They stand facing each other, grabbing shoulders, each trying to make the other lose balance. This is part of their daily training. Bokh is deeply rooted in the traditional herding lifestyle and is a valued cultural practice that shows the history, values, and spirit of the people. It is one of the “Three Manly Skills” of the Mongolian people, along with horse racing and archery. Bokh represents endurance, strength, and honor. Urbuusan has practiced this sport for twenty years. His skill has earned him more than ten competition titles. This is a legacy (传承) that Degjiin eagerly carries on. Since he was 6, he has been copying his father’s moves, learning special holds and throws. Now he is a young wrestler in his own right. Urbuusan has encouraged this interest. Since Degiiin’s eighth birthday, he has taken his son to compete across the region. At home, a wall covered with shining medals shows Degjin’s hard work and progress. Last year, Degiin won gold at a youth tournament in Chifeng that had 255 wrestlers. Besides a gold medal, he received a white horse as a prize. Now a fifth-grader, Degjiin treasures daily practice with his father. He has joined the school’s Bokh club to improve his skills and is focused on upcoming games. The dream of competing on a bigger stage drives his training. “Whenever Dad is home, I can’t wait to train with him,” Degjiin says. His proud father adds, “Degiin wants to become a well-known Mongolian wrestler. I’ll keep wrestling with him, as long as it makes him happy.” 1.According to the passage, what is the nature of Bokh? A.A school activity for children. B.A riding technique used in horse racing. C.A modern competitive sport popular in cities. D.A traditional skill representing Mongolian culture. 2.What can we infer about Urbuusan’s attitude towards Degjiin’s practice of Bokh? A.Objective. B.Supportive. C.Cautious. D.Demanding. 3.What is the main reason why Degjiin continues his Bokh training? A.The prizes and medals he wins. B.His goal to master all “Three Manly Skills”. C.His duty to carry on his father’s unfinished legacy. D.His ambition to compete in higher-level competitions. 4.What is the main idea of the passage? A.The history of Mongolian wrestling. B.The training methods of a professional wrestler. C.A father and son’s bond through Mongolian wrestling. D.The role of Bokh training in modern school education. 根据第二段“Bokh is deeply rooted in the traditional herding lifestyle and is a valued cultural practice that shows the history, values, and spirit of the people. It is one of the “Three Manly Skills” of the Mongolian people, along with horse racing and archery. Bokh represents endurance, strength, and honor.(Bokh深深植根于传统的放牧生活方式,是一种珍贵的文化实践,展现了蒙古族的历史、价值观和精神。它是蒙古族“三大男子技能”之一,与赛马和射箭并列。Bokh代表耐力、力量和荣誉。)”可知,Bokh是一种代表蒙古族文化的传统技能。故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据第四段“Urbuusan has encouraged this interest. Since Degiiin’s eighth birthday, he has taken his son to compete across the region. At home, a wall covered with shining medals shows Degjin’s hard work and progress.(Urbuusan鼓励了这种兴趣。自从Degiiin八岁生日以来,他就带着儿子去各地参加比赛。在家里,一面挂满闪亮奖牌的墙展示了Degjiin的努力和进步。)”可知,Urbuusan对Degjiin练习Bokh持支持态度。故选B。 3.细节理解题。根据倒数第三段“Now a fifth-grader, Degjiin treasures daily practice with his father. He has joined the school’s Bokh club to improve his skills and is focused on upcoming games. The dream of competing on a bigger stage drives his training.(现在是一名五年级学生的Degjiin非常珍惜和父亲一起的日常训练。他加入了学校的Bokh俱乐部来提高自己的技能,并专注于即将到来的比赛。在更大的舞台上比赛的梦想驱动着他的训练。)”可知,Degjiin继续他的Bokh训练的主要原因是他渴望参加更高级别的比赛。故选D。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“In the wide grasslands of Inner Mongolia, herder (牧人) Urbuusan and his 12-year-old son Degjiin practice Mongolian wrestling, known as Bokh. They stand facing each other, grabbing shoulders, each trying to make the other lose balance. This is part of their daily training.(在内蒙古广阔的草原上,牧人Urbuusan和他12岁的儿子Degjiin正在练习蒙古式摔跤,即Bokh。他们面对面站着,抓住对方的肩膀,试图让对方失去平衡。这是他们日常训练的一部分。)”以及结合全文内容可知,文章主要讲述了内蒙古牧人Urbuusan和他12岁的儿子Degjiin通过蒙古式摔跤(Bokh)建立了深厚的父子情谊,以及Degjiin对更高水平比赛的追求。故选C。 