A lot of people build up the first day to be the most intimidating (令人惊恐的) thing. I went from a tiny middle school to this giant high school and was expecting not to know where anything was. I also was panicking because I knew ninth grade would have higher expectations than eighth, and I wasn’t sure how I would do at taking on that challenge. The one thing that kept me calm was that my best friend Dora is actually at my new school, so I have someone to talk to or at least go to when I don’t know what I’m doing. I had to take the bus to school, which was not something I’d had to do before. Dora and I took the bus together and we talked the whole way there about how we thought the first day would turn out. When we entered the school, everyone was hugging and saying hi and I was awkwardly standing there and holding onto my friend’s bag through the crowd of people. I hated crowds so I stayed with Dora who was probably annoyed by me holding onto her the whole morning. I started to calm down when we all were waiting for the first bell to ring. When Dora and I had to separate, I didn’t want to go to class. When I did, I simply stood at the door because I had no idea where to sit. I sat in the way back. My teacher seemed friendly so I was a little calm. My deskmate Jane barely talked, but when she did, she seemed really nice. Although a lot of students might not laugh when I made a strange joke, they weren’t rude. My teachers told us about the high expectations for their school and I was kind of worried because I came from a school where I didn’t have too much work or high expectations. After maths class, we needed to go to another classroom to have history class. I was a little scared because I had no idea where to go. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ During lunch, Jane and I joined Dora at a table. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】     I was a little scared because I had no idea where to go. The hallways were a sea of unfamiliar faces, and the noise level was overwhelming. I clutched my schedule tightly, trying to navigate through the bustling crowds. Dora had a different schedule, so I was on my own. I felt like everyone else knew exactly where they were going, while I was lost in a maze. Suddenly, I heard Jane call my name. With the help of Jane, I found my next classroom just as the bell rang. I slipped into a seat, feeling relieved but still nervous about what the rest of the day would bring.     During lunch, Jane and I joined Dora at a table. At first, I introduced Jane to Dora. Then Dora introduced us to some of her other friends, and although I was still a bit shy, I tried to join in the conversation. It was comforting to have a familiar face and to see that not everyone was as confident as they seemed. As the day went on, I started to feel more comfortable. By the end of the day, I realized that high school wasn’t as intimidating as I had feared, and I was ready to face the challenges ahead with a bit more confidence. 词汇激活 行为类 ①紧握:clutch tightly/grasp firmly/hold tight ②.加入:join in/participate in/take part in ③.意识到:realize/become aware of/recognize 情绪类 ①.宽慰的:relieved/eased/comforted ②.紧张的:nervous/anxious/uneasy 【点睛】[高分句型1]. Daddy!” Betsy shouted, bouncing down the stairs two at a time with hair flying and eyes shining. “Guess what! Mrs. Billings, my teacher, put up a great big paper tree trunk (树干) on the wall. Every time somebody does something good and receives a compliment (夸奖), he gets to put a branch with his name on it on the tree.” “Sounds interesting,” said Daddy. “Did you get a compliment today?” “No, but Toby did. He washed all the colored chalk off the desks. I sure hope I will get a compliment tomorrow.” At school the next day Patricia got a compliment for erasing all the chalkboards, and Matt got a compliment for doing his best writing. Yet Betsy did not get a compliment. The following day started out no better. When Betsy leaned back (仰靠) in her chair to stretch, she lost her balance and fell over with a loud crash. At lunchtime she accidentally knocked over Ronnie’s milk. “I’ll never get a compliment this way,” she thought sadly. At the end of the day Mrs. Billings passed out some math tests the children had done the day before. “Boys and girls, only one person got 100 points in the math test. Congratulations, Betsy! Come up and get a branch to put on the Compliment Tree.” “Oh, boy!” Betsy cried excitedly. After school she ran home as fast as she could, her math test held tightly in one fist. “Guess what, Daddy! Guess what!” Betsy breathlessly poured out her good news. Later that evening, as Betsy looked happily at her math test with the gold star on it, her eyes stopped at the answer to one of the problems. “Oh, no!” she sighed. “Look, Daddy! I made a mistake! See?” “Well, it looks like you have a decision to make, Betsy,” said Daddy. “But I don’t want to lose my compliment!” Betsy said quietly. You’re old enough to know what’s right, Betsy,” said Daddy. He put his arm around her and added, “If I know my girl, she’ll make the right choice.” The next day Betsy walked to school very slowly. