Cultural awareness and thinking quality Understand the true meaning of the relationship among family members further and develop students’ humanity and form the right view about family. Step1 Lead-in Ask students to describe the relationship with their family members using some of the following words: punish, dislike,disagree, argue, distrust, harmony, happy, lively, encourage, inspire, cooperate... Step2 Reading 1. Fast-reading Ask students to look at the title and predict the topic of the passage. ------About the brothers’ relationship. 2. Careful reading 1) Read the passage and find the five aspects of the story: when, who, where, what and why. When and where: the final part of the 2016 World Triathlon Series in Mexico Who: Alistair Brownlee and his brother Jonny. What: Jonny was about to fall onto the track. Alistair chose Brotherly love not a chance to win the race. Why: family love is more important than winning a medal. 2)Read again, and then figure out the main idea of each passage. Para.1 The incident leads to two choices that Alistair needs to make. Para.2 Older brother made a right choice to help his younger brother. Para.3 The two brothers encouraged each other. Para.4 As an old brother, Brownlee has to bear related responsibilities. 3)Figure out the main idea of the passage. Step3 Consolidation 1) Read the text and deal with the questions about Think&Share. 2) Read the text again and find some key expressions: push himself towards the finish line, in the lead, in the burning heat, see somebody about to do something, in trouble, push somebody over the line, an unexpected ending, encourage each other, despite, an enormously positive force, watched by millions, disqualified, highly praised, aim for a medal... 3) Retell the story of the Brownlee brothers using the expressions above and the key aspects of features.
