Top Four Cities in Africa for a Great Vacation
Addis Ababa,Ethiopia
Getting around:Taxis are fine;walking is better.
Though Ethiopian food is familiar to a lot of people,on the streets of Addis,it's all about
coffee.Social life in Addis is built on its preparation and consumption. It's a chance to sit down
among a mostly local crowd and order a coffee.
Lusaka,Zambia
Getting around:Taxis are affordable.
This city is known for Victoria Falls.Small shops are lit at night, and they sell everything
from newspapers to soft drinks. On the way, there is the outdoor Mingling Bar,where
customers can enjoy a can of Original American Cola.
Abidjan,Cote d'Ivoire
Getting around:Taxis are cheap.
Abidjan's 5 million people are spread out across four areas. When night falls,Yopougon is
worth heading to.The roads are dusty in the part of Abidjan, but like many cities where living
spaces are small,Abidjan lives its life on its streets.Just to the east of Yopougon is the Plateau,
the business area. This area's modernist building is great and mostly the result of a cocoa-and
coffee-based economic development in the 1950s and 1960s.
Dakar,Senegal
Getting around:Taxis are plentiful.
Possibly the best thing about Dakar is its beach restaurants:special collections of tables
and chairs where customers are served the freshly caught fish.Servers will often offer to run
out to a nearby corner store to buy beer and bring it to the table.

22.What contributes most to the Plateau's modernist building?

When I was nine years old,I loved to go fishing with my dad.But the only thing that
wasn't very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldn't catch anything.I
usually got pretty upset and kept asking him why.He always answered,"Son,if you want to
catch a fish, you have to think like a fish."I remember being even more upset then because,
"I'm not a fish!"I didn't know how to think like a fish.Besides,I reasoned,how could what I
think influence what a fish does?
As I got a little older I began to understand what my dad really meant. So,I read some
books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly
meetings.I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded animal and therefore is very sensitive to water
temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer.
Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade.Yet,fish don't have any
eyelids (and the sun hurts their eyes...The more I understood fish, the more I became

effective at finding and catching them
When I grew up and entered the business world,I remember hearing my first boss say,
"We all need to think like salespeople."But it didn't completely make sense. My dad never
once said,"If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman."What he said was,
"You need to think like a fish."Years later, with great efforts to promote long-term services to
people much older and richer than me,I gradually learned what we all need is to think more
like customers. It is not an easy job.I will show you how in the following chapters.

Most people in their eighties would consider themselves lucky not to have health
problems, but this is not the case with Toshisuke Kanazawa. The 82-year-old Japanese
bodybuilder is not only in perfect physical condition,he also looks better than a lot of men a
quarter his age.
Kanazawa is living proof that you're never too old to hit the gym and achieve the body
you've always dreamed of.A champion bodybuilder in his youth,Kanazawa stopped exercising
completely after he retired at age 34,drinking,smoking and eating whatever he liked. It wasn't
until he turned 50 that he got his motivation()to regain the perfect body of his younger
years.
Kanazawa's wife felt sick frequently, and the former bodybuilder remembered that she
had never been happier than when he won the national championship. So to please her,he
decided to return to the gym and completely change his diet.
His workout schedule had to be adjusted to his age as well.In his youth,he would spend
up to six hours training in the gym every day,and his body would recover within two days after
a particularly intensive workout, but that was not the case anymore. He cut the daily gym time
to three hours and started giving his body one week to recover after exercising every muscle
group.
Kanazawa's efforts paid off.In 2016,at the age of 80,Kanazawa defeated many
opponents and placed sixth in the world in a contest for bodybuilders over 65,and won the
admiration of the crowd.
Sport keeps this elderly man healthy,as he claims not to have suffered so much as a cold
since he started bodybuilding again at age 50.
"I want to be a super old man in the bodybuilder community,"Kanazawa said,"If I have a
goal,I can continue moving forward.I have to work much harder."

Imagine a school where students are taught by the best teachers in every subject,
regardless of location.Imagine a school where students could go on safe field trips to the
Amazon rainforest or Everest base camp.Well, such schools are already being built:in
virtual(虚拟的)reality.
Last year,Optima Academy Online,an all-virtual school, delivered courses that aim to
improve the hearts and train the minds of young people. These courses are of different levels,
attracting 170 full-time students from all over Florida. In the progress of home-schooling,
students use headsets for about three hours a day for formal lessons and then do course work
independently with digital check-ins.
Future versions()of VR will doubtless be widely used in education, but the only
questions are:for what purpose and at what speed? There are enough reasons to doubt whether
VR schools represent the future of education.Sticking a child in their bedroom with a heavy
VR headset fastened to their face and no physical social interaction with other kids will fill
many of them and their parents with horror.
A recent report concluded that digital education could significantly improve the quality
and equality of schooling systems. But if managed poorly,it could have the opposite effect,
turning a digital divide into an educational one. There is growing evidence to suggest that is
happening. In Mexico, only 24 percent of 15-year-old students in poor schools have access(
)to a home computer for schoolwork compared with 87 percent in rich ones.
Used properly, technology can be great for enabling self-motivated students to access
learning resources and connect with fellow students and teachers all over the world, says
Beeban Kidron,a member of the UK's Digital Futures Commission. The trouble is that Edtech
is too often seen as a shiny new toy that will solve all problems and save money rather than
being viewed as a different way to learn, she adds.
32.What can we learn about Optima Academy Online?
第5页,共8页
A.It has been widely accepted.

33.What does paragraph 3 focus on about VR in education?
A.The development.
B.The concerns.
C.The advantages.
D.The popularity.
34.Students in Mexico are mentioned to show
A.Mexican schooling quality has been improved
B.local schooling systems are not fully developed
C.technology access gaps may cause education inequality
D.family backgrounds shape people's views on education
35.What does Beeban Kidron think of digital education?
A.It enriches learning.
B.It's irreplaceable.
C.It needs improving.
D.It's undervalued.
