Thanks to China’s 144-hour visa-free transit policy (过境免签政策), 34-year-old Julia went back to Guangzhou again. She visited Guangzhou 10 years ago.
From December 5th to 17th, 2024, Julia traveled from Russia to Asia to spend the winter holiday. Her first stop was Guangzhou. After Julia and her friends arrived in Guangzhou, they had their first surprise: the Guangzhou subway app. ________ She had to look at maps to find her way. “The app is really helpful. It’s so easy to travel by subway here,” said Julia. “We don’t need to worry about getting lost. There are always friendly workers ready to help, though they don’t speak much English.”
When Julia walked on Shangxiajiu Street at night, she was surprised by how modern the city was. “I feel like I’m in the future. We can see all the high buildings and electric (电动的) cars everywhere,” she said. Ten years ago, there were many fewer high buildings or cars on the road.
“I feel very safe, though it is late at night,” said Julia. “It was wonderful to go out at night!” She spent lots of time trying different kinds of night market food. How delicious!

Off the northwest coast of Malaysia, a group of islands called Langkawi sits upon (在……之上) the sea. It was the place of our last school trip. The trip was very exciting at first, because everything was new to me.
On that day, we got up early and jumped onto the boats. As the boat started, snow-white water came out from below the boat. Firstly, we arrived at one island, called the Island of the Lady, because the mountains look like a beautiful lady. As the weather was nice, I spent half an hour playing with my classmates in the water. It was really fun and exciting. Everything was fine until one of my water shoes fell into the lake. So I had to go on the trip with only one shoe on.
When we first walked through the forest, I thought it was a nice walk. But with only one shoe, my foot came across either cold glass pieces or hot stones along the way. As the day went on, the land became increasingly jagged (凹凸不平的). I winced (皱起脸) with every step I took. It was a trip of pain (痛苦). But then something magical happened. I suddenly found a pretty seashell. It seemed like gold and all the pain was gone.
Luckily, there was still something wonderful. The beautiful sea views and the special seashell were really unforgettable for me. I’ve learned an important lesson from that day, which is to not worry about the bad memories, but instead to remember the cheerful feelings and enjoy them.

a. The writer had a walk in the forest.
b. The writer found a beautiful seashell.

B.Bad memories can never stop good feelings.
C.Malaysia is a wonderful place to visit.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.B 4.B

My family members have a close relationship because our family has some rules. My mother makes it a rule that everyone must sit down at the table and have dinner together. I think this is one of the easiest and the most important rules to have as a family. Eating meals together creates a sense of belonging. What’s more, keeping this habit will increase everyone’s enjoyment.
Although it was hard for us to keep this routine at first, it has turned out to be a good habit. After dinner we usually have our playtime, and then 7:00 p.m. is the bath time. 7:30 p.m. is time to have some milk. At 7:50 p.m. my mother reads a story, and then lights go out at 8:00 p.m. This routine makes me wake up early in the morning and helps me be in a good mood (情绪) at school.
Cleaning up is a family matter. After dinner we help our parents to clean up the kitchen and clear everything of the table. After this, we are asked to clean up the toys that we were playing with during the daytime. Then we won’t step on hard or wooden toys when we get up next morning.
________, and I never wake up in a rush in the morning. Even when there are special occasions—like my dad having to work late and come home later than usual—mom always keeps some food warm for him. When dad gets back, we’ll reheat the dishes a little, then sit around the table again to have a “late dinner” together. Even if we just chat about small things that happened during the day, my heart feels warm and full.
These simple family rules are like soft threads—they tie our family closely together, and every day is filled with a sense of safety and happiness.
1.The writer’s mother makes a rule of ________ at home.
A.eating dinner together B.living together
C.having snacks before bedtime D.cleaning up the garden
2.The second rule in the writer’s family should be a ________
A.everyday routineB.working routine C.night-time routine D.free-time routine
3.What can we learn from the “Cleaning up” part?
A.Cleaning up is only kids’ job. B.They clean up toys before dinner.
C.Everyone in the family helps with cleaning. D.They clean the kitchen but not the table.
4.Which of the following can be put in ________?
A.It makes me feel energetic every day B.It’s not easy for me to keep it
C.The routine makes me feel bad D.It is hard to get up
5.Which is the best title for the text?