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ At the end of the day, Mrs. Billings announced that Betsy could receive a special branch. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The next day Betsy walked to school very slowly. Reaching the classroom door, her heart pounded. Taking a deep breath, Betsy approached Mrs. Billings’ desk. “Mrs. Billings,” she said quietly, holding out the test, “I found a mistake. I shouldn’t have gotten 100 or the branch.” Mrs. Billings looked at the paper, then at Betsy’s earnest face. A warm smile spread across her face. “Thank you for telling me, Betsy,” she said gently. “That was very honest.” Betsy felt a knot in her stomach loosen, though the loss of the branch still stung. At the end of the day, Mrs. Billings announced that Betsy could receive a special branch. Before dismissal, Mrs. Billings gathered the class. “Children,” she began, “Betsy discovered a mistake on her perfect math test and bravely chose to tell me about it, even knowing it meant she might lose her Compliment Tree branch.” Mrs. Billings continued, “Because Betsy showed such remarkable honesty, she deserves a very special branch on our Compliment Tree — one for doing what was right, even when it was hard.” She handed Betsy a bright green branch. A wave of happiness washed over Betsy, brighter than the gold star had ever made her feel. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跳动:pound/beat ②发现:discover/find ③席卷:wash over/overwhelm 情绪类 ①真诚:earnest/sincere ②勇敢地:bravely/courageously/boldly 【点睛】[高分句型1] Reaching the classroom door, her heart pounded.(运用了现在分词作状语) [高分句型2] Because Betsy showed such remarkable honesty, she deserves a very special branch on our Compliment Tree – one for doing what was right, even when it was hard.(运用了what引导宾语从句和when引导的时间状语从句) 3. Axel entered my life 20 years ago, leaning against the door of Room 101. He wore sneakers three sizes too large and pants torn at the knees. Axel made an entrance into the school of a village known for its old money, fashionable homes and golden mailboxes. He told me his last school had been in a neighboring county. “We were picking fruit,” he said frankly. I suspected this friendly, smiling boy in rags from an immigrant family (移民家庭) didn’t know he had been thrown into a group of ten-year-old lions who had never before seen torn pants. The circle of boys tightened when Axel approached, their turned backs forming a solid wall. Despite being impolitely treated, Axel didn’t let on.There was no chip on his shoulder. They eyed Axel doubtfully until the baseball game. With it came a bit of respect from the critics (批评家) of Room 101. In the baseball game, Charles, the most overweight child in the class, was the least athletic. After Charles’s second strike, with the eyes and groans of the class, Axel inched up and spoke quietly to the boy’s depressed back, “Forget them, kid. You can do it.” Charles warmed, smiled, stood taller and quickly struck out anyway. But at that precise moment, Axel had gently begun to change things — and us. By autumn’s end, we had all been attracted by him. He taught us all kinds of lessons. How to call a wild turkey. How to tell whether fruit is ripe before that first bite. How to treat others, even Charles. Especially Charles. He never did use our names, calling me “Miss” and the students “kid”. The day before winter vacation, Axel walked to my desk and bent close to my ear. “Miss, my mother said we were moving to another place, so I need to leave school earlier today to pack up.” At the news, my voice caught in my throat. When Axel was away, I gently broke the news to the class. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next morning, to Axel’s surprise, piles of gifts were lying on his desk. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】      When Axel was away, I gently broke the news to the class. A stunned silence fell over Room 101. Charles looked especially sad, his shoulders dropping. One student murmured, “But he taught me turkey calls!” Then came another voice, “Who’ll help me with peaches?” Suddenly, Charles sprang to his feet and yelled, “We can’t let him leave like this!” Others nodded hard, voices mixed, “Yeah, we should do something for him!” Watching them silently and smilingly, I felt a sense of warmth and pride sweeping over me. Within minutes, they made a decision: everyone would bring something meaningful by tomorrow morning. The next morning, to Axel’s surprise, piles of gifts were lying on his desk. Colorfully wrapped presents, handmade cards... Slowly approaching, with trembling hands, Axel picked up a card signed by the whole class, tears rolling down his cheeks, “Thanks, kids.Really.” Charles stepped forward and hugged him tightly, saying, “Thank you, Axel. Friends never say goodbye!” All others gathered around, eyes filled with tears. Axel looked around at the faces, the once unfriendly “lions” softened. I knew, in that pile of gifts hid the greatest one — Axel’s kindness and love, which changed Room 101’s lions. 