She had few friends. Although we went to the same primary school, I never, or hardly ever said in front of others that she was my sister. I was always afraid that others would laugh at me. Just two years ago, my sister and her classmates had to prepare for a show. She had to act by herself because no one wanted to act with her. “I’ll sing,” she told my parents and me when we were having dinner. I couldn’t believe my ears! How could she sing in front of the school? She even couldn’t look people in the eye. What was worse, she couldn’t speak fluently. The big day finally arrived. It took her about a minute to tell her name and class to people. I could see someone laughing at her. And some people became bored and said something in a low voice. “Why is she taking so long?” Some people around me asked. How I wished I had been somewhere else! Finally, my sister started to sing. She opened her mouth, and I was really moved—she sang so beautifully. The hall became quiet. There was only her great singing. I listened carefully to the song. I was ashamed (惭愧的) of myself. Although I hardly took her seriously as her brother, she didn’t say anything. She never took anything that I did to heart. It was then that I decided to make a change. 29. Because his sister sang poorly. B. Because the audience laughed at him. C. Because he realized he failed to act as a good brother to her. D. Because he realized that she took something he did to her heart. C Life is always changing—sometimes great, other times worrying and stressful. There are lots of benefits in accepting the unexpected and simple things you can do to make it easier to deal with life changes. There can be lots of new things that happen in your life. Some can be really positive things that you make happen yourself, like joining a club or making a new friend. However, some changes you face could make you feel worried or uncertain. They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or family life changing because of parents’ separating. They can be smaller ones like new schedules at home due to parents’ or carers’ working habits or a teacher you don’t know taking over your class. All of these things can bring up some pretty big feelings—and that’s OK. Why can it be hard to deal with? Changes can be difficult because it often brings feelings of uncertainty. Emily Hanlon is a child psychologist (someone who studies how children think, feel and behave) who explains, “Our brains like habits and usual actions. They help us feel safe. When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like entering a new place. It is like going on a surprise adventure with no map. This can make us feel nervous or afraid because we don’t know what will come next.” Changes can also be hard if you don’t feel quite ready for it, or that you are not in control of whatever is happening. Can changes be a good thing? Yes—life would be very boring if everything stayed the same all the time. Trying new things and making changes help you find what you like and dislike. For example, if you didn’t taste that new kind of ice cream, how would you know you love it? It also helps you grow and learn skills. Hanlon says, “While changes can feel frightening, it often brings new adventures, new friends, and new special abilities—well, maybe not great strengths, but surely the abilities to get back confidence and grow stronger.” 32. Which of the following is a small life change? A. A friend going away. B. You moving schools. C. Your parents separating. D. A new teacher taking over your class. 33. According to Emily Hanlon, “a surprise adventure with no map” in Paragraph 3 is used ________. A. to explain why change feels difficult B. to describe the importance of the map C. to compare changes to dangerous adventures D. to suggest ways to avoid changes and keep safe 34. What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A. Changes help you avoid new experiences. B. Changes make life full of new adventures. C. Changes make life feel boring and stressful. D. Changes help you feel sure about yourself. 35. What can we learn from the writer’s opinion on changes? A. They should be avoided at all costs. B. They should be accepted with some skills. C. They are challenging but they can improve your abilities. D. They can help us fight against uncertainty. D Although AI can bring people comfort, it still cannot match the full abilities of a human doctor. From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to solve different personal problems. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful advice from the popular chatbot. AI is changing the way people find mental health support. But can AI truly take the place of a human doctor? Around the world, 45 percent of people who needed mental treatment in 2024 did not receive it, with difficulties including cost and a shortage of doctors, according to Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon. He believes AI could help solve the shortage of mental health services. “If people can find some support and opinions by talking to a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” said Lowd. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for mental support in some ways. However, he pointed out that AI cannot completely take the place of real doctors because it doesn’t have the human side which is important for treatment. Human doctors develop a deeper understanding of people’s feelings and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more practical treatment plans. The use of AI in mental health also raises worries over its reliability (可靠性). “AI chatbots will act as doctors if asked, without any of the training or responsibility of human doctors,” said Richard Lachman, a professor in Canada. Scientists believe the key to making AI mental treatment safe is proper government control. Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that provides users with conversations through an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK’s National Health Service, following a list of strict standards. As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human mental health means finding a balance between what’s helpful and what’s dangerous. 36. Why can’t AI fully replace human doctors according to Li Yong? A. AI performs badly in treatment. B. AI treatment has the human side. C. AI can’t understand feelings deeply. D. AI can’t meet people’s needs for physical support. 37. Which of the following is TRUE about AI mental treatment? A. It can totally function as human doctors. B. Wysa’s users must meet a list of strict standards. C There’s no need to doubt or worry about its effects D. Government rules are necessary to ensure its safety. 38. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. AI can hardly be used to solve the health problems in daily life. B. AI cares for people’s mental health in a well-organized way. C. AI helps mental treatment but should be properly controlled. D. AI takes responsibility for its patients just like human doctors do. 第四部分 书面表达(共20分) 八、阅读表达(共10分,第54-56题每小题2分,第57题4分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 The path to turning a hobby into something meaningful isn’t smooth. 17-year-old Wesley Finn from a small Oregon town knows this well. At the age of 12, he started to love taking apart old toys and rebuilding them—from broken RC cars to old alarm clocks. He spent hours figuring out how cogs(齿轮) fit and why batteries power motors, and by high school, he made simple devices for his family, like a night-light phone stand. Last year, when he heard about the State High School Robotics Design Competition—where students build robots to do practical tasks, like moving small objects and avoiding barriers — he knew he had to join. But two weeks before the competition, a major issue arose (产生): The robot’s primary sensor (传感器), essential for detecting (探测) barriers, broke. Unable to afford a replacement, Wesley asked Mr. Torres, his robotics teacher, for help. Rather than buying new parts, Torres suggested reusing sensors from old robots. Over the next ten days, Wesley worked tirelessly after school, taking apart an older robot, adapting (改造) its sensor, and reprogramming (重新编程) it for better response. He also integrated (整合) his homework—applying (运用) math to calculate speed and physics to improve balance — ensuring his robot could function (发挥功能) smoothly. On the day of competition, Wesley faced a difficult task: Robots had to move three blocks between tables while avoiding barriers. At first, his robot had trouble—the old sensor was too slow and almost hit the barriers twice. Remembering Torres’ advice, he quickly used his laptop, adjusted (调整) the code to cut the sensor’s response time by half, and restarted the robot. This time, it moved around the barriers smoothly, picked up all the blocks, and placed them exactly where needed. Wesley didn’t win first—he got second—but the experience mattered more than a prize. Judges were deeply impressed by what he did that day, so they invited him to a State Robotics Lab summer program, where he’ll work with engineers on robots for people with disabilities (残疾). 39.