Many people wonder when the best time to exercise is. Experts have different opinions about morning, evening and afternoon workouts. To explore these differences further, let’s look at the benefits of exercising at different times of the day. Dr. Jagim from Mayo Clinic Health System says, “Morning workouts make you feel like you do something good and start the day on a happy note.” After a morning workout, people feel good because of endorphins (内啡肽). Also, mornings are usually free from other things to do, allowing people to enjoy their afternoons and evenings without worrying about exercise. For morning workouts, Dr. Jagim says, “Eating a varied breakfast with carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats is important. This gives energy for the workout.” “However, for some people, waking up early to exercise is the last thing they feel like doing, and therefore, the case for evening workouts is more attractive. Your body works best in the early evening.” says Jake Erickson, a sports medicine specialist. “This is a good time to exercise. During this time, your body has time to wake up a bit by moving around throughout the day. Also, your body uses oxygen better in the evening. This helps you use your energy more efficiently when you exercise.” A study with over 90,000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening. This is especially true for older people. Dr. Gende, emergency physician at Mayo Clinic Health System, says that morning workouts might not be good for people who work late shifts or stay up late. For them, it’s better to sleep more in the morning and then do a workout in the middle of the day or early afternoon before their next shift. While science gives ideas, experts agree the best time matches personal plans and energy. Consistency is more important than timing. 1.What does Dr. Jagim recommend for morning workouts? A.Taking in more fats. B.Having a healthy breakfast C.Drinking enough water. D.Avoiding staying up late the night before. 2.What might Jake Erickson agree with? A.Early evening workouts suit late risers. B.The later night exercisers wake up, the better. C.All people’s bodies work best in the late evening. D.Morning workouts set a positive tone for night workers. 3.Which group benefits most from afternoon workouts according to the study? A.Young women. B.Teenagers C.Children. D.Older people 4.Which of the following is the best title for the text? A.When is the Best Time to Exercise? B.What is Important for a Healthy Body? C.What Role Does Food Play During Workouts? D.Why is Evening Exercise Good for Everyone? 【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段中“For morning workouts, Dr. Jagim says, ‘Eating a varied breakfast with carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats is important. This gives energy for the workout.’(贾吉姆博士表示,对于晨练来说,‘吃一顿包含碳水化合物、蛋白质和健康脂肪的多样化早餐非常重要,这能为锻炼提供能量。’)” 根据第三段中“However, for some people, waking up early to exercise is the last thing they feel like doing, and therefore, the case for evening workouts is more attractive. Your body works best in the early evening.” says Jake Erickson, a sports medicine specialist.(运动医学专家杰克・埃里克森说:“然而,对有些人来说,早起锻炼是他们最不想做的事,因此,傍晚锻炼更有吸引力。你的身体在傍晚早些时候状态最佳。”)可知,埃里克森认为傍晚锻炼适合不想早起的人(即晚起者)。故选A。 3. 根据第四段中“A study with over 90,000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening. A。 If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock. According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all. Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1,000 joggers (慢跑者) and non-joggers for 12 years. The death rates from the sample group indicate (表明) that people who jog at a proper pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die. The best speed to jog at was found to be about 5 miles per hour. The research suggests that people who jog more than three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7 mph die at the same rate as non-joggers. The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural (结构上的) changes to the heart and arteries (动脉). Over time, this can cause serious injuries. Peter Schnohr, a researcher in Copenhagen, said, “If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy (寿命), jogging a few times a week at a proper pace is a good strategy. Anything more is not just unnecessary, and it may be harmful.” The implications (暗示) of this are that moderate (适度的) forms of exercise such as tai chi, yoga and walking may be better for us than “iron man events, triathlons and long-distance running and cycling. According to Jacob Louis Marott, another researcher involved in the study, “You don’ t actually have to do that much to have a good impact (影响) on your health. And perhaps you shouldn’t actually do too much”. 