四、核心语法(结果状语从句)
A. so /such ... that ...
意为 “如此…… 以至于……”,so /such 表示程度,that 后接结果状语从句,表示这一程度会造成的结果。其中 so 是副词,后跟形容词或副词;such 是形容词,后跟名词或名词短语。
基本结构与用法:
1. so +形容词/副词+ that 从句。
如:He is so clever that he can work out the problem quickly.
他是如此聪明,以至于他能快速解出这道题。
2. such+a(n)+形容词+可数名词单数形式 + that 从句。=so +形容词+ a (n) +可数名词单数形式+ that 从句
如:It is such a beautiful flower that everyone wants to have a look.
=It is so beautiful a flower that everyone wants to have a look.
这是一朵如此美丽的花,以至于每个人都想看一看。
3. such + 形容词 + 可数名词复数形式 / 不可数名词 + that 从句。
如:They are such interesting books that I want to read them again.
这些书如此有趣,以至于我想再读一遍。
This is such delicious food that we all enjoy it.
这是如此美味的食物,以至于我们都很喜欢。
注意:
①.在表示由于事物的数量所引起的结果时,使用以下结构:
(1)so+many /few + 可数名词复数形式 + that 从句。
如:There are so many books here that I don't know which to choose.
这里的书如此多,以至于我不知道选哪本。
(2)so+much /little + 不可数名词 + that 从句。
如:There is so much water in the bottle that it's too heavy to carry.
瓶子里的水如此多,以至于太重了拿不动。
②从句时态需与主句逻辑一致,若主句是过去时,从句常用过去相关时态。
例:She was so tired that she fell asleep quickly.她如此疲惫,以至于很快就睡着了。
B. too ... to ... 和 enough to
too ... to ... 和 enough to 都可以用来表结果。
1. “too +形容词/副词+(for sb.)+to do sth.” 意为 “(对某人来说)…… 太……而不能做某事”。
如:He runs too slowly (for me) to catch up.他跑得太慢,我追不上他。
2. “形容词/副词 + enough+to do sth.” 意为 “足够……可以做某事”。
如:Is the box light enough to carry?这个箱子足够轻可以搬运吗?
3. 有时,“too +形容词/副词+ to do sth.” 可与 “not +形容词/副词+ enough+to do sth.” 相互转换。
如:Lisa is too short to reach the shelf. = Lisa is not tall enough to reach the shelf.莉萨个子太矮,够不到架子。 4. 有时,“too +形容词/副词+ to do sth.” 也可与 “so +形容词/副词+ that从句” 相互转换。
