What did the study show? A. Less than half changed their emotion. B. Only half were anxious. C. 85% handled anxiety well. 19. What may happen when you are under stress? A. Planning your journey ahead. B. Ignoring some important details. C. Waiting to be called by friends. 20. What is the speaker’s last suggestion? A. Focus on something else. B. Skip your normal routine. C. Avoid searching for symptoms online. A 19. B 20. W: Not so long ago, I had a couple of physical checkups, which thankfully turned out to be nothing serious. But for those ten long days while I was waiting for the results, I was a nervous wreck. Frankly, I could have handled it better. Don’t Be Hard on Yourself We all cope differently in times of stress. A 2017 US study of people waiting for medical results found that just under half reported a “change in emotional state” — and 85 percent of this group said they were anxious. Check the Small stuff If you’re expecting a phone call, check which number you’ll be called on and at approximately what time. If you have an in-person appointment, plan your journey in advance. It sounds obvious, but it’s these all important details that tend to slip through the net, particularly when we’re under stress. Try to Distract Yourself Sticking to your normal routine is usually the best option. Being physically active gives your brain something else to focus on, which helps lower stress and anxiety levels. Don’t Consult “Dr. Google” Every time a scary new thought pops into your head, it’s all too easy to start googling symptoms and potential outcomes. But remember, whatever information you find online won’t be specific to your situation and could well be inaccurate or misleading. A Are you looking for some movies? You’ve landed on the right place. Let’s take a look at the list I’ve collected. A Beautiful Mind A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for his Game Theory. This movie brings his whole journey on screen — from his beginning to his downhill ride. The first half is all about his rise to fame while the second half shows how he slowly falls into madness. After many years of fighting, he finally is victorious. I.Q. The story is about an auto mechanic who falls for Albert Einstein’s niece. The only problem is that she is engaged (已订婚的) to someone else. Fortunately, Einstein likes him. The young man pretends to be a physicist to run after her, but things don’t go as he has planned. If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It’s a light drama that is funny and heartwarming for the most part. Good Will Hunting Good Will Hunting is a touching tale of a troubled young man called Will Hunting who is gifted with a natural talent in mathematics. However, he is struggling to find his identity. He can solve any math problem, but not the one he seems to be struggling with in his life. His life seems to be getting only worse until one day he meets Sean, a therapist, who helps him find direction in life. Creation Creation is a story of a famous scientist, Charles Darwin, best known for his Theory of Evolution. This movie attempts to bring his struggling days into focus, the time when he was dealing with the loss of his daughter and was suffering from hallucinations (幻觉). At the same time, he was working on a book called On the Origin of Species, which he finally completed. All in all, Creation is a great historical drama. 21. If you are interested in a relaxing movie, which one can you see? A. I.Q B. Creation C. A Beautiful Mind D. Good Will Hunting 22. Who are experts in mathematics? A. Will Hunting and Sean. B. John Nash and Will Hunting. C. Charles Darwin and Sean. D. John Nash and Charles Darwin. 23. What’s the main purpose of the text? A. To introduce movies. B. To promote science. C. To recommend actors. D. To compare movies. A 22. B 23. 根据I.Q部分“If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It’s a light drama that is funny and heartwarming for the most part. (如果《美丽心灵》对你来说有点沉重,那么《智商》将是你的完美选择。这是一部轻松的戏剧,在很大程度上既有趣又温暖人心)”可知,I.Q是一部轻松的戏剧,适合让人放松。故选A。 根据A Beautiful Mind部分“A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for his Game Theory. (《美丽心灵》讲述了约翰·纳什的故事,他是一位数学家,后来凭借博弈论获得了诺贝尔奖)”和Good Will Hunting部分“Good Will Hunting is a touching tale of a troubled young man called Will Hunting who is gifted with a natural talent in mathematics. (《心灵捕手》是一个感人的故事,讲述了一个名叫Will Hunting的陷入困境的年轻人,他天生有数学天赋)”可知,John Nash和Will Hunting是数学家。故选B。 