A woman in a cap wanders calmly along.Except for the lava (熔岩) erupting behind her,she could be walking in the park. The woman turns to watch the molten rock flow for a moment then walks calmly toward the camera. The footage(镜头) is from Werner Herzog’s book to volcanoes and volcano hunters,Into the Inferno, and the woman pictured is perhaps one of the most important volcanologists of all time,Katia Krafft.
Born in France,in 1942,Katia developed an interest in volcanoes at an early age.Later, she met Maurice Krafft. The pair bonded over their shared love of volcanoes before marrying in 1970.The Kraffts wrote about 20 books on volcanoes across the globe.
Katia and her husband made great progress in educating the general public in volcanology.Their footage had more than scientific value. For instance, when Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines began to show signs of an eruption in 1991,the Kraffts were able to present Philippine President Cory Aquino with video footage of the effects of the 1985 eruption of Nevado del Ruiz in Colombia, asking him to call for an evacuation of those in the danger zone.
In 1969,Katia was awarded the prize of the Vocation Foundation for her work on active volcanic sites.
The couple lost their lives, along with more than 40 others during the eruption of Mount Unzen in Japan on June 3,1991,when they were caught in a flow of rock, gas and ash moving at speeds of over 100 miles per hour, with temperatures of more than 800 degrees Fahrenheit.Katia was 49; Maurice,45.
Katia’s impact on volcanology has reached far beyond her death and has encouraged many young women to study our restless planet.“Katia Krafft is definitely the reason why I’m doing this job,” says Carla Tiraboschi,a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Minster,Germany.Carla first saw Katia in a documentary when she was just six or seven years old and has been crazy about volcanoes ever since.

Most teenagers are still trying to find their passion and purpose in life. However, not Gitanjali Rao.The 15-year-old girl at STEM School Highlands Ranch has been coming up with innovative solutions to worldwide problems since she was ten.It is,therefore, not surprising that the youngster was selected from 5,000 equally impressive nominees (被提名者) - aged 8 to 16 - for TIME Magazine’s first-ever “Kid of the Year”.
The young girl, who knew she wanted to bring change and positivity to her community since third grade, was just ten years old when she heard about the lead-tainted (含铅的) water in Flint,Michigan,in 2015.After spending two months researching how the area’s drinking water became polluted,Rao began designing a device called Tethys, which attaches to a cellphone and informs the resident via an APP if their drinking water contains traces of the noxious metal. The prototype (原型机) earned her the Young Scientist Challenge Award in 2017.A start-up businessman is working with scientists and medical professionals to test Tethys’ potential and hopes the device will be ready for commercial use.
In 2019,Rao took on another social issue, drug abuse. The apps she designed won the Pillar Prize at the Innovation Student Challenge, which helps to catch drug addiction in young adults before it’s too late.Rao said,“I wanted to come up with a way to diagnose such addiction at a nearly stage so you can take action earlier.”
More recently, the teenager has created another inspiring app.“I started to label some words that could be considered bullying, and then the computer search engine took those words and identified words that are similar. You type in a word or phrase, and it’s able to pick it up if it’s bullying, and it gives you the option to edit it or send it the way it is.” Rao told editor Angelina in an interview.“The goal is not to punish.Instead,it gives you the chance to rethink what you’re saying so that you know what to do next time around.”

Ⅱ.读后续写(满分25分)
(2025·山西省太原市高三一模)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The very first speech I had given changed my life more than I could ever have imagined.I was a third-grader when I chose Susan B.Anthony to be the topic. When I got the assignment,I went to the library and began researching the Women’s Fight for the Right to Vote.I never really thought about a time when women had no voting rights and that their opinions didn’t count.I learned that Susan B.Anthony led the fight to give women a say in our society. She overcame a lot of obstacles in order to do that.
About a week after giving my school speech,my mom read a newspaper article about a statue honoring Susan B.Anthony.The problem was that few people ever got to see the statue. It was dedicated (为举行落成典礼) in 1921,but within twenty-four hours it was taken down to the basement and stored where it had remained for nearly eighty years.
When I read that article,I was getting angry! This statue belonged in a place of honor.I felt that it should be in the Rotunda, along with the statues of Abraham Lincoln,Martin Luther King,Jr. and George Washington.
The article asked for donations because it would take $74,000 to move the thirteen-ton statue out of the basement.I decided to write a letter with a self-addressed envelope asking my relatives and friends to send a Susan B.Anthony coin or a $1 bill to me to contribute to the Women’s Voting Statue Campaign.Every day I ran to the mailbox after school. But a month later,my piggybank was still far from full.
So every night, after my homework,I wrote more letters at the kitchen table.Pretty soon the whole family got involved in the project. My seven-year-old brother,David, prepared stamps and envelopes. My mother and grandmother found addresses for people I wanted to contact and my dad drove me around and gave me tons of encouragement when I spoke to big groups.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I passed around a piggybank for donations at the end of each speech.______________

I was interviewed on TV. _________________________________________________

【参考范文】
I passed around a piggybank for donations at the end of each speech. My audience eagerly participated, not just by contributing spare change, but also words of encouragement. The piggybank grew heavier with each passing day, filled with coins, bills and the collective spirit of a community coming together for a noble cause. It wasn’t long before I raised $2,000.With a good start,I began to visualize that statue up in the Rotunda next to the greatest Americans in history. My speech has captured the widespread attention since a TV station reached out to me.
I was interviewed on TV.The program caused a stir.Following the interview, more reports came out telling thousands more people about my goal.More supporting letters began to pour in.With joint efforts of people, enough money was raised.Excitement and gratitude filled my heart with so many people observing the relocation of the statue a century later. It was quite an experience to witness the generosity of people who are all inspired by the remarkable Susan B.Anthony, and keep the legacy of Susan B.Anthony alive for generations to come.
