Last summer, I spent a week at my grandfather’s house in a quiet town. On the first morning, I found him in his study, practising calligraphy (书法). “Would you like to learn?” he asked, handing me a brush. I nodded, thinking it would be easy.
Grandfather started with the basics. First, he showed me how to hold the brush in the right way-upright and relaxed. “The brush is like a part of your mind,” he said. Next, we practised the most basic strokes on old newspapers. My lines were shaky and uneven. I felt down and upset. Then, he taught me to write the character “永”, which has eight basic strokes. I practised it again and again. Finally, after many tries, I wrote one that looked good and proper. Grandfather smiled. “Good. You are learning more than writing,” he said.
I didn’t fully understand his words at first. But as days went by, I began to feel calm an focused. The noise in my mind slowly went away. On my last day, I wrote the character for “patience”—“耐”. The lines were still not perfect, but they were much better.
When I got home, my father looked at my practice paper. “Your grandfather has taught you well,” he said. I finally understood. Calligraphy wasn’t just about writing beautifully. It was like a mirror. It taught me that the real strength comes from keeping a cool head, not from being fast. My grandfather didn’t just give me a brush—he gave me a way to understand myself better.
4. What is the correct order of the events according to the passage?
a. Practising the character “永”. b. Learning how to hold the brush properly.
c. Writing the character for “patience”. d. Practising basic strokes on newspapers.
A. a→b→c→d B. b→d→a→c C. b→a→d→c D. d→b→c→a
5. According to the passage, why did the grandfather choose the character “永” for the writer to practise?
A. Because it was the grandfather’s favorite character.
B. Because it is a very simple character for beginners.
C. Because it includes eight basic strokes.
D. Because it is the most common character.
6. What can we infer from Paragraph 4?
A. The writer had learned more than just writing skills.
B. The grandfather was too strict about calligraphy skills.
C. The writer’s calligraphy skills had reached the highest level.
D. Calligraphy was just about writing beautifully.
7. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. My Great Grandfather
B. A Lesson From Calligraphy
C. The History of Chinese Writing
D. The Way to Practise Calligraphy Well
C
It is a dark night, and you are trying to sleep. Suddenly, you hear a “buzz, buzz, buzz” sound near your ear. It is a mosquito (蚊子)! But how does it find you so easily in the dark? It is because mosquitoes have a hidden map to find people and they use three special things to read it.
First, the most important guide for a mosquito is the air you breathe out. When we breathe, we let out a special kind of air. We cannot see it or smell it, but for a mosquito, it is a very strong signal. This signal tells the mosquito, “Food is near!” Because we breathe from our nose and mouth, the signal is strongest around our head. That is why a mosquito’s journey often ends near your face.
Next, mosquitoes can also feel heat. Our bodies are warm, and mosquitoes can feel this warmth from far away. They see warm places better, especially parts of our body like our face and ears where the skin is thin. This helps them choose the perfect spot.
Also, they like the personal smell of our skin. When we play sports and sweat, they like that smell even more. It tells them that a delicious meal is ready.
So, the air from your breath, the heat from your body, and the smell of your skin are the three hidden signs on a mosquito’s map. They are not trying to be annoying (烦人的) when they fly around your head. They are just following their special map to find their dinner. Next time you hear that buzz, you will know the truth behind their amazing journey.
8. How does the writer start the text?
A. By listing numbers. B. By describing a scene.
C. By using a saying. D. By comparing two things.
9. According to the passage, what are the hidden signs on a mosquito’s map?
①the air from your breath ②the smell of your skin
③the color of your skin ④the heat from your body
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ②③④ D. ①③④
10. Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?(P= Paragraph)
A. B. C. D.
11. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To share an interesting story.
B. To ask us to kill mosquitoes.
C. To show how annoying mosquitoes are.
D. To explain why mosquitoes find you easily.
D
Imagine a museum where you are encouraged to touch, play, and experiment with everything you see. This is the magic of the Exploratorium (探索博物馆), a world-famous museum of science, art, and human perception (感知), often described as the most interesting and interactive museum in the world.
Unlike other traditional museums with “Do Not Touch” signs, the Exploratorium is filled with hundreds of hands-on exhibits. Here you can create huge soap bubbles, experience the force of a tornado, or even lie on a bed of nails safely. Each exhibit is designed not just to show a scientific fact, but to let you discover it for yourself. You will become the scientist, asking questions and finding answers through direct experience. It’s a place where laughter and excitement fill the air, making every discovery feel like a personal success.
One of the most popular areas is the Tactile Dome. In this area, visitors can crawl (爬行) through a completely dark maze (迷宫) and you have to feel your way around. This special experience will change how you sense the space and your own body. In another exhibit, you can see your own shadow (影子) frozen on a wall, which teaches you about light and glow effects. These activities not only teach scientific principles but also spark a sense of playful curiosity (好奇心) in guests of all ages.
The museum proves that learning doesn’t have to be boring. By connecting art with science, it turns complex ideas into interesting and memorable adventures. It also shows that curiosity is our best tool for understanding the world. The Exploratorium is more than a museum; it’s a playground for the mind, encouraging visitors of all ages to see the wonder in everyday phenomena (现象).
12. Who might be interested in reading the passage?
A. A teenager who is interested in science.
B. A student who is interested in history.
C. A teacher who loves music very much.
D. A girl who is interested in cooking.
13. What do the underlined words “hands-on exhibits” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. People you can talk to.
B. Things you can touch.
C. Food you can eat.
D. Letters you can read.
14. Which of the experiences in the museum is mentioned in the passage?
A. Walking through a completely dark maze.
B. Experiencing the force of an earthquake.
C. Seeing your own shadow frozen on a window.
D. Lying on a bed of nails safely.
15. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. It introduces the Tactile Dome.
B. It tells us the importance of the museum.
C. It tells us the popularity of the museum.
D. It introduces a special museum.

【答案】例文
Dear Mike,
How are you? I am writing to you to introduce a traditional Chinese festival.
I’d like to tell you about the Dragon Boat Festival. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Chinese people celebrate it to remember the great poet Qu Yuan.
On this day, we have many activities. We usually hold dragon boat races. Teams compete strongly on the water, and it’s very exciting. We also eat zongzi, a kind of rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves. It tastes delicious.
I really like the Dragon Boat Festival because it’s full of fun and tradition. People come together and enjoy the celebrations. It makes me feel proud of our culture.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
