One of the key projects is our long-running Knits for Nature program. Why Your Help matters For over 20 years, this program has served two critical purposes. Initially, hand-knitted jumpers were essential for saving Little Penguins affected by oil spills (泄漏). When Little Penguins get oiled, they can poison themselves by eating oil. Knitted jumpers help to prevent them from reaching their feathers (羽毛) until rescuers wash them clean. Thanks to the generosity of knitters worldwide, our care center is now well-stocked with these life-saving jumpers for 40,000 penguins. Today, the program’s primary goal is to seek financial support. We now use these jumpers, dressed on penguin toys, as popular souvenirs sold in our stores. Each sale directly supports our ongoing wildlife protection work. How You Can Help We invite you to keep knitting creative jumpers for us! Themed designs such as those featuring Christmas colours, football themes, world flags, or ocean themes are welcomed as souvenirs. For safety, we cannot accept items with buttons or sharp decorations that could pose a danger to children. Please ensure jumpers stick to the following sizes in the picture. A huge thank you to all the wonderful knitters who have contributed to making a difference for Phillip Island’s precious wildlife! 21. How do the jumpers help save Little Penguins? A. By lowering care costs. B. By cleaning oily feathers. C. By acting as important barriers. D. By drawing rescuers’ attention. 22. What is the current purpose of the Knits for Nature program? A. To raise funds. B. To prevent oil spills. C. To educate the public. D. To inspire creative design. 23. Which of the following jumpers is acceptable? A. A red jumper with a secure button. B. A green jumper with a knitted dolphin. C. A 18cm-wide jumper with a football logo. D. A 15cm-long jumper with a UN flag pattern. B In Tuba Geçkil’s world, anything can turn into a cake. From shoes, toilet paper rolls, to a steaming kettle, the Turkish sugar artist’s ultra-realistic cakes are sculpted to mirror everyday objects. They’re so convincing until a knife slices them open to reveal their delicious insides. Geçkil’s journey began with a simple desire to create something special for her son’s 1st birthday. She shaped a car cake so real that her son wanted to play with it instead of eating it. From that moment, she discovered her passion: turning daily items into edible (可食用的) art. She began experimenting with techniques from painting, sculpting, and even hairstylings, designing each cake as if it were a high-fashioned piece, customized with fine details. In 2020, her creations gained widespread attention on social media where she challenged her followers to guess which object on the table was actually a cake. It was always the one they least expected. For Geçkil, the joy lies not only in the craft but in the reactions her cakes inspire. Seeing people’s faces light up with wonder and surprise is the magic she loves to create. She said, “All hyper-realistic cakes are crazy, limited only by imagination.” Apart from her online fame, Geçkil also founded Red Rose Cake where she teaches courses in cake designing. Since 2016, she has been giving workshops in many countries—the USA, Brazil, England, India, France, Dubai, etc. Many of her students have won awards in competitions, and many are now teaching. As she watches her students excel, Geçkil is inspired to dream bigger — to bring Turkish culture to the global stage in a delicious way. She dreams of holding an international exhibition where she will fashion cakes showing traditional Turkish food as well as cultural sites, inviting people around the world to taste the richness of her homeland. 24. Which words can best describe Geçkil’s cakes? A. Lifelike and detailed. B. Complex but tasty. C. Traditional but usable. D. Creative and abstract. 25. How did Geçkil challenge her followers on social media? A. By assigning bakery tasks. B. By presenting visual tricks. C. By collecting the best flavors. D. By rating online submissions. 26. What does paragraph 4 mainly discuss about Geçkil? A. Her fashionable design. B. Her national popularity. C. Her teaching philosophy. D. Her educational achievements. 27. What is Geçkil’s goal for the future? A. To enrich Turkish food. B. To outshine her students. C. To improve her technique. D. To promote Turkish culture. C Imagine the final stretch of a marathon: your body aches, but the cheering crowd gives you energy to run faster. Similarly, a basketball team wins more home games in front of their own fans. Even you might solve a problem faster when someone watches. These common experiences all point to a basic psychological principle. This phenomenon is known as social facilitation (促进), which describes how individuals can perform tasks differently when in the company of others compared to when they are alone. The concept was first proposed by psychologist Norman Tripplett, who noticed that cyclists raced faster in groups. He tested his theory with a simple experiment where children were tasked with winding fishing line. Tripplett observed that the children who were being around others moved faster, suggesting that a peer (同龄人) nearby can motivate. But later studies found conflicting evidence. In another test, participants were given a more complex task, like memorizing a list of words. Those in front of others performed worse than those working alone. This contradiction (矛盾) led to a key change of the