Vacations are being redefined to improve your wellness experiences. The new buzzword is “sleep tourism” and the focus is on ensuring that you rest well at night and actually return from your vacation feeling refreshed.
When away, vacationers traditionally like to make use of every second of the day. They rush from site to site, eat meals at all hours of the day, and treat themselves at night. And when finally returning to their hotel rooms at night, they find it hard to sleep. Besides, downtown hotels may be centrally located, with noisy traffic and flashing city lights pervading (弥漫). Also, many people simply do not sleep well when away from their own beds. All these factors lead to pain, allergies and hormonal issues, making sleep challenging.
“Sleep tourism” addresses these issues and more. Special sleep suites have been thoughtfully designed to offer quiet and darkness. Hotels are investing in artificial intelligence mattresses (床垫) that adjust temperature and have cushions to relieve pressure points. The mattresses can also track sleep statistics and offer vacationers feedback on their sleep patterns.
Sleep suites are a huge advance in tourism and are now found in wellness hotels around the world. Each offers different ways of inducing sleep, according to Condé Nast Traveler. Many provide a menu of relaxing teas and a tailored bed. No matter which sleep suite you choose, the goal is to sleep well so you can improve your health and well-being. Sinking into a comfortable bed should be the best part of a trip!
The hope is that more hotels adapt to this wellness trend and return to the original purpose of a hotel room, which is sleep! Now you can tour around by day and have sweet dreams by night.

4.推理判断题。文章最后一段“The hope is that more hotels adapt to this wellness trend and return to the original purpose of a hotel room, which is sleep!(希望更多的酒店适应这种健康趋势,回归酒店房间的最初目的,那就是睡觉!)”明确呼吁希望更多酒店适应睡眠旅游这一健康趋势,回归酒店房间的初衷——提供睡眠;由此可推测,未来更多酒店会专注于提供更好的睡眠体验。故选C。
Here are the best places to stay in Alaska, which have been selected based on location, style, rooms, facilities and dining options. All hotels have been independently reviewed by our expert staff.
A Taste of Alaska cottage (小屋)
A Taste of Alaska cottage has a good location: close enough to Fairbanks for exploring and to view the Northern Lights. It began in 1947 as a family home and has developed over the years into an enjoyable place where family atmosphere runs deep.
Price: £173 per person per night
Talkeetna Alaskan cottage
There is the look and feel of a classic mountainside cottage — an Alaska brown bear specimen (标本) with about 2,000 pounds shares the lobby (大厅) with a huge river rock fireplace, which is especially attractive. On a clear day the views of the Denali, the highest mountain in North America, and neighbouring mountains provide the picture visitors come from around the world to take.
Price: £114 per person per night
Chena Hot Springs Hotel
Set in the Alaskan wilderness, Chena Hot Springs Hotel offers days spent in a warm coat, enjoying drinks at a bar made of ice, or relaxing in natural hot springs. And at nightfall, if Mother Nature permits, it’s the Northern Lights that will make you feel like you’re somewhere out of this world.
Price: £205 per person per night
Windsong Hotel
The quiet and peaceful Windsong Hotel is located just outside the town of Seward. Kenai Fjords National Park is within easy reach, and stations for scenic tours of the Park are less than a 10-minute drive away. A rental car is recommended. Due to icy road in winter, it operates from mid-May to mid-September.

Coming into the town of Santa Catarin a Palopó, in the highlands of Lake Atitlan inGuatemala, the first thing you notice is the bright colors. Most of the buildings along the main street are eye-catching, in deep blues and greens, dotted with red and yellow to form diverse patterns and designs.
Santa Catarin a Palopo was once a sleepy town of 5,000 people, most of them dependent on agricultural work. But as agriculture began to dry up here, poverty came. To deal with poverty and promote economic growth through tourism, a small but creative group of laborers, artisans, domestic workers and stay-at-home moms created the Pintando Santa Catarina Palopo project.
The project aimed to paint all 850 homes and buildings in bright colors to change the hillside town into a work of art. “We wanted to paint the houses with colors and figures that represent the community,” says the project's executive director Stephany Blanco. “Families can choose designs for their house that are representative of the family.”
One of the most representative characteristics of the region is the blue huipil, a traditional blouse which has been worn commonly by local women since the 16th century. That deep sky blue was chosen as the primary color for the Pintando project, with secondary colors found in the sunsets and the nearby lake to make the design more attractive. Inspiration was also found in local culture, symbols such as volcanoes, flowers, and the national bird ofGuatemala.
Each week, local artists, community members and tourists pick up paintbrushes to make buildings colorful. “At first, the idea of the project was uncertain, but now you can see a considerable difference in the town,” Melissa Whitbeck said. “The color of the buildings is believed to improve the quality of life of the people. It uplifts the people's mood and encourages them to be proud of their hometown.”

