Lost Coast
An experienced hiker’s paradise, California's Lost Coast stretches from Shelter Cove to Mattole Beach, about 75 miles. The 4 Best Venice Hotels for Views
Hotel Danieli
The Danieli—built in the 14th century and run as a hotel since 1822 lives up to its reputation: Goethe, Wagner, George Sand, and other literary and musical great masters of the 18th and 19th centuries were frequent guests. Though it can be crowded, a Danieli stay is always a memorable experience, from the rooms to the views to the dining.
Westin Europa & Regina
The hotel is modern but looks old-fashioned because it’s made from five buildings from the 1700s and 1800s. It’s in a great spot by the big canal and very close to the best shopping street in Venice. It also has lots of outdoor spaces, so guests will enjoy it.
Bauer Palazzo
Set in the busy square of Campo San Moisè, close to both Piazza San Marco and high-end shops, the hotel is constructed from two joined palaces. The appearance away from the water has a Soviet-style look. Plus, it’s in a location for sightseeing and close to the shopping street—and its terrace (阳台) on the Grand Canal offers unforgettable views.
Aman Venice
At Aman Venice, it feels like you’re in your own fancy home, but it costs a lot. It’s different from other fancy hotels in Venice because it feels both special and relaxed. People have lots of choices, like when and where to eat or rest.

Passage 12 人与自我——生活与学习
(24-25学年高二上·湖南省长沙市周南中学·期末)
Five Solid Reasons Why Regular Dental Visits Matter
1. Because prevention is better than cure.
Regular dental check-ups are recommended to maintain healthy teeth and gums. The interval varies from three months to two years depending on your oral health. Your dentist will advise you on what’s right for you. The aim of a check-up is to nip any problems in the bud, before you experience pain, lose teeth or have other health problems. Gum disease has been associated with heart disease, for example.
2. You’ve got bad breath.
Bad breath is embarrassing and can sometimes leave a nasty taste in your mouth. You might have a hole in your tooth, an infection or gum disease. Your dentist can give you tips on cleaning your teeth more effectively and treat more serious disease. Your family and friends will thank you for it.
3. Your gums keep bleeding.
Persistent bleeding when you floss or brush isn’t normal. You might just be brushing too enthusiastically —— yes, it’s possible to overdo it, but it could be gum disease. Your dentist will let you know which it is and help you resolve it.
4. To check for cancer.
Dentists don’t just look for holes and unhealthy gums; they can also spot mouth cancer and refer patients to hospital to see a specialist. Cases have risen by 34 percent in the past decade, according to the Oral Health Foundation, but early discovery can save your life.
5. You want to improve your confidence.
More and more adults are having treatment to straighten their teeth. Not only does it make a huge difference to your smile, but it can also prevent gum disease, which is more likely to take hold if you struggle to clean crooked teeth.
21. What’s the purpose of regular dental check-ups?
A. To relieve your toothache.
B. To treat your heart disease.
C. To help to clean your teeth more effectively.
D. To prevent teeth and gum diseases.
22. What can’t dentists do?
A. Help to treat your mouth cancer.
B. Find out why your gums keep bleeding.
C. Instruct you to clean your teeth properly.
D. Straighten your teeth.
23. Where will you probably read this passage?
A. Health column in a magazine. B. An advertisement for toothbrushes.
C. A dentist’s diary. D. A medical research paper.
【答案】21. D 22. A 23. A

California’s Hidden Gems
Lost Coast
An experienced hiker’s paradise, California's Lost Coast stretches from Shelter Cove to Mattole Beach, about 75 miles. Mono Lake
Otherworldly in a number of ways, Mono Lake is an ancient saline lake on California’s eastern edge. No fish swim here, but brine shrimp do, and those draw myriad bird species that migrate along the Pacific Flyway, Distinct limestone formations called tufa stand out — literally and figuratively — at Mono Lake.
Point Reyes
Point Reyes is pleasantly quiet, especially along its coastal trails. Look for wildflowers and endemic animals on Tomales Point Trail — which rambles for nearly 10 miles on this special, skinny peninsula, delivering gorgeous, foggy views of the Ocean.
Trinity Alps
Another stunning preserve in Northern California Trinity Alps Wilderness awes visitors with its alpine lakes and granite peaks. It’s an excellent option for day hiking, like Hidden Lake Trail, but also for multiday backpacking trips such as the 18.6-mile Canyon Creek Lakes Trail.
Shasta Lake
This sprawling reservoir might best be experienced via houseboat. Once on board your floating accommodations, try your hand at all the water sports: swimming, water skiing, fishing, jet skiing, and more, all with regal Mount Shasta in the background.