1.The underlined word “strenuous” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “______”. A.regular B.hard C.practical D.fluent 2.The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 to ______. A.suggest giving up jogging B.show risks of doing sports C.provide supportive evidence D.introduce the research process 3.According to the scientists, why is too much exercise harmful? A.It may injure the heart and arteries. B.It can make the body tired out. C.It will bring much pressure. D.It consumes too much energy. 4.What can be inferred (推断) from the text? A.No exercise at all is the best choice. B.More exercise means a healthier life. C.Marathons runners are least likely to die. D.Proper exercise contributes to good health. 【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,通过丹麦科学家的研究表明,过度剧烈运动与不运动的死亡风险相当,适度且有节奏的运动才更有利于健康。 1.词句猜测题。根据第一段中的“If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock (如果你认为跑马拉松会帮助你过上长寿健康的生活,一项新的研究可能会让你大吃一惊)”可知,人们一般认为马拉松会帮助我们过上健康长寿的生活,但新的研究结果不是这样。那些从事strenuous workout的人和根本不做运动的人死亡可能性一样。由此猜测“strenuous workout”指像跑马拉松一样强度大的运动,因此strenuous意为“剧烈的、高强度的”,与hard(费力的、剧烈的)。故选B项。 2.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a proper pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die (样本组的死亡率表明,每周以适当速度慢跑两到三次、总时长少于两个半小时的人死亡风险最低)”可知,作者列出“每周两到三次”“少于两个半小时”“每小时5英里”等数据,是为了给研究结论提供有力证据。故选C项。 3.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural (结构上的) changes to the heart and arteries (动脉). (科学家们认为,这是因为剧烈运动导致心脏和动脉发生结构变化)”可知,过度运动有害是因为它可能损伤心脏和动脉。故选A项。 4.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy, jogging a few times a week at a proper pace is a good strategy (如果你的目标是降低死亡风险并提高预期寿命,每周以适当速度慢跑几次是个不错的策略)”可知,适度的运动有助于身体健康。故选D项。 We all know that exercise is good for our body. It helps us build a strong heart and keep a healthy weight. But did you know that exercise is also great for your brain? Recent studies show that physical activity can actually change the brain in some amazing ways, making us think better and feel happier. The first change is about the brain’s ability to learn and remember. When we exercise, our heart sends more blood to the brain, carrying oxygen and important food. This helps the brain cells grow and become stronger. Scientists have found that a part of the brain called the hippocampus (海马体), which is very important for memory, gets larger in people who exercise often. This means these people may find it easier to learn new things and get higher scores on tests. Besides a better memory, exercise is also a powerful way to improve our mood. During and after physical activity, the brain produces more “feel-good” chemicals. These natural brain chemicals help to reduce feelings of worry and stress. You don’t need to run a long way to get the result. Even a short walk or some simple sports can make you feel more relaxed and happy. So, how can you add more exercise to your life? You don’t have to be an athlete. The key is to find an activity you enjoy. It could be walking or riding a bike to school, joining a dance club, or just playing ball games with friends in the park. Try to be active for at least 30 minutes most days. In short, exercise is not just about building a healthy body. It is also one of the most effective ways to build a healthier, happier, and smarter brain. Next time when you need a break from study, perhaps going out for some exercise is the best choice. 1.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Exercise is the best way to build a strong body. B.Exercise has great effects on brain as it does on body. C.Students should spend more time playing sports. D.The hippocampus is the most important part of the brain. 2.According to Paragraph 2, how does exercise help us learn better? A.By making us feel happier and more relaxed. B.By helping brain cells grow stronger in the hippocampus. C.By allowing the heart to send less blood to the brain. D.By making us want to learn new things. 