When I started my second year of high school, an exciting opportunity came my way: a year-long exchange program in Bath, England. The thought of studying abroad filled me with both excitement and anticipation (期盼). The chance to experience a new culture, improve my English, and make international friends seemed like a dream that comes true.
I managed to apply for a host family, read about rules and how to survive homesickness, and research about Bath on the Internet. With all preparations made, I was on a plane to Bath, my heart racing with a mix of eagerness and nerves.
Upon arrival, the picturesque city with its historic architecture and beautiful streets attracted me. My host family, Mr Smith, Mrs Smith and their son Mark, welcomed me warmly, which immediately put me at ease. After my settlement at their home, I quickly found comfort in my new surroundings.
Then came my first week at school, which, however, turned out to be a whirlwind (一片忙乱) besides a feeling of freshness. The education system was different from what I was used to in my hometown. Classes were more discussion-based and I was encouraged to express my opinions, which I wasn’t comfortable with at first. My teachers and classmates were friendly and curious about my background, often asking questions about my life in China. However, I struggled to keep up with the fast-paced (快节奏的) conversations. The British accent, with its unique slang (俚语), often made it hard for me to understand. There were moments in class when I felt lost, unable to fully understand the discussions or contribute meaningfully. This was frustrating (令人沮丧的), as I had always been a top student back home.
Along with the new experience at school, homesickness began to set in. I missed my family, friends, and the familiar rhythm (节奏) of life back in China. The cultural differences, from food to social rules, made me hard to get used to at times. I found myself missing a taste of my home, both physically and mentally.

Alex sat quietly at the back of his Chinese class, his eyes fixed on the textbook before him. As a shy and unnoticed student, he felt lonely, struggling against the challenges of high school life. Ms Lau, his Chinese teacher, was a light in his dark world. Her warm smile and gentle behavior made her stand out among the sea of teachers. She was the only one who seemed to understand him, always encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone.
One day, after class, Ms Lau asked Alex to her office with excitement shining in her eyes. “Alex, I have an offer for you,” she said, her voice filled with joy. “I am organizing a cultural exchange program to China, and I believe it would be a great opportunity for you to explore a new world.”
Alex’s heart raced wildly, the thought of traveling to a foreign country both exciting and frightening. He felt worried, unsure if it was a good idea to start such an adventure. But Ms Lau’s smile gave him the push he needed to make the decision.
With Ms Lau’s help, Alex began preparing for the trip. He got really interested in Chinese culture and learned about its long history and traditions. After Ms Lau became his Chinese teacher, he learned not only the language but also invaluable life lessons from her. She taught him the importance of being confident and not giving up, reminding him that growth only happens outside one’s comfort zone.
The day of the program arrived, and Alex found himself on a plane headed for China. He couldn’t help but feel shocked as he stepped off the plane and into a world so different from his own. The busy streets, bright colors, and unfamiliar sounds flooded his senses. Yet, Ms Lau’s comforting presence by his side provided him with the strength to face the unknown.

Most nights, there was a light coming from the tiny, windswept island on the other side of the lake. (I ralways thought that was strange because, supposedly, no one lived there anymore. That’s why people called it Ghost Island. Stranger still, one night, the light was flashing. “There’s the light again,” I said to my stepbrother, Dale.
“Yeah, Strange,” he replied, looking through the water. “Take a look, Ben,” Dad said. Hc had set up his telescope to view the planets, but now it was aimed at Ghost Island. I eyed through the eyepiece. “There’s a spotlight, and it’s flashing-like there’s something in front of it.”
Dale looked too. “I bet it’s a tree branch, blowing back and forth in the wind.”
“You’re probably right,” Dad said. “Now check this out.” He pointed his telescope toward the sky and showed us Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s rings.
While we took turns looking, I asked Dad what he knew about Ghost Island.
“Mr. Mori has owned it since I was a kid, so he must be quite old by now,’ Dad said. “He used to spend summers there, but I wonder if he still comes up at all.”
“Somcone should just sell that old place,” Dale said.
Later, I turned my attention to Ghost Island again. But it had gone dark.
“I’m going to bed,” Dale said at last. “If you’re going fishing tomorrow, you’d better be up early.”
Only this time there was no wind, and the flashes appeared in a clear way. “It’s an SOS distress signal (呼救信号)!” I shouted.
Dale laughed. “Morse code? No one uses that old stuff anymore.”
“No, watch,” I insisted. “It goes dot-dot-dot, dash-dash-dash, dot-dot-dot. That’s SOS.”

