18. What do young people often think of being 40 years old?
A. The relaxing life lies ahead.
B. People are the wisest at that time.
C. Life is getting more challenging from then on.
19. Where does Yoon come from?
A. Korea. B. Japan. C. China.
20. How old was Yoon when she started to prepare for the marathon?
A. 45. B. 63. C. 65.
C 19. A 20. B
W: Young people often think old age sets in at about 40. They call it being “over the hill”, meaning life declines after that. Some people choose to grow wiser from their experiences. Some people think that being young means being healthier and stronger. But many older people find ways to become more physically fit than ever. I met a woman who believed her age shouldn’t prevent her from achieving those things that she had never done before. Originally from Korea, Yoon had lived in Japan for many years. Even in those relatively healthy societies, though, she wasn’t as fit as she later became. After moving to Hong Kong, China and gaining weight because of her inactive lifestyle, Yoon decided to start running. At 65, she finished a marathon. It had only taken her 2 years to prepare for the long race! Not only was this woman in great physical condition, she also looked like she was 45. When I asked Yoon for her secret, she told me that the long path that she runs trains both her body and her mind.

Airports are places where bored passengers often kill time eating rubbish food they don’t want. Right? Wrong. Many of today’s airports around the world provide great entertainment, meals and shopping, with so much on offer that you almost miss your flight.
Changi Airport, Singapore

Seoul Airport, known officially as Incheon International Airport, is the largest and the primary airport serving Seoul, the capital of South Korea. A five-minute free shuttle bus ride will take you to the SKY 72 Golf Club, with three courses and a driving range.
Munich Airport, Germany
Explore relaxing travelling and new destinations from Munich, especially during the vacation season. It can get crowded at Munich Airport. For kids, there’s Kinderland, a fun paradise with a big “adventure plane”, films, games, arts and a waiting room for their weary parents to relax in.
Dubai Airport, UAE

Many of today’s airports around the world provide great entertainment, meals and shopping, with so much on offer that you almost miss your flight.(机场是无聊的乘客常常靠吃一些并不想吃的垃圾食品来消磨时间的地方。 故选A。

Last summer, I went to France for a holiday. I was so excited but also a little nervous because my French was not good.
One hot afternoon, after exploring the city, I felt really tired. I wanted to tell my French friend, Claire, “I am a little tired.” I carefully said the words I’d learned: “Je suis un pue fatigue.”
But Claire burst out laughing. My face felt hot. What had I done wrong? Claire explained, “In French, there are words that sound similar but have very different meanings. ‘peu’ means ‘a little,’ but if you pronounce it differently, it can sound like ‘pue’, which means ‘stinks’ — like something smells bad. So, instead of saying you needed a rest, it sounded like you were saying you smelled bad and were tired”
This awkward (尴尬的) moment was a real eye-opener for me. It made me realize just how daunting pronunciation can be in a foreign language. Even small differences in pronunciation can completely change the meaning of what you’re trying to say. The same is true in English, for example, “ship” (a large boat) and “sheep” (a woolly animal) sound very similar, but they mean totally different things.
Now, I pay extra attention to how words sound and what they mean. And if I mix them up again? I’ll just laugh along. After all, laughing is part of learning — even if it’s a bit stinky sometimes.
24. Why was the author nervous about his holiday in France?
A. He was poor at French. B. He never went abroad.
C. He had no friends there. D. He was in short of money.
25. What awkward moment did the author meet?
A. He got a wrong person. B. He made a pronunciation mistake.
C. He was tricked by the locals. D. He spelt a word incorrectly.
26. What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Easy. B. Natural. C. Difficult. D. Clear.
27. How did the author’s experience in France affect him?
A. He smelled bad and was tired.
B. He hated learning foreign languages.
C. He no longer considered Claire as a friend.
D. He became open to mistakes in language learning.
A 25. B 26. C 27. D