3.How does exercise help to improve our mood? A.By bringing more blood and oxygen to the brain during physical activity. B.By helping our brain learn new things and remember information better. C.By making the hippocampus, an important part for memory, become larger. D.By producing natural brain chemicals that reduce feelings of worry and stress. 4.What does the author suggest for adding exercise to our life? A.We must become excellent athletes. B.We should run a long way every day. C.We need to find an activity we enjoy. D.We have to join a school sports team. 【答案】1.B 2.B 3.D 4.C 【导语】这是一篇说明文,介绍运动不仅对身体有益,还能以惊人方式改变大脑,具体阐述了运动对大脑学习记忆能力和情绪的积极影响,并给出了增加运动的建议,强调运动能打造更健康、快乐且聪明的大脑。 1.主旨大意题。根据第一段“We all know that exercise is good for our body. It helps us build a strong heart and keep a healthy weight. But did you know that exercise is also great for your brain? Recent studies show that physical activity can actually change the brain in some amazing ways, making us think better and feel happier. (我们都知道运动对身体有益。它有助于我们拥有强健的心脏并保持健康的体重。但你知道运动对大脑也非常有益吗?最近的研究表明,体育锻炼实际上能以一些惊人的方式改变大脑,让我们思维更清晰、心情更愉悦)”及最后一段“In short, exercise is not just about building a healthy body. It is also one of the most effective ways to build a healthier, happier, and smarter brain (总之,运动不仅仅是为了塑造健康的身体。它也是打造更健康、更快乐、更聪明大脑的最有效方式之一)”可知,文章核心是说明运动对大脑和对身体一样有很大益处。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“When we exercise, our heart sends more blood to the brain, carrying oxygen and important food. This helps the brain cells grow and become stronger. Scientists have found that a part of the brain called the hippocampus (海马体), which is very important for memory, gets larger in people who exercise often. This means these people may find it easier to learn new things and get higher scores on tests. (当我们运动时,心脏会向大脑输送更多血液,携带氧气和重要的营养物质。这有助于大脑细胞生长并变得更强健。科学家发现,大脑中一个对记忆至关重要的部分——海马体,在经常运动的人脑中会更大。这意味着这些人可能更容易学习新事物,考试成绩也更高)”可知,运动通过帮助海马体中的脑细胞变得更强健,从而让我们学习更好。故选B。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段“Besides a better memory, exercise is also a powerful way to improve our mood. During and after physical activity, the brain produces more “feel-good” chemicals. These natural brain chemicals help to reduce feelings of worry and stress. (除了改善记忆,运动也是改善情绪的有效方式。在运动过程中及运动后,大脑会产生更多“让人感觉良好”的化学物质。这些大脑天然产生的化学物质有助于减轻焦虑和压力感)”可知,运动通过产生能减轻焦虑和压力的天然大脑化学物质来改善情绪。故选D。 4.推理判断题。根据第四段“So, how can you add more exercise to your life? You don’t have to be an athlete. The key is to find an activity you enjoy. (那么,如何在生活中增加运动量呢?你不必成为运动员。关键是找到一项你喜欢的活动)”可知,作者建议我们找到一项自己喜欢的活动来增加运动量。故选C。 The 2025 Leeds Football Festival ★The 5th Leeds Middle School Football Tournament will take place on August 20, at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three matches, and matches will be officiated by professional referees.(该赛事有来自当地学校和社区中心的球队参赛,包括知名的利兹联足球俱乐部和利兹城市学院队。 故选A项。 With less than ten seconds remaining, the ball suddenly rolled in front of my son’s teammate Mickey O’Donnel. With shouts of “Kick it” echoing across the playground, Mickey turned around and gave it everything he had. All around me the crowd erupted. He had scored. Then everything came to a standstill. Mickey had scored all right, but in the wrong goal ending the game in a tie. For a moment there was a deathly hush. You see, Mickey has Down syndrome (唐氏综合征) and for him there is no such thing as a wrong goal. All goals were celebrated by a joyous hug from Mickey. He had even been known to hug the opposing players when they scored. The silence was finally broken when Mickey, his face filled with joy, hugged my son tightly and shouted, “I scored! I scored! Everybody won! Everybody won!” For a moment I held my breath, not sure how my son would react. I need not have worried. I watched, through tears, as my son threw up his hand in the classic high-five salute and started chanting, “Way to go Mickey! Way to go Mickey!” Within moments both teams surrounded Mickey, joined in the chant and congratulated him on his goal. Later that night, when my daughter asked who had won, I smiled as I replied, “It was a tie. Everybody won.” 