By nationality. C. By interest. D. By age. 3. How many hours of class will you have altogether if you register for a single week? A. 15. B. 21. C. 30. D. 42. B Last weekend, I took my 4-year-old grandson Oliver to the park. He had been pestering (纠缠) me to take him to the park to watch the ducks in the pond; I finally realized his wish. I went in thinking I’d be the teacher to teach him about the ducks, but that day, Oliver ended up teaching me more. He had no goals. 4-year-olds don’t need goals. As soon as we stepped 50 feet into the park, Oliver looked up at the sky, where big soft clouds moved slowly. He stood still, smiling, and found real joy in watching them. I’d long forgotten clouds’ magic: My mind was filled with things to do, but watching their slow movement could be soothing and reduce my worries and nervousness. Next, Oliver focused on the big trees, laughing as their branches shook in the wind. When a small bird jumped on the grass, he ran after it, laughing as though it were the funniest thing in the world. In that moment, nothing else mattered to him. His curiosity never disappeared, especially when it came to fallen leaves. He hunted for them, big and small, treating each one like a treasure. He only saw them as tools for play. No screens or toys were needed. Nearby, kids played with their parents, and dog walkers passed by. Oliver waved at everyone, holding out his hand for high fives with 4-and 5-year-olds, who smiled and said hi back. His mix of real words and kid talk didn’t stop him — he just wanted to connect, without judgment, or fear. The biggest lesson hit me then: live in the moment. He never asked the time, when we’d leave, or what would be next. Whether he was running after sticks, petting a dog, or running across the grass, he was entirely in the moment. That hour with Oliver reminded me of the wonder we lose as adults, and of many things we can learn from a child’s simple, unplanned joy. 4. Why did the author take Oliver to the park? A. To clean the park. B. To feed the ducks. C. To act as a teacher. D. To watch the ducks. 5. What does the underlined word “soothing” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Dangerous. B. Confusing. C. Comforting. D. Changeable. 6. What do we know about Oliver from paragraph 3? A. He was afraid of meeting people. B. He had fun playing toys in the park. C. He had a strong curiosity about fallen leaves. D. He didn’t get along well with other children in the park. 7. What can we learn from the text? A. Knowledge is power. B. Now is all that counts. C. Friendship comes from getting together. D. Nothing is more important than education. C When you think about your relationship with your parents, how would you describe it? Are you satisfied with it, or would you wish for something more? For many, the relationship with their parents is not perfect, and it may even feel distant (疏远的). I once hoped that my parents would be my best friends—people I could talk to openly, share my thoughts with, and have meaningful discussions with. However, the reality was very different. Our relationship was often filled with shouting and misunderstandings. We hardly had calm, meaningful conversations. Instead, there were months when we didn’t talk at all because there was nothing to say. For many years, from my teenage years to my late twenties, this was my reality. But things began to change when I decided to make an effort (努力) to improve the relationship. Now, at 30, my relationship with my parents has improved greatly. We communicate openly, without anger, and show concern for each other in a way that feels natural. Improving the relationship with your parents takes time. It is not a quick fix. When I first started, my efforts and apology(道歉) seemed pointless. For example, when I tried to hold my mom into my arms, she pushed me away. My dad didn’t give me a love sign. But I didn’t give up. I realized that improving a relationship is not about fixing a single argument; it’s about repairing years of misunderstandings and miscommunications. To truly improve your relationship with your parents understand that it’s a long journey. It will not happen overnight, and you may not see results immediately. In my case, it took years of efforts. I had to show my parents that I had changed, not through words, but through actions. They slowly began to react (做出回应), but the process was slow and required patience. So, if you’re facing problems with your parents, remember that it’s normal. Start by seeing the situation as a long journey. It may not be easy, but if you keep trying and give it time, your relationship can get better. Be patient and stick to the process. 8. What was the author’s early relationship with her parents like? A. Terrible. B. Peaceful. C. Special. D. Close. 9. How did the author’s parents first react to her efforts? A. They accepted them warmly. B. They paid little attention to them. C. They were surprised and moved. D. They apologized for their misunderstandings. 10. What may the author consider most important in improving the parent-child relationship? A. Making apologies. B. Open conversations. C. Understanding each other. D. Long-term efforts and patience. 11. Why does the author write the text? A. To look back on the past. B. To give thanks to her parents. C. To offer suggestions to others. D. To describe a common social problem. D A good many facts show that it is more difficult to learn a new language as an adult than as a child, which has led scientists to think that there is a “critical (关键的) period” for language learning. However, the length of this period and its main causes remain unknown. A new study performed at MIT suggests that children remain very skilled at learning the grammar of a new language much longer than expected — up to the age of 17 or 18. However, the study also found that it is nearly impossible for people to achieve fluency similar to that of a native (本地的) speaker unless they start learning a language by the age of 10. “If you want to have native-like knowledge of English grammar, you should start by about 10 years old. We don’t see very much difference between people who start at birth and people who start at 10, but we start