根据第一段中“I was so excited but also a little nervous because my French was not good.(我很兴奋,但也有点紧张,因为我的法语不好。)” 故选A。
根据第三段中“Claire explained, “In French, there are words that sound similar but have very different meanings. ‘peu’ means ‘a little,’ but if you pronounce it differently, it can sound like ‘pue’, which means ‘stinks’ — like something smells bad.(Claire解释说:“在法语中,有些词发音相似,但意思却大不相同。‘peu’的意思是‘一点点’,但如果你发音不同,听起来就像‘pue’,意思是‘发臭’——就像什么东西闻起来很臭。)”可知,作者遇到的尴尬时刻是发音错误。故选B。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中“This awkward (尴尬的) moment was a real eye-open er for me. It made me realize just how daunting pronunciation can be in a foreign language. Even small differences in pronunciation can completely change the meaning of what you’re trying to say.(这个尴尬的时刻让我大开眼界。它让我意识到在外语中发音是多么daunting。即使发音上的微小差异也会完全改变你想说的意思。)”可知,发音可能是困难的。因此,daunting最可能的意思是“困难的”。故选C。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Now, I pay extra attention to how words sound and what they mean. And if I mix them up again? I’ll just laugh along. After all, laughing is part of learning — even if it’s a bit stinky sometimes.(现在,我特别注意单词的发音和意思。如果我再把它们混在一起呢?我会一起笑的。毕竟,笑是学习的一部分——即使有时有点臭。)”可知,作者在法国的经历使他变得对语言学习中的错误持开放态度。故选D。
C
Ehrman Crest Elementary and Middle School, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, celebrated its big opening in August, 2022. Three months later, Time magazine put the school on its yearly list of best inventions.
The honor focused on Ehrman Crest’s special building style. There are many contents about math and science on the floors and walls. Some classrooms connect to the outdoors and there’s even a rooftop (屋顶) garden. “We didn’t set out to be a best invention,” director Tracy Vitale says. “We just wanted to take the place of an 84-year-old building. That building needed too much work to be saved. So it had to start fresh. And this is our chance to build the school of the future.”
Kids played a key role in creating Ehrman Crest. After adults decided on the basics, like the budget (预算) and the number of classrooms needed, the building experts met with stakeholder (股东) groups. One of these groups was made up of students. Michael Corb, a worker at the building company CannonDesign, says, “We asked the kids, ‘What do you imagine a new school should be like?’ Their perspective on how the school should look and feel was obviously important.”
Kids were given many special materials, such as photos and colored cards. “They picked up these materials and created their own storyboards, which were then put on the walls and doors,” Corb says. The kids preferred wood, because it felt natural, and calming colors, such as blues and greens. They made clear that the environment should be fun. As a result, the school is as exciting as a children’s museum. There are traditional classrooms, but there are also places for exploring ideas and working together. “Every space in this building is for learning,” Corb adds.
Matthew Palano, a sixth grader at Ehrman Crest, is a big fan of the playground. “It’s huge!” he says. He likes the furniture (家具) too. “The desks are really cool. They’re shaped like fish!” Teacher Ryan Bonicky says, “It feels special to walk into the school every day. There’s a lot of excitement here. The students are truly attracted to learning.”
28. What made Ehrman Crest receive the honor?
A. Its long history. B. Its unusual design.
C. Its teaching methods. D. Its connection with technology.
29. Which can replace the underlined word “perspective” in paragraph 3?
A. Focus. B. Knowledge. C. Responsibility. D. Opinion.
30. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A. Kids’ creativity was encouraged. B. The school turned into a museum.
C. Kids wanted to protect the environment. D. The school was designed mainly for fun.
31. What is Matthew and Ryan’s attitude towards the new school?
A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Objective.
B 29. D 30. A 31. C
根据第二段“The honor focused on Ehrman Crest’s special building style. There are many contents about math and science on the floors and walls. Some classrooms connect to the outdoors and there’s even a rooftop (屋顶) garden.(这一荣誉在于埃尔曼克雷斯特学校独特的建筑风格。其楼内和墙面布满了有关数学和科学的内容。有些教室还与户外相连,甚至还有一个屋顶花园)”可知,该学校的荣誉源于其特殊的建筑设计。故选B项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词上文“We asked the kids, ‘What do you imagine a new school should be like?’(我们问孩子们,‘你们想象中的新学校应该是什么样的?”)”
根据第四段中“Kids were given many special materials, such as photos and colored cards.(孩子们得到了许多特殊的材料,如照片和彩色卡片)”、“They picked up these materials and created their own storyboards, which were then put on the walls and doors(他们收集了这些材料,并自行设计了故事板,随后将这些故事板张贴在了墙壁和门上)”、和“The kids preferred wood, because it felt natural, and calming colors, such as blues and greens. They made clear that the environment should be fun. (孩子们更喜欢木头,因为它感觉自然,以及蓝色和绿色等令人平静的颜色。他们明确表示,环境应该是有趣的)”可知,学生参与设计并发挥创意,说明其创造力被充分鼓励。故选A项。