When I was in college, I had to work on weekends to pay for the bills that my family couldn’t really afford (like a notebook computer, class trip, and dinner parties with friends).
One Sunday morning, when I was driving to my workplace, my old car was running out of gas and I had to pull into a gas station. After gassing up my car, I paid for the bill and then dropped my wallet somewhere around the gas station, and drove off. I hadn’t even had time to realize what had happened when my phone rang. A man asked me if I had lost my wallet. I checked my pocket and bag. And I failed to find it! He asked me to tell him how much money was in it, and I told him. After he made sure that the wallet did belong to me, he told me where to pick it up.
As I pulled into his driveway, I noticed his handicapped van (残疾人货车) and the special stairs for the disabled going up to the house. I was thinking that there was no way this man could easily get out of his handicapped van and pick my wallet up from the ground. He had to pull over, lower the lift, get in his wheelchair, and then pick it up. I was just amazed and felt sorry for him deep down in my heart.
I knocked on the door and he told me to come in. I thanked him like 10 times for finding my wallet. He didn’t say much and asked me to keep the wallet with care in the future. While I didn’t want to insult (冒犯) him by offering money, I really felt like offering something. So I asked him if there was anything I could do to repay his kindness.

In a small, cozy house on Maple Street, the Johnson family lived. It was a typical modern household with its share of joys and challenges. Mr. Johnson was a devoted lawyer who often worked late into the night. Mrs. Johnson, a passionate nurse, had long work hours at the hospital. Their son, Tim, was a high school student busy with studies and after-school activities.
As the clock struck eight, the family gathered around the dinner table as usual. But instead of warm conversation, there was an awkward silence. Mr. Johnson’s mind was still at the office, solving legal puzzles. Mrs. Johnson, exhausted from her day, could only think about the patients she had cared for. Tim was lost in social media on his phone.
“Tim,” Mrs. Johnson said gently, “would you please pass the salt?”
“Tim, did you hear me?” Mrs. Johnson was a little angry.
Tim looked up, shocked. “Sorry, Mom. What’s wrong?” After getting Mrs. Johnson’s words, he handed over the saltshaker without even making any eye contact.
Mr. Johnson sighed, feeling the distance between them. “How was your day, Tim?” he asked, trying to break the embarrassment.
“Fine,” Tim replied, not wanting to open up about his struggles with math or the pressure of upcoming exams.
The meal continued in silence, each person buried in their own world. After dinner, Tim excused himself to finish homework, while Mr. and Mrs. Johnson washed dishes side by side.
Mrs. Johnson spoke softly, “We need to find a way to connect with Tim. He seems so distant lately. We can’t let this continue.”
Mr. Johnson nodded. “I know. Work has been consuming me, and I haven’t been there for him like I should.”
Later that night, they continued to discuss how to reconnect to their son in a way Tim might accept while Tim sat at his desk, staring blankly at his math textbook. The equations blurred together, and a sense of failure welled up inside him. The next morning, as Tim was getting ready for school, he noticed a note on the kitchen table.

