Beijing helped make my dreams come true. When I studied in Beijing, it heard my voice, accompanied me through sunrise and sunset and gave me courage to move forward.
The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture.
To me, who grew up in the tropics, snow seems as attractive as the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. After a night's snow, everywhere magically becomes as beautiful as a fairy tale.
Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. Located in the outskirts (市郊) of Beijing, Beijing WTown (古北水镇) is a small town with many of the architectural features of the classical gardens in the historical city of Suzhou in eastern China. When snow fall, it looks like a perfect landscape painting. I still feel warm when I recall the scene now, and words can't adequately express my feelings at that time. A scene like this is capable of relieving any amount stress for tourists.
I love Beijing not only for its fascinating sights but also for the precious friendship I established with international students studying here. Beijing is a place where students from various countries meet. Although it often seems exciting when we meet, saying goodbye remains inevitable. Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again.
Many other moments inspire me to express my feelings to Beijing. I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will.
4. Why does the author compare snow to the forbidden fruit in paragraph 3?
A. To praise Beijing. B. To show her love of snow.
C. To describe snow. D. To state the truth of weather.
5. What does the underlined word “inevitable” in the last to second paragraph mean?
A. Unavoidable. B. Important. C. Valuable. D. Challenging.
6. What can we learn about the author according to the text?
A. She liked the sunrise and sunset in Beijing.
B. She was sensitive to the weather of Beijing.
C. She was attracted by different aspects in Beijing.
D. She felt both happy and sad in Beijing WTown.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An Unforgettable Journey B. The Snow in Beijing
C. A Beautiful City—WTown D. My Beijing Fascination
B 5. A 6. C 7. D
根据第三段中的“To me, who grew up in the tropics, snow seems as attractive as the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden.(对我来说,作为一个在热带长大的人,雪就像伊甸园中的禁果一样迷人。)”
根据倒数第二段中的“Beijing is a place where students from various countries meet. Although it often seems exciting when we meet, saying goodbye remains inevitable. Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again. (北京是一个各国学生相聚的地方。虽然我们相聚时常常令人兴奋,但说再见仍然是inevitable。尽管所有美好的事物都必须结束,但万物皆有时节,相聚的时刻还会再来。)”,结合“all good things must come to an end(所有美好的事物都必须结束)” 可知,来自不同国家的学生相聚在北京,相聚之后必然会有分别,所以说再见是“不可避免的”,所以划线单词的意思与“不可避免的”意义相近相近。故选A项。
根据第二段“The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture. (北京的美丽深深地刻在我的脑海里。在紫禁城红墙绿瓦的映衬下,晶莹的雪花从天空飘落,营造出一幅美丽而宁静的画面。)”以及第四段“Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. Located in the outskirts (市郊) of Beijing, Beijing WTown (古北水镇) is a small town with many of the architectural features of the classical gardens in the historical city of Suzhou in eastern China. When snow fall, it looks like a perfect landscape painting. (你看到 2020 - 2021 年冬天北京的第一场雪了吗?我亲眼看到并触摸到了它。位于北京市郊的古北水镇是一个具有中国东部历史名城苏州古典园林许多建筑特色的小镇。下雪的时候,它看起来就像一幅完美的山水画。)”可知,作者被北京的雪景和风景所吸引;再根据第五段中的“I love Beijing not only for its fascinating sights but also for the precious friendship I established with international students studying here. (我爱北京,不仅因为它迷人的景色,还因为我与在这里学习的国际学生建立了珍贵的友谊。)”可知,作者也被在北京所建立的友谊所吸引,由此可推断,作者被北京的不同方面所吸引。故选C项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Beijing helped make my dreams come true. When I studied in Beijing, it heard my voice, accompanied me through sunrise and sunset and gave me courage to move forward. (北京帮助我实现了梦想。当我在北京学习的时候,它倾听我的声音,陪伴我度过日出日落,给了我前进的勇气。)”以及最后一段中的“I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will. (我知道这些记忆最终会消散在时间的碎片中,但那又怎样呢?我爱北京,永远都会。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者在北京学习期间,被北京的雪景、风景以及与国际学生建立的友谊等方面所吸引,表达了作者对北京的喜爱之情,所以题目“我对北京的迷恋” 作为标题最能概括文章主旨。故选D项。
C
Each year, people buy millions of aquarium (水族箱) fish. Most of the fish species have a natural life span of at least several years. Some of them can live up to a decade or more in the wild. But somehow most of the fish died within weeks or even within hours after you had bought there. For sure, fish are weak creatures compared to us. It does not mean they died for no reason at all.
