’ natural home等信息可知本段主要是描述了大猩猩当前被捕杀和家园被破坏的不幸遭遇。 B Five days a week, 28-year-old Ebony Smith arrives at Changing Gears Bike Shop at 10:50 a.m., ten minutes before opening. Walking into the shop, she turns on the lights, opens the register, and reviews the repair orders. For the next several hours she will repair bikes with professional skill and care, and guide customers through bike choices like an experienced rider, learning about their needs and preferences, and helping them to find the perfect fit. Although Smith had almost no experience riding a bike and didn’t even enjoy riding one when she first came to Changing Gears, she has stayed in the position for nearly a decade now, and her customers are thankful to her heartfelt assistance. What’s more, many of the shop visitors are youth from families living in low-income housing named Alameda Point. Smith lived in this neighborhood throughout her childhood, and to these youngsters and families she is a positive role model-someone determined to succeed in spite of educational and financial struggles. When she first began at Changing Gears at 19 years old, Smith was living with her parents, who struggled to make a living. She had failed to earn a high school diploma when she didn’t pass California’s high school exit exam. However, when a three-month job training position opened at the bike shop in 2008, Smith took a chance to, as she says, “turn her life around”. She signed up and was quickly hired. Smith is just one of the thousands of Changing Gears’ employees around the world, and her continued success at Changing Gears embodies the shop’s duty to “operate a bicycle-based social enterprise that meets the needs of the underprivileged of our local area”. In addition, the shop has a strong environmental focus, which includes bicycle reuse and recycling. Throughout the years Changing Gears has also engaged youth and families in bicycle field trips and provided free bicycle parking and repair service at local farmers’ markets in order to encourage bike riding as a practical and green form of transportation. Through its blending(协调)of effective small business practices with a social and environmental duty, Changing Gears stays inspired to use bicycles as a vehicle for social change. 46.What can we learn about Ebony Smith? A.She is a bike shop owner. B.She is a professional rider. C.She has a good knowledge of bikes. D.She has a lot of shopping experience. 47.What does the underlined word “embodies” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A.Be an example of. B.Be similar to. C.Be the reason for. D.Be modeled after. 48.Which of the following is Changing Gears’ duty? A.Making bike donations. B.Offering help to the poor people. C.Improving bike-riding techniques. D.Drawing people’s attention to bike enterprises. 根据文章第一段“For the next several hours she will repair bikes with professional skill and care, and guide customers through bike choices like an experienced rider, learning about their needs and preferences, and helping them to find the perfect fit.”(在接下来的几个小时里,她将用专业的技能和关怀来修理自行车,并像一个经验丰富的骑手一样引导顾客选择自行车,了解他们的需求和喜好,并帮助他们找到最合适的自行车。) 根据文章第四段“and her continued success at Changing Gears embodies the shop’s duty to “operate a bicycle-based social enterprise that meets the needs of the underprivileged of our local area”(她在 Change Gears的持续成功embodies该店的责任,即“经营一家以自行车为基础的社会企业,满足当地贫困人口的需求”。可以猜测出embodies为“代表”之意。故选A。 48.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“the shop’s duty to “operate a bicycle-based social enterprise that meets the needs of the underprivileged of our local are.”(该店的责任,即“经营一家以自行车为基础的社会企业,满足当地贫困人口的需求”。)可知,Changing Gears职责是为当地的穷人提供帮助。故选B。 C Young students are often considered “digital natives,” with technology integrated into every aspect of their lives. While this can be an advantage in some situations, research has shown that the impact is not entirely positive—the Internet allows them to quickly find information at the cost of significant distraction in class. Without being attentive, students will be incapable of processing information, which means they’re not going to be able to understand, analyse, criticise and come to some decision about the information. When students can’t seem to focus, a common idea among teachers is that short is good. Many teachers simply cut lessons into smaller pieces. Some teachers begin classes with mindfulness exercises when students need to concentrate. However, it turns out that any sort of “tech breaks” could counteract the desires to come back to study. Some teachers also choose to “meet students where they are” on platforms like YouTube. A 2018 study from Pearson found that students tended to stay away from physical books, preferring video as a source of information second only to teachers. By meeting students where they already engage and create, teachers can better catch attention. However, while some educators are