Dear Michael,
How’s your vacation? I’m visiting my uncle in Spain. He lives in the sunny and beautiful city of Valencia, Spain. I enjoy my life here. What an amazing city it is!
Yesterday, I had great fun. My uncle took me to the tomato festival in Bunol, which is just 30 miles away from where my uncle lives. Maybe you have never heard of this festival before. Neither have I. My uncle told me that the tomato festival is called “La Tomatina” in Spanish. It has the biggest and messiest (最凌乱的) tomato fight in the world.
When we first got to the square where the festival would take place, the square was full of people from all over the world, and many trucks were carrying tomatoes. My uncle told me the number of people there was around 38,000 and this was more than four times the population of Bunol.
When the fight began, everyone including me started throwing tomatoes at each other. People must squash (压扁) the tomatoes before throwing them in order not to hurt anybody.
After a little while, the streets, people and nearby buildings were covered with red. There was no winner in this fight, but we all had fun. I wish you were there, too.

Language teachers are always looking for new ways to encourage students to practise speaking in class. One way is to show students photos and ask them to talk about what they see.
A free learning website has begun publishing (刊登) a special photo every Monday. It invites teachers to use these photos to discuss with their students. They call this part “What’s going on in this picture?” The website suggests that teachers should ask two questions: The first is “What is going on in this picture?” The second is “What else can you find?” Readers can post comments* on what they think is happening in the photo. Later each week, the website will provide a description of the photo for teachers.
As a student, you can use this method to practise new grammar points with a partner. For example, look at the picture on the right. It is about a man putting out a fire. He is climbing a long ladder high in the air. Then, you can ask questions. For example, if you are studying the tense (时态), you can ask your partner, “What is he doing?”
In other ways, you can use your creative thinking to make this game more interesting. Here are some ideas. For example, show only part of a photo and ask, “What do you think this photo is about?” Then slowly show more and more of the photo until all of it is seen. Besides, you can also write a description of the photo together after discussing it. When you have finished, read your stories to each other.
If you try this activity, you will find that the old saying is true: A picture is worth a thousand words.
*The word “comments” means words and sentences that express a personal opinion or add information.
28. What can language teachers do with the photos provided on the website?
A. Encourage students to practise speaking. B. Teach students how to take photos.
C. Ask students to write a story about the photos. D. Help students enjoy the beauty of the photos.
29. According to the picture, if you are studying the preposition (prep.) (介词), what question can you ask?
A. Who is the man? B. Where is the man?
C. How old is the man? D. How long is the ladder?
30. How does the writer end the passage?

VII. 任务型阅读:
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
In recent years, the idea of flying cars has moved from science fiction to real life. These cars, often called VTOL aircraft, are designed to combine the advantages of cars and the speed of airplanes. Some technology companies are working hard to develop them, hoping to change the way we travel in cities.
Flying cars use new technologies such as electric power, self-driving systems and tools to avoid accidents. They can take off and land in small spaces. This makes them perfect for busy cities. Imagine a future where you can avoid traffic by flying from your home to your school or workplace in much less time!
However, there are still challenges. Safety is a big problem because flying cars must share the sky with other airplanes and avoid obstacles (障碍物) . Laws and rules also need to be developed to control their uses. Besides, the cost of these cars must be lowered so that more people can afford them.
Although there are problems to solve, flying cars are good for our lives. For example, they could reduce traffic, lower pollution, and help emergency services reach places faster. They could also change how cities are planned. For example, buildings become taller instead of spreading out.

C How old is the man? D. How long is the ladder?
30. How does the writer end the passage?
A. By using a saying. B. By telling a joke.
C. By giving an example. D. By asking a question.

Flying cars are an exciting new idea of travel. As technology improves, the dream of flying cars may soon become a normal part of our lives.