seeing a going down after that,” says Joshua Hartshorne, an assistant professor of psychology at Boston College, who made this study as a postdoc at MIT. People who start learning a language between 10 and 18 will still learn quickly, but since they have a shorter window before their learning ability goes down, they do not achieve the fluency of native speakers, the researchers found. The findings are based on an analysis of a grammar quiz taken by nearly 670,000 people, which is by far the largest data set that anyone has collected for a study of language-learning ability. “It’s been very difficult until now to get all the data you would need to answer this question of how long the critical period lasts,” says Josh Tenenbaum, an MIT professor of brain science and an author of the paper. “But this is one of those hard-to-get opportunities in science where we could work on a question that is very old, that many smart people have thought about and written about, and take a new angle to see something that maybe other people haven’t.” 12. What is the best way for a child to sound like a native English speaker? A. Starting learning before 10 years old. B. Learning English for at least 10 years. C. Paying more attention to the grammar. D. Studying with the help of a native speaker. 13. Why does the author mention the grammar quiz in Paragraph 4? A. To introduce the largest data set. B. To stress the importance of grammar. C. To show the truth of the findings. D. To explain the popularity of English. 14. How does Josh Tenenbaum feel about taking part in the study? A. Worried. B. Lucky. C. Bored. D. Confident. 15. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain why children are better at learning languages than adults. B. To introduce a new study on the important period for language learning. C. To discuss the importance of words and grammar in language learning. D. To compare the language learning abilities of people of different ages. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) How to Improve Your English Vocabulary Learning new words is an important part of learning English. D 5. C 6. C 7. 根据第一段“He had been pestering (纠缠) me to take him to the park to watch the ducks in the pond; I finally realized his wish.(他一直缠着我,要我带他去公园看池塘里的鸭子;我最终实现了他的愿望)”可知,Oliver一直缠着作者带他去公园看池塘里的鸭子,作者最终满足了他的愿望。 根据前文“He stood still, smiling, and found real joy in watching them. I’d long forgotten clouds’ magic: My mind was filled with things to do(他站着不动,面带微笑,从看着他们身上找到了真正的快乐。我早就忘记了云的魔力:我的脑子里满是要做的事情)”以及之后的转折以及后文“and reduce my worries and nervousness(减少我的担忧和紧张)”可知,划线单词和“减少我的担忧和紧张”并列,表达同样的意思,推知,应是“放松”之意,和C项意思相近。故选C项。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“His curiosity never disappeared, especially when it came to fallen leaves. He hunted for them, big and small, treating each one like a treasure.(他的好奇心从未消失,尤其是对落叶的好奇。他到处寻找,无论大小,把每一个都当作珍宝)”可知,Oliver对落叶有着强烈的好奇心。故选C项。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The biggest lesson hit me then: live in the moment. He never asked the time, when we’d leave, or what would be next. Whether he was running after sticks, petting a dog, or running across the grass, he was entirely in the moment. That hour with Oliver reminded me of the wonder we lose as adults, and of many things we can learn from a child’s simple, unplanned joy.(我从中得到的最大教训是:活在当下。他从来没有问过时间,我们什么时候离开,或者接下来要做什么。无论他是在追树枝、抚摸狗,还是在草地上奔跑,他都完全沉浸在当下。和Oliver在一起的那一小时让我想起了我们作为成年人所失去的奇迹,也让我想起了我们可以从一个孩子简单的、计划外的快乐中学到很多东西)”可知,作者领悟到最重要的一点:要活在当下。故选B项。 C When you think about your relationship with your parents, how would you describe it? When I first started my efforts and apology(道歉) seemed pointless. For example, when I tried to hold my mom into my arms, she pushed me away. My dad didn’t give me a love sign. But I didn’t give up. I realized that improving a relationship is not about fixing a single argument; it’s about repairing years of misunderstandings and miscommunications. To truly improve your relationship with your parents, understand that it’s a long journey. 8. A 9. B 10. D 11. For example, when I tried to hold my mom into my arms, she pushed me away. My dad didn’t give me a love sign.(刚开始的时候,我的努力和道歉似乎都毫无意义。 根据第五段的“In my case, it took years of efforts. I had to show my parents that I had changed, not through words, but through actions.(就我而言,这需要多年的努力。我必须向父母证明我已经有所改变,不是通过言语,而是通过实际行动来体现)”及最后一段“Start by seeing the situation as a long journey. It may not be easy, but if you keep trying and give it time, your relationship can get better. Be patient and stick to the process.(首先将这种状况视为一段漫长的旅程。 C。 D A good many facts show that it is more difficult to learn a new language as an adult than as a child, which has led scientists to think that there is a “critical (关键的) period” for language learning. 12. A 13. C 14. B 15. I’d like to share some thoughts on communicating with our parents. Parents are the people who love us most, so it’s necessary to keep a good relationship with them. Here are my ideas on how to make it easier to communicate with parents. First, we should respect and trust our parents. Don’t be rude to them even if they have done something wrong. They have experienced more and always try their best to protect us from dangers. Second, if we often talk with them about our life and experiences, we will know each other better. What’s more, we can often tell our parents how much we love them. If sometimes we don’t agree with our parents’ decisions, we should try to put ourselves in their shoes and we will soon understand them. Remember that what they really want is only the best for us. Thank you for listening. 词汇积累 必要的:necessary→essential 粗鲁的:rude→impolite 保护:protect→defend 同意:agree with→approve of 2 句式拓展 并列句变复合句 原句:They have experienced more and always try their best to protect us from dangers. Since they have experienced more than us, they always try their best to protect us from dangers. 1】Parents are the people who love us most, so it’s necessary to keep a good relationship with them.(运用了who引导的定语从句修饰先行词people) 【高分句型2】If sometimes we don’t agree with our parents’ decisions, we should try to put ourselves in their shoes and we will soon understand them.(运用了if引导的条件状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