Since fish have no body heat, they are sensitive to sudden changes in water temperature. Water pH and water hardness can also affect them if there is a sudden change. Most of the quick deaths of fish are due to shock.
Tap water is not a perfect choice for aquarium fish because of the chlorine (氯) in the tap water, which can kill the fish. So the best way is to just put the tap water in the sun for a few days.
Fish need oxygen in the water. They will die if the oxygen in the aquarium runs out. Several things can cause it to happen. The aquarium is too small, that is, less water means less oxygen. The aquarium is too crowded, for the more fish you have, the more oxygen they need. The temperature is too high, because the higher the water temperature, the less dissolved oxygen.
Overfeeding the fish can cause a digestive (消化的) problem and kill the fish directly. More food than it is needed can also cause water pollution and create more harmful waste which will kill the fish too. Feed the fish only once a day, with no more food than they can eat in less than a minute. In this case, less is better.
8. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To make the article interesting. B. To bring forward the topic.
C. To state some facts about aquarium fish D. To provide some advice for the readers.
9. Why are fish sensitive to the sudden changes of water temperature?
A. Because they are warm- blooded. B. Because they are very weak.
C. Because they live in the water. D. Because they have no body heat.
10. What’s the purpose of putting tap water in the sun?
A. To warm the water. B. To let out the chlorine.
C. To kill the viruses. D. To make the water clear.
11. What can be inferred about aquarium fish?
A. They prefer high water temperature. B. They live longer in the small aquarium.
C. They can cause serious water pollution. D. They should be fed according to their need.
B 9. D 10. B 11. D
根据第一段“Each year, people buy millions of aquarium (水族箱) fish. Most of the fish species have a natural life span of at least several years. Some of them can live up to a decade or more in the wild. But somehow most of the fish died within weeks or even within hours after you had bought there. For sure, fish are weak creatures compared to us. It does not mean they died for no reason at all.(每年,人们购买数以百万计的水族馆鱼类,大多数鱼类的自然寿命至少有几年。它们中的一些能在野外生存十年甚至更久。但不知怎么的,大多数鱼在你买到之后几周甚至几小时内就死了。可以肯定的是,鱼类和我们相比是弱小的生物。这并不意味着他们毫无理由的死去)”可知,第一段主要介绍了观赏鱼买回家后会迅速死亡,结合下文可知,下文分析了其迅速死亡的原因,由此可推知,第一段的目的是为了提出本文论述的话题。故选B。
【9题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Since fish have no body heat, they are sensitive to sudden changes in water temperature.(由于鱼没有体温,它们对水温的突然变化很敏感)”可知,鱼对水温的突然变化很敏感是因为它们没有体温。
根据第三段“Tap water is not a perfect choice for aquarium fish because of the chlorine (氯) in the tap water, which can kill the fish. So the best way is to just put the tap water in the sun for a few days.(自来水对水族箱里的鱼来说并不是完美的选择,因为自来水中的氯会杀死鱼。所以最好的办法就是把自来水放在阳光下晒几天)”可知,把自来水放在阳光下的目的是为了去除水中的氯。故选B。
11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“More food than it is needed can also cause water pollution and create more harmful waste which will kill the fish too. Feed the fish only once a day, with no more food than they can eat in less than a minute. In this case, less is better.(超过所需的食物也会造成水污染,并产生更多有害废物,从而杀死鱼类。每天只喂鱼一次,食物量不要超过它们一分钟内能吃完的量。在这种情况下,少喂一些更好)”可推知,观赏鱼应该根据它们的需求来喂食,少喂一些更好。故选D。
D
You have two basic types of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Things you see or hear first enter your short-term memory. Very little of this information passes on into your long-term memory. Does this mean you have a bad memory? Not at all.
