Transition to paid membership is optional after August 31st.(您的健身之旅仍在继续!8月31日后,可选择转为付费会员。)” 通读全文,根据首段“With the High School Summer PassTM, you can get FREE access to participating Planet Fitness (PF) in New York City. At first sight, Easthope doesn’t seem much like a Cassandra. She smiles a lot. Her manner is kind and motherly; pushed to name her profession, you might guess at nurse or teacher. But look closer. Easthope is an emergency planner whose job is to support the survivors of major disasters, in which capacity she acted following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the fire at Grenfell Tower. For two decades, the public knew nothing about this vital work, which went on behind the scenes, though she was hugely admired in what we might call professional disaster circles: a voice of calm and a fountain of wisdom. But in 2023, she published a best-selling book about her career, When the Dust Settles, and that changed. People became very interested in what she did. “At literary festivals, most authors get questions about their writing process,” Easthope says. “But I wouldn’t get those. What people wanted from me was to know how I lived with the knowledge that I have. Wasn’t I afraid? How did I handle? I would tell them that I didn’t live afraid, and I would give them basic advice. But this wasn’t enough.” In the end, she felt she had no choice but to write a second book, one in which she would try to distill (浓缩) all that she has learned for the benefit of each individual. While her publisher describes Come What May as a roadmap for resilience (韧性), the word is one Easthope dislikes. Ready, she suggests, is a better one. Easthope also reminds people that small things, like losing hair during illness or consuming too much food after someone dies, still matter. She encourages people to remember, not to forget, what happened during disasters, because such events leave a long-lasting effect. 4 What might a Cassandra be like according to paragraph 1? A. Severe and forbidding. B. Competent and cautious. C. Friendly and energetic. D. Cheerful and approachable. 5. What led to increased public awareness of Easthope’s work in 2023? A. The publication of a best seller. B. The growth of professional disaster circles. C. Her involvement in2004 tsunami relief. D. Her sudden rise to fame through media. 6. Why are readers’ questions cited in paragraph 3? A. To reveal Easthope’s personal fears. B. To explain Easthope’s writing process. C. To show Easthope’s writing motivation. D. To present public doubts about Easthope’s work. 7. What does Easthope agree on handling disasters? A. Resilience matters most. B. Forgetting aids recovery. C. Positive thinking takes the lead. D. Minor sufferings deserve attention. A 5. A 6. C 7. 根据第一段“At first sight, Easthope doesn’t seem much like a Cassandra. She smiles a lot. Her manner is kind and motherly; pushed to name her profession, you might guess at nurse or teacher. 故选A。 根据第二段中“For two decades, the public knew nothing about this vital work, which went on behind the scenes, though she was hugely admired in what we might call professional disaster circles: a voice of calm and a fountain of wisdom. But in 2023, she published a best-selling book about her career, When the Dust Settles, and that changed. People became very interested in what she did.(20年来,公众对这项在幕后进行的至关重要的工作一无所知,尽管她在我们所谓的专业灾难界受到极大的钦佩:她是一种冷静的声音和智慧的源泉。 故选A。 根据第三段中“I would tell them that I didn’t live afraid, and I would give them basic advice. But this wasn’t enough.” In the end, she felt she had no choice but to write a second book, one in which she would try to distill (浓缩) all that she has learned for the benefit of each individual.(“我会告诉他们,我并非在恐惧中生活,也会给他们一些基础建议。 根据最后一段中“Easthope also reminds people that small things, like losing hair during illness or consuming too much food after someone dies, still matter. She encourages people to remember, not to forget, what happened during disasters, because such events leave a long-lasting effect.(伊斯特霍普还提醒人们,一些看似微小的事 —— 比如生病时脱发、或是有人离世后因情绪波动暴饮暴食 —— 其实都值得关注。 D。 A study covering 12 countries and over 3,500 people has found something new when it comes to people’s decision-making preferences. The study offers the first test challenging a long-standing assumption that people from group-oriented societies, cultures that emphasize collective thinking and community harmony, are naturally more likely to seek advice from others and that individualistic cultures like the United States are expected to favor going it alone. The study found that people — from community members and university students in countries like Japan, Germany, and Canada to Indigenous (土生土长的) Amazonian rainforest communities — most often preferred personal thinking for decision-making, followed by relying on gut instincts (直觉). Asking friends for advice ranked third, while seeking input from larger groups was generally least preferred. The international research team conducted what they called the first wide-ranging investigation of decision-making preferences across diverse cultures. The study included participants from wealthy nations like Germany, Japan, and Canada, as well as developing countries including Morocco, Ecuador, and South Africa. They also spoke with members of two Indigenous