A
Visiting my parents for the weekend, a traditional practice plays out. Sitting on the sofa after Sunday lunch, I reach towards the photo albums (相册) in the bookcase.
Opening one, selected at random, I feel as if I’m being wrapped in a comfortable blanket, carried back more than 40 years into my childhood. Here, in a white dress, is me aged four, face alive with joy as I was reaching my Christmas gifts.
There’s my brother in a blue shirt, playing with his toy planes. My 10-year-old daughter Clemmie sits beside me, pointing at pictures, asking questions about the cute babies (my cousins) and that youthful man carving the turkey (my dad).
She’s excited to see her family history rolled out. But after leafing through the final page, she turns to me, “Where are the pictures of my Christmases?” To which my shameful answer is, “I’m not sure.” Because, unlike my parents, I have no mass of albums recording Clemmie’s early life.
Clemmie and her 12-year-old sister Sasha are set to become part of what the Professional Photographers of America calls the “lost generation”— an era of people, currently fairly young, who risk losing these magical images of their childhood and with it, a strong sense of their history.
On the one hand, our children are the most photographed in history, with more than 400 million shots (快照) uploaded on social media platforms every day. Yet many are rarely looked at again. And an estimated 631 million photographs each year will remain forever on accounts to which we’ve forgotten the passwords, making them inaccessible to us and future generations.
This is a shame, not only for personal interest, but for something deeper. “Looking at family photos helps children create a sense of identity and gives them the gift of the past,” explains Dana Denis Smith, whose recent TED talk is about the importance of preserving our memories.
My old Canon camera still works fine. So this Christmas, I’m making a change. Because when my daughters are adults, I want them to be able to sit with their children and point (and laugh) at my terrible hairstyles and fashions.
6.Which describes the author’s feeling when viewing old photo albums?
A.Sadness about lost records. B.Fondness for past memories.
C.Regret about old technology. D.Joy at uncovering secrets.
7.Why are modern children called the “lost generation”?
A.They may care little about family history. B.They spend much time on social media.
C.They prefer digitally perfected pictures. D.They may lose their childhood memories.
8.What is one reason many photos today are rarely seen again?
A.They are printed in low quality.
B.People store them on devices but rarely organize them.
C.They’re stuck in social media accounts we can’t access.
D.They are all deleted after uploading.
9.What does Dana emphasize about the role of family photos?
A.Waking up multiple emotions. B.Recording past fashions and styles.
C.Strengthening children’s self-identity. D.Contributing to parent-child relationships.
10.What does the author plan to do this Christmas?
A.Improve her hairstyle. B.Create physical albums.
C.Organize a family gathering. D.Invest in photography equipment.

根据第六段中“And an estimated 631 million photographs each year will remain forever on accounts to which we’ve forgotten the passwords, making them inaccessible to us and future generations. (据估计,每年有6.31亿张照片将永远留在我们忘记密码的账号上,使我们和后代无法访问这些照片。)”可知,许多照片如今很少再被看到的原因之一是它们被困在我们无法访问的社交媒体账号中。故选C。

It’s good to make mistakes and here is why. First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve? How can you make yourself stronger? The simple answer is “You can’t.” Look around you. With very few exceptions(例外), either everything you see in your world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: When you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn't failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to success. Why? Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some numbers of things before you succeed. Every time you make a mistake, you eliminate one of those difficulties and are one step closer.
But this all doesn’t mean that you should go ahead without considering the consequences (后果) of a mistake. However, when you try something new, you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn't work out the way you want it to, you will be in a normal place to try again.
We all have limited time and money so don’t waste them all on one problem. Realize that it probably won’t be perfect the first time and deal with these resources properly so you can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career.
There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.”
So go ahead and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And succeed.

How to Help your Brain Form Healthy Habits and Break the Bad Ones
Many people set New Year’s goals, like learning guitar or quitting nail-biting. 16 However, such changes are entirely achievable thanks to the brain’s plasticity (可塑性) and consistent practice.
Set your goals wisely. When you set a goal, try to make it motivating. There is solid evidence that people are better at sticking to activities that they want to do than to activities that they have to do. 17 Instead, give yourself a mix of goals, including some easy wins, to help boost motivation.
18 Attention and focus improve if the goal includes certain details. For example, “I want to clean my room every Saturday.” is much better than “I want to be organized.” This will keep your attention focused on what you’re trying to accomplish.
Choose a helpful environment and provide context clues. To form new habits, repetition and your environment matter. Use visual signals and reminders to start actions. 19 Equally important, avoid a conflicting environment like not going to a candy store if your goal is to stop eating candy. These approaches help the brain learn new routines and make choices that match their goals.
Reward yourself. Providing a reward, even if it’s just a small treat, can help things stick. The brain loves these rewards. They signal“do that again.” Receiving feedback is another form of reward and improves performance. Feedback can come from others or yourself and it can be as simple as crossing goals off a to-do list. 20
A.Be specific with your goals.
B.Forming new habits and breaking old ones can be difficult.
C.Don’t set challenges with a very high failure rate.
D.It will help you develop a healthy habit.
E.And these could be notes or daily alarms.

For example, “I want to clean my room every Saturday.” is much better than “I want to be organized.”(如果目标包含特定细节,注意力和专注力会更好。 A选项“Be specific with your goals.(让你的目标具体化)”符合语境。故选A项。
E选项“And these could be notes or daily alarms.(这些信号或提醒可以是便签或每日闹钟)”符合语境。故选E项。
20.根据前文“Feedback can come from others or yourself and it can be as simple as crossing goals off a to-do list.(反馈可以来自他人或自己,简单到在待办清单上划掉已完成的目标即可)”可知,此空需说明“反馈(如划掉目标)”的积极作用。C选项“It helps you see you’re doing well.(这能让你看到自己做得很好)”符合语境。故选C项。

故填though/although/while。
“_____ aim is to encourage new generations of craftsmen”为限制性定语从句,修饰先行词woodcarving,关系词在定语从句中作定语,修饰名词aim,用表示所属关系的关系代词whose引导该从句。故填whose。
故填as。

A
Visiting my parents for the weekend, a traditional practice plays out.

11.From the first paragraph, we can know that _________.
A.mistakes are unnecessary for development
B.we are afraid of trying new things
C.it’s common for people to make mistakes
D.mistakes are better than not trying
12.What did Edison think about his 10,000 failures before perfecting the light bulb? _________.
A.He thought he had really failed 10,000 times.
B.He believed those failures were a waste of time.
C.He considered that he had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
D.He thought he should give up after so many failures.
13.The underlined word “eliminate” means_________.
14.According to the article, one thing you should pay attention to about making mistakes is_________.
A.not making the same mistakes
B.accepting the punishment willingly
C.taking results into consideration
D.trying things out one by one
15.According to the passage, why is it good to make mistakes?
A.Mistakes can make us famous like Edison.
B.Mistakes show that we are too careless.
C.Mistakes mean we are trying new things and learning, getting closer to success.
D.Mistakes can help us avoid trying new things in the future.