词汇激活 行为类 ①大叫到:yell/ shoute ②拥抱:hug/ embrace ③走近:approach/get close 情绪类 ①悲伤的:sad / sorrowful ②感谢:thank sb/be grateful to sb 【点睛】[高分句型1]Watching them silently and smilingly, I felt a sense of warmth and pride sweeping over me.(运用了非谓语动词中的现在分词作状语) [高分句型2]I knew, in that pile of gifts hid the greatest one — Axel’s kindness and love, which changed Room 101’s lions.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 4. Liang Li had just transferred (转学) to a new high school in a big city. Everything felt unfamiliar- the school layout, the teachers, the students with their established groups, and even the canteen food. The first few days were hard. He spent most breaks alone in the classroom, pretending to read, but he was absent-mind. The students were polite, but he felt invisible, as if a wall separated him from them. One afternoon, while walking through the school grounds, he saw a group of classmates trying to organize a soccer game. One boy, Zhang Tao, was struggling to carry a ball and cones, trying to set up the field by himself. Without thinking, Liang Li walked over and offered to help. Zhang Tao smiled, relieved. “Thanks! You can join us if you want. We need one more player.” Liang Li hesitated. He had never been good at soccer and wasn't sure he would fit in with these athletic students. “I’m not good at soccer,” he said awkwardly. But Zhang Tao shrugged. “It’s not about being good. We just want everyone to have fun.” Encouraged, Liang Li decided to join. Though he felt clumsy (笨拙的) at first, the others were friendly and patient. They joked, helped him understand the rules, and cheered when he made progress. Liang Li began to enjoy the game and, for the first time in days, felt a sense of belonging. After the game, Zhang Tao clapped him on the back and said, “You did great for your first time! ” The next few days, Liang Li looked forward to the soccer games. He became a regular member of the group, his skills improving. But more importantly, he started forming connections with his classmates, laughing and joking with them. His heart was pounding in his chest, but he pushed aside his nervousness and focused on the game. He managed to pass the ball to a teammate, who quickly scored a goal. The team cheered, and Liang Li couldn’t help but smile. He wasn’t the best player, but he felt like an important part of the team. The match was intense, but they played with teamwork and spirit. At the end of the game, they won by a narrow margin. Later that afternoon, Liang Li sat with his teammates under a tree, laughing and sharing snacks. Zhang Tao handed him a bottle of water and gave him a pat on the back. “You did great today!” he said. Liang Li smiled, feeling a sense of belonging that he had never felt before. Thanks to his new friends and their encouragement, he was no longer the lonely new student. The experience had not only brought him closer to his teammates but had also given him the confidence to embrace new challenges. 词汇激活 行为类 ①专注于:focused on/concentrated on ②递给:handed /gave ③拥抱:embrace/ hug 情绪类 ①激烈的:intense/ drastic ②信心:confidence /self-assurance 【点睛】[高分句型1]He managed to pass the ball to a teammate, who quickly scored a goal.(运用了who引导的非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2]Liang Li smiled, feeling a sense of belonging that he had never felt before.(运用了非谓语动词中的现在分词作状语及that引导的定语从句) 5. Jane started high school full of excitement. Eager to help her new class, teachers and classmates, she decided to run for (竞选) monitor. She was very happy when their head teacher, Mr. Johnson, announced she won. She dreamed of leading her class to be the best in the whole school. However, problems came one by one. During self-study time, some classmates talked loudly; some even played music. Jane would stand up and tell everyone angrily, “Be quiet! It’s study time!” But her loud orders didn’t work. Tom, who was supposed to clean the blackboard, often “forgot”. Jane shouted to remind him of his duty, which only made Tom quite embarrassed and unhappy. Jane also announced her plans for group study after school, expecting everyone to join in it. But obviously most students weren’t interested and complained about the extra “work”. Jane felt more and more disappointed and helpless. Her direct orders seemed to push people away instead of bringing them together. Her dream of a top united class seemed to be broken by the daily problems. Standing alone after another rule failed, she felt deeply disappointed. Her methods weren’t working at all. Maybe she wasn’t suitable for being monitor. She couldn’t stand it like this any more. Mr. Johnson noticed Jane was in low spirits. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With a clear mind, Jane returned to her duties in a new way. