A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”.
The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
The night before the marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces (鞋带) became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3, I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”
By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21, I was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running. I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels (标签), I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.
24. What did the author do one month before the marathon?
A. He lost hope. B. He felt scared.
C. He was well trained. D. He made up his mind to run.
25. Why did the author mention the P.E. class in his 7th school year?
A. To share a precious memory. B. To show he was not talented in sports.
C. To appreciate the support of his teacher. D. To amuse the readers with a funny story.
26. How was the author’s first marathon?
A. He made it. B. He quit halfway.
C. He got the first prize. D. He walked to the end.
27. What does the story mainly tell us?
A. One is never too old to learn.
B. Failure is the mother of success.
C. A winner is one with great efforts and determination.
D. A man should owe his success to his family’s selfless support.
C
Maths anxiety is older than you might think. A hundred years ago, German physicist Felix Auerbach, worried about the situation and hoping to find ways to deal with it, wrote a little book called The Fear of Mathematics and How to Overcome It. For a mathematician like myself, the pleasure of reading his book is followed by a sigh of regret that the topic is as important today as it was a century ago.
Why do we fear mathematics? At heart, says Auerbach, it comes down to a basic misunderstanding of what maths is. The fear of messing up a calculation (计算) may be real, but the fact that there are many excellent mathematicians who are terrible at calculation proves that maths skills and mathematics aren’t the same thing.
What, then, is mathematics? Auerbach says it is three things: a science, a language and an art. For me, part of the problem is that we are often stuck in the “science” box. If we can be shown the beauty of mathematics, we might stop fearing the calculations supporting it. As a language, what sets maths apart is the common truth — you can become fluent wherever you are from. As an art, the beauty of maths lies in finding its beautiful patterns (模式) that help us to understand the endless, explore art and nature, and delight in the perfection of ideas. Focusing completely on calculation skills misses the joy and excitement that can come from discovering and understanding the patterns, from seeing the artistic beauty of mathematics.
Some experts like to point out that we experience anxiety the same way we experience excitement. In the same way, fear can be negative or positive. Our goal should be to move people from a narrow view of mathematics as only calculations to admire its deeper meanings — as a science, a language and an art.
28. What does the author think of Auerbach’s book in Paragraph 1?
A It is not important today. B. It overstates the fear of maths.
C. It talks about a common problem. D. It is only popular with mathematicians.
29. Why do people fear mathematics?
A. They can’t do calculations well. B. The math language is too difficult.
C. They don’t get support from teachers. D. They don’t understand what maths really is.
30. How can we see mathematics as an art?
A. By focusing on calculation skills. B. By exploring its beautiful patterns.
C. By using it in scientific inventions. D. By learning it as a unique language.
31. What does the passage suggest we do when learning maths?
A. Express our fear. B. Ask experts for help.
C. Change our opinions about it. D. Learn a new language.
D
It may seem hard to believe, but snacking several times a day can improve your health and fitness — exercise snacking, that is. “Exercise snacks” are short bursts of activity — 30 seconds to 5 or 10 minutes max — that include almost any type of movement. Think climbing stairs, walking, cycling, or dancing. Today, many studies prove these mini workouts can make a difference.
Doing 15-to 30-second exercise snacks three times daily was shown to improve cardiorespiratory (心和肺的) fitness levels and exercise abilities in inactive adults, according to a small January 2022 study published in the journal Exercise and Sport Sciences Reviews.
Adults who reported they didn’t do exercise saw a 17% to 18% drop of cancer cases after they began doing just 3.4 to 3.6 minutes of intense (激烈的) physical activity daily, a July 2023 study of 22,398 people found. Their daily physical activity was done in bursts lasting less than one or two minutes. Hitting 4.5 minutes (in total) of intense physical activity each day was connected with a 31% to 32% lower risk of cancer, according to the study published in JAMA Oncology.
The advantages of movement also include brain health. Doing even a small amount of easy to hard physical activity every day lowers your risk of dementia (痴呆), according to a March study in JAMDA: The Journal of the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association.
Exercise snacks are a favorite tool used by Dr. Supatra Tovar, owner of Dr. Supatra Tovar & Associates. “I’m a big proponent of behavior change that starts tiny,” Tovar said. “So I like to create behaviors with my customers that are easy, achievable and doable every day of the week.”
“Your body is kind of lazy,” said Michael Betts, a personal trainer and director at Train Fitness who’s based in London. “Doing these little exercise snacks reminds your body that it does need to work to keep and improve its overall health.”
32. What can be called an exercise snack according to the text?
A. Singing songs with your classmates.
B. Turning off the lights before leaving school.
C. Jogging without stopping for 20 minutes.
D. Rushing to the dining hall for lunch after class.
33. What is one good thing that exercise snacks bring according to the text?
A. Lowering cancer risk.
B. Improving muscle strength.
C. Keeping people away from dementia.
D. Improving the heart rate of inactive adults.
34. What does the underlined word “proponent” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Researcher. B. Judge.
C. Supporter. D. Explorer.
35. Which of the following may Michael Betts agree?
A. Exercise snacks are necessary.
B. More daily exercise is needed.
C. The body dislikes being active.
D. Long workouts are better.

