Text 1
W: What’s up, John? Why the long face? Aren’t you satisfied with the test results?
M: I could have done better. Well, maybe next time …
Text 2
M: Are you sure about everything tomorrow? I don’t want to get caught in a shower there, right in the middle of the park.
W: Relax. It’s going to be fine. I’ve checked the weather and prepared all the snacks. We’re leaving at 9:00 sharp.
Text 3
W: Will you let me drive today?
M: I know you got your driving licence one year ago, but have you done any practice recently?
W: No, but I promise I won’t damage your car.
Text 4
W: The supermarket downstairs is closed. I will need to dig into the fridge to make a simple dinner.
M: Wouldn’t it be easier to go to a Chinese restaurant?
W: Yes! Check which one is open nearby.
Text 5
M: Well, I think the party has started. We wasted too much time on the way.
W: The invitation says the party starts at 2:00 p.m. We still have 10 minutes.
M: But look here, it says all participants must enter 15 minutes in advance.
W: Oh no.
Text 6
W: Look at this house. It looks fantastic!
M: Oh, yeah. I bet it has a long history judging from its style.
W: Don’t be so sure. It’s just been rebuilt. Check out the bricks. They are brand new.
M: You have a point. Now I see what you mean.
W: With modern technology, that’s not so hard. If you are an expert, you can easily make it look like it’s 200 years old.
M: Let’s ask someone whether we can get a tour inside.
W: Great idea. Maybe we can if it is for sale.
Text 7
W: What do you think if we leave earlier today and hang out in the city before the meeting with Duggan & Murphy? I want to check out a bookstore on Howard Street. I will definitely miss this city after the project is completed.
M: Certainly. When do you want to leave?
W: How about at 2:00 p.m.?
M: Okay. We can take a bus or drive so that we can enjoy the scenery along the way.
W: You know, Duggan & Murphy is located in the city center. It’s always crowded in the rush hour. Getting there might take hours. It won’t be convenient.
M: Sure. We’ll take the subway then. How about we break for lunch at the cafeteria around the corner now?
W: Sounds great.
Text 8
M: Judy, I’m thinking of going to see the basketball game next week. Will you come along?
W: Me? Really? Don’t you usually go with Terry?
M: Yes, but he’ll be out of town for business then.
W: Have you got the tickets yet?
M: I made a booking on the official website, but I haven’t made the payment. I’ll do it tomorrow.
W: Why don’t we buy them at the ticket office the day before the game? What if our plans change?
M: It might be at least twice as expensive that way.
W: Oh, I see. I need a babysitter for Helen on that day. Is it on Saturday?
M: Yep.
W: It might be challenging. Saturdays tend to be busy.
M: Perhaps you could offer higher pay to the babysitter.
W: I’ll try.
Text 9
W: This is unacceptable. Can I speak to your manager?
M: Yes, but you have to wait. He is assisting another client at the moment.
W: Fine, I’ll wait. I can’t believe I was charged for that.
M: Let me explain one more time. You see, to avoid any additional charges, you need to use your credit card at least once a month. Otherwise, $15 would be automatically collected monthly.
W: Why wasn’t I aware of this policy?
M: I’m not exactly sure, but I have your signature right here.
W: Well, I signed lots of documents when I was opening the account here. I didn’t read everything. Don’t you think this kind of information should have been pointed out?
M: Please forgive me. That’s our fault.
W: That’s unbelievable. Even though my card is still valid for another year, I want to close my account and get my money back. In cash, please.
M: I’m sorry, we can’t do that. My manager has nearly finished. I’ll lead the way.
W: Okay.

During evenings spent with her crafting (手工艺) group, Kate Smith has produced a host of lovely pieces: hand-made bags, summer dresses, and even jewellery. But the thing she’s most proud of creating is a group of close friends that value each other’s company.
The four members of the group, Smith, Ratnett, Jenny and Clark, whose children were of the similar ages, first met at the school gate in the village of Marshfield. Later Smith ran a shop called Makery, selling craft(手工)materials and running in-store workshops. When the four got chatting, it turned out that they all showed interest in crafting and had all popped into the shop at one time or another. From then on, they have been meeting regularly to get crafty, taking it in turns to host at home.
During their craft nights, the group will either work on their own projects or deal with a craft task together. Everyone will bring something delicious to eat, always Clark’s famous homemade bread, sometimes chocolates or a bottle of prosecco. But although all four women love to get their craft on, the real highlight of the evening is the chance to catch up.
“We’ll give each other a big hug when we see each other,” says Smith. “Sometimes we’ll have a lot going on at home, but at our crafting evenings we can just let it all out. We don’t have to pretend everything is all right. I get a huge sense of comfort from asking their opinions on things, and we love sharing and learning new skills together. It’s a safe space filled with lovely people, and just really therapeutic (治愈的).”
With Clark due to move back to her native New Zealand in November, the group plans to meet as regularly as they can in the run-up, and continue their meetings via video call once she’s overseas. As Christmas approaches, they’re also planning to keep up their crafting traditions.

