His companion (同伴) in the lifeboat is an enormous tiger. It was written by the Canadian author Yann Martel, and has sold seven million copies worldwide. At the start of the book, we learn about Pi's childhood in India. His father is a zookeeper and the family live in a house in the zoo. Pi and his brother help their father in the zoo and learn to look after the animals. When Pi is sixteen, his family decide to close the zoo and move to Canada. They sell some of the animals to zoos in North America and the family take the animals with them on a ship to Canada. On the way, there is a terrible storm and the ship sinks. Sadly, Pi's family and the ship's sailors die in the storm. Pi finds himself in a lifeboat with a hyena, zebra, orangutan and a tiger. When he sees the animals, Pi is scared and he jumps into the ocean. Then he remembers there are sharks in the ocean and he climbs back into the lifeboat. One by one, the animals in the lifeboat kill and eat each other, till only Pi and the tiger are left alive. Luckily for Pi, there is some food and water on the lifeboat, but he soon needs to start catching fish. He feeds the fish to the tiger to stop it killing and eating him. He also uses a whistle and his knowledge of animals from the zoo to control the tiger. Pi and the tiger spend 227 days in the lifeboat. They live through terrible storms and are burnt by the Pacific sun. They are often hungry and ill. Sometimes, Pi is happy and hopeful, but sometimes he feels sad and lonely. C The Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, is introducing a “teenage mode” that will limit the amount of time to 40 minutes a day for children under the age of 14 who spend on the short-form video app. It will also be unavailable to those users between 10 p. m. and 6 a. m. The measures will apply to all Douyin users under the age of 14 who have registered using their real names, its company announced in a statement on Saturday. The company also encourages parents to help their children use real names, or they can set the “teenage mode”. The app will also introduce new content, ranging from science experiments and museums to art exhibition and natural scenery, to inspire younger teens. Experts remark that limiting the usage of Douyin is an active measure which is of great benefit to minors The decision will push other Internet platforms with short videos to consider setting similar limits. Self-management and voluntary change of the platforms can make them more socially responsible. Douyin had at least 490 million users in November 2020, according to a media research firm. The Chinese government control the large amount of time minors spend on their services. In June, China changed the Minor Protection Law, which requires Internet service providers —including social media apps—to “set up corresponding (相关的) functions such as time management, content restriction and consumption limits for minors.” Last month, China prevented online gamers under the age of 18 from playing on weekdays and limited their play to just three hours most weekends. A series of measures have been taken to further ensure the safety of businesses focused on the next generation, from a heavy hit on after-school classes to rules for online gaming and videos. 8. What will the company of Douyin do with its teenage mode? A. Limit the time for children to use Douyin. B. Encourage parents to use their real names. C. Allow children to use Douyin after 10 p. m. D. Attract more children to watch online videos. 9. Which opinion will the experts agree with probably? A. Limiting usage of Douyin is of little significance. B The measures won’t have effects on other platforms. C. The self-management of the Internet platforms is enough. D. The Internet platforms should take more responsibilities. 10. What can we infer about tech companies from paragraph 4? A. They wanted to take the place of Douyin. B. Their business should follow the new law. C. They refused to set up corresponding function. D. Their influence was discovered by media research firms. 11. What’s the main purpose of the government’s measures? A. To encourage online games. B. To protect the next generation. C. To develop advanced technology. D. To reduce the kids’ learning pressure. D It’s too early to name any activity The Sport of 2025, but if you ask me to do it today, I would give the title to Hyrox, which is an individual (个人) but interactive activity. Fitness fans run eight kilometers and stop after each to do exercises such as sled pushes or burpees. The faster you complete the course, the higher your score is in the Hyrox worldwide records. Many surveys show that people are exercising more now than in the past years. It's individual fitness goals that are driving the rise. I spent the first half of my 29-year-old life as a player and the second as a long-distance athlete. I long for the common goal of team sports, but I also value the responsibility and clear results that come from working toward my own running objectives. So it’s strange to me that people prefer individual fitness goals to team sports. One common explanation is that organized sports haven’t made the comeback since the pandemic (疫惰) a few years ago. When people learned to exercise with less money, machinery, space and time, they kept individual activities rather than followed an organization. Meanwhile, there are now fitness apps for users to make workouts based on their individual health conditions. The rise of wearables has also kept some of us in our own exercise habits. However, an obvious problem for individual sports is loneliness. Joining in team sports is a tested way to ease it, which improves our ability to interact and form meaningful relationships. Hyrox is a combined activity: an individual sport that we do with others. Each competition follows the same scoring method, which allows individuals to compare their results with others around the world. It's the type that has led the fitness world. And according to Guy Faulkner, a professor (教授) at the University of British Columbia, if it gets people out of the door, then it’s a good one. “The most effective form of sport,” he said, “is the form you will keep on.” 12. What is the key feature of Hyrox? A. It eases physical challenges. B. It is organized to find sports partners. C. It requires teamwork and shared plans. D. It is self-directed but graded with others 13. What does the underlined word “made the comeback” probably mean in paragraph 3? A. Become less popular. B. Return to a previous popular state. C. Changed its original form. D. Stopped developing completely. 