根据最后一段中““It’s huge!” he says. He likes the furniture (家具) too. “The desks are really cool. They’re shaped like fish!” Teacher Ryan Bonicky says, “It feels special to walk into the school every day. There’s a lot of excitement here. The students are truly attracted to learning.”(“太大了!”他说道。他还很喜欢这里的家具。“这些书桌真的很酷。它们的形状像鱼!”瑞安·博尼基老师说,“每天走进这所学校都让人感觉很特别。这里充满了活力。学生们真的对学习充满热情。”)”可知,Matthew称赞学校的空间和家具,Ryan指出这样的校园让学生真正热爱学习,因此两人均是积极态度。故选C项。
D
Life is always changing — sometimes great, other times worrying and stressful. There are lots of benefits in accepting the unexpected and simple things you can do to make it easier to deal with life changes.
There can be lots of new things that happen in your life. Some can be really positive things that you make happen yourself, like joining a club or making a new friend. However, some changes you face could make you feel worried or uncertain. They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or family life changing because of parents separating. They can be smaller ones like new schedules at home due to parents’ or carers’ working habits or a teacher you don’t know taking over your class. All of these things can bring up some pretty big feelings — and that’s OK.
Why can it be hard to deal with? Change can be difficult because it often brings feelings of uncertainty. Emily Hanlon is a child psychologist (someone who studies how children think, feel and behave) who explains, “Our brains like habits and usual actions. They help us feel safe. When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like entering a new place. It is like going on a surprise adventure with no map. This can make us feel nervous or afraid because we don’t know what will come next.” Change can also be hard if you don’t feel quite ready for it, or that you are not in control of whatever is happening.
Can change be a good thing? Yes — life would be very boring if everything stayed the same all the time. Trying new things and making changes helps you find what you like and dislike. For example, if you didn’t taste that new kind of ice cream, how would you know you love it? It also helps you grow and learn skills. Hanlon says, “While change can feel frightening, it often brings new adventures, new friends, and new special abilities — well, maybe not great strengths, but surely the abilities to get back confidence and grow stronger.”
32. Which of the following is a small life change that may disturb you?
A. A friend going away. B. You moving to a new school.
C. Your parents divorcing. D. A new teacher taking over your class.
33. According to Emily Hanlon, a “surprise adventure with no map” is used ______.
A. to suggest ways to avoid changes B. to compare changes to surprise adventures
C. to explain why change feels difficult D. to describe how habits make us safe
34. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Change helps you become better. B. Change makes life feel boring and stressful.
C. Change makes life full of new adventures. D. Change helps you avoid new experiences.
35. Which of the following best matches the writer’s opinion?
A. A child practices erhu daily and wins the competition.
B. A teenager tries a new hobby and loves it.
C. A student worries about making new friends.
D. A kid refuses to accept his step-father.
D 33. C 34. A 35. B
根据第二段中“They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or family life changing because of parents separating. They can be smaller ones like new schedules at home due to parents’ or carers’ working habits or a teacher you don’t know taking over your class. (它们可能是大事,比如转校、朋友离开或由于父母分居而改变家庭生活。它们可以是较小的,比如由于父母或照顾者的工作习惯而导致的家庭新时间表,或者你不认识的老师接管了你的班级。)”可知,文中明确区分大小变化,小变化包括“因父母工作习惯导致的家庭新日程,或不认识的老师接手你的班级”,D 项“一位新老师接管了你的班级”符合小变化的描述。故选D项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Emily Hanlon is a child psychologist (someone who studies how children think, feel and behave) who explains, “Our brains like habits and usual actions.
根据最后一段“Can change be a good thing? Yes — life would be very boring if everything stayed the same all the time. Trying new things and making changes helps you find what you like and dislike. For example, if you didn’t taste that new kind of ice cream, how would you know you love it? It also helps you grow and learn skills. Hanlon says, “While change can feel frightening, it often brings new adventures, new friends, and new special abilities — well, maybe not great strengths, but surely the abilities to get back confidence and grow stronger.” 故选A项。
根据文章大意尤其是第一段“Life is always changing — sometimes great, other times worrying and stressful. There are lots of benefits in accepting the unexpected and simple things you can do to make it easier to deal with life changes. (生活总是在变化——有时很棒,有时又令人担忧和紧张。接受意想不到的和简单的事情会让你更容易应对生活的变化,这对你有很多好处。)”可知,作者认为变化有好处,能让人尝试新事物、发现喜好并成长。由此可推知,B项“青少年尝试新爱好并喜欢上它”正是变化带来积极结果的体现,符合作者观点。故选B项。

