BEIJING/SAO PAULO—Chinese traditions like cockfighting,kite-flying and fireworks have been quite common in Brazil for many years.
Despite the thousands of kilometers between them,China's historical and artistic mark on Brazil has existed for about 300 years, said Brazilian Sinologist Jose Roberto Teixeira Leite in his book China in Brazil.“Influences from China can date from the colonial period, even up to the time after Brazil's independence.” The commercial relationship between the two countries has existed for a long time,he noted, adding that incoming ships would fill up Brazilian cities like Salvador,Rio de Janeiro and Recife with Chinese products like porcelain (瓷器),silk and fans.He also found Chinese influence not only in the arts and architecture of Brazil but also in the most diverse areas of Brazilian society, like the economy, medicine and popular culture.“At the end of the 19th century,in Pernambuco(a state in northeastern Brazil),there was a custom that children slept with clothes decorated with Chinese dragons,” Teixeira added.
The book took him about 15 years to finish.“The impact of the book surprised me,though it was published by a university publisher and it had a print run of just 1,000 copies,” he said.“Some have said that the book represents a turning point in Chinese studies in Brazil.”
Besides, the Sinologist did research on the marks and presence of China in the architecture and arts of Brazil.“It was through art that China awoke in me,first, curiosity, after that, interest, and finally, passion,” Teixeira said.
In 1992,the Sinologist visited Macao to do research for his doctoral thesis about the marks and presence of China in Brazil, and that trip impressed him a lot.In 2013,Teixeira had a chance to visit the Chinese cities of Beijing,Shenzhen and Shanghai, and got to know “the past and present of the great country culturally,as well as its incredible material development.”

2.What marks a new stage of Chinese studies for Brazilian?
A.Children's clothes.
B.The Sinologist's traveling.
C.The Sinologist's book.
D.China's porcelain.
3.What fired the Sinologist's passion for Chinese studies?
A.Chinese art. B.Chinese customs.
C.The history of China. D.China's development.

C.An introduction to the Sinologist's new book.
D.The future of China-Brazil trade relations.

The Monkey King, like many iconic fictional heroes—Harry Potter,Batman,Little Orphan Annie—had an unhappy childhood.Sprung from a rock on a mythical mountain,he overcame early hardships to improve his fighting skills, learning to somersault through clouds and to turn each hair on his body into a version of his warrior self. With his mix of naughtiness and might,he has a lot in common with Hollywood's many superheroes. But the Monkey King is different:he is more than 400 years old and comes from China.
Released on August 18th,a new animated version of “The Monkey King” is full of bust-ups (争吵) and slapstick (滑稽),as Monkey faces 100 demons and tries to achieve a long-lasting life. The film is the latest in a long line of adaptations of “Journey to the West”,one of the most famous novels in Chinese literature, published in 1592.But the ancient story has since conquered the world. It is a rare example of successful Chinese soft power, enduring the many ups and downs in relations between China and America.
In the past century the novel has been adapted into more than 60 films, countless TV shows, children's books, video games,a theme park and Lego toys.In May an award-winning graphic novel,American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang, which integrates the myth into a tale of teen anxiety at an American high school, was turned into a TV series by Disney.Japan has been behind several successful adaptations, including Dragon Ball,a cartoon version of the story that has sold millions of copies, and Monkey,a badly dubbed (配音) television show that became popular in Britain and Australia in the 1980s.
Each Monkey King retelling has served as a mirror on its times, reflecting the anxieties of its creators. Some interpretations have concentrated on the need for discipline to silence the inner voice.Others stress the theme of a lowly being rising to great heights.
As in all good storytelling, from Shakespeare to Star Wars, the ultimate fight in this story is for the hero's soul.Monkey King's physical journey is overlaid with a mental one—the rebellious (叛逆的) hero finally finds peace.
5.The Monkey King was similar to other heroes in novels and films EXCEPT that ____________.
A.they were unhappy as kids
B.they had strong fighting skills
C.they were naughty in nature
D.they demonstrated great power
根据第一段中 “The Monkey King, like many iconic fictional heroes—Harry Potter,Batman,Little Orphan Annie—had an unhappy childhood.” 可知,A项“他们小时候都不快乐”是相似之处;根据第一段中“With his mix of naughtiness and might,he has a lot in common with Hollywood's many superheroes.” 第一段中只提到“he overcame early hardships to improve his fighting skills”,并没有说其他英雄也有强大的战斗技能,所以B项“他们有很强的战斗技能”不是相似之处。故选B。]
6.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The latest adaptation of Journey to the West was a video game.
B.The TV series,American Born Chinese, won an award in May.
C.The Japanese cartoon adaptation,Dragon Ball,was a best-seller.
D.The popular TV show,Monkey, was set in Britain and Australia.
根据第三段中“Japan has been behind several successful adaptations, including Dragon Ball,a cartoon version of the story that has sold millions of copies”可知,日本的卡通改编作品《龙珠》非常畅销。故选C。]
7.Why do some creators adapt the story of the Monkey King?
A.To retell the ancient story.
B.To express their worries of society.
C.To praise the strict discipline.
D.To show the necessity of being an important figure.
8.What is good storytelling like according to the author?
A.The hero fights for his soul.
B.It reflects the author's times.
C.The hero finds peace at last.
D.It is about the hero's journey.
根据最后一段“As in all good storytelling, from Shakespeare to Star Wars, the ultimate fight in this story is for the hero's soul.” 故选A。]