【23题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“Are you looking for some movies? You’ve landed on the right place. Let’s take a look at the list I’ve collected.( 你在找电影吗?你找对地方了。让我们看看我收集的清单)”可知,这篇文章主要是给读者介绍一些电影。故选A。 B In Katmai National. Park, a mother bear and her cub walk toward us, then sit down and nap, completely at ease with us being around. And the feeling is shared. My husband, nervous about being near such large predators (捕食者) an hour ago, now relaxes so much that he falls asleep in the grass too. The Katmai coast can only be reached by air or sea. Its faraway location helps keep bear viewing safe. Our guide, Bachrach, tells us that the common view of bears as violent predators killing for meat actually only shows part of the picture. The Katmai spring sees bears feast on plants and dig for shellfish during low tide. From late June to September, they move to salmon-filled rivers for the salmon, but they also keep eating grass and berries. Each time we spot a bear, Bachrach reminds us to read its behavior. If the bear appears relaxed, we can watch for a while from a safe distance. As responsible visitors, we must never let it get too close, and never let even a bit of our food fall to the ground. Bachrach learned this the hard way after a bear entered a cabin and stayed near the door for days, expecting more after finding fruit. Besides, we must also avoid disturbing the bears while they feed. As they drink along the river, we carefully move around them. “What do you think people get out of seeing bears?” I ask Bachrach. “I’ve watched visitors go from hesitant to amazed, then comfortable, and then observant and thoughtful. Hopefully they learn to share space with wild animals. Those who don’t learn to share don’t grow alongside each other. And those who share, do,” he says. 24. Why does the husband fall asleep? A. He is uninterested in bears. B. He doesn’t want to disturb the bears. C. He enjoys the author’s company. D. He feels safe in the environment. 25. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Bears’ attacking behavior. B. Katmai’s faraway location. C. Bears’ different diets. D. Katmai’s changing seasons. 26. What should a responsible bear visitor do? A. Follow bears closely. B. Share food with bears. C. Talk to bears. D. Watch bears only. 27. What does Bachrach hope people learn from bear viewing? A. To live in peace with wildlife. B. To survive in the wild. C. To increase space for wildlife. D. To look after bears thoughtfully. D 25. C 26. D 27. 根据第一段中“My husband, nervous about being near such large predators (捕食者) an hour ago, now relaxes so much that he falls asleep in the grass too.(我的丈夫一个小时前还因为靠近这么大型的捕食者而紧张,现在放松得在草地上也睡着了)”可知,作者的丈夫之前因为靠近大型捕食者而紧张,但现在他感到非常放松,以至于在草地上睡着了。 根据第二段内容“The Katmai coast can only be reached by air or sea. Its faraway location helps keep bear viewing safe. Our guide, Bachrach, tells us that the common view of bears as violent predators killing for meat actually only shows part of the picture. The Katmai spring sees bears feast on plants and dig for shellfish during low tide. From late June to September, they move to salmon-filled rivers for the salmon, but they also keep eating grass and berries.(只能乘飞机或乘船到达卡特迈海岸。 根据第三段中“As responsible visitors, we must never let it get too close, and never let even a bit of our food fall to the ground.(作为负责任的游客,我们决不能让它靠得太近,也决不能让我们的食物掉到地上)”和“Besides, we must also avoid disturbing the bears while they feed.(此外,我们还必须避免在熊进食时打扰它们)”可知,作为负责任的观熊者,应该保持与熊的安全距离,不要让食物掉落到地上,同时避免在熊进食时打扰它们。 根据最后一段中Bachrach的话“Hopefully they learn to share space with wild animals. Those who don’t learn to share don’t grow alongside each other. And those who share, do, (希望他们学会与野生动物共享空间。那些不学会分享的人不会共同成长。而那些学会分享的人会)可知,Bachrach希望人们从观熊中学会与野生动物共享空间,共同成长,和平共处。故选A项。 C Randall Munroe, who used to work on robots at NASA, explains science in a fun and easy- to-understand way in his book What If? Once you get used to his unique writing style, you can go on many amazing trips with him and learn while laughing. And you will certainly learn. There is a sort of joy in getting real answers to the strange questions Munroe is sent every day. However unusual the topics are, Randall takes them seriously. For example, if you set a meat-eating dinosaur (恐龙) free in New York City, how many humans would it have to eat to meet its need each day? Munroe thinks New York could support about 350 dinosaurs. That’s good to know, but we hope we don’t need to use this information. The book’s cover is a full-size picture of what the Earth would look