In a suburb of London, there lived a teenage boy, Tom, who was going through the typical rebellious (叛逆的) period like many teenagers. He felt his parents, especially his father, were constantly trying to control every aspect of his life. Tom started to come home late, ignoring the requirements his parents had set. He would skip doing his homework, preferring to play video games in his room.
When it came to his appearance, Tom chose to dress in a way that his parents disapproved of. He would wear baggy clothes with holes and put on a large amount of chains and studs (饰钉) . His hair was dyed an unusual color and styled in a spiky (刺猬式的) manner.
Tom's father, Mr. Johnson, was a strict man who believed in obeying rules and hard work. He spared no effort to support the family and always encouraged Tom to achieve excellence. He had high expectations for Tom. Therefore, he would often complain about Tom's grades, choice of friends and untidy room.
One day, Tom came home with a new haircut that annoyed his father. “What on earth is this? You look strange,” Mr. Johnson scolded (责骂) . Tom replied angrily, “It's my hair, and I can do whatever I want with it. You're always trying to control me.” This led to a huge argument, and Tom stormed off to his room, slamming the door behind him. As time went on, the relationship between Tom and his father grew worse. Tom would avoid spending time with his family, preferring to hang out or alone in his room. When asked to help with housework, he would roll his eyes and complain that they were always bossing him around. His mother was trying to mediate between the two but with little success. However, a turning point came when Tom was asked to prepare a presentation about family values. As he started to research on the topic, he realized his father's special form of love, although in a tough way.

The yearly English Drama Contest was announced. The excitement filled the hallways as students from every class began preparing for this popular event. However, due to the tight schedule, the initial play could be performed in Chinese. This activity set the stage for a fierce competition between my team and Jim’s, both choosing to act the same classic episode from “Journey to the West”.
Jim was once an exchange student to America with strong English skills, allowing him to practice their scenes effortlessly in English. Meanwhile, our team shined not in language but in performance artistry. Our drama featured traditional instruments like the flute (笛子) and hand drums setting the scene, while several talented dancers among us gracefully acted beautiful demons (妖怪). My own role as Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, stood out, acting out his spirit with accurate imitation (模仿) of his voice, actions, and even performing impressive somersaults (空翻) that left audiences in awe.
The competition was fierce, yet our efforts paid off when our performance earned widespread praise from the judges, leading us to the final round. But here laid the challenge: We had to adapt our entire lines into English, a task discouraging for our less experienced team. In desperation, I turned to Jim, who had already finished the lines in English. Unfortunately, still sad for their unexpected failure, Jim refused my request.
Refusing to give up, I hatched a plan. Sliding into their classroom during lunch break when no one was around, I took their script (剧本), went back to my seat and decided to copy it, believing it was the only way to save our hard work.

Sometimes a stranger can greatly improve our day. A pleasant meeting with a stranger can comfort us when we were in trouble.
Once, I experienced a severe turbulence (气流颠簸) on the flight to Boston. Because of that, I was extremely scared. Anxiety and fear filled my heart. All the people on the flight seemed nervous, except my seatmate, who looked friendly and calm. Then, I turned to the woman next to me and said, “Hey, would you mind chatting with me for a few minutes? I’m really nervous.”
“Sure. My name is Sue,” the woman replied, smiling warmly. “What brings you to Boston?” I started to explain that I was on a business trip. Then the plane shook violently, and suddenly I said, “I might need to hold your hand too.” Sue took my hand in both of hers, patted it, and held on tight.
When Sue Pernick took my hand on that scary flight to Boston, I almost wept (哭泣) with comfort. She was so calm and made me less frightened—“Yep, this is a little trouble, but we’ll be on the ground safely soon,” she told me—that I asked her what she did for a living. “I’m a retired P.E. teacher and I coached women’s volleyball,” she said. Immediately, I could see what an awesome coach she must have been.
Sue and I talked-about our families, our vacations, our love of the ocean—until the plane finally landed. Then the businessman sitting on the other side of her, who’d been silent the entire flight, remarked that he’d enjoyed our conversation. “It cleared my fear out,” he said. “I was scared too. I wanted to hold Sue’s hand!” When we said goodbye, I gave Sue a big hug and my e-mail address.