A. The creation of beautiful craftwork.
B. The chance to improve crafting skills.
C. The close relationship among friends.
D. The lifelong company of the members.
25. What brought the four members together in Makery?
A. Their children of similar ages. B. Their shared interest in crafting.
C. Their common habit in shopping. D. Their idea of running workshops.
26. What is the best part of the crafting evenings?
A. Supporting each other. B. Enjoying delicious food.
C. Improving new art skills. D. Working on their project.
27. Which of the following is the group’s future plan?
A. They will move together soon. B. They will meet every Christmas.
C. They will travel to New Zealand. D. They will keep their traditions alive.

It usually takes a generation or two to measure the full effects of changes in technology and the influence that these changes have on our lives.
We have just gone through another industrial revolution(变革)with the creation of the Internet. You wouldn't know life before the Internet, but it is very different now. Just like when I was a kid, I wouldn't have known what life was like before television. However, the fact is that we are seeing what is happening now before our very eyes. It is all mostly good, but some of it has a bad influence as well.
The past years has seen the rise of social media as the source of communication and information. Our little handheld phones have become our window to the world round the clock, where people can share experiences with others all around the planet.
But as with most things, we have seen the downsides of social media. The spreading of false news, online bullying(欺凌),and unpleasant images are just some of the downsides. We are seeing young people losing themselves in their screens by checking things on social media or having thoughts of self-harm. Older generations say "just turn off the phone", but they don't realize that young people are conditioned to live in that online world and it is impossible to turn it off.
That is why the government is now looking for the prevention(预防) by different means. And one of them is raising the age limits for social media users. But how would that work? I find it fun to think that my older Boomer generation is going to try to block social media access and outsmart these teens. We know who will win that one! But as I said at the start, we are seeing the effects of this technology after a couple of generations and we need to do something about it.
28.What is the author's opinion about the revolution caused by the Internet?
A. It will last for a short time. B. We can see it shaping our life.
C. We can do nothing about it. D. It has more bad influences.
29.What is an advantage of mobile phones according to the text?
A. They make it easy to travel alone. B. They are quite cheap.
C. They keep us connected at all times. D.They create new ideas.
30. What does the author want to show by mentioning online bullying?
A.The serious health risk. B. The false news on the Internet.
C. The mistakes students make. D.The danger of social media
31.What might the author continue talking about?
A. Other harm prevention measures. B.The reason why we take action.
C.Parents' doubts about social media. D. The role the Internet can play.
D
In recent years, the concept of “slow travel” has appeared as a reaction to the fast-paced, mass tourism that dominates (主宰) the industry. Slow travel encourages travelers to engage deeply with local cultures, stay longer in destinations, and form meaningful connections with local communities.
One of the key principles(原则) of slow travel is to reduce environmental impact. By choosing to stay in locally-owned accommodations, eating at family-run restaurants, and using public transportation or bicycles, travelers can greatly decrease their carbon footprint. For instance, a study found that tourists who engage in slow travel produce up to 70% less greenhouse gas emissions (排放)compared to those on traditional package tours.
Slow travel also allows for a deeper cultural understanding. Instead of rushing through tourist attractions, slow travelers take the time to participate(参加) in local traditions, learn about historical importance, and interact with locals. This not only enriches the travel experience but also provides economic benefits to local communities. In some rural areas, “slow travel” has helped preserve (保存) endangered crafts and save dying traditions.
However, slow travel is not without challenges. It requires more planning and flexibility. As travelers need to research local customs, transportation options, and authentic(真实的) experiences. Additionally, slow travel may not be feasible for everyone due to time or budget limit. For busy professionals or families with limited vacation days, spending weeks in a single destination may seem unrealistic.
Despite these challenges, the slow travel movement continues to grow. Travelers are becoming more aware of their environmental and cultural impact, and many are seeking more authentic and sustainable ways to explore the world. As a result, travel companies are starting to offer more slow-travel options, such as longer home-stays and cultural experience programs.
28. Which is the benefit of slow travel?
A. It can save money on traveling.
B. It can allow travelers to visit more places hurriedly.
C. It can be more environmentally friendly.
D. It can increase the income of travel companies.
29. What can we learn about slow travel from the third paragraph?
A. It has little impact on local economies.
B. It focuses on interactions with travelers.
C. It discourages travelers from learning about history.
D. It may contribute to the preservation of traditional crafts
30. What does the underlined word “feasible” mean in this context?
A. desirable B. affordable C. practical D. classical
31. What can be inferred about the future of slow travel?
A. It will take the place of traditional tourism entirely.
B. It will only be accessible to rich travelers.
C. It will cost less as time passes.
D. It may become more popular in the future.