like if the oceans were removed. The back has some interesting facts you might want to know before buying it (eating the book would give you about 2,300 calories (卡路里) if you could take in paper). Thanks, Randall! Although Munroe knows a lot and can perfectly explain the science behind the questions, What If? is not a textbook. When asked what would happen when you threw a baseball at light-speed, he says there would be a shockwave expanding (膨胀) outwards, and quickly moves on. He is answering the question after all, but if you are looking for detailed classroom- style descriptions of what Munroe is talking about, you’re out of luck. But that’s what makes it great. What If? is light enough to attract you, but deep enough to make you curious about science one chapter at a time. If you’re willing to go along with Munroe’s ideas and guesses, you’re in for an exciting journey of the mind. 28. What can be found in the book What If? A. Stories of fun journeys. B. Pictures of the oceans. C. Latest scientific experiments. D. Discussions of unreal situations. 29. How does Munroe deal with the questions in his book? A. He offers direct answers. B. He pays no attention. C. He recommends textbooks. D. He digs into many possibilities. 30. What is Munroe’s writing style like? A. Formal and detailed. B. Light but confusing. C. Humorous and educational. D. Imaginative but unclear. 31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. What If?: A Collection of Funny Science Jokes B. What If?: A Scientific Adventure with Munroe C. What If?: A Guidebook on Healthy Eating Habits D. What If?: A Question-based Book about Life 【答案】28. D 29. A 30. C 31. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了兰德尔·门罗所著《那些古怪又让人忧心的问题》一书,包括其内容、写作风格以及与读者的互动方式等。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“However unusual the topics are, Randall takes them seriously. For example, if you set a meat-eating dinosaur (恐龙) free in New York City, how many humans would it have to eat to meet its need each day?( 无论话题多么不寻常,兰德尔都会认真对待。例如,如果你在纽约市放生一只食肉恐龙,它每天需要吃多少人类才能满足需求?)”可知,书中讨论了一些不切实际的情况,如恐龙在纽约市需要吃多少人类等。因此,在《那些古怪又让人忧心的问题》这本书中可以发现对不切实际情况的讨论。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Although Munroe knows a lot and can perfectly explain the science behind the questions, What If? is not a textbook. When asked what would happen when you threw a baseball at light-speed, he says there would be a shockwave expanding (膨胀) outwards, and quickly moves on. (虽然门罗知道很多,并且可以完美地解释这些问题背后的科学,但《那些古怪又让人忧心的问题》不是教科书。当被问及以光速投掷棒球会发生什么时,他说会有一个冲击波向外膨胀,然后很快就继续讲其他内容了)”可知,门罗对于书中的问题给出了直接的答案,并没有深入探讨或推荐教科书等。因此,门罗在书中处理问题的方式是直接给出答案。故选A项。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Randall Munroe, who used to work on robots at NASA, explains science in a fun and easy- to-understand way in his book What If? (兰德尔·门罗曾在NASA从事机器人工作,他在《那些古怪又让人忧心的问题》一书中以有趣且易于理解的方式解释科学)”和“Once you get used to his unique writing style, you can go on many amazing trips with him and learn while laughing. (一旦你习惯了他独特的写作风格,你就可以和他一起踏上许多奇妙的旅程,在欢笑中学习)”可知,门罗的写作风格既幽默又富有教育意义。故选C项。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其结合第一段“Randall Munroe, who used to work on robots at NASA, explains science in a fun and easy- to-understand way in his book What If? Once you get used to his unique writing style, you can go on many amazing trips with him and learn while laughing.(兰德尔·门罗曾在NASA从事机器人工作,他在《那些古怪又让人忧心的问题》一书中以有趣且易于理解的方式解释科学。 D Oleg Kononenko has become the first human to achieve 1,000 days of spaceflight over a 16-year career visiting and living on the International Space Station (ISS). The achievement comes on his fifth flight to space and during his third term as the commander of the ISS. He will become one of the most valuable human biology specimens (生物标本) in the world. Given that both the Artemis Accords and the International Lunar Research Station initiative (倡议) aim to send men and women on longer and longer missions to space, including semi-permanent (半永久的) habitation of the moon and eventually a journey to Mars, scientists need to understand what long-term presence in outer space will do to the human body. To that end, Kononenko, who has routinely spent many hundreds of continuous days and even years in low-Earth orbit, will be providing data points “days, months and years,” after his return, says Emmanuel Urquieta, the former chief medical officer of the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), led by Baylor College of Medicine. Urquieta explains that medicine in space