When we are little kids, birthday parties are momentous occasions. They are our time to shine, and we love everything about them: the balloons, the games, the cake, the gifts, and so on.
After reading cool stories about police officers solving mysteries, Allen Miller thought the police were awesome, hoping to become one of them! So, when he had to choose a theme for his seventh birthday party—he went with his favorite: the police! And all he wanted for his birthday party was a model police car. He excitedly invited some of his friends and anxiously awaited the day. Unfortunately, none of them could make it to the party due to various reasons,
Allen’s mom Rachel wrestled with the challenging decision: should she cancel the party and save Allen the embarrassment of an empty party room? He had been looking forward to the party and talking about it daily, so it would break his heart to cancel it.
Officer Frank Smith, who had already planned with Rachel and agreed to show up at the party, heard from Rachel that it might be canceled due to low attendance. That’s when he decided to save the day—he is a police officer after all! His duty is to serve and protect, and he decided to protect Allen from having a bad day, and serve him the most amazing seventh birthday party! Officer Smith got the whole local police to join in. “We like to be involved in our community. It’s not just about enforcing (执行) the law. We like to be there in the good times as well,” he explained to Rachel.
On the day of Allen’s party, Officer Smith picked up Rachel and Allen in his police car. The boy didn’t know where they were going, but was excited. They stopped at Town Hall, and officer Smith led them into the meeting room where a group of policemen were waiting to wish Allen a happy birthday.

Since childhood, Ellie had always been the shyest girl in her class. She preferred to stay in the background, rarely speaking up and avoiding attention at all costs. She admired those who could confidently share their thoughts, yet never believed she could be one of them.
She had a special way to show her sorrows and pleasures with her magical paintbrush. Whenever she held a paintbrush in her hand, she was lost in the world of her own creation. Animals, people and scenes were then brought to life on her canvas(画布). Her lifelike artworks won many painting awards and most of them were exhibited in her school many times.
However, things changed that summer. Her family moved to another city since her father got a promising job there. Ellie struggled to keep up with the lessons, and she sat alone in a corner of the classroom, not daring to approach any of the groups of chatting students.
One day, the class was assigned a group project in wildlife protection, and each group needed to create a poster. Ellie’s group quickly made an agreement, but she was left an unimportant role to hold the poster when her group leader — Alma gave a presentation. She wanted to contribute more, but her shyness held her back from expressing her ideas. The fear of being rejected or ignored made her keep silent.
The next day, Ellie’s schoolbag dropped on the floor, and her notebook with cute little illustrations drew students’ eyes. Everyone in the class wanted to have a look at her notebook. Alma shouted loudly, “Ellie, you can draw some wild animals on our poster.” Other members agreed, and Ellie nodded with a shy face.
A few weeks later, Ellie showed her poster to her group members, who were amazed at the running animals and gave their pure-hearted admiration.

A man called, asking if an owl(猫头鹰)could be rescued. Ellen Kalish was happy to help, who runs the Manhattan Wildlife Center in New York. She is used to getting calls about taking in wild animals. The caller told her where this tiny owl was hiding out. It was found inside the Christmas tree in the Rockefeller Center, where it is a yearly tradition to decorate trees. But this year, the tree looked a little worse. Many people made fun of its branches. They called the tree a “symbol of 2020”, meaning its sad look reminded them how tough the past year was.
The tale of the owl’s rescue quickly became the highlight of this year’s tree. Before the tree was put up to decorate, one of the workers caught sight of the creature. It was buried in the base of the tree. The owl most likely traveled with the tree on its journey to Manhattan. But there was no proof about where it came from and how it ended up stuck in this tree. Getting the little bird out from the base of the tree, the worker noticed that the creature got badly injured and seemed not to eat or drink anything for a few days. She was too weak to fly, but luckily she was still alive.
In that case, the worker had to bring the owl home. He named her Rocky as he spotted her in the Rockefeller Center. Considering he himself had no idea how to keep an owl, he decided to find a place that rescues wildlife animals. That was why he called the Center. After Kalish got the full story about the bird, she met the man at a gas station. Then the man handed her a box with the owl inside.