14. What does Guy Faulkner consider the most effective sport? A. Sport that one does continually. B. Sport that includes more people. C. Sport that requires the least effort. D. Sport that provides the quickest results. 15. What’s the best title of this passage? A. Team Sports: The Only Path to Fitness B. Hyrox: A New Individual-interactive Fitness Trend C. Loneliness in Individual Sports: A Solved Problem D. The Decline of Organized Sports after Pandemic Road Trip Planning There are so many things to consider when planning a road trip, especially if you want to make it a great one. Girls could do many things like hopscotch, jump rope, tetherball, and dodgeball, except high jumping. Only boys could do high jumping. That’s what I wanted to do — high jumping. So I went to the coach. “Girls don’t do high jumping,” the coach said. “Girls have all these other things they can do.” He excitedly described how much fun it would be. I’d been high jumping in the backyard with my five brothers for years. Although I am a girl, I did high jumping pretty well. My brothers could rarely beat me. Whenever my back crossed the bar, that feeling is extremely wonderful. I went home and told my mother what the coach had said. My mother, a small, thin woman only four feet eleven inches tall, said, “I think we should go visit him.” “Visit who?” I asked confusedly. “The headmaster.” “Visit the headmaster?” I was terrified. Would I get in trouble? Would my mother and I be crossing boundaries we shouldn’t cross? My mom and I went to Mr. White’s office. “Linda wants to do the high jump,” my mother said. “Mrs. Martinez, you don’t understand. This is the tradition of our Annual Sports Day,” he said. “But Mr. White, I don’t know where it says that girls cannot do this.” The headmaster couldn’t find any rules that said girls couldn’t do the high jump. “I have to think about this,” he said at last. When we got home, my mom told me something I would always remember: this wasn’t just about me. “Maybe other girls want to do this, too,” she said. My mother waited a week, but still didn’t get the headmaster’s reply. So she walked over to the school again. “Mr. White, please. I ask you this not for me and not for Linda, but let’s just see how it works.” In the end, Mr. White agreed. I stood on the field of the high jumping competition. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To my surprise, some of the cheers I got were from boys! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 文山市第一中学高一年级10月月考 英语试卷 本试卷共8页,共67题,全卷满分150分,考试用时120分钟。 1. B. The measures won’t have effects on other platforms. 8. A 9. D 10. B 11. A Sport that one does continually. The Decline of Organized Sports after Pandemic 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第一段中“It’s too early to name any activity The Sport of 2025, but if you ask me to do it today, I would give the title to Hyrox, which is an individual but interactive activity.(现在给任何一项活动冠以2025年体育运动的称号还为时过早,但如果你今天让我这么做,我会把这个称号给Hyrox,这是一项个人但互动的活动)”以及第四段中“Hyrox is a combined activity: an individual sport that we do with others. Each competition follows the same scoring method, which allows individuals to compare their results with others around the world.(Hyrox是一项综合活动:一项我们与他人一起进行的个人运动。每场比赛都遵循相同的评分方法,个人可以与世界各地的其他人比较自己的成绩)”可知,Hyrox的关键特征是自我指导但是可以与他人一起评分。故选D。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“One common explanation is that organized sports haven’t made the comeback since the pandemic a few years ago. When people learned to exercise with less money, machinery, space and time, they kept individual activities rather than followed an organization.(一种常见的解释是,自几年前疫情爆发以来,有组织的运动还没有made the comeback。当人们学会用更少的钱、器械,场地和时间来锻炼时,他们坚持个人活动,而不是跟随一个组织)”可知,疫情后人们选择个人活动而不是跟随组织,说明有组织的运动没有恢复到以前受欢迎的状态,所以“made the comeback”意思是“恢复到以前受欢迎的状态”。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“And according to Guy Faulkner, a professor at the University of British Columbia, if it gets people out of the door, then it’s a good one. “The most effective form of sport,” he said, “is the form you will keep on.”(根据英属哥伦比亚大学教授盖伊·福克纳的说法,如果它能让人们走出家门,那就是一项好的运动。他说:“最有效的运动形式是你能坚持下去的。”)”可知,盖伊·福克纳认为最有效的运动是一个人持续进行的运动。故选A。 根据第一段中“It’s too early to name any activity The Sport of 2025, but if you ask me to do it today, I would give the title to Hyrox, which is an individual but interactive activity.(现在给任何一项活动冠以2025年体育运动的称号还为时过早,但如果你今天让我这么做,我会把这个称号给Hyrox,这是一项个人但互动的活动)”结合全文可知,本文主要介绍了Hyrox这项个人但互动的运动,以及其受欢迎的原因和特点等。 Road Trip Planning There are so many things to consider when planning a road trip, especially if you want to make it a great one. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 I stood on the field of the high jumping competition. I was the only girl who joined in high jumping, which made me feel a little embarrassed. But when I saw the bar I had been longing for, all the awkwardness disappeared. I was arranged the last to jump. I saw some boys failed, while some jumped over at a good height, but not higher than my ever record. Finally, it was my turn. I took a deep breath, ran up, took off, and crossed over! As it turned out, I won the high-jumping contest. To my surprise, some of the cheers I got were from boys! The boys who had laughed at me for participating in high jumping were now cheering for me. The girls ran over and hugged me. I instantly became the center of attention on the entire field of competition. The headmaster person- ally presented me with an award. More importantly, every year in the future, the school would allow girls to participate in high jumping competitions. My mother was right--it wasn’t about me. It was about making people think about what girls could do. I jumped not only over the bar, but also over the boundary of prejudice. 词汇激活 行为类 ①参加:join in/ take part in ②消失:disappear/ vanish ③安排:arrange/ schedule 情绪类 ①尴尬的:embarrassed/ awkward ②渴望:long for/ desire 【点睛】【高分句型1】I was the only girl who attended high jumping, which made me feel a little embarrassed.