is a growing field, and that the effects of the space environment on eye health, bone loss, and blood flow are not well understood, nor are the impacts of long-term radiation exposure (辐射暴露) and space sickness. “I’m sure that there will be a lot of research coming up in the future when he comes back to Earth and I’m sure that there will be a very long follow-up with him, you know, days, months, and years after, to try really to understand these very unique data points,” Urquieta says. “When you project the data that we have from six-month missions to 900 days, there’s still a huge gap of data that we need to address so that we can safely say that, ‘OK, we have enough data that we can confidently say that we’re able to send someone to Mars and make sure that that person is going to come back as healthy as he or she left Earth.’” 32. What do we know about Kononenko? A. He contributed to the establishment of the ISS. B. He discovered a valuable biology specimen. C. He set a record for the most time in space. D. He completed three space flights in 16 years. 33. What do the underlined words “To that end” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. To improve life support systems in space. B. To explore the potential for lunar habitation. C. To select astronauts for a journey to Mars. D. To study the effects of living in space. 34. What can be concluded about Kononenko from the last two paragraphs? A. His long-term data will be crucial. B. He will conduct new space missions. C. He will inspire confidence in others. D. His career will be fruitful. 35. What is the best title for the text? A. Increased Focuses on Spaceflight Safety Concerns B. New Opportunities for Space Health Studies C. Future Possibilities for Space Travel D. Big Challenges in Space Exploration 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. A 35. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了宇航员奥列格·科诺年科在太空飞行中创造了累计1000天的新纪录,以及这一成就对未来长期太空探索(如月球和火星任务)的重要意义。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“Oleg Kononenko has become the first human to achieve 1,000 days of spaceflight over a 16-year career visiting and living on the International Space Station (ISS).(奥列格·科诺年科成为首位在16年的国际空间站访问和生活中累计完成1000天太空飞行的人类)”可知,奥列格·科诺年科创造了在太空累计飞行时间最长的记录。故选C项。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Given that both the Artemis Accords and the International Lunar Research Station initiative (倡议) aim to send men and women on longer and longer missions to space, including semi-permanent (半永久的) habitation of the moon and eventually a journey to Mars, scientists need to understand what long-term presence in outer space will do to the human body.(鉴于《阿尔忒弥斯协议》和国际月球研究站倡议都旨在将男女宇航员送入太空执行越来越长的任务,包括在月球的半永久性居住,并最终前往火星,科学家需要了解长期处于外太空会对人体产生什么影响)”和第三段中“To that end, Kononenko, who has routinely spent many hundreds of continuous days and even years in low-Earth orbit, will be providing data points “days, months and years,” after his return, says Emmanuel Urquieta, the former chief medical officer of the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), led by Baylor College of Medicine.(To that end,美国国家航空航天局资助的贝勒医学院领导的太空健康转化研究机构 (TRISH) 前首席医疗官伊曼纽尔·乌尔基塔表示,科诺年科将在返回后提供“数天、数月甚至数年”的数据点,他经常在低地球轨道连续飞行数百天甚至数年)”可知,第二段提到科学家需要了解长期处于外太空会对人体产生什么影响,第三段提到科诺年科将提供相关数据,故可推测第三段中划线短语“To that end”指的是“为了研究太空生活的影响”。故选D项。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““I’m sure that there will be a lot of research coming up in the future when he comes back to Earth and I’m sure that there will be a very long follow-up with him, you know, days, months, and years after, to try really to understand these very unique data points,” Urquieta says.(乌尔基塔说:“我相信,当他回到地球后,未来会有很多研究,而且我相信,在他回来后的几天、几个月甚至几年里,都会对他进行非常长时间的跟踪研究,以真正了解这些非常独特的数据点。”)”和最后一段““When you project the data that we have from six-month missions to 900 days, there’s still a huge gap of data that we need to address so that we can safely say that, ‘OK, we have enough data that we can confidently say that we’re able to send someone to Mars and make sure that that person is going to come back as healthy as he or she left Earth.’”(“当你将我们从为期6个月的任务中获得的数据推算到900天时,我们仍然需要解决大量的数据缺口,这样我们才能放心地说,‘好吧,我们有足够的数据,我们可以自信地说,我们能够将人类送上火星,并确保他们能像离开地球时一样健康地返回。’”)”可知,科诺年科的长期数据对于理解太空生活对人体的影响至关重要,对于未来火星任务的安全评估具有决定性意义。故选A项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“Oleg Kononenko has become the first human to achieve 1,000 days of spaceflight over a 16-year career visiting and living on the International Space Station (ISS).