A
In the first year of the twenty-first century,a man standing by a busy road in the middle of the United States gave away his life savings—$30—and walked away.He was 39 years old, came from a good family, and had been to college. He was not mentally ill,nor did he have any other problems:The decision was made by a man who knew exactly what he was doing.
In the following years since then,Daniel Suelo has not earned, received,or spent a single dollar. In an era when anyone who could sign his name could get a loan,Suelo applied for nothing. As public debt kept rising,he did not accept any type of help from the government.
Instead he went to live in a cave in Utah, where he picks fruit, takes old food that has gone past its sell-by date out of bins, and is often fed by friends and strangers. While the rest of us try to deal with loans, retirement plans, and bank accounts,Suelo no longer even has an identity card.
Daniel is not a typical homeless person. He often works—but refuses to be paid.Although he lives in a cave,he is extremely social, remains close to friends and family, and has discussions with strangers on his website which he checks at the local library. He has cycled far, traveled by asking for free rides through nearly every state in the United States, worked on a fishing boat, collected shellfish from Pacific beaches, caught fish in streams in Alaska, and spent three months living in a tree after a storm.
“I know it's possible to live with zero money,” Suelo declares. And he says you can live well.

Wake up energetically at 6 am,exercise for over an hour after freshening up,and study productively throughout the day. This daily routine is frequently featured in vlogs on social media with the theme of “self-discipline (自律)”.
But when trying out such a schedule, many of us may feel exhausted. Is it just because we are lazy? Why do some people seem to have so much energy?
Genetic differences,to start with, can significantly influence our energy levels.A tiny part in our DNA called SNPs can help to explain 8.4 percent of fatigue (疲劳) cases, according to a 2018 study.A study published in the journal Nature reported that,in general, genes affect tiredness by an amount ranging from 6 to 50 percent.
Nevertheless, there's a whole lot more you can explore about your energy levels.
The food you eat gives you energy. However, there's an often-ignored element—Vitamin D.A study published in 2019 in the journal Nutrients noted that older adults with reduced Vitamin D levels experienced fatigue more than those with normal levels. You can get a sufficient amount of it by sunbathing or consuming enough Vitamin-D-rich foods, such as fish, eggs and milk.
Another analysis published in Nutrients found that eating foods high in saturated fat (饱和脂肪) is linked to excessive daytime sleepiness. These foods probably include some of your favourites:butter, cheese, ice cream, and fried foods.
Even if a workout leaves you sweaty and out of breath, exercise can actually increase your energy.“When you exercise, you release hormones like adrenaline (肾上腺素),” Sabrena Jo,an expert at the American Council on Exercise, told the Health website.“This hormone actually tells our bodies to ignore feelings of pain and fatigue while enhancing blood flow to large muscles.” This “excitement” in your body can last for several hours.
Exercise helps, but only to a point. Those who exercise too frequently may experience negative impacts on their energy levels.
It's also important to note that low energy levels could be your body's way of telling you that you have an underlying problem.Iron deficiency (缺铁) and anemia (贫血) are two examples of health conditions that can increase fatigue.
5.Why do some people seem to have more energy than others, according to the text?
A.They are strict with themselves.
B.They follow a disciplined routine.
C.They are born naturally energetic.
D.They have more SNPs to stay active.
根据第三段中“Genetic differences,to start with, can significantly influence our energy levels.A tiny part in our DNA called SNPs can help to explain 8.4 percent of fatigue cases, according to a 2018 study.”
6.What can we learn about Vitamin D?
A.We can get it by bathing in the sun.
B.Its levels are definitely lower in older adults.
C.Its effect on our energy is universally recognised.
D.The larger amount of it we get,the more energetic we will be.
根据第五段中“You can get a sufficient amount of it by sunbathing or consuming enough Vitamin-D-rich foods, such as fish, eggs and milk.” 故选A。]
7.What can be inferred about the effect of exercise on our energy levels?
A.It reduces the body's need for rest.
B.It constantly boosts our energy levels.
C.It can lead to tiredness if done too often.
D.It slows down the release of adrenaline.
根据倒数第二段“Exercise helps, but only to a point. Those who exercise too frequently may experience negative impacts on their energy levels.”
8.What might it indicate if you constantly feel low on energy?
A.You are simply lazy and lack motivation.
B.You may have some health issues that need attention.
C.You must adjust your diet and increase Vitamin D intake.
D.You should surely exercise more to boost your energy levels.
根据最后一段中“It's also important to note that low energy levels could be your body's way of telling you that you have an underlying problem.”

Dear Amy,
I'm really sorry to hear that you're worried about your health and especially frustrated about your weight gain.I totally understand how you feel.
Here are some suggestions that might help you.Firstly, you should keep a balanced diet.Try to avoid foods that are high in sugar and fat.Instead, include plenty of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains in your meals.Secondly, make sure to get enough exercise. You could go for a walk or a run every day.It would also be great if you could join a sports club or take up a favourite sport like swimming or dancing. Also, try to get enough sleep.Lack of sleep can affect your metabolism and lead to weight gain.
I believe if you follow these suggestions, you'll gradually improve your health.Hope you'll feel better soon!
Yours,
Li Hua
I was standing in the living room in my running clothes, struggling with an armband that was supposed to hold my phone.
“Wouldn't it be amazing if I could pay someone to exercise for me,and the fat would magically disappear from my body?” I said.“Thus,I wouldn't have to suffer the hard work of doing it myself.”
My husband looked at me as if I were a nut.To me,running was the worst thing in the world.Running was for athletes or people who liked to hurt themselves.Running was for anyone but me.
“Come on,Mary,” my husband said.“No one can exercise for you!You must do it yourself to lose weight and be healthy!” I nodded, trying to wear the armband again and attach my phone to it.I needed the phone to listen to music to draw my attention from how much running would hurt.I also needed it so that I could hear the computer voice of my mile tracker (追踪器) telling me my physical condition with every passing mile.
I wasn't getting any younger.Pushing myself to the limit had never before crossed my mind. But the pounds weren't exactly disappearing though I improved my eating habits and hoped for the best. The annoying weight was slowly creeping (慢慢移动) to my legs and backside.Actually,it was creeping everywhere. As my doctor put it,“It's time to put some exercise into your schedule.” My only hope for fighting against heavy weight and age would be through exercise. So here I was about to start the very thing I disliked.
“If you don't hear from me in 30 minutes, come look for me.I could be lying on the side of the road.weak or dead,” I said to my husband.
Without even looking at me,my husband said,“Mary,it really won't be so bad.You just have to get started.Believe me!You'll do great!”
“Right,” I smiled as he continued preparing for his shift.Hesitating,I walked out alone. It was dark and cold outside.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
Gathering my courage,I fired up the music and my mile tracker.

Gathering my courage,I fired up the music and my mile tracker. I began to ran.My ears and nose felt painful in the freezing weather, and the upper parts of my legs pressed each other as I struggled to run forward slowly.I wanted to turn back. But I constantly told myself,“Just keep going for another ten seconds! You need to run for your health!” Within minutes, the air seemed less cold and I focused on the steady beat of the music, letting it carry me forward.Though each step was challenging,I felt myself gradually adapting to the exercise.
Upon finishing a 25-minute run for the first time,I called my husband. I told him about my experience. He laughed and said,“As I told you, running actually isn't that frightening.” I agreed. In the following days,I kept running and always encouraged myself before heading out.Gradually,I settled into a routine of running every day.As I ran farther and farther,I grew increasingly fond of the activity.Running has enhanced not just my physical health, but other aspects of my life. While starting may be the hardest step,it is also the gateway to achieving everything we want.
