Dog TV, the first television channel (频道) for dogs, appeared in America in 2012. Now, it is available (可用的) in 14 countries, including Australia, China, France, the UK, etc. Dog TV goes on the 24th of July. Its service costs $9.99 a month. If you order a yearly service, it will save you about $3.74 each month.
Believe it or not, Dog TV didn’t start as a TV channel for dogs. The idea for Pet TV came from Ron Levi. To let his cat Charlie have fun while he was out. Ron did some research and began to work with scientists and pet experts to bring his idea to life. To their surprise, dogs showed more interest in different kinds of programs than cats. Pet TV finally became Dog TV.
Dog TV was developed to entertain and comfort stay-at-home dogs. It provides relaxing video and music for dogs. Each program is about 3 to 6 minutes. The programs are different from time to time during the day. In the morning, programs are to get dogs out of bed and moving for the day. In the middle of the day, programs are to calm dogs while they are home alone. For dogs scared of things like cars or loud noises, Dog TV has special programs with pictures and sounds to help them get used to the things they fear. The channel even has educational programs on health and training.
A lot of thought goes into the making of every Dog TV program. Dog TV turned to animal experts to create suitable shows for dogs’ seeing and hearing. Dogs are color-blind (色盲的). They can only see blue and yellow, and they can’t see red or green. So the Dog TV show might sound and look a little different to people’s ear and eye. But don’t worry. Dog TV also has programs for pet parents, too.
25. How much may it cost a month to order one year’s service at a time?
A. $3.74 B. $6.25 C. $9.99 D. $13.73
26. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. How Dog TV started B. The programs of Dog TV
C. The hard work behind Dog TV D. Where people can watch Dog TV
27 Which of the following is NOT TRUE about Dog TV’s programs?
A. Morning programs can wake up the dogs.
B. Midday programs can make the dogs quiet.
C. They are all about video and music for dogs to relax.
D. Special programs can make dogs get used to things they fear.
28. What will the writer probably talk about after the last paragraph?
A. Why dogs are color-blind. B. The future plan of Dog TV.
C. The programs for pet owners. D. How Dog TV programs are made.
B 26. A 27. C 28. C

根据“Dog TV didn’t start as a TV channel for dogs”可知,第二段主要讲述了Dog TV的起源,从最初为猫设计的Pet TV,因狗的兴趣更高而转变为Dog TV。故选A。
根据“Dog TV was developed to entertain and comfort stay-at-home dogs. It provides relaxing video and music.”,以及“The channel even has educational programs on health and training.”

C
① There may be no place more dangerous than Death Valley Death Valley is the hottest and driest place in North America.
②Death Valley isn’t an easy place to live in. It gets less than two feet of rain a year and it’s hot, too. In July, the temperature often gets over 46℃. There is even a lake that has turned into salt crystals (晶体). But it is cold at night. When it gets cold enough, the water on the ground will turn into very thin ice. Then the strong wind—like a large hand—can move the rocks along the icy ground. That is why the rocks can “walk” on their own in Death Valley.
③The weather condition (状况) in Death Valley is terrible, but it is still full of life. Nothing can stop plants and animals from making it their home. People have found more than 1,000 kinds of plants there. It also has 51 kinds of mammals (哺乳动物), 6 kinds of fish, and more than 300 kinds of birds. The animals aren’t all small, either.
④Finding water is the biggest challenge for anything that lives there. Some plants have roots that go fifty feet under the ground to find water. Kangaroo rats (更格卢鼠) get the water they need from flowers.
⑤Death Valley really makes a lot of surprises!
29. Death Valley is the ________ place in North America.
A. safest B. hottest C. wettest D. coldest
30 The rocks can “walk” on their own in Death Valley because ________.
A. it gets less than two feet of rain a year in Death Valley
B. the water on the ground will turn into very thin ice
C. the strong wind can move the rocks along the icy ground
D. the weather condition in Death Valley is really terrible
31. How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 4?
A. By giving examples. B. By asking questions.
C. By giving suggestions. D. By telling stories.
32. Which is the best structure of the passage?
A. ①②/③④/⑤ B. ①/②③/④⑤ C. ①/②③④⑤ D. ①/②③④/⑤
B 30. C 31. A 32. D