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】     Mr. Johnson noticed Jane was in low spirits. He gently asked her to stay after class. Sensing her disappointment, he shared his own early struggles as a teacher. “True leadership,” he said softly, “isn’t about shouting orders. It’s about respect and teamwork. Try listening more and talking with your classmates.” Jane felt a little hope as Mr. Johnson encouraged her to find wiser ways to win their trust. His words were like a ray of light, brightening her confusion. She realized she needed to change her methods to bring everyone together.      With a clear mind, Jane returned to her duties in a new way. Instead of shouting out commands, she arranged time to chat gently with her classmates and listen to their ideas and suggestions. She also grouped the whole class for cleaning duties to ensure fairness. To encourage a quiet environment for self-study, she herself kept learning quietly, setting a good example. Feeling their voices heard and understood, more students joined the study groups willingly. Gradually, the noisy classroom became quieter. Hopefully, Jane came to realize it was respect and cooperation that could build up the strong team in her dream. 谈论:talk with/chat with 情绪类 ①温柔地:softly/gently ②有希望的:feel a little hope/hopefully 【点睛】[高分句型1]She realized she needed to change her methods to bring everyone together. Soccer is my life, played soccer, went to soccer games, and watched soccer on television with Mom and Dad. They even got me a magazine about soccer. We left very early in the morning, planning to be at our new home before classes began. If everything had gone perfectly, there would have been time for me to find my new classes, meet people, and even warm up before the tryouts. However, while we were driving to my new home, our car suddenly stopped working on the highway under the hot sun. We waited anxiously for two hours for a rescue, only to spend another two hours arranging for a rental car. The whole time, my heart was pounding with worry, afraid that I would miss the tryouts. Finally, we arrived at the new school. The moment I got out of the cat, I rushed towards the headmaster’s office to report, out of breath. “Oh, Tina I think you’re too late for the tryouts. Coach Turner said they’d end at 3 pm,” said Headmaster Morgan. She glanced up at the clock and shook her head, “They’re almost finished.” Feeling defeated, I bit my lower lip and held back tears. I know I’m late, but I’ve been playing soccer my whole life. “This means everything to me. Please give me a chance to show what I can do.” I stared at the headmaster and begged, holding onto a tiny hope. Headmaster Morgan looked hesitant at first, her brows furrowed. But seeing the determination in my eyes, she let out a sigh and picked up the phone. “Coach Turner? There’s a determined girl here.” My heart raced as Headmaster Morgan finally pointed outside. “Go to the field quickly!” “Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. Without hesitation, I sprang into action. The wind rushed past my ears, and I could only hear the intense beating of my own heart. Sweat dripped down my neck as three defenders charged. I passed right, moved left, and then shot with my left foot. Finally, the ball flew over the goalkeeper’s hands, and went into the net. The coach’s eyes widened in surprise. I held my breath, waiting for his decision. “Welcome to the team,” Coach Turner announced, and I couldn’t help breaking into a huge smile. I knew it was my love for soccer that kept me from giving up. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看到:see/catch sight of ②放弃:give up/quit ③展示:show/display 情绪类 ①犹豫的:hesitant/ halting ②惊讶:surprise/amazement 【点睛】[高分句型1] “This means everything to me. There were various activities to keep everyone busy: swimming, fishing and building sand castle on the beach. In the evenings, we gathered on the beach, having great fun. However, by the third day of our vacation, I noticed my sister, Jane, spent most of her time watching videos and looking through online shops indoors. She was so addicted to her cell phone! Over dinner, I told Jane we would hike to the top of the mountain across the lake the following morning. I stared at her, “Put your phone away and enjoy the scenery. It’s really amazing.” “Well,” Jane shrugged her shoulders and answered unwillingly, “there are some bargains tomorrow in several online shops, so I’ll not be available.” “Come out to enjoy the fresh air and many views. Hiking is fun!” (嘟囔),“I can not walk that far.” When I said it only took half an hour of steady walking to climb to the top, she nodded, “OK. I’ll go.” The next morning was perfect for a hike, with sunny clear skies and gentle winds. I got up early and packed some sandwiches and bottles of water into my backpack along with the camera. Jane came slowly downstairs, and announced in a very unenthusiastic voice, “I’m ready to go, Jim.” Anyway, we stepped out of our cottage and quite a different view unfolded before our eyes. Against the blue skies, a rough path wound to the top of the mountain across the lake with wild flowers and grass  on both sides. The sunlight brightened on the glassy surface of the lake. We began from the path. “I’m still wondering if this is a good idea, but if you could do it, I could also do.” She complained, frowning. Paragraph 1: She followed me, her mind wandering. