A With the seasons changing, now is the perfect time to start planning summer experiences at outdoor theatres in parks, city squares, woodlands and even the side of a cliff! We’ve put together a list of the best ones to visit across the UK. Grosvenor Park, Chester Every summer, Storyhouse theatre packs up their items and builds an entire amphitheatre (圆形剧场) in Grosvenor Park. This year’s programme sees an eclectic trio: The Gangs of New York, The I’m portance of Being Earnest and The Wizard of Oz. I’m most excited by the first: a new adaptation written by Kieran Lynn and directed by John Young. I don’t think this story has ever been staged before and it seems like a wild pick for a summer outdoor show. Minack Theatre, Cornwall Built into a cliff face in Porthcurno, you hardly need an excuse to visit this theatre. Seeing anything at all, backgrounded by the azure Cornish sea, will be an unforgettable experience. This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and the less-known works of Shakespeare. Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Highland Perthshire Throughout most of the year, the Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s indoor concert hall and studio serve as their regular performance spaces. But this summer, you can see equally lavish productions at the amphitheatre, located in the woods and overlooking Ben-Y-Vrackie mountain. This year they’ll be staging Dido and Aeneas. Shakespeare in the Squares, London Is there anything more luxuriously summery than lazing down to your local square for a bit of Shakespeare and a picnic? These guys do what they say on the tin, travelling across the squares of London with a new Shakespeare production every year. This year will be All’s Well That Ends Well. 21.Which play fascinates the author most? A.The Gangs of New York. B.The Importance of Being Earnest. C.The Wizard of Oz. D.Little Shop of Horrors. 22.Where can you enjoy a play in the Pitlochry Festival Theatre this summer? A.On the cliff. B.In the woods. C.At a concert hall. D.On city squares. 23.What is a proper choice for a Shakespeare fan? A.Grosvenor Park and Pitlochry Festival Theatre. B.Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Minack Theatre. C.Minack Theatre and Shakespeare in the Squares. D.Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Shakespeare in the Squares. 根据“Grosvenor Park, Chester”部分第二段中“The Gangs of New York, The I’m portance of Being Earnest and The Wizard of Oz. I’m most excited by the first: a new adaptation written by Kieran Lynn and directed by John Young.”(《纽约黑帮》、《认真的重要性》和《绿野仙踪》。 可知,作者最感兴趣的剧目是“The Gangs of New York”。故选A。 22. 根据“Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Highland Perthshire”部分中“But this summer, you can see equally lavish productions at the amphitheatre, located in the woods and overlooking Ben-Y-Vrackie mountain.”(但是今年夏天,你可以在位于森林中并且俯瞰Ben-Y-Vrackie山的圆形剧场看到同样豪华的制作。) 根据“Minack Theatre, Cornwall”部分中的“This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and the less-known works of Shakespeare.”(今年将上演巡回演出的“Little Shop of Horrors”和较少为人知的莎士比亚作品。)以及“Shakespeare in the Squares, London”部分中“These guys do what they say on the tin, travelling across the squares of London with a new Shakespeare production every year.”(这些人做到了他们所说的,每年都会带着新的莎士比亚作品在伦敦的广场上巡回演出。)可知,莎士比亚的粉丝可以选择Minack Theatre和Shakespeare in the Squares,故选C。 B Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis (蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn’t struggle (挣扎,奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can’t fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly, the challenges (挑战) of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly. When people are young, meeting and overcoming (克服) challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many supermarkets, used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives. Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them. 24.Dennis’s example shows that successful people should ________. A.take up business early B.sell clothes from door to door C.overcome the difficulties D.become the leaders of tomorrow 25.The meaning of the underlined word “mature” in the passage is “________”. A.take up B.get up C.wake up D.grow up 26.What is the writer trying to do in the passage? A.Encourage young people to face challenges. B.Suggest how to become a successful businessman. C.Explain what will happen if a person fails the exam. D.Describe where a butterfly comes from. 27.What is the best title for this passage? A.Successful People Have a Sense of Achievement. B.Young People Must Develop Their Energy Actively. C.Countries Should Continue to Become Successful. D.Challenges of Life Bring Out the Best in Young People. 根据第二段中的“Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father’s death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.(另一位成功人士是丹尼斯。他年仅 20 岁时父亲就去世了,父亲的离世迫使他迅速成熟起来。他不得不承担起养活九口之家的责任,直面这些挑战并一一克服。如今,他的兄弟姐妹都过着成功的生活)”可知,丹尼斯的例子表明成功的人应该克服困难。故选C项。 25.词句猜测题。根据第二段中的“His father died when he was only twenty. His father's death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people.(他父亲在他只有二十岁时就去世了。父亲的去世迫使他迅速mature。