Amazonian communities, the Shiwiar and Shipibo peoples, who live in small-sized societies that rely heavily on collective decision-making for village governance. Participants read six everyday situations requiring difficult choices made by them alone. Some involved picking between two equally attractive options. Others presented a conflict like helping a neighbor prepare their field instead of finishing one’s own work. For each situation, people chose from four decision-making approaches: relying on gut feelings, thinking it through carefully on their own, asking trusted friends for advice, or seeking input from a broader crowd. They also rated how wise they considered each approach and how good they expected to feel about decisions made using each method. The study suggested personal thinking topped the charts everywhere, preferred by 37% to 60% of participants depending on the country. It highlights an interesting contradiction in human behavior. Scientific evidence shows that seeking advice often improves decision quality: Others can point out blind spots, share useful experience, and help avoid mental prejudices. 8. What does the long-held concept think Americans do when making decisions? A. Trust their gut instincts. B. Practice self-reliance. C. Seek friends’ advice. D. Consult larger groups. 9. What’s the team’s purpose in choosing the Shiwiar and Shipibo peoples? A. To increase the samples’ diversity. B. To confirm their thinking strategies. C. To demonstrate their unique cultures. D. To promote remote community culture. 10. What might participants encounter during the test? A. Tough moral-decision questions. B. Group discussion requirements. C. Diverse advice assessed by friends. D. Collective wisdom from partners. 11. What’s the best title for the text? A Group Decision Weaknesses B. Personal Preference Contradiction C. Cross Cultural Communication Tricks D. Global Insights into Decision-Making 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. A 11. 根据第二段“The study offers the first test challenging a long-standing assumption that people from group-oriented societies, cultures that emphasize collective thinking and community harmony, are naturally more likely to seek advice from others and that individualistic cultures like the United States are expected to favor going it alone.(这项研究首次进行了相关测试,对一个长期以来的假设提出了挑战。 根据第三段“The study included participants from wealthy nations like Germany, Japan, and Canada, as well as developing countries including Morocco, Ecuador, and South Africa. They also spoke with members of two Indigenous Amazonian communities, the Shiwiar and Shipibo peoples, who live in small-sized societies that rely heavily on collective decision-making for village governance.(这项研究的参与者来自富裕国家,如德国、日本和加拿大,也包括一些发展中国家,如摩洛哥、厄瓜多尔和南非。 故选A。 根据倒数第二段“Participants read six everyday situations requiring difficult choices made by them alone. Some involved picking between two equally attractive options. Others presented a conflict like helping a neighbor prepare their field instead of finishing one’s own work.(参与者阅读了六种需要他们独自做出艰难抉择的日常情境。 故选A。 D。 Quick: what’s your best friend’s phone number? Don’t feel bad if you couldn’t answer off the top of your head. You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you. “Prosthetic memory” (人工记忆) is nothing new. Writing itself has been a means of storing information. Yet the information revolution has generated more data than ever before. We are flooded with information. We’re creating more of it, and keeping more of it. The storage capacity of the human brain has since been eclipsed. No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones. Not everyone thinks this trend in external memory is good. Historically, memory prostheses were expensive. As technologies such as printing and photography become more affordable, sharing experiences with others is easier than ever. So every breakfast, every sunset, every encounter with a cat finds its way on to social media. And here comes the worry. When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something immensely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience. But is our social media-driven transformation wholly bad? If we’re still creating and sharing memories like this, perhaps this is because we’ve not had sufficient time to learn how to do these things without thinking about what we’re doing. It is easy to ignore that the mass social media era is less than a decade old. That’s just a short blink (眨眼) in human history, yet it has totally changed how we live. I suspect we’re not far off from being directly faced with experience yet with the ability to share experience in ways less bounded by geography and time. After all, technology can protect all the moments of a life that would otherwise be lost. 12. What can be inferred from paragraph 1? A. Technology weakens our brains. B. We are burdened with phone numbers. C. We rely more on tools to memorize. D. Technology distances us from our friends. 13. What does the underlined word “eclipsed” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Improved. B. Undervalued. C. Restricted. D. Outperformed. 14. What negative effect does online sharing bring about? A. An overflow of posts. B. High cost of digital devices. C. Addiction to the virtual world. D. Disregard for authentic experience. 15. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph? A. Have faith in human brains. B. Take time to adapt to digital age. C. Quicken the pace of development. D. Make efforts to enhance memory. C 13. D 14. D 15. 根据第一段中“You have no reason to commit phone numbers to memory: it’s just there in your phone. Or perhaps you once had a phone book to store them. In either case, an object does the remembering for you.(你没有理由把电话号码记在记忆里:它就在你的手机里。 根据第二段中“The storage capacity of the human brain has since been eclipsed. No wonder, then, that we’re increasingly dependent on memory prostheses, from libraries to smartphones.(人类大脑的存储能力从此eclipsed。 根据第三段中“When we devote ourselves to capturing and sharing the world in this way, something immensely valuable is lost; when recording so much of our lives, we’re forgetting to actually live them, and so disconnect ourselves from experience.(当我们执着于以这种方式捕捉并分享世界时,某种极具价值的东西便会悄然流失;我们记录了生活中太多片段,却忘了真正去体验生活,也因此与当下的感受渐行渐远。)” 根据最后一段中“But is our social media-driven transformation wholly bad? If we’re still creating and sharing memories like this, perhaps this is because we’ve not had sufficient time to learn how to do these things without thinking about what we’re doing. It is easy to ignore that the mass social media era is less than a decade old. I vividly remember the process of moving in for the first time: stuffing clothes, comfort items, and pieces of my childhood into various bags and boxes. It was a whirlwind (旋风)of excitement. ____16____ What would it be like living at college? Would I get along with my roommate? How would I make friends with complete strangers? ____17____ I had always felt like I struggled more than others to find “my people.” In high school, I had a few close friends, but it always seemed like everyone else had these big, inseparable friend groups that did everything together. I wanted that, and the sense of belonging, too. Like many, I was attracted by the first people I met in college.____18____ We lived next to each other, ate together, and stayed up late together. They were my early friend group, and they brought laughter, growth, and memories — both positive and negative. Those highs and lows taught me an important lesson: Not every friendship is meant to last, and that’s okay. Your friendships don’t just impact your social life — they affect your motivation, your academics, and, among other things, your sense of self. I have found it valuable to surround myself with people who share my values to keep me grounded.____19____ College is one of the few places in life where you’re surrounded by people from vastly different backgrounds and experiences. Keeping an open mind is just as important as finding common ground. College can be, and probably will be, chaotic. People come and go. You’ll probably cry over friendships that didn’t work out.____20____ That’s all part of the process. Over time, you will find your people. A. They’re part of your story. B. But it was also filled with uncertainty. C. I wouldn’t trade my friendship for anything. D. They mostly so happened to be the people on my floor. E. That said, don’t limit yourself to just those who are like you. F. You may smile at memories with people no longer close with. G. Of all the unknowns, the last question consumed me the most. B 17. G 18. D 19. E 20. 【16题详解】 上文“I vividly remember the process of moving in for the first time: stuffing clothes, comfort items, and pieces of my childhood into various bags and boxes. It was a whirlwind (旋风)of excitement. 描述了作者兴奋的状态,下文“What would it be like living at college? Would I get along with my roommate? How would I make friends with complete strangers? 【17题详解】 下文“I had always felt like I struggled more than others to find “my people.” In high school, I had a few close friends, but it always seemed like everyone else had these big, inseparable friend groups that did everything together. I wanted that, and the sense of belonging, too. 【18题详解】 上文“Like many, I was attracted by the first people I met in college. 符合语境,they指代上文的the first people。故选D。 【19题详解】 上文“I have found it valuable to surround myself with people who share my values to keep me grounded. 指出与有共同价值观的人在一起很有价值,后文“College is one of the few places in life where you’re surrounded by people from vastly different backgrounds and experiences. Keeping an open mind is just as important as finding common ground. 【20题详解】 上文“College can be, and probably will be, chaotic. People come and go. You’ll probably cry over friendships that didn’t work out. 