welcoming technology in the classroom, multiple studies have shown more traditional classrooms can be more successful. A 2014 study found taking notes in longhand helped students withhold information better than using a laptop. Researchers also point out switching between short teaching pieces too quickly could take valuable comprehension from the students. Students need time to engage with a topic before moving on. Even many tech advocates find value in traditional methods and suggest an integrated learning. They agree teachers’ authority remains vital and the face-to-face interaction between students and teachers is still the primary component in the classroom. Technology will be favoured only when it improves a lesson in ways that are impossible offline. Success is no longer about knowing the most. Instead, it’s the ability to think critically and creatively, the very skills that digital media weakens by lowering attention spans. If you think of people who became successful in the tech world, it wasn’t because they could code; it was because they could think. Digital natives will continue to eagerly adopt new media. Teachers have no choice but to upgrade themselves, not only to ensure students can access and take advantage of new technologies, but to educate students to succeed in a world constantly trying to distract them. 49.What result has technology brought to students? A.It urges them to process information. B.It prevents them obtaining information. C.It ruins their possible classroom distraction. D.It damages their ability to digest information. 50.What does the underlined word “counteract” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Maintain. B.Motivate. C.Reduce. D.Replace. 51.What can we learn from the passage? A.Direct instruction takes priority in lessons. B.Digital resources will weaken offline learning. C.Small lessons can engage students in learning. D.Laptop noting helps students gain knowledge better. 52.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Students need to learn to get rid of social media. B.Teachers should progress to educate the young generation. C.The benefits of technology on education outweigh its harm. D.Traditional methods are favoured by both teachers and students. 【答案】49.D 50.C 51.A 52.B 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述现在电子科技已经融入到了年轻学生的生活中,研究表明互联网让他们能够快速找到信息,而代价是课堂上的注意力严重分散。教师别无选择,只能自我提升,这不仅是为了确保学生能够接触和利用新技术,也是为了教育学生在一个不断试图分散他们注意力的世界中取得成功。 【解析】49.推理判断题。根据第一段最后一句话“Without being attentive, students will be incapable of processing information, which means they’re not going to be able to understand, analyse, criticise and come to some decision about the information.”(如果注意力不集中,学生将无法处理信息,这意味着他们将无法理解、分析、批评并对信息做出决定。)可推知,互联网会让学生的注意力分散,注意力分散后就不能很好的去消化所获得的信息。故选D。 50.词义猜测题。根据第二段第三句话“Some teachers begin classes with mindfulness exercises when students need to concentrate.”(当学生需要集中注意力时,一些老师开始上课时进行正念练习。)以及转折连词however可知前后为转折关系。根据划线所在句子的“ any sort of “tech breaks””(任何形式的“技术突破”)和后面的“the desires to come back to study”(重返学习的欲望)可知,老师在上课是会想一些办法让学生集中注意力,但是,只要碰上和互联网有关的东西,就会降低孩子们学习的欲望,所以counteract的意思为“减少,降低”。故选C。 51.推理判断题。根据第五段第一、二句话“Even many tech advocates find value in traditional methods and suggest an integrated learning. They agree teachers’ authority remains vital and the face-to-face interaction between students and teachers is still the primary component in the classroom. ”(甚至许多技术倡导者也发现传统方法的价值,并建议进行综合学习。他们同意教师的权威仍然至关重要,师生面对面的互动仍然是课堂的主要组成部分。)可知,在教学当中,我们应该遵循传统的方法,老师和学生面对面教学,老师对学生做出直接的指导应该在教学中占优先地位。故选A。 52.文章大意题。通读全文,并结合最后一段最后一句话“Teachers have no choice but to upgrade themselves, not only to ensure students can access and take advantage of new technologies, but to educate students to succeed in a world constantly trying to distract them.”(教师别无选择,只能自我提升,这不仅是为了确保学生能够接触和利用新技术,也是为了教育学生在一个不断试图分散他们注意力的世界中取得成功。)可知,这篇文章想要表达我们不可能避免网络或科技给学生们带来的害处,只有老师不断提升自己来教育年轻的一代,让他们在一个不断试图分散他们注意力的世界中取得成功。故选B。 D The Price of a Piece of History A fresh lemon can be bought for less than $1. But in 2008, Cowan’s Auctions (拍卖) in Cincinnati sold a lemon blackened with age for $2,350. What was so special about this lemon? It was said to be from a tree planted by George Washington. According to a handwritten note attached to the bottle containing the lemon, the fruit was picked by Washington’s “old gardener” some 43 years after the first president’s death. Collecting a piece of history, or an object associated with a famous person, is not fresh. Yet determining potential values of such objects isn’t easy. For one thing, their origin, or history of ownership, is both important and sometimes difficult to prove. Photographs of the famous person with the object, as well as letters, diaries referring to the object can help. The uniqueness of many of historic objects makes it more difficult to put a value on them. To assess the value of a Picasso painting, one can look at recent prices paid for other Picasso paintings