(奥列格·科诺年科成为首位在16年的国际空间站访问和生活中累计完成1000天太空飞行的人类)”、第四段“Urquieta explains that medicine in space is a growing field, and that the effects of the space environment on eye health, bone loss, and blood flow are not well understood, nor are the impacts of long-term radiation exposure (辐射暴露) and space sickness.(乌尔基塔解释说,太空医学是一个不断发展的领域,太空环境对眼睛健康、骨质流失和血液流动的影响还不太清楚,长期辐射暴露和太空病的影响也不太清楚)”和第五段““I’m sure that there will be a lot of research coming up in the future when he comes back to Earth and I’m sure that there will be a very long follow-up with him, you know, days, months, and years after, to try really to understand these very unique data points,” Urquieta says.(乌尔基塔说:“我相信,当他回到地球后,未来会有很多研究,而且我相信,在他回来后的几天、几个月甚至几年里,都会对他进行非常长时间的跟踪研究,以真正了解这些非常独特的数据点。”)”可知,文章主要讲述了奥列格·科诺年科在太空飞行方面的成就以及他将为人类太空生物学研究提供重要数据,这为太空健康研究提供了新的机会。故B项“New Opportunities for Space Health Studies(太空健康研究的新机遇)”最符合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选B项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A lot of kids and adults say they get nervous during social situations. I always enjoyed long journeys in my father’s car with my family. However, things went different that time. We were moving to a new town, not for any tourist destination, but to settle down, for my father had a new job there. My mother, sitting on the passenger seat in the front, was talking with my father. She looked excited for the coming new life. But I was down, feeling nervous about starting a new school life. Entering a new school meant adapting to a completely different environment and meeting new classmates and teachers, which I was not good at. On my first day at the new school, I felt lost and out of place. The students already knew each other well, and they chatted happily during breaks. I missed my old friends terribly and wished I could go back to my old school. Feeling lonely. I often spent time alone during breaks and after classes, reading books in the library or drawing pictures in the art room. I missed the good days I had with my old friends and longed for that sense of belonging. As the days went by, I still found it hard to fit in. I was shy and found it difficult to strike up conversations with my classmates. Some of the kids in my class noticed my discomfort and tried to be friendly, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling of being an outsider. I only had words with my desk mate, Alex, when necessary. Things took a turn for the worse when I knocked off Alex’s water bottle by accident, although I picked up the bottle immediately and apologized to him. He got mad at me and seemed not to forgive me. Soon I found we were avoiding each other. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答. However, I was assigned to pair up with Alex to design a poster. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Alex proudly introduced that the fantastic picture was drawn by me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】However, I was assigned to pair up with Alex to design a poster. Reluctantly, we started working together. I was worried that working with Alex would be very difficult because of our previous relationship. But to my surprise, as the work progressed, we found that we shared many common interests. We put a lot of efforts into the drawings and texts, and finally we completed a quite outstanding poster. Alex seemed to forgive me. He appreciated my efforts and began to care about my feelings. The teacher highly praised our work and our classmates were amazed at the picture on the poster. Alex proudly introduced that the fantastic picture was drawn by me. I smiled shyly but happily as my classmates crowned me and gave me a thumbs-up. Slowly but surely, I started feeling more comfortable in my new school. I made new friends, including Alex, and began to participate in activities in and after classes. By the end of the school year, I had fully adapted to the new environment. B In Katmai National. C Randall Munroe, who used to work on robots at NASA, explains science in a fun and easy- to-understand way in his book What If? 31 Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. What If?: A Collection of Funny Science Jokes B. What If?: A Scientific Adventure with Munroe C. What If?: A Guidebook on Healthy Eating Habits D. What If?: A Question-based Book about Life D Oleg Kononenko has become the first human to achieve 1,000 days of spaceflight over a 16-year career visiting and living on the International Space Station (ISS).