D.For the old-fashioned farming ways.
2.What is the project about?
A.Building family art galleries in Guatemala.
B.Creating job opportunities for local artists.
C.Developing local tourism by selling artworks.
D.Changing the town into a cultural destination.
3.What is the inspiration of the primary color for the project?
A.The surrounding volcanoes.
B.Mayan-styled butterflies.
C.A type of traditional clothing.
D.The national bird of Guatemala.
4.What is Melissa’ s attitude towards the project?
A.Positive. B.Critical. C.Concerned. D.Doubtful.

Travel has long been celebrated for its ability to overpass different countries, connect people from diverse backgrounds. Certain destinations may hold a special appeal to different people. For example, someone who values adventure and outdoor activities may be more likely to visit destinations known for their natural landscapes and outdoor amusement opportunities. On the other hand, someone with a strong love for history may be drawn to destinations with rich history, tradition, and cultural diversity.
Portugal belongs to the latter. Tourism in this country plays a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural understanding and building meaningful connections between travelers and local communities. As travelers immerse (沉浸) themselves in new experiences, engage with local communities, and step outside their comfort zones, they gain a deeper appreciation for the complexities of different cultures and perspectives.
Cultural exchange here is not just a concept — it is a lived experience that enriches the lives of both travelers and locals. From participating in traditional festivals and cooking experiences to learning age-old customs, travelers have countless opportunities to break down cultural barriers and connect with Portuguese culture on a personal level.
In Portugal, tourism has become a chance for amplifying diverse voices and stories that might otherwise go unheard. Through initiatives such as community-based tourism projects and storytelling workshops, travelers can engage with local communities in meaningful ways, promoting mutual (相互的) respect.
With the European Structural and Investment funds (ESIF) support, Portugal is building roads, expanding airports, and improving public transportation systems, making it easier for tourists to explore beyond popular cities like Lisbon and Porto. These improvements are vital for unlocking the potential of lesser-known regions, allowing visitors to experience the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage found throughout the countryside. This ensures that all regions of Portugal can share in the benefits of a booming tourism, attracting a broader audience of travelers eager to discover new destinations.

Hello everyone! Meet my new friend Marco. He says Ciao! This means hello in his language. Marco travelled with me this month. When he showed me his country on the map, I was attracted by its shape. It looks like a high-heeled boot (高跟靴) in the Mediterranean Sea that’s kicking a strange-shaped ball. Can you find the name of this ball on the world map?
Marco told me that he loves cars and that his country is well-known for super-fast cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. Isn’t it cool? The people also love soccer here. They call it “Calcio.” He told me that they have won four World Cups. The most recent win was in 2006! When he shared this with me, he was very excited and full of pride
We visited the country’s capital and I was amazed to find that it was more than 2500 years old! We walked around and soon it was time for dinner. Foreign tourists are returning to China in growing numbers after the country loosened its visa policy to an unusually high level. Citizens from 74 countries cann — now enter China for up to 30 days without a visa, a big jump from previous regulations.
The government has been expanding visa-free access to boost tourism, the economy, and its global influence. More than 20 million foreign visitors entered without a visa in 2024 — more than double the number in the previous year, according to the National Immigration Administration. “This really helps people to travel because it is such a trouble to apply for a visa,” Giorgi Shavadze, a Georgian living in Austria, said on a recent visit to the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.
While most tourist spots still attract more local visitors than foreigners, travel agencies and guides are preparing for a larger increase of tourists coming to China during the summer holiday season. “I’m fully booked with tours and struggling to keep up,” says Gao Jun, an English-speaking tour guide with over 20 years of experience. To meet growing demand, he started a training program for people who want to become English-speaking tour guides. “I just can’t handle them all on my own,” he said.
In December 2023, China announced visa-free entry for citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia. Almost all of Europe has been added since then. Travelers from five Latin American countries and Uzbekistan became eligible in June, 2025, followed by four in the Middle East. The total grew to 75 on July 16 with the addition of Azerbaijan.
“The new visa policies are 100% beneficial to us,” said Jenny Zhao, a managing director of WildChina, which specializes in high-end and luxury routes for international travelers. “Air, hotel and other bookings on our website for travel to China doubled in the first three months of this year compared with the same period last year, with 75% of the visitors from visa-free countries.”