1.What does the underlined word “hush” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Cheer. B.Silence. C.Laughter. D.Cry. 2.What did the author worry about when Mickey scored and hugged his son? A.The result would disappoint his son. B.Mickey would again hug the opposing players. C.His son would shout at Mickey for the wrong goal. D.The opposite team would laugh at Mickey’s wrong, goal. 3.What can be inferred from the passage? A.Mickey scored in the wrong goal on purpose. B.All the players didn’t care about the result at all. C.Both teams showed kindness and respect to Mickey. D.The opposing players were thankful for Mickey’s goal. 4.What is the author’s purpose of writing this passage? A.To tell a joke to make readers laugh. B.To suggest we should not mind losing. C.To present his son’s fine quality of understanding others. D.To show a kind heart is more important than winning a game. 根据第三段中“Then everything came to a standstill. Mickey had scored all right, but in the wrong goal ending the game in a tie. For a moment there was a deathly hush.(然后一切都停滞了。米奇确实得分了,但射错了球门,比赛以平局结束。有那么一瞬间,死一般的hush)”和常识可知,Mickey射错了球门,是乌龙球,一时间,大家都愣住了,所以比赛现场变得非常安静。由此可推知,划线词hush在此处意为“寂静,安静”,与B项“silence”同义。故选B项。 2.推理判断题。根据第三段中“Then everything came to a standstill. Mickey had scored all right, but in the wrong goa ending the game in a tie. For a moment there was a deathly hush.(然后一切都停滞了。Mickey确实得分了,但射错了球门,比赛以平局结束。有那么一瞬间,死一般的沉寂)”和第四段中“The silence was finally broken when Mickey, his face filled with joy, hugged my son tightly and shouted, “I scored! I scored! Everybody won! Everybody won!” For a moment I held my breath, not sure how my son would react.(沉寂终于被打破——Mickey脸上绽放着灿烂的笑容,紧紧抱住我儿子喊道:“我进球了!我进球了!大家都赢了!大家都赢了”那一瞬间我屏住呼吸,不知儿子会作何反应)”可知,Mickey射错了球门,让本来应该赢的比赛变成了平局,还拥抱作者的儿子庆祝。由此推知,作者担心儿子会因为Mickey射错球门而生气,并对他大喊大叫。故选C项。 3.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Within moments both teams surrounded Mickey, joined in the chant and congratulated him on his goal.(不一会儿,两队都围住了米奇,一起欢呼,祝贺他进球)”可知,两队都围住米奇,一起欢呼,祝贺他进球,没有人因为Mickey进错球门而责怪他。 通读全文,结合根据第四段中“Within moments both teams surrounded Mickey, joined in the chant and congratulated him on his goal.(不一会儿,两队都围住了米奇,一起欢呼,祝贺他进球)”和最后一段中“Later that night, when my daughter asked who had won, I smiled as I replied, “It was a tie. Everybody won.”(那天晚上晚些时候,当我女儿问谁赢了时,我笑着回答说:“平局。大家都赢了。”)”可知,在比赛中,患有唐氏综合征的Mickey射错了球门,让本来应该赢的比赛变成了平局,但大家都没有计较,而是共同庆祝,表现出了大家对Mickey的善良和尊重。作者通过这个故事想要传达的是善良和包容比比赛的输赢更重要。故选D项。 Many people wonder when the best time to exercise is. Experts have different opinions about morning, evening and afternoon workouts (锻炼). Jagim says, “Eating a varied breakfast with carbohydrates (淀粉质食物), protein, and healthy fats is important. This gives energy for the workout.” “However, for some people, waking up early to exercise is the last thing they feel like doing, and therefore, the case for evening workouts is more attractive. Your body works best in the early evening,” says Jake Erickson, a sports medicine expert. “This is a good time to exercise. During this time, your body has time to wake up a bit by moving around throughout the day. Also, your body uses oxygen better in the evening. This helps you use your energy more efficiently (高效地) when you exercise.” A study with over 90,000 people found that exercising in the afternoon is better for your heart and helps you live longer than exercising in the morning or evening. This is especially true for older people. Dr. Gende at Mayo Clinic Health System says that morning workouts might not be good for people who work late shifts or stay up late. For them, it’s better to sleep more in the morning and then do a workout in the middle of the day or early afternoon before their next shift. While science gives ideas, experts agree the best time matches personal plans and energy. Keeping exercising is more important than timing. 1.What does Dr. Jagim suggest for morning workouts? A.Taking in more fats. B.Drinking enough water. C.Having a healthy breakfast. D.Avoiding staying up late. 2.What might Jake Erickson agree with? A.Evening workouts suit late risers better. B.The later night exercisers wake up, the better. C.Morning workouts benefit night workers a lot. D.All people’s bodies work best in the late evening. 