根据“Then the strong wind—like a large hand—can move the rocks along the icy ground. That is why the rocks can ‘walk’ on their own in Death Valley.”
根据“Finding water is the biggest challenge for anything that lives there.”可知,寻找水源对这里的生物来说是最大的挑战;再根据“Some plants have roots that go fifty feet under the ground to find water. Kangaroo rats (更格卢鼠) get the water they need from flowers.” 故选A。
D
It can be really awkward (尴尬的) if someone sees you talking to yourself. But don’t feel bad about it! Talking to yourself actually has a lot of benefits.
You probably know that thinking is good for the brain. It helps us do things like making plans and managing our feelings. Speaking out loud is like showing this quiet inner (内在的) speech. It can help us do better in different areas like school, sports and work.
When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence (自信). A 2009 study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers put the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group.
Talking to yourself, especially in the third person, can also help us manage bad feelings. “Referring to (指代) yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how they think about others,” said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, US. This can help us see things from a different point of view, especially when we’re feeling sad or angry.
Self-talk also helps improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things: reading silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. Those who read out loud recalled the information the best, researchers said in their study published (发表) in the journal Memory. It’s because the information is likely to become a long-term memory if said out loud.
33. What might the word ”benefits” mean in Paragraph 1?
A. strange ideas B. healthy ways C. special needs D. good sides
34. According to Paragraph 3, what can self-talking help to do?
A. Find out who the best players are.
B. Develop a player’s skills.
C. Improve one’s confidence.
D. Change a person’s character.
35. Which way of self-talk can help people see things more widely?
A. “Is there anything we can do for her?”
B. “I have tried my best. Just do what I can.”
C. “What can Annie do to make the situation better?”
D. “You are the strongest person I’ve ever met.”
36. According to the last paragraph, reading out loud can .
A. help listeners have long-term memory
B. help one remember things longer
C. help to memorize things very quickly
D. make more people know the information
D 34. C 35. C 36. B

Speaking out loud is like showing this quiet inner (内在的) speech. It can help us do better in different areas like school, sports and work.”
根据“When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence (自信).”
根据“‘Referring to (指代) yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how they think about others,’ said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, US. This can help us see things from a different point of view, especially when we’re feeling sad or angry.”
根据最后一段中“Self-talk also helps improve memory.…Those who read out loud recalled the information the best, researchers said in their study published (发表) in the journal Memory.”

C. The hard work behind Dog TV D. Where people can watch Dog TV
27. Which of the following is NOT TRUE about Dog TV’s programs?

29 Death Valley is the ________ place in North America.

Wan Nian Li is the oldest solar calendar in ancient China. It is more like a guide and an important tool for farming and daily life of Chinese people.
It’s said that in ancient times there was a young man named Wan Nian. He thought that there were natural rules for the change of seasons and climate, and wanted to find out the special rules of nature. When he climbed the mountain, he was inspired by the shadows (影子) of trees on the mountain, and made a sundial (日晷) that measured the shadow of the sun to fix the time. As time went on, he found that every more than three hundred and sixty days, the length of the day would repeat itself.
When Wan Nian knew that the emperor of the Shang Dynasty, Zu Yi, was worried because of the uncertainty of the time, he nominated (推荐) himself to create a calendar for the country and help all the people.
After the long-term study, Wan Nian worked out an exact calendar called “Tai Yang Li”. When he presented it to the emperor, Wan Nian was an old man with white hair. The emperor was very moved. To praise the achievements of Wan Nian, he named the solar calendar Wan Nian Li. In memory of (为了纪念) Wan Nian, people called the first day of a year “Nian”, so the Chinese New Year was born.