Your short-term memory has a certain job. Its job is to store information for a few seconds only. Your short-term memory is at work when you look up a phone number, call the number, and then forget it. You remembered the number just long enough to use it. Then it disappeared from your memory. That’s really a good thing. Imagine if your memory held every number, every face, and every word you ever knew!
However, some information is important to remember for a longer time. Then it must pass from short-term to long-term memory. Sometimes we tell ourselves to remember something. We might also practice it: “OK, don’t forget: 555-1212, 555-1212.” Usually, we don’t even think about it. Our brain makes the decision for us. It decides to store the information or let it go.
The brain seems to make the decision by asking two questions:
Does the information affect our emotions? That is, does it make us happy, sad, excited, or upset?
Does the information concern something we already know, so our brain can store it with something already there?
An answer of “Yes” means that the new information enters long-term memory. That means the brain creates new connections among brain cells.
Information disappears when connections among brain cells become weak. They get weak if time passes and the connections are not used. That’s why it is good to read your lecture notes soon after the class. To keep the memory of something strong, think of it often. For example, look at those lecture notes the next day. Look at them the day after that, too. Every time you think about something, the connections in the brain get stronger. Then it is easier to remember the information when you need it.
12. When is your short-term memory at work?
A. You read English words every morning.
B. What you’ve learned is reviewed after class.
C. The impression of a stranger soon disappears after you meet with him/ her.
D. You look up an important phone number and repeat it again and again.
13. What information enters long-term memory according to the passage?
A. Information affecting our emotions.
B. Information creating brain cells.
C. Information reaching you first.
D. Information concerning something unfamiliar.
14. How can we keep the long-term memory of lecture notes strong?
A. By looking at them after months. B. By referring to them regularly.
C. By putting them away after class. D. By remembering them for a long time for only once.
15. Where is the passage probably taken from?
A. A science fiction. B. A news story. C. A book review. D. A popular magazine.
C 13. A 14. B 15. D
根据第二段的“Your short-term memory has a certain job. Its job is to store information for a few seconds only. (你的短期记忆有一定的作用。它的工作是存储信息,只有几秒钟)”可知,短期记忆仅储存几秒钟的信息。由此推知,与陌生人见面后,你对他/她的印象很快就会消失,属于短期记忆起作用。故选C。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据4到7段内容“The brain seems to make the decision by asking two questions: Does the information affect our emotions? That is, does it make us happy, sad, excited, or upset? Does the information concern something we already know, so our brain can store it with something already there? An answer of “Yes” means that the new information enters long-term memory. That means the brain creates new connections among brain cells.(大脑似乎通过问两个问题来做决:“这些信息会影响我们的情绪吗?也就是说,它会让我们快乐、悲伤、兴奋还是不安?这些信息是否与我们已经知道的东西有关,所以我们的大脑可以将它与已经存在的东西存储起来?回答“是”意味着新信息进入了长期记忆。这意味着大脑在脑细胞之间建立了新的连接)”可推知,影响我们情绪的信息会进入长期记忆。故选A。
根据最后一段的“To keep the memory of something strong, think of it often. For example, look at those lecture notes the next day. Look at them the day after that, too. Every time you think about something, the connections in the brain get stronger. Then it is easier to remember the information when you need it.(要保持对某件事的记忆牢固,就要经常想起它。例如,第二天看一下那些课堂笔记。再过一天再看看他们。每当你思考某事时,大脑中的联系就会变得更强。这样当你需要的时候就更容易记住信息了)”可知,通过不断地查阅可以牢固地记住课堂笔记。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段的“You have two basic types of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Things you see or hear first enter your short-term memory. Very little of this information passes on into your long-term memory.(人的记忆有两种基本类型:短期记忆和长期记忆。你看到或听到的东西首先进入你的短期记忆。这些信息只有很少一部分会传递到你的长期记忆中)”以及下文内容可知,本文就人的记忆:短期记忆和长期记忆进行了探讨。由此推知,最有可能出现在受欢迎的杂志里,不可能是科幻小说,新闻故事和书评。故选D。

Sincerely,
Li Hua
Dear Chris,
I really don’t think using AI-generated essays for homework is a good idea.