It was a bright and sunny morning at Greenfield High School, and the annual sports day was in full swing. The atmosphere was electric, with students cheering, banners waving, and the smell of popcorn filling the air. But all eyes were on the final event of the day — the 400-meter race.
Among the participants was Mia, a quiet but determined girl from Class 10B. Mia wasn’t the fastest runner in school, nor was she the most athletic. In fact, she only joined the track team a few months ago after her best friend, Emma, convinced her to give it a try. “You’ve got heart, Mia,” Emma had said. “That’s all you need.”
As Mia stood at the starting line, her heart pounded. She glanced at her competitors — tall, confident, and experienced runners who had won countless medals. Mia tightened her shoelaces and took a deep breath. She reminded herself of the hours she had spent training, the early mornings, and the blisters (水疱) on her feet. She wasn’t here to win; she was here to prove to herself that she could finish the race.
The starting gun fired, and the runners shot off like arrows. Mia started strong but soon found herself lagging behind. By the halfway mark, she was in last place. Mia felt as if a heavy weight had settled on her shoulders. She couldn’t bring herself to look at the crowd. As cheers began to fade, doubt crept into her mind. “Maybe I should just stop, No one will notice.” she thought.

But then, she heard a familiar voice, “Go, Mia! You can do it!” It was Emma. Mia turned her head slightly and saw her best friend waving a big banner enthusiastically. The encouragement was like a spark that reignited the fire in her heart. She clenched her fists and summoned up all her remaining strength. Ignoring the pain in her legs and the shortness of breath, she quickened her pace. With every step, she felt more determined.
With just 50 meters to go, she could barely breathe. Her legs were heavy, but her mind was clear. She was so close to the finish line. The image of her family and friends waiting for her at the end spurred her on. Summoning every bit of strength left in her body, she dashed forward. As she crossed the finish line, the crowd erupted in cheers. Mia was tired but overjoyed. She had achieved what she set out to do, and that was more precious than any medal.

I met a woman who believed her age shouldn't prevent her from achieving those things that he had never done before. Originally from korea, yun had lived in japan for many years. Even in those relatively healthy societies, though, SHE wasn't as fit as he later became. After moving to hong kong, china and gaining weight because of her inactive lifestyle, you decided to start running at sixty five, SHE finished a marathon. IT had only taken her two years to prepare for the long race. Not only was this woman in great physical condition, SHE also looked like he was forty five. When I asked you on for her secret, he told me that the long path that he runs trains both her body and her mind. Young people often think old age sets in at about forty. The Interesting Airports Around the World
Airports are places where bored passengers often kill time eating rubbish food they don’t want. Right? Wrong. Many of today’s airports around the world provide great entertainment, meals and shopping, with so much on offer that you almost miss your flight.
Changi Airport, Singapore
It’s the only one in the world with its own butterfly garden, and has its own indoor playground and video game area. If you have a long wait, you could always watch the latest movie at the free cinema, or head to sunflower gardens.
Incheon Airport, Seoul, South Korea
Dubai Airport is owned and operated by the Dubai Airports Company. This airport serves as a home to two of the largest international airlines in the world, Emirates and Flydubai. It has its own health club with a gym and swimming pool, or you can wander in a wonderful garden.

A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Objective.