of the same period, similar size or style. Finding another recent sale of a lemon planted by George Washington is a different matter. Katie Horstman, head of Cowan, says she could find no comparables for the lemon as she prepared the auction. However, she finally arrived at an estimated (估计的) value by researching auction records for objects somehow associated with Washington that had appeared on the market. Often the final selling price of objects touched by history has to do with the moods and passions of the collectors and other potential buyers expected to be present on auction day. But even the experts can make a mistake sometimes. For instance, a 2016 Christie’s sale in London included a 1935 jacket worn by Albert Einstein, and a pocket watch the physicist had owned in 1900 when he was 21 and still largely unknown. The jacket sold for ₤110,500, well above its estimated value of ₤40,000 to ₤60,000. The watch, meanwhile, which had an estimated value of ₤15,000 to ₤20,000, sold for ₤266,500. Thomas Venning, director of Christie, has his explanation for why the watch sold for so much more than the jacket, and likely for more than the experts would have guessed. There are photographs of Einstein, the father of relativity, wearing the jacket, Mr. Venning says. “But Einstein’s jacket didn’t change the world. The watch, and the sense of time, is what we know him for, which made it more valuable to collectors.” 53.What do we know about the lemon sold for $2,350? A.It has been kept well by Washington’s gardener. B.It was associated with Washington due to a note. C.It was collected 43 years before Washington’s death. D.It was put in the bottle by Washington a century ago. 54.The author mentions the Picasso painting to ________. A.highlight the difficulty of valuing the lemon B.compare its value with Washington’s lemon C.illustrate the way to assess a piece of history D.analyse the value of objects related to Picasso 55.What can we learn from the passage? A.No comparables led to the high value of the lemon. B.The estimated value is expected to dominate the final price. C.Passions of the collectors are the decisive factor of the value. D.Documents referring to the object can help determine the value. 56.What can we infer from the passage? A.Historic objects are like a mirror reflecting reality. B.It is reasonable to value historic objects at a high price. C.Historic objects offer people a sense of changing the world. D.Collectors are responsive to estimated value of historic objects. 【答案】53.B 54.A 55.D 56.B 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了几个名人物品的拍卖案例以及评估名人物品的拍卖价值的难度。 【解析】53.细节理解题。根据第一段“According to a handwritten note attached to the bottle containing the lemon, the fruit was picked by Washington’s “old gardener” some 43 years after the first president’s death.(据装柠檬的瓶子上的一张手写纸条显示,这颗柠檬是在美国第一位总统去世43年后,由华盛顿的“老园丁”采摘的。)”可知,这个卖了2350美元的柠檬与华盛顿的联系是由于一张便条。故选B。 54.推理判断题。根据第三段“The uniqueness of many of historic objects makes it more difficult to put a value on them. To assess the value of a Picasso painting, one can look at recent prices paid for other Picasso paintings of the same period, similar size or style.(许多历史文物的独特性使得给它们估价变得更加困难。要想了解毕加索一幅画的价值,可以看看同时期、类似大小或风格的其他毕加索画作的近期价格。)”可推断,作者提到毕加索的画是为了强调给柠檬估价的困难。故选A。 55.细节理解题。根据第二段“Photographs of the famous person with the object, as well as letters, diaries referring to the object can help.(名人拿着该物品的照片,以及与该物品相关的信件和日记都能有所帮助。)”可知,与该物品有关的文档可以帮助确定该价值。故选D。 56.推理判断题。根据最后一段““But Einstein’s jacket didn’t change the world. The watch, and the sense of time, is what we know him for, which made it more valuable to collectors.”(但爱因斯坦的夹克并没有改变世界。手表和时间感是我们认识他的原因,这让他对收藏者来说更有价值。)”可推断,历史文物价值高是合理的。故选B。 第四部分:书面表达(共三节,30分) 第一节:词汇填空。Complete the sentences with the correct form of the expressions in the box。(共10小题;每小题1分,共10分) breath survive distance disappear determine measure operate suffer cheer shelter 57. Rather, it is a powerful force that holds us at its mercy. As much as we try to make use of nature and bend it to our will, we are the ones who must always adapt. In the same way that we must live our lives by the rhythms of the sun though the sun does not notice our existence, it is we who must order our lives by nature, and not the other way around. This should create in us both humility and awe. Nature is more powerful, mysterious, and beautiful than anything we ourselves could ever make with our own hands. Just as we cannot control the wind, we cannot create anything as beautiful as a simple rose, and there is so much about nature that is still beyond our comprehension. Since our own powers and abilities are so limited compared to the richness of nature, we would do well to appreciate it more, to stop and consider its greatness, to stand in awe of its complexity and magnificence. 