Homework is designed to help you practice writing skills and form your own thoughts. Relying on AI means you’ll miss the chance to think deeply, and it’s not honest to your teacher. Over time, it might even make you lose confidence in your own abilities.
Why not try writing a draft first? If you’re stuck, I can give you suggestions. True progress comes from your own efforts — AI can’t replace that.
Sincerely,
Li Hua

One afternoon, Tom’s father brought home five healthy Rhode Island Red chickens and presented them to Tom. “If you take good care of them,” his father explained, “I’ll buy all the eggs they lay at market price. But remember, you’re responsible for buying their feed.” Thrilled at the opportunity to earn his own money, Tom immediately agreed, his mind already racing with plans for his new “business”.
For the first few weeks, Tom was the picture of dedication. Every morning before school, he would carefully measure out the chickens’ feed — a nutritious blend of grains and seeds recommended by the local feed store. He made sure their water was always fresh and their cage clean. The chickens, well cared for, rewarded his efforts with a steady supply of eggs—four or five each day. Tom would collect them in a small basket, and his father would pay him a fair price. Proud of his earnings, Tom started dreaming bigger. He made plans for a larger cage and even researched how to raise more chickens to increase his profits.
But as the weeks passed, Tom noticed something unsettling. The number of eggs began to drop — first to three a day, then two, and sometimes even just one. Maybe the chickens were just having an off week, he thought. But when the trend continued, worry set in. He examined each chicken carefully, checking for signs of illness or stress, but they seemed perfectly healthy. Confused and frustrated, he finally approached his father one evening after dinner.
His father listened quietly, then asked, “Think about it — have you changed anything in how you care for them?” Tom hesitated. Then it hit him. A few weeks earlier, he had decided to cut costs by switching to cheaper feed and reducing the portions slightly. He’d figured the chickens wouldn’t notice, and the savings would add up. But now, his attempt to save a few dollars had backfired.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right.

Within a week, Tom noticed a change.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A wave of guilt washing over him, Tom determined to make things right. He immediately went back to the local feed store and bought the high-quality feed he had used before. He also decided to give the chickens a bit more than the recommended amount. Every morning, he got up earlier to clean the cage more thoroughly and make sure the water was crystal clear. He spent extra time observing the chickens, talking to them gently as if to apologize for his previous neglect. He knew that it would take time for the chickens to recover, but he was patient and committed to restoring their egg laying ability.
Within a week, Tom noticed a change. The chickens seemed more energetic, pecking around the cage with enthusiasm. One morning, when he went to collect the eggs, he found three eggs in the basket. A wide smile spread across his face. As the days went by, the number of eggs gradually increased back to four or five a day. Tom was overjoyed. He realized that in business, as in life, taking shortcuts and cutting corners would only lead to failure. From then on, he was more responsible and dedicated, understanding that proper care and investment were the keys to success. His new-found wisdom would surely serve him well in his future endeavors.

One afternoon Tom’s father brought home five healthy Rhode Island Red chickens and presented them to Tom.
But as the weeks passed Tom noticed something unsettling.