指出身边的朋友可能离开,下文“That’s all part of the process. Specifically, delicate bookshelves could be installed at the corners of each floor’s corridor. These shelves could be stocked with a diverse range of reading materials including storybooks, science magazines and classic novels. Students could drop by during breaks or after school, enjoying a quiet space to unwind from heavy studies. Not only will these corners encourage us to read regularly, but they will also add cultural charm to our campus, fostering a stronger reading atmosphere. I am looking forward to seeing these reading corners come to life. A Campus Upgrade Tip I would like to propose adding corner culture walls in the corridors. We can place them at the L-shaped corners of corridors on each floor. As for design, one section can display students’ calligraphy, paintings and short essays about campus life; another can share quotes from famous scholars or essential knowledge points. Besides, a small interactive area can be designed, where students post notes sharing insights into personal growth or study tips. Such culture walls will not only refresh the corridor’s look but also let students experience the cultural charm of the campus in daily walks. I truly believe these corner culture walls will bring fresh vitality to our campus. I am looking forward to seeing these reading corners come to life. I am looking forward to seeing the moment when these reading corners come to life. 1】Students could drop by during breaks or after school, enjoying a quiet space to unwind from heavy studies.(运用了现在分词enjoying作状语) 【高分句型2】I am looking forward to seeing these reading corners come to life.(运用了动名词seeing作宾语) 47. On a mid-September afternoon, Sista and Rafi were racing each other on the mountainside. The girls laughed wildly and stopped for a rest in the shade of a tree. “Now, I’m hungry,” Sista said. “Yeah. I could really go for a jobo. I love the sweet-and-sour taste!” Rafi said, licking her lips. “I know where there’s a great jobo tree,” Sista said. “It belongs to that lady who lives in the little house by the hill. I heard she’s severe, but sometimes she gives fruit in return for an errand (差事).” They decided to give it a shot. Raf’s heart pounded as Sista knocked on the door. An elderly woman answered. “Yes?” the lady asked, squinting (眯着眼看) at the girls. Rafi gasped, unable to speak. “We heard ...” said Sista, her voice shaky, “that you give jobos in payment for running an errand.” The lady raised one eyebrow. “Ah, yes. Payment.” She clicked her tongue. “Nothing is free, eh?” The lady led the girls into kitchen, where the smell of warm bread filled the air. She grabbed two baskets, one large and one small, “Go fill these with jobos. Come right back.” The girls raced up the hill to the tree and picked the ripest jobos. The moment they returned to the house, the lady handed them a bag filled with warm bread. “Take this bag and the large basket of jobos to the Gomez family. Do you know them?” The girls nodded. “Good. And ask them for the payment. Mrs. Gomez will place it in a large envelope,” the lady added, warning that if they returned without the envelope of payment, they wouldn’t get the jobos. Wrestling with the heavy bag and basket along the way the girls finally arrived at the Gomez home, sweating. Mrs. Gomez answered the door. Walking inside, Rafi saw colorful drawings lying everywhere. The three little Gomez kids were still busy with more pictures, pure smiles on their cute faces. “This is from the lady with the jobo tree,” Sista held up the food. Mrs. Gomez cried, “Thank you. My husband is still sick in bed. Times are hard.” “But she said to ask you for the payment too,” Rafi said with her eyes dropped. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back at the farmhouse, the girls handed the lady the large sealed envelope. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】“But she said to ask you for the payment too, ” Rafi said with her eyes dropped. “Oh yes, the payment,” Mrs Gomez said. “The payment!” chanted the children, clapping. Sista and Rafi exchanged glances in confusion, not knowing why they were excited rather than worried. Mrs Gomes then handed Sista a large sealed envelope which was stuffed full. “The payment,” Mrs. Gomez beamed and thanked the girls for their delivery service. On the way back, Rafis said, “I wonder how they can afford to pay so much for that food.” “I know,” Sista agreed, “It looks like a lot of money.” Back at the farmhouse, the girls handed the lady the large sealed envelope. She immediately pulled the contents out. Inside were colorful drawings from the little children! Mystery solved, those lovely drawings turned out to be the Gomez family’s payment. Helping the lady tape the pictures to the wall, Rafi and Sista broke out in smiles. Just then, Rafi’s stomach growled. “Here’s your payment,” the lady smiled, handing the basket of jobos to the girls. “Thank you,” they said. “Anytime,” said the lady. “Come again, girls.” On their way home, Rafi and Sista enjoyed their treat. The juice that ran down their arms was as sweet and warm as the feeling they had inside. 鼓掌:clap/clap one's hands/applaud ②.传递:hand/deliver/pass on ③.笑容满面:be all smiles / break out in smiles 情绪类 ①.感谢:thank/show one’s gratitude/be grateful ②.甜蜜的,快乐的:sweet/happy/joyful 【点睛】 [高分句型1]. 4. What might a Cassandra be like according to paragraph 1? A. A study covering 12 countries and over 3,500 people has found something new when it comes to people’s decision-making preferences. The study suggested personal thinking topped the charts everywhere preferred by 37% to 60% of participants depending on the country. A. Group Decision Weaknesses B. Personal Preference Contradiction C. Cross Cultural Communication Tricks D. Global Insights into Decision-Making Quick: what’s your best friend’s phone number? Hillary Krieger was sitting in her parents’ house with her friend, David. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