Ecotourism has become an increasingly popular way for travelers to explore the world while minimizing their environmental impact. Unlike traditional tourism, which often focuses on luxury accommodations and crowded attractions, ecotourism emphasizes responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local communities.
The core principles of ecotourism include minimizing environmental damage, respecting local cultures, and supporting conservation efforts. Travelers engaging in ecotourism activities typically visit protected areas such as national parks, wildlife reserves, or remote communities. They participate in activities like bird watching, hiking, or learning about traditional crafts from local residents. These experiences not only allow travelers to connect with nature but also contribute to the preservation of fragile ecosystems.
One successful example of ecotourism is the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. Faced with threats from over-tourism in the 20th century, the government implemented strict regulations to protect the unique wildlife and landscapes. Today, visitors to the Galapagos must follow designated routes, be accompanied by certified guides, and pay a conservation fee that funds environmental protection projects. This approach has helped maintain the islands’ biodiversity while providing income for local communities through tourism.
Another example is Costa Rica, often regarded as a leader in ecotourism. The country has transformed its natural resources into a sustainable tourism industry, with over 25% of its land protected in national parks and reserves. Tourists can explore rainforests, observe sea turtles nesting, or stay in eco-lodges that use renewable energy and support local farmers. This model has not only preserved Costa Rica’s natural beauty but also reduced poverty in rural areas by creating jobs in tourism.
However, ecotourism is not without challenges. Some destinations market themselves as “eco-friendly” without implementing meaningful conservation measures, a practice known as “greenwashing.” Travelers must be cautious and research companies before booking to ensure their tourism dollars support genuine environmental and community initiatives.
Additionally, even well-managed ecotourism can have negative impacts if visitor numbers exceed the carrying capacity of an area, leading to habitat disturbance or increased waste.
To practice responsible ecotourism, experts recommend choosing small-scale, locally owned accommodations, participating in guided tours led by local experts, and following the “leave no trace” principle by taking all trash with you and avoiding damage to plants and wildlife. By making informed choices, travelers can enjoy meaningful experiences while helping to protect the planet for future generations.

A.Ecotourism focuses on luxury accommodations.

A.To show the negative effects of over-tourism.

A.promoting. B.preventing. C.causing. D.affecting.

A.All hotels will have artificial intelligence mattresses.
B.Traditional hotels will disappear because of “sleep tourism”.
C.More hotels will focus on providing better sleep experiences.
D.Downtown hotels will move to quieter areas to avoid traffic noise.

Liu Hong, director of the Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Administration in Ganzi, dresses as a swordsman from Louis Cha’s novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, becoming a spokesman for the tourism resources of his hometown.
His videos have drawn much praise. “He’s exactly what I imagined a swordsman would be like in the old times,” one audience commented. At the 2025 China Culture and Tourism Industries Expo ceremony in Wuhan, robots took center stage, creating a fascinating mix of technology and tradition. Humanoid robots dressed in traditional costumes performed dances with human performers, while robotic baristas (咖啡师) made coffee and robotic dogs walked around, creating an amazing futuristic atmosphere.
The expo, hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism from September 12-15, attracted over 225,000 visitors. More than 2,000 domestic exhibitors participated. Half of the visitors came from outside Wuhan, and hotel bookings in the city increased by 43.5 percent during the event.

Marco told me that people there eat pasta (意大利面食) at least once a day. The different sauces and toppings (酱汁和佐料) mean they never get bored of it. Also, they love including seasonal vegetables in their dinners. I couldn’t wait to enjoy the pizza and pasta with different toppings and sauces. The cappuccino and focaccia bread also made me happy. It’s no wonder that the world has adopted so much of their food! The people in this country celebrate many holidays and enjoy eating big meals with their family. The festive atmosphere makes everyone happy.
I was lucky to travel to this country in March and enjoy the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. It is held for four days every year.