由此可知,67为superpowers,68为rhythnms,69为comprehension,70为appreciate,71为existence 第三节:阅读回答问题(共10分) Smartphones have become a big part of people’s lives. When we temporarily can’t find them, it causes a feeling of anxiety or panic. Some psychologists have called it “nomophobia”. Thankfully, I rode through the withdrawal of my smartphone and it was short-lived. When I got my first smartphone over a decade ago, I loved it. It gave me instant access to my music, a world of information and thousands of photos and videos. But over time, I became increasingly ambivalent about its role in my life. I would repeatedly refresh my email, shop online for stuff I didn’t need and constantly scroll through the latest news. I’d often complain to my husband and to my seven-year-old son, Louis, that I felt trapped by it. Then, one day last summer, while I was playing with Louis, I was once again distracted by dings and pings. He finally reminded me of my complaints, but rephrased them as a plea: “Mommy, just give it up already!” I decided to try. Instead of going cold turkey — no cellphone at all — I bought a flip phone. With no touch screen, texting is time-consuming. Once, while trying to catch up on texts with a friend, I finally got frustrated and called her. I realized I hadn’t spoken to her since her big move. It made a difference to hear both the excitement in her voice as she described seeing the northern lights and her sadness in being away from a sick parent. Nowadays, people may prefer text-based communication over using the phone because they fear that the call will be awkward. But, just as I learned, when we were forced to connect voice to voice, we would find ourselves more bonded to that person. Wuyou Sui, an expert researching digital health, describes nomophobia as a reliance that’s been placed upon us. “Whenever something is designed to make a choice easier, it’s called a behavioural nudge,” he explains, adding that the more central to our lives the smartphone’s functions are, the more prisoned we become. Ultimately, though, that sense of dependence is false. As I’ve found, you can do all the things you need to do in other ways. It’s not always convenient, but I know I’m much calmer on a regular basis without my smartphone. 72.What does “nomophobia” refer to?(2分) 73.Why did the author decide to give up her smartphone?(2分) 74.Apart from the ways mentioned in the passage, what can you do to avoid “nomophobia”? (In about 40 words)(6分) 【答案】72.It refers to a feeling of anxiety or panic that we have when we temporarily can’t find our smartphones. 73.Because she felt trapped by her smartphone and her son asked her to give it up. 74.To avoid nomophobia, one can consider taking regular breaks from technology and engaging in offline activities. Besides, you can turn off your phone or leave it at home when you don’t need it, and focusing on the people and things around you. 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章说明了什么是“无手机恐惧症”以及作者因为感觉被智能手机困住,而听从儿子的建议,戒掉了手机的经历。 【解析】72.考查细节理解。根据第一段“When we temporarily can’t find them, it causes a feeling of anxiety or panic. Some psychologists have called it “nomophobia”.(当我们暂时找不到它们时,就会产生焦虑或恐慌的感觉。一些心理学家称之为“无手机恐惧症”)”可知,“无手机恐惧症”指的是我们暂时找不到智能手机时产生的焦虑或恐慌感。故答案为It refers to a feeling of anxiety or panic that we have when we temporarily can’t find our smartphones. 73.考查细节理解。根据第二段“I’d often complain to my husband and to my seven-year-old son, Louis, that I felt trapped by it. (我经常向我的丈夫和我七岁的儿子路易斯抱怨,我觉得自己被它困住了。)”和第三段“Then, one day last summer, while I was playing with Louis, I was once again distracted by dings and pings. He finally reminded me of my complaints, but rephrased them as a plea: “Mommy, just give it up already!”(然后,去年夏天的一天,当我和路易斯一起玩的时候,我又一次被叮叮当当的声音分散了注意力。他终于提醒了我我的抱怨,但他用恳求的语气说:“妈妈,快放弃吧!”)”可知,作者决定放弃她的智能手机是因为她觉得自己被智能手机困住了,儿子让她放弃。故答案为Because she felt trapped by her smartphone and her son asked her to give it up. 74.考查开放答题。根据“除了文中提到的方法,你能做些什么来避免‘无手机恐惧症’?”可知,为了避免“无手机恐惧症”,人们可以考虑定期远离科技产品,参加线下活动。此外,当你不需要手机的时候,你可以关掉手机或把它放在家里,把注意力集中在你周围的人和事上。故答案为To avoid nomophobia, one can consider taking regular breaks from technology and engaging in offline activities. Besides, you can turn off your phone or leave it at home when you don’t need it, and focusing on the people and things around you. 1. Twelve month ago, my husband John and I took on a renovation (翻新) project in a new country. In the first ten days, it was like an exciting adventure. D.The natural environment gorillas live in. 45.The author suggests that ________. A.gorillas should be protected in nature reserves B.killers for gorillas should be legally responsible C.organizations should be set up to protect gorillas D.people should make donations to gorilla protection B Five days a week, 28-year-old Ebony Smith arrives at Changing Gears Bike Shop at 10:50 a.m., ten minutes before opening. C Young students are often considered “digital natives,” with technology integrated into every aspect of their lives. D The Price of a Piece of History A fresh lemon can be bought for less than $1.
