Passage 1
(24-25高二上·四川遂宁射洪射洪中学校·期末)
We have been busy working on some exciting changes to our free collection displays at Tate Britain. Discover new stories and voices alongside much-loved familiar favourites.
Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose by John Singer Sargent
In Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose (1885) John Singer Sargent paints two children from life as they light Chinese lanterns in a garden of flowers on a twilit summer evening. It took almost a year to finish, probably because he could only paint for a few minutes every evening when the light was exactly right.
Ophelia by Sir John Everett Millais, Baronet
Ophelia (1851) is a visitor favourite, our top-selling postcard and one of the most popular Pre-Raphaelite works in Tate’s collection. Millais painted the tragic death of Shakespeare’s Ophelia in painstaking detail over many months. Artist, poet and model Elizabeth Siddal posed for the painting, wearing a wedding dress in a bathtub of water in Millais’s studio.
Norham Castle, Sunrise by JMW Turner
Norham Castle, Sunrise (1845) is an unfinished painting created late in JMW Turner’s career. Turner saw the castle during his first tour of Northern Britain and painted the scene many times in his life.
Dreams Have No Titles by Zineb Sedira
Dreams Have No Titles (2022) is a film combining the artist’s life story with fiction and documentary and using non-professional actors. Sedira, her parents, son and friends all appear in this film about community and connection. It was made during the 60th anniversary of Algeria’s independence from French occupation.

Passage 2
(23-24高二上·四川成都石室中学·期末)
Motoring writer, Simon Heptinstall once said that the most interesting thing about cars isn’t the car at all. Is it true that the motorists make better stories than their motors? Here are 3 stories to help make your own decision.
Henry Ford built the Quadricycle
In 1896, the great inventive engineer Henry Ford finished building his first car, called the Quadricycle, in a small shed behind his house. He became one of the world’s most successful businessmen later — but this time he had badly miscalculated. The completed Quadricycle wouldn’t fit out through the door. He’d built it bigger than the width of the door. Henry had to use an axe to chop out the doorframe to make the opening wider. Then he could ultimately get his pioneering creation out for its first drive. It is now an exhibit in Henry Ford Museum.
Noel Gallagher forgot buying a car
Millionaire rock star Noel Gallagher forgot he’d bought a brand — new classic car for £110,000. The former guitarist was puzzled when a Jaguar Mark Ⅱ arrived at his house on a delivery truck. It turned out he had ordered it two years previously. At the time he ordered it he had hoped to learn to drive — but never got round it. He forgot the whole thing, and the car still sits unused in his garage.
Maria Mugno made her car hairy
According to the Guinness Book of Records the world’s hairiest car is a Fiat 50 owned by Maria Mugno of Salerno in Italy. The Italian hairdresser has spent hundreds of hours importing bags of human hair from India, because she claims the hair is stronger. She then sticks the locks onto every surface of the car, inside and out. Her furry Fiat is still road-illegal however.
4.What is the most interesting thing about cars according to Simon?
A.The drivers. B.The price. C.The speed. D.The appearance.
5.What do the three cars have in common?
A.They are Guinness record holders. B.They are invented by their owners.
C.They are not permitted to go on road. D.They are not in use for certain reasons.

Passage 7
(24-25高二上·四川绵阳三台中学校·期末)
Kids generally like Labor Day because they’re off school. But do they know what they’re celebrating every first Monday in September? Sure, we can explain how it’s the holiday devoted to American workers. However, there might be a better way to teach them about it with these ideas.
Write thank-you letters
Labor Day celebrates the labor movement and workers here in our great country. Even little ones can thank our nation’s hardest workers during this holiday weekend. Help your child write a thank-you card to a worker they admire and then deliver it by hand or by mail.
Have a sing-along with friends
Rally(召集) the kids and lead them in an epic American sing-along to celebrate our country and its amazing workers. Be sure to have a loud speaker on hand and print out words for the children to follow along. Don’t be alarmed if the gathering turns into a completely developed dance party!
Make footprint vehicles
Ask the kids to think of some of the vehicles our nation’s workers use to do their jobs. Paint the bottom of your child’s foot with washable paint and help them make a footprint on a piece of paper. Give them markers to help them turn their footprint into their favorite worker vehicle. So cute!
Create a career mobile
Buy or make a hanging photo mobile, and have the kids add photos of American workers. Ask the children what they want to be when they grow up — place their dream career in the center and hang others off to the sides.
20.When would Labor Day most probably be celebrated in the US.?
A.May 1st. B.September 2nd.
C.September 19th. D.May 4th.
21.Which activity will help kids get along with each other?

6.Where is this text probably taken from?
A.An engineering textbook. B.A car advertisement.
C.An automobile magazine. D.An academic article.

Perfectly situated on the Gulf of Mexico, in southwest Florida, Naples is well known and loved for not only its beautiful beaches and blue water, but also all of the family-friendly activities and outdoor fun. Here are the four best beaches in Naples.
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
This grand state park offers breathtaking Gulf of Mexico views. It is also a home for an incredible diversity of wildlife including sea turtles and many different birds. If you have courage and a sense of wonder, you might even div e into the water and swim with dolphins! Visit early, especially in the busy tourist seasons, to avoid crowds and find a parking spot.
Vanderbilt Beach Park
It is perfect for little ones who love to play in the sand, build sandcastles, and cool off in the gentle waves. With easy access to many lovely hotels as well as shopping and restaurants, this beach is fun for bird watching, paddle boarding, and swimming. Free life jackets are available for little ones. The best time to visit, however, is sunset—arrive early to get a fantastic viewing spot.
Clam Pass Beach
It is family-friendly with three miles of sugary sand and calm water. The long boardwalk and nature trail(路线) are a bit of an effort to be sure, but most folks love the adventurous experience. It’s beautiful on either side of the raised wooden path and if you look closely, you can spot butterflies, coastal birds, and other wildlife hiding in the forests. Seashell hunters should arrive early for the best find.
Keewaydin Island Beach
Off the coast of Naples, Keewaydin Island can only be accessed by boat. From wild pigs to bobcats, white-tailed deer, tortoises, and iguanas, there’s much to see here on this island that is mostly undeveloped. The sightseeing boat tour leaves from Naples or Marco Island.
