A man in Germany may not have been in danger when he called the police about a baby squirrel running after him, but it all worked out for the best of the funny suspect (嫌疑人).
Emergency service centre (应急服务中心) in the city of Karlsruhe got a call on Thursday from a man afraid that the tiny animal wouldn’t stop following him around, The Guardian reported. Police arrived at the scene, where the squirrel finally stopped running after him by lying down and going to sleep.
It turned out that the squirrel actually needed help, the police said. “It often happens that squirrels which have lost their mothers look for a replacement (代替者) and then focus (集中) their efforts on one person,” the policewoman Cristina Krenz told The Guardian.
The squirrel, now named Karl-Friedrich, is in the care of an animal center. Karlsruhe police posted a statement on Facebook about the animal, including several lovely photos.

Although the government in the German case said the squirrel did need help, wildlife experts (专家) warn that before intervening (介入) in the case where you suspect a squirrel is orphaned (孤儿的), you should do your best to make sure the animal truly requires help. When in doubt, contact a local wildlife rescuer or animal center.

Sky Dancers
They fly up and down, here and there. They move their tails lightly, from side to side. They catch the wind and move quietly high in the sky. What are these things dancing in the wind? They are kites.
Kites have a long history. More than three thousand years ago, people in China made the first kites. They used bamboo—which is light and strong—to build the frames (框架). Then they added silk to make the kite.
The kite became an important symbol (象征) in China. They were used in many ways. For example, people flew kites to celebrate happy moments like birthdays. They also believed kites could help tell the future. Later, they used kites to study the weather. Even some old Chinese stories tell how people in the past used kites to win a fight.
Soon kites came to other parts of Asia. In Japan, kites were also popular because Japanese people, like people in China, believed that kites brought good luck. Like Chinese kites, Japanese kites also took the shape (形状) of large birds, fish and other different animals.
After a while, the kite found its way from Asia to Europe. In the 1600s, young English children learned to make kites. People named the new toy “kite” because it flew like a kite—a special kind of bird.
Today, children and grown-ups all over the world enjoy flying kites. They can be many different shapes, sizes, and colors. Kites today are often made of nylon (尼龙). Their frames may be light steel. Some kites are still made of paper and wood. Whatever they look like, kites are fun for people all over the world. So next time you have a chance, take a break! Go fly a kite!

Most people had never heard of a pet detective (侦探) before watching the old movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. However, real-life pet detectives are different from the noisy and funny detective Ventura in the movie. They are trained experts who take their jobs very seriously.
Liu Wei, the 35-year-old man from Shanghai, is quite famous in the new business. He entered the business early. In 2012, he read an article about pet detectives by chance. As a lover of cats and dogs and a fan of detective fiction, he decided to give it a try. But his family didn’t support him. And they didn’t believe someone would spend money finding an animal. However, Liu didn’t give up.
Now Liu has a 12-person team working with him. They have about 30 orders every month. Before heading out, he asks the pet owners many questions about their lost pets, like name, looks, and others. This is very important. It’s very common for him to walk tens of thousands of steps a day. Liu also makes good use of modern tools while searching.
So far, Liu has helped reunite (使团聚) more than 1,000 lost pets. “It’s a great sense of achievement when I finally find a missing pet after days of efforts,” he said.
The pet detective business has grown in China in recent years as more people keep pets at home. Hiring (雇佣) a pet detective is not cheap.
The baby squirrel’s chase (追逐) is the second squirrel event to make international headlines this summer. Last month, a London woman called police after she heard loud noises in her home and suspected a burglar. The intruder turned out to be a squirrel, according to the police who came for help.
Although the government in the German case said the squirrel did need help, wildlife experts (专家) warn that before intervening (介入) in the case where you suspect a squirrel is orphaned (孤儿的), you should do your best to make sure the animal truly requires help. The Wildlife Centre of Virginia, which gets hundreds of calls every year about supposedly orphaned squirrels, published this handy guide to help decide whether such an animal really needs help and what to do if so. When in doubt, contact a local wildlife rescuer or animal center.
22.Karl-Friedrich in the passage turns out to be ________.
A.a policewoman B.a little squirrel
C.a guide in Virginia D.a woman from London
23.Why did the baby squirrel run after the man?
A.The man gave food to it.
B.The man would take it to the animal center.
C.It wanted to bite the man.
D.It needed a replacement for the loss of its mother.
24.What can we learn from the wildlife experts’ words?
A.People should find out if the squirrels truly need help.
B.The police should punish the people who hunt the squirrels.
C.The government should make laws to protect the squirrels.
D.The animal center needs enough money to carry on with their work.
25.Which part of a newspaper may this passage come from?
A.Nature & Environment. B.Humans & Culture.
C.Geography & History. D.Sports & Music.