I checked my watch,8:45 P. M. It looked as if the books I’d ordered from Amazon weren’t going to get here tonight. It was a pity that I couldn’t kill time by reading after my dog died a week earlier.
My life felt so empty, and nothing was the same without him. Food didn’t taste as good. TV shows weren’t entertaining. Music, my greatest passion, didn’t move me the way it used to. My beloved piano sat untouched in the corner of the living room. It was probably as lonely as I was.
Even worse, the friends who had checked in on me so often at first came around less. The only thing I had to look forward to was Amazon deliveries which offered me a few moments of human communication with the drivers.
Unexpectedly, the door bell rang. I went to the door. There was my Amazon package, but the delivery person had left. Seeing the delivery car out there, I walked quickly towards it. The driver, a woman, had two kids with her. I gave them a friendly wave, and the passenger window slid down. “Thank you!” I said. “You’re welcome,” the driver said, her voice full of cheer. “Have a good night!”
That wasn’t what I expected from a stranger. I was deeply moved and walked over to the car. “I’m Dave,” I said. “I’m Shontia,” the driver said. “And these are my two daughters, Mariyah and Maddie.”
I didn’t know what came over me, but I blurted out, “My beloved dog passed away a week ago. I had been living alone with him more than ten years.” Shontia’s smile faded. “I’m so sorry,” she said. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
“Are you in a hurry?” I asked. “If you don’t have somewhere else to be, I’d like you and your girls to come inside. I was a music teacher. I’d like to play something for you.” “We have time,” Shontia said. They got out of the car.

“Oh no, again?” Lin Ya shouted angrily, staring at her English test score. Her heart sank as she saw the familiar low test scores. It felt like failing tests was common for her. Despite spending countless hours studying and trying her best, the scores never seemed to improve. With tears welling up in her eyes, she quickly put the paper into her bag, hoping to avoid being made fun of by her classmates.
Just then, Ms. Zhang, her gentle and caring teacher, noticed her quietly drying the tears. Ms. Zhang’s eyes softened with concern as she walked over to Lin Ya’s desk. In a kind and encouraging voice, she asked Lin Ya to come to see her during lunchtime. Lin Ya felt a mix of curiosity and hope. She couldn’t wait for lunchtime to come.
When the lunch bell finally rang, Lin Ya quickly packed her things and hurried to Ms. Zhang’s office. Ms. Zhang greeted her with a warm smile and let her sit next to her. She looked carefully at Lin Ya’s face, smiled warmly, and said, “Don’t worry. I know what’s on your mind. If you trust me, I believe we can work together to find a solution.”
Lin Ya nodded, a light of hope shining in her eyes. Ms. Zhang then took out Lin Ya’s test paper and patiently explained each question to her. She pointed out the grammar mistakes and vocabulary problems that Lin Ya had made. After that, Ms. Zhang gave her some practical suggestions. Lin Ya listened attentively, taking notes carefully.
Ms. Zhang added, “With three important qualities: diligence (勤勉), determination and strategies, you can make progress and achieve success. The first step is always the hardest, but if you keep going forward and don’t give up, you’ll be successful. Come on, cheer up, and let’s work on it together.”

Around 5:30 a. m., I met my running group — the Los Angeles Road Runners training team. I had trained with them for ten long months. That ten months left me with blisters (水泡) and backaches. But my pace leaders reassured me that no matter what, I should keep going. I knew my very first marathon was coming. More importantly, my daughter Kate would wait for me at the finish line.
It was for Kate that I came up with the idea of training for marathon. My girl was struggling with her academic performance at school, especially in maths. Failing again and again beat her so heavily that she told me one day that she wanted to give up.
Of course I was angry at first. A few days later, however, it just struck me that actions speaks louder than words. Therefore, I decided to challenge myself with something that was to me what maths was to Kate, and I promised to her I would make it.
At about 6:30 a. m., I went to the starting gates and my excitement grew as the gun shot for the start and I was on cloud nine.
It was a 26-mile run. The first few miles were quite easy, but by mile 8 the pain was starting to spread all over my body, as if it had been growing like a cancer. I had no choice but to slow down. Slowing down is much better than quitting, so I slowed down from my group and realized that the rest of this race was going to be just me and the road.
Mile 12 brought about doubts whether I could even finish this race. By mile 15, my pace had slowed even further. Mile 18 brought me into familiar territory — my neighbourhood. I had slowed to a walk by this point because my body didn’t want to move an inch. I wanted to just walk home. By mile 21, I’d been running for 4 hours with what seemed like no end in sight.

