Last summer, high school cheerleader and sport star Aubrey Barnett noticed a continuous neck pain. By the start of her senior year in September 2024, the teen from Monroe, had been found having Burkitt lymphoma. “It’s one of the most serious cancers (癌症),” says Dr. John Bergsagel. “It can double in size every 24 hours.”
“I didn’t really believe it,” Aubrey said. “I was just living a normal life. There’s no way I have cancer. I’m fine. And then when they told me, I was like, ‘Are you all serious?’ Like, I didn’t really know what to feel.”
The good news is that there is a good chance of recovering well if given treatment (治疗) in time. Aubrey spent much of the fall season of her senior year in the hospital. For three months, Aubrey stood painful treatment, which caused mouth sores (溃疡). Her mother, Chancey Barnett, said she couldn’t open her mouth, making eating and talking difficult. Her mother spoke about how Aubrey’s cancer journey deeply influenced their family and her daughter’s future. Now Aubrey plans to run track and study nursing or exercise science. Encouraged by the care she received, she’s also considering a job in nursing. “I started a GoFundMe to help buy gifts and care products for other patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I want to work there when I get older. I think that I could help other kids get through their tough times.” Aubrey says.

A new study carried out in the Netherlands shows that banning (禁止) phones in schools may be helping students focus (专注) in class and get a better social environment. The research was done after January 2024, when Dutch schools started to follow national guidelines banning students from using smartphones in class.
The research studied the effects (影响) of the phone ban at 317 high schools and 313 elementary schools. Researchers also held group talks with teachers students and parents. In elementary schools, the ban’s effect was hardly noticeable, as fewer younger children have their own phones, or don’t usually bring them to school. But the results were much clearer in high schools, where 75% of schools said students were more focused after the ban. 59% of high schools said students were more social, and 28% said they saw better grades.
According to Alexander Krepel, one of the study’s researchers, the clearest change was in how students communicated with each other. Before the ban, students often used their phones during breaks. Now, he noted, they’re “forced to talk”. Krepel also mentioned that the ban has made schools feel safer, because students can no longer secretly take and share photos.
While the Dutch study found some good effects of banning phones in schools, other research has shown mixed results. A study from the University of Birmingham looked at over 1,200 students in UK schools with and without phone bans. It found no big difference in focus, behavior, or mental(精神的)well-being according to school rules alone.
However, it did find that students who spent more time on phones and social media in general had worse sleep, lower grades and more problems with behavior. Victoria Goodyear, who worked on the UK study, said schools need to help students reduce total screen time. “We need to do more than just ban phones in schools,” she said.
8. How did the author present the findings of the Dutch study?
A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers.
C. By giving examples. D. By discussing reasons.
9. What is the clearest change happening after the Dutch ban?
A. Teachers use phones secretly. B. Schools become more noisy.
C. Students talk more face to face. D. Parents communicate with kids more.
10. What is the purpose of paragraph 4?
A. To introduce another opinion. B. To support the Dutch research.
C. To show the effect of school rules. D. To give background information.
11. What did Victoria Goodyear suggest schools do?
A. Just ban phones in schools. B. Improve students’ grades.
C. Increase after-school activities. D. Control students’ screen time.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. A 11. D

In an age controlled by technology and testing, the importance of developing creativity (创造力) in students has never been clearer. With so many students focusing on math, science, and other subjects, it’s easy for creative fields like writing to be pushed to the side. However, creative writing has value that goes beyond just producing stories. It is a tool for self-expression, problem-solving, and critical (批判的) thinking.
When students write creatively, they often face challenges that require them to think critically. Whether they are inventing characters or solving dialogue problems, creative writing pushes them to think outside the box. This helps them improve their thinking skills, which they can use in other areas of study. Creative writing often includes coming up with answers to problems in the story. This requires students to think carefully and critically. In turn, this way helps improve their problem-solving abilities, which are valuable in study and everyday life.
Creative writing gives students the chance to express their feelings in a healthy way. By writing about personal experiences or imagining situations that are far removed from their own lives, students can organise their thoughts and feelings. Writing has been shown to improve mental health and growth. Students in Jacksonville, Florida, who are given space to express their feelings through creative writing may be better at dealing with the stress of school, relationships, and life in general.
One of the clearest advantages of creative writing is that it encourages imagination which is a key point for creativity. Creative writing encourages students to use their imaginations to create whole worlds, characters, and stories. It makes them think in different ways, helping them learn to innovate (创新). This is particularly important as students grow older and enter the workplace. Companies are increasingly looking for workers who are creative and able to think on their feet, which shows you’re a skilled problem solver when in trouble. By developing creativity through creative writing, schools can help students develop skills that will be valuable in any job.
12. What does the author mainly want to stress in paragraph 1?
A. Learning science is important. B. Creative writing is valuable.
C. Most students dislike writing. D. Students become more creative.
13. How can creative writing make students better at solving problems?
A. By helping them get better test scores. B. By teaching them to write in a new way.
C. By making them forget real-life problems. D. By asking them to solve problems in stories.
14. Why does the author mention students in Jacksonville, Florida in paragraph 3?
A. To praise the students’ writing styles.
B. To give reasons for dealing with stress.
C. To show creative writing’s role in mental health.
D. To explain the value of imagination for creativity.
15. What does the underlined part “think on their feet” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Make decisions quickly. B. Depend on others’ advice.
C. Stand up while thinking. D. Think before they act.
【答案】12. B 13. D 14. C 15. A