C.Family Life: Dinner and Clean-up D.How to Develop Good Habits at Home
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.C 4.A 5.A

Trees are one of the oldest plants on our Earth. They keep our air clean, make less pollution, make water cleaner and provide (提供) food and building materials.
Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At one to three years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns (刺) to stop animals from going near.
At the age of four years old, trees begin to grow very quickly and become strong enough to face many difficulties later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults (成年人). They grow more slowly and begin to produce (生长) flowers and fruit.
When the tree is 20 to 25 years old, it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. It gives us shade and provides a great place for a tree house, or a place for us to read a book, listen to music and so on. If we all learn how to protect the adult tree, it will live healthily for many years.
Little by little, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, older trees are still very important in nature. When a tree becomes hollow or part of it dies, it can be a home to small animals.
In many ways, the life of a tree is similar to our own life. When looking at the life of a tree, we should enjoy every minute of its life and take care of the tree!

4.What can we infer (推测) from this article?
A.We can find flowers and fruit on 4-year-old trees.
B.An adult tree can live long and well if we all learn how to protect it.
C.Older trees can be great places for people to live.
D.The life of the tree is the same as the life of people.

On the side of the road in the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve in Qinghai Province, you might see a fat wolf. It wags its tail in front of the passing cars. It hopes to get a meal.
However, the wolf was skin and bones a few months ago. It’s said that the old hungry wolf was forced to leave the wolf pack because it was not good at hunting. But that all changed after a passing driver gave it two pies and posted a video of it online. The video made the wolf very popular, and a lot of people came to the area to provide it with food.
Since then, the wolf has given up its hunting instinct (本能) and turned to passers-by for snacks. The snacks are high in oil, sugar and salt, such as pies, roasted chicken and sausages. Later, more wolves have joined this behaviour. The wolf’s change makes it look like a pet dog. But the change means that it is losing its ability to live in nature, and that may cause the wild animal to die.
In fact, it is common for wild animals like wolves and bears to be fed near the roads in provinces. Have you eaten a “China burger” yet? In recent years, “China Burger” fast food restaurants have opened and become more and more popular. Although they go by different names, like Tastien and Ranxiong, they are like McDonald’s, KFC or Burger King, but more Chinese.
I wanted to try something special from Tastien. So a few days ago, I got a Peking duck burger with a drink.
When I got my food, I loved the packaging (包装). The paper bag and boxes came in red, white and blue colors. They also had the words “Made in China” on them. The burger is pretty good. It has the Peking duck meat with some cucumber, lettuce and plum sauce. I really like their freshly made bread. It’s better than the bread from other brands. Although the Chinese bread used was not perfect, the China Burger gave people a more Chinese taste. It opens the door for me to try more different burgers. I’d still like to eat more from this and other China Burger restaurants in the future.
Tastien started selling burgers in 2017, but since then it has grown fast. With its slogan (标语) of “Chinese stomachs (胃) love Chinese burgers,” Tastien now has over 5,400 stores, making it the fourth-largest burger chain in China. A Tastien customer (顾客) spends just 19 yuan for every meal, far less than that spent at McDonald’s and KFC. And these “Chinese burgers” are often on sale for as little as 7 yuan.
The popularity also has something to do with a growing sense of national pride (民族自豪感) among Chinese consumers. Chinese products are getting more fans and young Chinese consumers think “Made in China” is not bad at all.
1.A Tastien customer (顾客) often spends ___________ yuan for these “Chinese burgers”.
A.19 B.7 C.26 D.12
2.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT right about the food from Tastien?
A.The paper bag and boxes are in red, white, and blue.
B.There aren’t any words on the packaging.
C.You can have Peking duck meat in the burger.
D.The bread is freshly made.
3.In Paragraph 4, the writer mentions (提及) McDonald’s and KFC to show ___________.
A.food from Tastien is very cheap B.Tastien is more popular than them
C.the burger from Tastien tastes much better D.food from Tastien is always on sale
4.What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A.The writer would like to try food from Ranxiong in the future.