(2)开头已给出。
When it came to mile 22, I passed my neighbourhood again.

【答案】参考范文:
Recognizing my struggle, people around me stepped in to support me. On weekends, Mr Smith would take me on a trip to many attractions, some even I had only read about in textbooks. Mrs Smith went out of her way to make me feel at home by cooking Chinese dishes. Mike shared his own experiences of studying abroad to comfort me. At school, my teachers were patient and understanding, offering extra help with assignments and encouraging me to join clubs to make new friends. My classmates invited me to see movies, play hockey, and go to concerts. Everyone was warm, open, and never hesitant in offering help.
Gradually, I began to adapt to (适应) the life here. I offered to share Chinese culture with my host family. I joined the school’s debate club, which helped me improve my English and gain confidence in speaking. I also participated in a local volunteer group, where I met people from different backgrounds, each with their own unique stories. These experiences broadened my perspective and helped me feel more connected to my new environment. As the months passed, Bath began to feel like a second home. I developed a close connection with people here that I knew would last a lifetime.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Dale was doubtful that we’d find anyone, but we set out for Ghost Island. As we approached the shore, we spotted an old man waving a flashlight weakly. It was Mr. Mori! He looked tired and relieved at the same time when we reached him. He explained that he had fallen and injured his leg while checking his equipment, and had been unable to walk back to his cabin. The SOS signal was his last resort. We quickly helped him onto our boat and headed back to shore, where we called for medical assistance.
Mr. Mori managed a weak smile. “I wasn’t sure anyone would catch the signal.” We assured him that we were glad we did. The paramedics arrived shortly after, and they took Mr. Mori to the hospital. Later, we learned that he had been on the island for a routine maintenance check, not realizing the danger he was in. Thanks to our quick response and the ancient Morse code, Mr. Mori’s life was saved. From then on, Ghost Island was no longer a place of mystery, but a reminder of the importance of being prepared and observant.

One day about 10 years later, I found a wallet.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A moment later, looking into my eyes, he said, “Just pass it on.” I was a bit confused at first, but then I realized the profound meaning behind his words. It wasn’t about material rewards; it was about the power of kindness spreading from one person to another. I nodded firmly, promising myself that I would always be ready to help others in need. As I left his house, I carried this new-found mission in my heart, determined to make a difference in someone else’s life.
One day about 10 years later, I found a wallet. Inside it were a driver’s license, some cash, and several credit cards. Remembering what the kind man had told me, I didn’t hesitate. I immediately called the number on the driver’s license. When the owner arrived, he was extremely grateful, just as I had been all those years ago. I simply smiled and said, “Just pass it on.” Seeing the surprised yet touched look on his face, I knew that the chain of kindness was still going strong, and it would continue to brighten the world, one good deed at a time.

【答案】范文
The note read, “Tim, let’s go for a bike ride tonight. Love, Mom and Dad.” A wave of excitement filled Tim as it had been a long time since the family did something fun together. That evening, bathed in the bright moonlight, they set off on their bikes, riding through the neighborhood park. As they pedaled along, Mr. Johnson suggested they play a game where everyone shared something positive that happened during the day. The game brought laughter and deeper conversations that made each one feel more relaxed and comforted. And this was just the beginning.
From that day on, the Johnsons made efforts to create more moments like these. From bike rides to weekend picnics, from the cinema to the park, they kept scheduling regular family outings as well as established a tradition of sharing stories over dinner. Through these moments, puzzles were solved and great ways of thinking were shared, bringing out the sincerity and love once hidden under work and misunderstanding. Though life remained busy, they realized that with a little creativity and devotion, they could build stronger bonds and make sure their love and care were always felt.