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Reaching the top, Jane widened her eyes, shouting, “How awesome!”. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 She followed me, her mind wandering. Minutes later, we started to climb a steep slope. Jane sighed, dragging her legs behind me. I was surprised to find some rarely-seen trees and flowers, and took many photos but Jane showed no interest. She stopped and sat on a rock, thirsty, sweaty and bored. I handed her a bottle of water and we took a break. “I missed my phone,” she complained as we continued climbing. Though unhappy, she just climbed along with me. Reaching the top, Jane widened her eyes, shouting, “How awesome!” She looked around dreamily, her eyes twinkling with indescribably wild excitement. A refreshing breeze brushed the mountain top, miles of trees spread out below us and birds chirped between branches. We sat on a large rock and ate sandwiches, enjoying the sounds, the smells and the sunlight.“Anyone still wants her phone?” I joked. She rolled her eyes, laughing out loud. The next morning, Jane danced to my room, crying, “Let's hike around the lake today.” “Sure, get our backpack then,” I beamed, relieved and joyful. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拍照:take photos/take pictures ②抱怨:complain /make a complaint ③笑容满面:beam/be all smiles 情绪类 ①惊讶的: surprised /astonished/amazed ②不高兴的:unhappy/upset ③兴奋:excitement/thrill 【点睛】[高分句型1]Jane sighed, dragging her legs behind me. We were all excited about the adventure ahead, but little did we know what was in store for us. We arrived at the campsite in the late afternoon. The sun was setting, and the sky was painted with hues of orange and pink. We set up our tents and started a fire to cook our dinner. As we sat around the fire, we planned our activities for the next day. We decided to go on a hike to see the nearby waterfall. The next morning, we woke up early and set out on our hike. The trail was steep and narrow, but the scenery was breathtaking. We passed through the forests and crossed the streams. As we got higher, the air became colder and thinner. We had to stop frequently to catch our breath. After a few hours of hiking, we finally reached the waterfall. It was amazing. The water fell down from a great height, and the mist created a rainbow. We sat down to catch our breath and take in the beauty of the waterfall. But our adventure was far from over. As we were about to leave, we noticed dark clouds gathering overhead. It started raining heavily, and we realized that we had not brought any rain gear. We were completely soaked(湿透)and trembling in the cold. We decided to take shelter in a nearby cave until the rain stopped. The cave was dark and damp, but it gave us a brief relief from the rain. We sat there for what seemed like hours, waiting for the rain to stop. But it only got worse. The thunder was so loud that it echoed through the cave, and the lightning was so bright that it lit up the cave like daylight. We were scared and worried. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ That night, as we sat around the fire, we reflected on our adventure. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: We were scared and worried. We had no way of contacting anyone, and we had no idea how long the storm would last. We decided to wait it out and hoped for the best. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the rain stopped. The sun came out, and we could see the blue sky. We quickly packed up our things and started our way back. The road was slippery and muddy, but we made it back to our campsite safely. That night, as we sat around the fire, we reflected on our adventure. We realized that we had been through a lot, but we had also learned a valuable lesson. We had learned to be prepared for anything and to always expect the unexpected. Our camping trip turned out to be an unforgettable adventure. We had hiked to see a magnificent waterfall, taken shelter in a cave during a thunderstorm, and made it back to our campsite safely. We had faced our fears, which made us stronger and wiser. It was an experience that we will never forget. 