3.Which group benefits most from afternoon workouts according to paragraph 4? A.Older people. B.Teenagers. C.Children. D.Young women. 4.Where is this passage most probably taken from? A.A cook book. B.A health magazine. C.A sportsman’s diary. When does Senegal rank above Japan, or Nigeria above Austria? In what international arena do New Caledonia and Palestine share equal status with global superpowers? The answer is football — a sport that brings joy to billions, despite flaws in its leadership. These reflections came to me while watching the Women’s World Cup in Australia. Although the home team, the Matildas, received well-deserved attention, it was Morocco’s team that captured my interest. Against all odds, they had advanced to the knockout stage and were competing against France — a former colonial power with greater wealth and population. Football, ironically invented in Britain during its imperial peak, has evolved into one of the world’s most decolonized (非殖民化) sports. While wealthier countries still hold certain advantages, football remains a near-meritocracy where determination and skill can level the global playing field. This led me to draw a sobering (使深思的) comparison with literature. As France defeated Morocco 4-0,I realized I had never read a book by a Moroccan author — nor could I name one. Morocco is a nation of 37 million people with ancient traditions and a vibrant culture, yet its literary voices remained unknown to me. My concern deepened as I considered other World Cup participants like Brazil, Zambia, and South Korea — I had not read authors from these nations either. Hoping for guidance, I turned to a famous “1001 Books You Must Read” guide, only to discover an overwhelming lack of diversity: over 500 works were by authors from the U. S. and U. K., while entire continents were scarcely represented. Africa had only 24 entries, Asia 30 (none from China), and Latin America just 15. Literature, often celebrated as progressive and inclusive, remains constrained (强迫的) by colonial legacy. Most published writers are white, English-speaking, and affiliated (使隶属) with major publishers in London and New York. Shouldn’t literature be as inclusive as football? 1.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph? A.List unusual international rankings. B.Introduce football’s underdog success. C.Criticize football organizations’ leadership. D.Compare countries’ economic strengths. 2.Why was the author particularly interested in the Moroccan football team? A.They were the home team. B.They defeated France easily. C.They succeeded against expectations. D.They had a large population. 3.What did the author find about the “1001 Books You Must Read” guide? A.Dominated by English-speaking works. B.Equal books from each continent. C.Mainly Moroccan and Chinese authors. D.Too many football-related books. 4.What is the author’s tone in the passage? A.Indifferent. B.Critical. C.Approving. D.Humorous. 根据第一段“In what field does Mexico outperform the United States? Most published writers are white, English-speaking, and affiliated with major publishers in London and New York. Shouldn’t literature be as inclusive as football?(文学通常被视为进步和包容的,但仍然受到殖民遗产的束缚。大多数出版作家都是白人、说英语,并与伦敦和纽约的主要出版商有联系。文学难道不应该像足球一样包容吗?)”可知,作者通过对比足球的公平性与文学界的西方中心主义,对现行文学出版体系缺乏多样性表示不满,并在末段用反问句强化批判立场。故选B。 From wearable devices to smartphones, it has never been easier for us to track our daily physical activity, or lack of it. But just how much should we aim for if we want to live a longer and healthier life? Two recent studies suggest that walking 7,000 steps per day is a good target. “Specifically, our research shows that the decreased risk of dying appeared to plateau out at about 7,000 steps,” says Melody Ding, a professor of public health at the University of Sydney, who is the latest researcher to dive into the evidence, as part of an effort to update the physical activity guideline in her country. “There were still some improvements for those who took more than 7,000 steps, but the added health benefits across the population became smaller and smaller.” Ding’s team reviewed data collected from more than 160,000 adults around the world