【答案】Recalling what his father had done for the family, Tom decided to take the first step towards the end of the situation. He took a deep-breath and walked out of his room. He found his father sitting in the living-room, looking a bit tired. Tom sat down beside him and softly said, “Dad, I’m sorry for my rudeness. I know you care about me.” Then he began to talk about his thoughts and feelings, how he was influenced by his friends and why he dressed in that strange way. His father listened attentively, without interrupting.
His father’s expression softened. He put his hand on Tom’s shoulder and said, “Son, I also should apologize. I’ve been too strict and didn’t listen to you enough. I just want the best for you.” From then on, they had an open-hearted conversation. Tom understood his father’s love was tough but deep, and his father also tried to understand Tom’s world. They agreed to respect each other more. Since then, the relationship between Tom and his father became much better, and Tom also made positive changes in his behavior and attitude.

【答案】 As I was busy copying it, Jim appeared before me. My heart skipped a beat as I looked up to see his face, a mix of surprise and disappointment. “What are you doing?” he asked, his voice firm yet tinged with sadness. I stammered, trying to explain my desperation and the pressure our team was under. Jim listened quietly, his expression softening. “I understand,” he finally said, “but this isn’t the way. Let’s work together to make this better.” His words caught me off guard, but I saw the sincerity in his eyes. We decided to collaborate, merging our strengths to create something truly special.
On the day of the final show, we were fully prepared with Jim’s lines written for us. The stage was set, and the audience was eager. As the curtains rose, our combined efforts shone through. The English dialogue, polished by Jim’s expertise, flowed smoothly, enhancing the performance. My portrayal of Sun Wukong, now enriched with Jim’s input, captivated the audience. The traditional instruments and graceful dances added a unique charm, blending seamlessly with the English narrative. The applause at the end was thunderous, a testament to our unity and hard work. We had not only overcome our challenges but had also set a new standard for the Competition, proving that collaboration can lead to extraordinary results.

A few days later, I received an e-mail. “I have to admit that I was just as scared as you were but did not say it.” Sue wrote. “I just held your hand as hard as I could. Thank you for helping me through this very scary situation.” She added that when she told her friends about our conversation, they teased her because they know she loves to talk. I told my friends about Sue too. I explained how kind she was to me, and what I learned: It’s OK to ask for help from a stranger if you need it.
I decided to be a person like Sue. I was a waitress in a restaurant, where many customers were people in the community nearby. Some of them were old people, who lived alone. From then on, I viewed them as my families. When they came for meals, I would provide them with warm greetings and serve them kindly. The customers were grateful for my good service. More and more people came to my restaurant. I thanked Sue for my change.

【答案】There, a party was waiting for him. The moment Allen stepped inside, a chorus of “Happy Birthday” filled the meeting room, and he found himself surrounded by lots of police officers holding balloons. Officer Smith introduced him to all the officers, who gave him high fives. Allen was thrilled, and his eyes sparkled with excitement as he looked at the grand police-themed cake. As Allen cut into the cake with the help of his mom, the room erupted into cheers and laughter, adding to the joyful atmosphere.
After they enjoyed the cake, officer Smith took out a gift bag. “It’s for you.” He presented the delicately wrapped parcel to Allen, who was stunned by the surprise. “Wow, a model police car! It looks exactly like the one we came here in! Thank you!” Officer Smith smiled, “Anytime, Allen.” Allen hugged Officer Smith and thanked him again for making the otherwise crushing disappointment his time to shine. It was the local heroes who helped by being part of the community and inspiring the young soul in small but effective ways.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
When it was time to practice, Alma didn’t show the content of poster clearly. Ellie felt a bit disappointed but decided to take the initiative. She stepped forward and began to explain the ideas behind the drawings on the poster. Her voice was a little trembling at first, but as she got more involved in the explanation, she became more confident. She pointed out the unique features of each wild animal she drew and how they related to the theme. Alma and the other group members listened attentively, and their surprised expressions turned into admiration.
As the presentation began, Ellie took a deep breath and began to speak. She introduced the poster with passion, explaining how she tried to convey the beauty and importance of wild animals through her drawings. This time, she didn’t stutter or avoid eye contact. Instead, she made eye-contact with her classmates, who were all attracted by her words. Her once-hidden talent was finally fully shown. After the presentation, the classroom erupted into applause. Ellie felt a sense of pride and accomplishment she had never felt before. She realized that she could also shine brightly in front of others, just like those she had always admired.