It was exam time at Marc’s school. Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it. Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study.
His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he thought he had better things to do.
“Shall we go to the park?” he said to his friend Huck one afternoon. “It’s a nice day. We could play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I’m supposed to review my lessons,” he said. “I’m going home to do some math.”
Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?”
“Math is important. Besides, my mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.”
“That’s crazy,” said Marc. Huck shrugged (耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!”
“You won’t beat me,” said Marc.
“Oh yes, I will.”
“Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!”
For the first time ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. When his sister Lily came in, he was sitting expressionlessly by the desk, just staring out of the window.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。

【66题答案】
【答案】Dear fellow students,
As our school’s annual autumn sports meeting draws near, I’ve observed a lack of enthusiasm among some of us toward participation. Thus, I’m writing to urge every one of you to engage in this grand event with passion.
Beyond building physical strength and boosting fitness, sports are a great way to foster teamwork and resilience. The true value lies not in winning medals, but in the joy of striving and the bonds we forge with classmates during the process.
Let’s step out of our comfort zones, sign up for events that interest us, and pour passion into this year’s sports meeting. Together, we can make it an unforgettable experience!
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】“You don’t look happy, Marc. What’s wrong?” she said. Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision. He wanted to make careful preparations for the exam, but ran into difficulties with math. He was at a loss what to do next. “Don’t worry! I’ll help you. Just be confident!” replied Lily. The following days, Marc worked very hard and made great progress. Gradually, his confidence grew and he could solve math problems with ease, with the instructions appearing in his brain as if the teacher was standing at his side .
On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win. But Marc didn’t care. When the exam began, Marc answered all the questions as best as he could. Several days later, the result came out. It turned out that Marc did much better than Huck. “Well done,” said Mom. “We could go to see a movie to celebrate, and you can choose one.” “I think Lily should choose,” said Marc. “I would never have gained such a great achievement without her help and encouragement .”

A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not
running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train.Yet,I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E.class,the teacher required us
to run laps and then hit a softball.I didn't do either well.He later informed me that I was"not
athletic".
The idea that I was "not athletic"stuck with me for years. When I started running in my
30s,I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I
was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind.A test of wills!
The night before the marathon,I dreamt that I couldn't even find the finish line.I woke up
sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line,my shoe laces (became untied. So I stopped to
readjust.Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3,I passed a sign:"GO FOR IT,RUNNERS!"
By mile 17,I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly.Despite the pain,
I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again
By mile 21,I was starving!
As I approached mile 23,I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan.She
never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m.or questioned my expenses on running
I was one of the final runners to finish.But I finished!And I got a medal.In fact,I got the
same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had

Maths anxiety is older than you might think.A hundred years ago,German physicist Felix
Auerbach, worried about the situation and hoping to find ways to deal with it,wrote a little
book called The Fear of Mathematics and How to Overcome It.For a mathematician like
myself, the pleasure of reading his book is followed by a sigh of regret that the topic is as
important today as it was a century ago.
Why do we fear mathematics? At heart, says Auerbach,it comes down to a basic
misunderstanding of what maths is.The fear of messing up a calculation (may be real,
but the fact that there are many excellent mathematicians who are terrible at calculation proves
that maths skills and mathematics aren't the same thing.
What, then,is mathematics?Auerbach says it is three things:a science,a language and an
art.For me,part of the problem is that we are often stuck in the"science box.If we can be
shown the beauty of mathematics,we might stop fearing the calculations supporting it.As a
language, what sets maths apart is the common truth-you can become fluent wherever you
are from.As an art,the beauty of maths lies in finding its beautiful patterns()that help
us to understand the endless, explore art and nature, and delight in the perfection of ideas.
Focusing completely on calculation skills misses the joy and excitement that can come from
discovering and understanding the patterns, from seeing the artistic beauty of mathematics.
Some experts like to point out that we experience anxiety the same way we experience
excitement. In the same way, fear can be negative or positive. Our goal should be to move
people from a narrow view of mathematics as only calculations to admire its deeper meanings
-as a science,a language and an art.
28.What does the author think of Auerbach's book in Paragraph 1?

A.Express our fear.

Thanks for coming to this short presentation on our new product design. We've already developed our adventure hair care oil and named IT adventure tech. Our market research showed that our target customers are men between eighteen and forty who like to be outdoors and also enjoy unique products, so we needed to design a new bottle for adventure tech to appeal to that market. Now i'm happy to show you our new bottle design look. IT fits smoothly into your hand and can be easily opened using one hand. Its color and shape are inspired by a black metal drinking flask, and IT comes in two sizes, the regular size and the small travel size. You probably noticed that we're putting IT out on our official website in two months. Next, i'm going to share with you a short video about our production timeline. For further details, feel free to send me an email. Good morning, everyone. Thanks for coming to this short presentation on our new product design.