词汇激活 行为类 ①决定:decide/make up one’s mind/determine ②意识到:realize/be aware ③面临:face/be faced with 情绪类 ①难忘的:unforgettable/memorable ②害怕:fear/fright/horror 【点睛】[高分句型1]. Aline sent me a screenshot (屏幕截图) of the ticket she was about to buy for me, from Saturday to Wednesday. I approved of the selection, she bought it, and I packed. The next day I headed to the airport, a little later than planned. When I got to the airport with only my carry-on bag, it was 35 minutes before the gate closed. I headed directly to the security checkpoint. The electronic machine marked a big fat red × and told me to see an airline official. I did what I was told to do and stood in line at the airline counter (柜台), while one of the only two ladies available left. My heart was racing as I kept looking at the clock. A man, loud and rude, arrived with an airport employee and cut ahead, shouting at the lady and taking 10 minutes of my precious time. By the time I arrived at the counter it was 8:02 and the gate closed at 8:05. The lady asked me what was wrong, and I told her. She then scanned (扫描) my ticket and told me the problem was that the gate had closed. I complained and told her I had arrived earlier. “Where were you then?” “In line, waiting for you.” She didn’t say anything else, except to help change my ticket. I didn’t panic; instead I went into action mode. I searched for other flights. Just one flight would leave in 35 minutes. I was already at the airport, so I bought the ticket. I then tried to check in: check-in closes 40 minutes before the flight. I took a deep breath, stopped running around, grabbed a taxi home, and bought my third ticket from Sunday to Sunday, extending my stay. I called Aline and we had a laugh about me missing the first flight in my life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In fact I did not miss my flight, but instead arrived a whole week early. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I called Aline and we had a laugh about me missing the first flight in my life. I have always been a super responsible perfectionist. I’d flown more than 100 times in the past year, and during most of the flights I traveled by myself. I had never missed a flight. Never. But I also know I need a good amount of travel humor to keep my nerves under control. After three tickets, I finally arrived at Barcelona and had an amazing time there with Aline. But what happened next was totally unexpected to me. In fact I did not miss my flight, but instead arrived a whole week early. I realized this fact when I got an email on Friday reminding me of checking in for my flight the next morning. Laughing so hard, I handed over the phone with my ticket on it to Aline so that she could check the date. After laughing for ten minutes straight, I immediately called my family to tell them about this funny travel story. Sometimes, we should just laugh at those unlucky travel accidents and be flexible during travel. 到达:arrive at / reach ②.意识到:realize / be aware of ③.独自旅行:travel by myself / travel alone 情绪类   ①. 大笑:laugh hard / laugh one’s head off 【点睛】[高分句型1]. Every day, I had to face the same battle — waking up breathless, and feeling terrible as I climbed the stairs to my classroom. How I wanted to become thin and healthy like the girls in gym class. Yet every attempt to exercise ended in failure. My gym shoes gathered dust in the closet as I returned to old habits of late-night snacks and sitting for a long time on the couch. One cold morning, as I returned home slowly after a disappointing jog where I’d hardly reached the park gate, I noticed an elderly woman practicing Tai Chi in the community garden. Her movements were wonderful and powerful even if she looked thin and weak. “Good morning!” I greeted her, trying to hide my own red cheeks and labored breathing. She stopped her routine and smiled, the wrinkles on her face looking like the pages of a well-read book. “Ah, I remember that look,” she said, pointing to my water bottle and gym shorts. “It is the same look of someone who has been fighting the same battle for too long.” I nodded with shame as she invited me to sit on the bench beside her. “Let me share a secret,” she said calmly. “Thirty years ago, I was diagnosed with a heart condition. The doctors said I needed to make a change or I’ll be at the risk of losing my life. I was still young and I wasn’t ready to die yet.” Her story went on with the rhythm of her breathing exercises. She spoke of starting small — ten minutes of walking daily, and then gradually increasing distance. “What kept you going?” I asked when she paused, my eyes fixed on her weathered hands that now moved very flexibly. “Habit,” she answered firmly. “Not perfection. Some days I walked through rain, others through snow. I didn’t measure success by the scale but by how many stairs I could climb without pause. And slowly, my body began to change — not just in size, but in strength and reaction.” Her words hit me as I watched her practice Tai Chi. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Last Saturday morning, I was running when I met the elderly woman again. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Her words hit me as I watched her practice Tai Chi. That evening I took out my dusty sneakers, not with grand ambitions, but with a quiet determination. I began where she suggested — ten minutes of walking daily, gradually incorporating short jogging intervals. I also replaced my sugary snacks with fruits kept conveniently in my backpack. Several months later, I noticed some small changes in myself. I got enough energy that could carry me through school days. What’s more, I had the confidence to complete the training tasks given by my teacher during PE class. Last Saturday morning, I was running when I met the elderly woman again. I stopped and greeted her. “You have become a completely different person. You look so healthy and dynamic. What’s really impressive is that you have a thin figure,” she said. I told her what I had been doing after she shared her experience. It was her words that did have an influence on me. Thanks to the elderly woman, I realized that the small choices we make every day really make a difference in our life. What’s more important, I have been offering the same advice to those in the same trouble. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿出运动鞋:take out sneakers/get sneakers out ②慢跑:jog/run at a slow pace/do light running ③完成训练任务:complete training tasks/finish training assignments/accomplish training jobs 情绪类 ①决心:with a determination/with a resolute will ②有信心:have confidence/feel confident 【点睛】【高分句型1】I got enough energy that could carry me through school days. The question posed on social media wasn’t difficult, at least for most people, but it was like being hit with a bucket of cold water for me, shocking me into a realization. “What do you do for fun?” I couldn’t come up with a single answer. Had my existence become so empty? Living alone, with an office in my home, work time had overflowed like lava (岩浆), consuming more and more of my days until there was no boundary safeguarding my personal time. It was all work, all the time. The worst part was that, at the end of the week, I could not successfully justify it. What had I accomplished? Ryder Carroll says, “Inevitably (必然地) we find ourselves ... spreading our focus so thin that nothing gets the attention it deserves. This is commonly referred to as ‘being busy. ’ Being busy, however, is not the same thing as being productive.” I was not productive, and I was not happy. However, I was endlessly busy. Something needed to change! I had no idea how to make it happen or where to begin. Until a group of cyclists entered the picture and made it clear that there was so much in the world yet to be discovered. They rode throughout the community and beyond the gates. Dressed in black Spandex riding shorts, brightly colored biking shirts, gloves and helmets, they appeared to be having a great time together. Pressing my forehead against the window screen, I looked longingly at them as they rode in pace lines of eight to twelve riders and traced their vanishing shadows. I knew how to ride a bike, but couldn’t imagine myself ever accomplishing the level of riding I saw. Yet the old saying whispered in my ears, “Every great journey starts with a single attempt.” The fate seemed to answer when I unfolded the community newspaper days later, in which they were inviting those interested in biking to join a beginner’s cycling group. Seeing the chance, I pushed myself to attend the organizational meeting. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As scheduled, twelve beginners, including me ventured out on our first eight-mile ride. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    Seeing the chance, I pushed myself to attend the organizational meeting. When I entered the room, I was a bit nervous. There were people of various ages chatting animatedly. I found a seat in a corner and tried to blend in. The group leader, a friendly middle-aged man, introduced the rules and plans for the beginner’s group. He assured us that it didn’t matter if we were slow or had little experience. As he spoke, I gradually relaxed. He also shared some of his own biking experiences, how biking had not only kept him fit but also broadened his horizons. Inspired by his words, I began to look forward to our first ride. As scheduled, twelve beginners, including me ventured out on our first eight-mile ride. At first, I was a bit wobbly on the bike and struggled to keep up with the group. But the others were very patient and encouraged me along the way. As we pedaled, the wind blew against my face, making me feel refreshed. We rode through beautiful countryside paths, past blooming flowers and green fields. I was amazed at the scenery I had never noticed before. When we finally reached the destination, I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I realized that this was exactly the kind of fun I had been missing, and I couldn’t wait for our next biking adventure. 词汇激活 行为类 ①发现:find/discover ②尝试做某事:try to do sth/attempt to do sth ③意识到:realize/be aware of ④跟上:keep up with/catch up with 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②对……感到惊讶:be amazed at/be surprised at 【点睛】[高分句型1]He assured us that it didn’t matter if we were slow or had little experience.(运用了that引导宾语从句,if引导条件状语从句) [高分句型2]When we finally reached the destination, I felt a great sense of accomplishment.