【答案】Kalish took the box carefully. She opened the box gently. The owl was standing in a cardboard box, looking straight at her. “I thought, this is a miracle! How did this bird survive this trip?” She named the owl Rockefeller, or “Rocky.” “She was super hungry,” she says, estimating that she probably had not been able to eat or drink for at least a few days. She immediately gave her water and food—a few frozen mice—which she ate quickly. A veterinarian examined her, and x-rays showed that she had no broken bones or inner damage. By Thursday, Rocky started to bathe herself—a sign she was feeling good. An owl bath, Kalish says, leads to “water everywhere.”
Rocky didn’t look that terrible as she was in the box a week before. On Friday, Kalish moved Rocky to an outdoor practice cage so she could get used to new circumstance and Kalish could monitor her flight. By Tuesday at dusk, she seemed ready to go. Kalish brought Rocky to a clearing of nearby forest, removed her from her carrier and raised her toward the sky. Rocky sat on Kalish’s hand for several moments, surveying her surroundings. Then, she flew off, settling in a nearby pine tree.

I sat down on the bench and played a melancholic yet soothing piece, “Moonlight Sonata”, pouring my heart and soul into every note. The music seemed to heal the wound in my heart, and I could see the girls’ faces light up with wonder. Shontia listened quietly, tears welling up in her eyes. When I finished, there was a moment of silence, and then the girls clapped enthusiastically. “That was beautiful!” Mariyah exclaimed. “Can you teach me how to play?” she asked eagerly. I smiled and nodded, feeling a sense of purpose for the first time since my dog’s passing.
Next day, they brought me a surprise gift in return for my piano teaching. It was a small, handmade plaque with the words “Thank You for Sharing Your Music” engraved on it. Along with it was a bouquet of fresh flowers, their vibrant colors bringing a touch of life to my otherwise dull living room. “We wanted to show our appreciation,” Shontia said, her voice filled with gratitude. “Your music has touched us deeply.” I was deeply touched by their kindness and generosity. From that day on, our friendship grew stronger, and I found joy in teaching Mariyah and Maddie how to play the piano. My life, once filled with emptiness, was now filled with music, laughter, and the warmth of newfound friendships.

注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)开头已给出。
When it came to mile 22, I passed my neighbourhood again.

【答案】
When it came to mile 22, I passed my neighbourhood again. Tiredness overwhelmed me, and every step felt like a struggle against a strong wind. Just as I was about to give up, I remembered the promise I made to Kate. I thought about her disappointed face if I quit. Gathering all my remaining strength, I forced myself to run again. With each step, I pictured Kate waiting for me at the finish line, which gave me the courage to keep going despite the excruciating pain.
Finally, the smiling face of Kate came into my sight. She was jumping up and down, cheering loudly. Seeing her, I found a new burst of energy and sprinted towards the finish line. As I crossed it, I was exhausted but filled with pride. Kate rushed towards me and hugged me tightly. “Mom, you made it! I knew you could do it,” she exclaimed. Looking at her beaming face, I knew that my effort was worth it. I had not only completed the marathon but also set an example for Kate. From that day on, she was determined to face her difficulties in maths bravely, just like I did in the marathon.