As a child growing up in China,I was always fascinated by Kunqu,a traditional Chinese opera originating in the Ming Dynasty, also listed as the world's intangible cultural heritage.I would often watch the traditional performances with awe, enchanted by the grace and elegance of the performers on stage.
Though I loved Kunqu,I never thought I could learn it,believing it was something only the most talented and experienced could master. However, one day,my friends invited me to attend a grand Kunqu performance in Suzhou,China, which really made me feel an urge to take on the challenge and learn it.
However,my journey learning Kunqu was not easy.I had to learn the basics of the ancient art form, from the complex techniques used to create the unique vocal style to the complex hand gestures that added a sense of elegance and grace to the movements. It was not just a matter of physical training;I needed to understand the rich history and cultural significance that Kunqu represented.
My first few lessons were rough and I found myself struggling to keep up with the pace of the class.I was disappointed that I couldn't match the other classmates' skill level, and I found myself feeling discouraged. However, with countless efforts and dedication,I gradually saw improvements. My voice became stronger and more expressive, and my gestures flowed more naturally.I was fascinated by the subtle differences of the style, and began to develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty of Kunqu.
As I spent more time immersing myself in the world of Kunqu,I began to appreciate the depth of knowledge that went into each performance.Everything from the beautiful makeup and costumes to the props (道具) and music was carefully chosen to convey a particular mood or theme.I studied the classical texts that formed the basis of Kunqu, from The Song of the Pipa Player to The Peony Pavilion, working hard to understand the distinction between language and meaning within each work.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Soon,I began to perform in small shows with my fellow classmates. We would gather in a local community center or theater, dressing up in our brightly colored costumes and applying our makeup with care.I loved the feeling of stepping onto the stage in front of an audience.Every time we performed,I felt like my whole world sort of melted away and I was completely immersing myself in such an amazing opera. My voice was delicate and smooth,my movements and gestures elegant and fluent. Finally,my wonderful performances earned me a reputation as a rising star in the Kunqu community. What a great privilege to show that I was part of a centuries-old tradition that had entertained viewers for generations!
However,as my reputation grew,I desperately desired to share it with more people. I started to look for opportunities to perform in a more public setting, volunteering at local festivals and cultural events.I spoke to the audience about the history of Kunqu and what it meant to me personally, hoping to inspire others to explore the art form by themselves. As I continued to spread the word about Kunqu,I found that my efforts were paying off.More and more people were becoming interested in this traditional Chinese art form, and I began receiving invitations to perform around the world.I traveled to cities in Europe,Asia, and North America, sharing the beauty of Kunqu with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