on the link between step count and a variety of health outcomes. Here was one of the key findings: Taking 7,000 steps per day was associated with nearly a 50% lower risk of dying, compared with the bare minimum of 2,000 steps. “It definitely doesn’t do harm if you go beyond 7,000,” Ding adds. “So for anyone who’s already doing 10,000 and more, there is no point of going back, but for the folks who are finding it hard to get there,7,000 could be a really realistic target.” Ding’s research also shows that, on the lower end, even modest jumps can have a major impact on our well-being. For example, simply jumping from 2,000 to 4,000 times in a day was accompanied by nearly a 36% lower risk of dying. Ding and her team have also tried to pin down whether speed makes a difference. Here, the new study could not make any definitive conclusion. “We actually didn’t see an association once we considered the total number of steps,” says Ding. “So, essentially, the total number of steps or jumps, regardless of how fast they were doing, seemed to have a benefit,” she says. Amanda Paluch, who has been working on step count and health benefits, has reached a similar conclusion, though her work suggests the targets may also vary with age. “We were seeing that old people did not seem to need as many steps compared to young adults,” says Paluch. 1.Which of the following best explains “plateau out” underlined in paragraph 2? A.Fall down rapidly. B.Increase very slowly. C.Rise very sharply. D.Come to a sudden stop. 2.What will Melody Ding most probably advise us to do? A.Take 4,000 steps per day. B.Reduce the daily count to 10,000 steps. C.Jump 7,000 times each day. D.Do a minimum of 2,000 jumps a day. 3.What can be ignored according to text? A.Age. B.Health. C.Walking speeds. D.Step targets. 4.Which word best describes Paluch’s attitude to the other study? A.Positive. B.Doubtful. C.Critical. D.Unclear. 根据第二段中“Specifically, our research shows that the decreased risk of dying appeared to plateau out at about 7,000 steps(具体来说,我们的研究表明,死亡风险的降低在大约7000步时似乎plateau out)”以及“There were still some improvements for those who took more than 7,000 steps, but the added health benefits across the population became smaller and smaller.(对于步数超过7000步的人来说,仍有一些改善,但整个人群的额外健康益处越来越小。)” 根据第五段中“Ding’s research also shows that, on the lower end, even modest jumps can have a major impact on our well-being. For example, simply jumping from 2,000 to 4,000 times in a day was accompanied by nearly a 36% lower risk of dying.(Ding的研究还表明,在低端,即使是适度的跳跃也会对我们的健康产生重大影响。例如,一天从跳跃2000次增加到4000次,死亡风险降低了近36%。)可知,Melody Ding可能会鼓励我们每天至少跳2,000下。故选D。 3.细节理解题。根据第六段“Ding and her team have also tried to pin down whether speed makes a difference. Here, the new study could not make any definitive conclusion.(Ding和她的团队还试图确定速度是否会产生影响。在这方面,新的研究无法得出任何明确的结论。)”以及““So, essentially, the total number of steps or jumps, regardless of how fast they were doing, seemed to have a benefit,” she says.(“所以,本质上,步数或跳跃的总数,无论他们做得有多快,似乎都有好处,”她说。)”可知,步行速度可以被忽略。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Amanda Paluch, who has been working on step count and health benefits, has reached a similar conclusion, though her work suggests the targets may also vary with age.(Amanda Paluch一直在研究步数和健康益处,她得出了类似的结论,尽管她的研究表明目标也可能因年龄而异。)”可知,Paluch对另一项研究持积极态度。故选A。 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ Unit 2 Be Sporty,Be Healthy 单元话题阅读理解练习 Unit 2 Be Sporty,Be Healthy单元话题:运动与健康 本资料共10篇专题训练,从上到下依次按照难度分为基础语篇巩固练和重难语篇提升练 基础语篇巩固练 This Fall, It’s All Gas, No Excuses! In the wide grasslands of Inner Mongolia, herder (牧人) Urbuusan and his 12-year-old son Degjiin practice Mongolian wrestling, known as Bokh. If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock. We all know that exercise is good for our body. With less than ten seconds remaining, the ball suddenly rolled in front of my son’s teammate Mickey O’Donnel. Experts have different opinions about morning, evening and afternoon workouts (锻炼). D.Humorous. From wearable devices to smartphones, it has never been easier for us to track our daily physical activity, or lack of it. A.Positive. B.Doubtful. C.Critical. D.Unclear. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