他不得不养活一个九口之家)”可知,父亲早逝让他不得不承担起养家的责任,由此可推知“mature”意为“成长、成熟”,与“grow up”同义。故选D项。 26.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful, it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.(因此,一些父母和老师会积极鼓励年轻人直面挑战。他们可能会为年轻人组织一些富有挑战性的活动,比如攀岩、露营、志愿活动等等。然而,仅仅通过考试并不能让人做好应对人生的准备。我们必须主动迎接并克服挑战。如今的年轻人将成为未来的领导者,一个国家要想持续发展、再创佳绩,年轻人学会迎接并战胜挑战至关重要)”可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是鼓励年轻人面对挑战。故选A项。 27. 文章开篇第一段以蝴蝶破蛹的故事引出核心观点“Similarly, the challenges (挑战) of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.(同样地,人生中的挑战能激发年轻人的最大潜能,让他们展翅翱翔)”,随后通过成功人士的例子和现实建议进一步论证该观点。 C Most people agree that transforming from fossil fuels to sustainable electricity, whether directly or indirectly, is the best strategy for human beings. However, some industries face significant challenges in this shift. Aviation (航空) is one such area. Batteries are too heavy, and hydrogen (氢), made from clean power, has some difficulties in moving and storing it. However, a new approach could offer a solution by producing fuels from CO2 waste generated by various industrial processes. A recent study published in Nature by Dr. Aldo Steinfeld of ETH Zurich and his colleagues illustrates how these fuels might be created from thin air. Scientists at ETH Zurich have created a system that can emulate the natural process of photosynthesis (光合作用), where plants change CO2 and water into energy by using sunlight. The system consists of three stages: first, it takes in CO2 and water from the atmosphere; second, it uses sunlight to heat a material, which reacts with both CO2 and water, then making new gases; and finally, it transforms these gases into a liquid fuel. The team’s device was installed on the roof of ETH’s Machine Laboratory Building. While the current output is small, the experiment demonstrates the practicability of the concept. Rough estimates suggest that completely replacing the global aviation fuel market through this method would require about 45,000 km² of suitable land. That sounds a lot, but it’s just about 0.5% of the Sahara Desert’s area. To promote the adoption of this air-produced fuel, policy measures such as taxes on traditional fuels and legal support will be necessary. These measures could encourage the use of more sustainable aviation fuels. Anyway, Dr. Steinfeld’s research that turns air into fuel holds great potential for making flying more eco-friendly. It not only reduces reliance on fossil fuels but also contributes to the fight against climate change by offering a sustainable alternative for air travel. 28.What is a main challenge in using sustainable electricity for aviation? A.Costs of traditional fuels. B.Efficiency of labor force. C.Transportation of clean energy. D.Shortage of advanced technology. 29.What does the underlined word “emulate” in paragraph 2 mean? A.Copy. B.Establish. C.Adapt. D.Speed. 30.What can be inferred about the team’s device from paragraph 4? A.It must be set up on roofs of buildings. B.It is likely to take the place of traditional fuels. C.Its concept is impractical for use in real-world. D.Its output will increase if it is installed in deserts. 根据第一段“Batteries are too heavy, and hydrogen (氢), made from clean power, has some difficulties in moving and storing it.(电池太重了,而由清洁能源产生的氢气在运输和储存方面存在一些难题)”可知,航空业面临的主要挑战是清洁能源的运输和储存,故选C。 29. 故选A。 30. 根据第四段“While the current output is small, the experiment demonstrates the practicability of the concept. Rough estimates suggest that completely replacing the global aviation fuel market through this method would require about 45,000 km² of suitable land. That sounds a lot, but it’s just about 0.5% of the Sahara Desert’s area. It was the school sports meet. The ___14___ people are not always those who win, but those who don’t ___15___ , even when they are losing.” A. give out分发;B. put up张贴;C. give up放弃;D. take off起飞。根据语境和前文的“I felt hope again and decided to run again next year.” Li Daiyu and Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada. Before 46 (start) out, they spent a couple of days in Vancouver, 47 there were some shops selling crafts and 48 (antique). After that they took the train to Lake Louise, where the blue water took their breath 49 . Their next stop was in Edmonton, a city with daily temperatures 50 (average) —10℃. They had known that Canada is a country which has vast lands but 51 small population. However, they didn’t anticipate 52 (see) such an open country. They were so 53 (amaze). The train thundered on, and the red maple trees outside the window 54 (confirm) that autumn had arrived in Canada. 55 (eventual), they reached their destination — Toronto. The whole journey took them four days. 46.starting 47.where 48.antiques 49.away 50.averaging 51.with 52.seeing 53.amazed 54.confirmed 55.Eventually 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。 故填where。 48. 故填with。 52. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Dear Ben, I hope this email finds you well. B Here is a story: A man sees a butterfly (蝴蝶). C Most people agree that transforming from fossil fuels to sustainable electricity, whether directly or indirectly, is the best strategy for human beings. It was the school sports meet.