(运用了when引导时间状语从句) 12. In 2010, I experienced multiple life-changing setbacks within a short period of time. My marriage ended after seventeen years, I got laid off, a dear friend died, and my teenage son was out of my hands. My physical and emotional health suffered as I attempted to keep my mind straight in overcoming pain and uncertainty. So, in 2013, I decided to do something every year that I’d never done before. Life is a race and “Just Keep Going” became my motto (格言). I made a decision to LIVE! I started walking in 2013, completed my first 5K in 2014, finished my first half marathon in 2015, and blew my own mind when I conquered a full 26. 2-mile marathon in 2016. This was in addition to writing a second children’s book that was featured on FOX 5 news. Life was great for a while. Then my dad lost his battle with cancer in 2017. This loss shook me in a way that was far more painful than my combined experiences in 2010. I went through my sorrow but I wasn’t defeated by it. Just Keep Going. In August 2017, I decided to sign up for a triathlon, in which I had to compete in three different sports — swimming, cycling and running. I started pre-training in February 2018. I had focused on preparing for the swim portion of the event more than biking and running. My anxiety eased up when I saw my coach Lloyd Henry and teammates Kandis Gibson and Maxwell P. Blakeney. I stepped into the water with my wave and two minutes later, we were off. I was talking in my head the entire time, reminding myself to see the buoy (浮标) so I’d know what direction to swim. When I raised my head to sight, I couldn’t see because of the fog. Just Keep Going. When I finally made it out of the water, I discovered I was the last person to exit the lake. Oh well, I finished without quitting and getting pulled. It was time to cycle no matter how tired I was from swimming. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After I survived the swim and the hilly bike ride, running would be easy for me. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    It was time to cycle no matter how tired I was from swimming. Just Keep Going. My coach helped settle my nerves once my feet touched land. He walked me up the stairs near transition so I could switch into my cycling clothes. When I arrived at the transition area, I saw that my bike was the only one there... out of 500. I silenced my thoughts and repeated, Just Keep Going. I took off and heard the volunteer say on the radio, “The last bike is now out of transition.” I was too determined to be embarrassed! I told myself never to give up. After I survived the swim and the hilly bike ride, running would be easy for me. As I had run a lot and I had run several marathons, I was confident that I would easily complete the last part of the triathlon. My goal is not to win, but to finish. So I just tried my best and told myself to Just Keep Going. I ran at the most comfortable pace. I turned the corner and saw the finish line. A rush of success came over me. I thought I could do it and I did! I swam, I biked, I ran. “Look at me, Daddy. I’m a triathlete!” 转换:switch/shift ②.使安静:silence/quiet ③.出发:take off/set off 情绪类 ①.疲惫的:tired/exhausted/fatigued ②.紧张的:nervous/tense/anxious 【点睛】【高分句型1】 It was time to cycle no matter how tired I was from swimming. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. “Daddy! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. Two months later, there came a match between Liang Li’s class and another class team. As the match got started, Liang Li ran towards the ball with determination. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Later that afternoon, Liang Li sat with his teammates under a tree, laughing and sharing snacks. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 6. My family just moved here from St. Louis. It was my first day at a new high school and the very day of soccer tryouts (选拔赛). All of a sudden, I saw the latest soccer magazine in my backpack. At that moment, my favorite words from the magazine rang in my head good player never gives up, even when the game seems lost.” “I’m so sorry, but our car broke down,” I explained to the headmaster. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Three minutes,” Coach Turner said, rolling a soccer ball toward me. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 7. This past summer, my family went on our annual vacation in a cottage on a lake. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8. Last summer, my friends and I went on a camping trip in the mountains. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 9. Last summer vacation, I decided to visit my best friend in Barcelona. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 10. Three years ago, I was annoyed with my weight. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 11. I was stumped. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 12. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