C.Tastien will be the largest burger chain in China.
D.Most young people don’t think Chinese products are good.

①What will the world of tomorrow be like? Many people today believe that technology (科技) is going to help solve some problems we have today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect. Each has advantages and disadvantages. Here are three examples.
②When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own flying cars. We could fly at 480km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, if too many flying cars are in the air, there will be trouble with traffic control.
③3-D printing is another new technology for the future. 3-D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts (部件), and man-made body parts, like ears. As we move into the future, 3-D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
④Finally, people are trying to make a robot suit (套装). This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, one disadvantage at the moment is the cost.
⑤It is easy to imagine a future. We will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people's life easier and safer, and it can solve some of the most difficult problems we have today.

How to Make a Great Self-Introduction
A good self-introduction helps people know you better and makes a nice first impression. Here are some tips to make yours great:
1. Keep it short and clear. Don’t talk for too long. A 1-2 minute introduction is enough. Focus on the most important things, like your name, hobbies, and one interesting fact about yourself.
2. Be honest and real: Don’t make up stories to impress others. Sharing small, true things (like “I love feeding stray cats after school”) makes you more friendly and relatable.
3. Smile and make eye contact: When you speak, smile at the people listening. Look at them instead of looking down—this shows you’re confident and polite.
4. Talk about your hobbies or dreams: Telling others what you like to do (e.g., “I play the guitar every weekend”) or what you want to be (e.g., “I hope to be a doctor one day”) helps them find common interests with you.
5. Ask a question at the end: This keeps the conversation going. For example, “I love reading science books. Do you have any favorite books?”
Remember, practice makes perfect. Try practising your introduction in front of a mirror or with a friend. Soon, you’ll be able to introduce yourself easily and confidently!
1.How long should a good self-introduction be?

B.Practising can help us introduce ourselves better.

Cindy, Jenny and Mary are talking about what a good friend should be like.

Tom came to his teacher and asked him, “Sir, I have a question. How many friends should a person have-one or many?”
“It is very simple,” the teacher answered. “Get me that red apple from the highest branch of the tree.”
Tom looked up and said, “It’s too high. I can’t reach it.”
“Ask a friend. Maybe he can help,” the teacher suggested.

On a cool summer night, Jiang Yao, a student from a university (大学), was walking at Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo, the home to more than 3,000 animals. Some fireflies (萤火虫) flew around him. The beautiful fireflies gave Jiang a special feeling and he knew it was his dream (梦想) place to work. After finishing university, Jiang became a zoo keeper there.
Jiang’s love for animals started early when he was a child. He often helped save animals when they were in danger. On his first day at the forest zoo, Jiang cleaned the bird houses. He tried to do it with care because he didn’t want to scare the birds. Later, he went to work at the animal rescue (救援) center at the zoo. One of the rescued animals under Jiang’s care was an African spurred tortoise (非洲盾臂龟). With the development (发展) of technology (科技), education is changing. The classroom of the future will not be the same as the classroom of today. So what will the future classroom be like? Let’s try to find it out.
There will be no blackboard in the classroom. Students will take classes by looking at their touch-screen (触摸屏的) desks. And doing homework, writing down notes, and taking tests will be just a click away (点击鼠标即可). The walls of the classroom will also be full of screens.
In the coming years, students and teachers will not be studying face-to-face at school. Teachers and students can get into a virtual classroom, but in real life, they may be sitting on the sofa at home. The experience will be like being in a real classroom. Students can also “visit” historical places, see the geography of the planet, “travel” around the world, and much more.

4.What would be the best structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