Actually, if you talk to teenagers about parents’ behavior on the sports field, you’ll get a lot of dissatisfactions.(·不要成为那样的家长。 “We think parents should cheer, but it should be positive.” Thompson says. “You can say, ‘Hey, good kick.’ But you shouldn’t say, ‘Hey, kick it to Julie.’”(积极教练联盟执行董事汤普森建议,在比赛期间采用 ‘无指令’式的加油。

One possible version:
Dear Ryan,
I’m more than delighted to hear that you’re planning to add a fun activity in our English class. After weighing both options, I prefer the “Three-minute presentation”. The reasons are as follows.
Firstly, this activity can improve our comprehensive language skills, because we need to organize ideas, express them clearly, and even answer possible questions, which is more practical for daily communication. Secondly, it helps build confidence. Speaking in front of the class makes us braver when using English in real life. Lastly, presentations can cover various topics, from hobbies to social issues, not only sparking students’ interest but also bringing fresh knowledge to the class.
Hope you can take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The teacher’s hand froze in the middle of writing something on the blackboard and the whole class laughed, when Mohi rushed into the classroom. Having recovered from his original shock, the teacher turned around to face the rest of the students. Gradually, the laughter died out.
“Sorry,” Mohi said quickly and hurried to his seat.
Mohi was jokingly called “little Einstein” by his classmates, because he was so absent-minded that he seldom showed up with proper clothing. Today, he wore a pair of funny green shoes that were too big for his feet. And his half-buttoned shirt showed a very silly red underwear. Actually, Mohi’s classmates always looked forward to such moments that helped to brighten up their boring school life.
Although his classmates found Mohi funny, they paid no attention to him most of the time. And Mohi seemed too lost in his own thoughts to care about making friends with them, either. Mohi’s only friend was Hamed, who sat beside him.
One day, Mohi did not show up at school. After school, Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi’s house to check on him. As he walked to the gate, he could hear violin music. “Mohi has never played music at school,” he thought. “Maybe, he is listening to a record.”
He called Mohi’s name several times but there was no response. As the gate was not locked, Hamed let himself in. His eyes widened in surprise: At the center of the living room, Mohi was lost in playing the violin. With his eyes tightly closed, Mohi played so beautifully that the music seemed like coming from a classic record.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When Teachers’ Day came around, Hamed thought of a good idea.

The teachers and students were surprised to see Mohi walk onto the stage with a violin.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
When Teachers’ Day came around, Hamed thought of a good idea. It was the tradition of the class to have a concert for their teachers on Teachers’ Day and every student could volunteer to play his or her favorite music in front of the class. Hamed shared his idea with Mohi. At first, Mohi was unwilling to play. After Hamed told him how talented he was in music, Mohi eventually agreed to have a try. And Hamed offered to practice playing the violin with him.
The teachers and students were surprised to see Mohi walk onto the stage with a violin. They had never seen him play any instrument or sing a song in public. But as soon as he started to play, they fell silent. As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence, which was followed by thunderous applause. After the applause died down, Mohi cleared his throat and said shyly, “Thanks to my teachers and classmates for tolerating my absent-mindedness. Thanks to Hamed who always tries to see the best side of me.”

For three months, Aubrey stood painful treatment, which caused mouth sores (溃疡). Her mother, Chancey Barnett, said she couldn’t open her mouth, making eating and talking difficult. Through it all, Aubrey’s spirit remained strong. After finishing treatment in December, she took part in a state cheer-leading competition and returned to the track team, where she broke her personal record.
Aubrey marked her high school graduation on May 20, 2025 at Walnut Grove High School. At the graduation, the President Allen said, “Aubrey graduated with straight A’s and is headed to Emmanuel University. Her victory over cancer while continuing to stand out in school is a great example of what willpower and hope can achieve. Her strength, courage, and uplifting spirit have moved our school community. We are proud of her.”
Researchers also held group talks with teachers, students and parents.
12 What does the author mainly want to stress in paragraph 1?
15 What does the underlined part “think on their feet” mean in the last paragraph?
A. Make decisions quickly. B. Depend on others’ advice.
C. Stand up while thinking. D. Think before they act.

Although his classmates found Mohi funny they paid no attention to him most of the time.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

When Teachers’ Day came around, Hamed thought of a good idea.