theory. The presence of an audience tends to improve performance on simple tasks. On the other hand, for novel tasks, the same audience can hurt performance. Why does this happen? Psychologists suggest the key reason is our concern about being judged by others. Since approval and disapproval often depend on others’ evaluations, we naturally become more alert in front of an audience. This alertness helps with mastered skills, but gets in the way of learning new ones. There isn’t one recipe for success, but social facilitation theory helps to point us in the right direction. To improve a well-practiced skill like running or playing an instrument, strategically seek an audience by joining a club or performing publicly. If you struggle when watched, practice alone until you gain confidence. By taking advantage of social settings wisely, we can use the audience effect to achieve our best performance. 28. What is the main idea of social facilitation? A. Group interaction enhances learning efficiency. B. Individual performance peaks in competitive settings. C. Social situations have predictable effects on behavior. D. The presence of others can influence our performance. 29. Which factor can explain the conflicting results in paragraph 3? A. The size of the audience. B. The difficulty of the task. C. The type of the reward. D. The personality of the participant. 30. What is the root cause of social facilitation? A. Evaluation anxiety. B. Peer pressure. C. Competitive desire. D. Personal standard. 31. What does the author suggest we do about the phenomenon? A. Gradually increase audience size. B. Thoughtfully manage social contexts. C. Actively observe others' performances. D. Strategically seek supportive audiences. D Hydrogels (水凝胶) are soft materials used in fields from medicine to agriculture, yet they often struggle to stick firmly to surfaces, especially in underwater environments. Nature, however, offers a solution. Inspired by barnacles (藤壶) that produce proteins to let them stick to wet surfaces, researchers studied the protein structures of these animals to copy their stickiest features. Hailong Fan and his colleagues started by creating 180 different types of hydrogel. This was made possible by their prior analysis of 24, 000 protein sequences (序列) to identify the stickiest combinations. The key material properties of these hydrogels were then fed into artificial intelligence (AI) models. With the models trained, they could predict even better recipes for super-sticky materials. This process let the team develop a new class of sticky hydrogel. To test its practical performance researchers used one of these hydrogels to cover a hole in a three-meter-long pipe filled with water, to recreate a situation where water was flowing out under high pressure. As soon as the hydrogel was in place, the water stopped flowing, and the material continued to block the hole for more than five months, even when it had been unstuck and restuck multiple times. The new hydrogel shows great promise, though it still faces challenges. It must be relatively thick to work effectively and requires further testing on rough, chemically complex, or moving surfaces. These challenges, however, do not overshadow their potential, and the research paves the way for future advances. The team is now working on customizing the hydrogel for wound dressing, marine equipment and emergency repairs. As materials scientist Ting Xu pointed out, the power of this AI-driven strategy lies in a simple principle: “AI can provide the answers, but humans must ask the right questions.” Not limited to hydrogels, the strategy can be extended to other soft materials and might one day be automated using laboratory robotics — an approach that could significantly shorten the path from idea to functional material across countless applications. 32. What is the correct order of the research procedures? a. Make 180 hydrogel samples. b. AI models predict better mixes. c. Create a powerful new hydrogel. d. Provide AI with experimental data. e. Identify key sticky protein sequences. A. a-e-d-b-c. B. a-e-b-d-c. C. e-a-b-d-c. D. e-a-d-b-c. 33. What does the pipe test prove regarding the new hydrogel? A. Its cross-field application. B. Its reliable operating principle. C. Its real-world effectiveness. D. Its proper working environment. 34. What do the underlined words “paves the way” mean in paragraph 4? A. generates huge profit. B. Predicts the positive result. C. Prepares the necessary condition. D. Collects the favorable feedback. 35. Which of the following views would Ting Xu agree to? A. Full automation is the goal of AI. B. AI saves the cost of running lab equipment. C. Human insight guides AI’s problem-solving. D. AI-driven strategy shines through in data-heavy tasks. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。其中有两项多余选项。 Do you love birds and want to get closer to their world? With only three seconds left, our team was two points behind. The gym was silent with tension. Our captain got the ball and took a long shot just as the buzzer sounded. The ball flew in a perfect arc and went straight through the net. The crowd went wild. This moment taught me a deep lesson about never giving up. It showed that anything is possible if we keep trying until the very end. The joy we all shared proved that the true spirit of sports lies not just in winning, but in the courage to face challenges together. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
