Are e-sports real sport?
E-sports, or electronic sports, are on the rise in China. On April 9, the National Bureau of Statistics of China listed e-sports as official sports. Do you like e-sports and do you agree that they should be called sports?
参与学校:四川省成都树德中学(光华校区)
组织学生:邓子萌
Yes
Deng Zimeng, 15:
I like e-sports. They’re a magical world in which people compete using electronic equipment. As with any other sports event, teamwork is a must in e-sports. And e-sports require athletes to practice for many years. Logical (逻辑的) thinking and quick reactions are other demands of e-sports. And e-sports suggest a completely different future for teenagers. For all of these reasons, e-sports are here to stay.
Tan Haitao, 16:
I totally agree with this idea. E-Sports are a new interest for teenagers in modern life. They also require hard work and competitiveness. They are as difficult as traditional sports, such as running and swimming, and sometimes need even more effort. So why shouldn’t they be called proper sports events?
No
Liang Jinrui, 16:
In my opinion, studying should be the most important thing for teenagers. E-sports allow teenagers to dream of becoming famous. Teenagers who like to play computer games can think of them as a career path and an excuse not to study hard. But to become a professional e-sports player will need hard work.
Li Han, 17
I don’t approve of e-sports becoming official. First, as e-sports become more popular among students, I think that some students will use them as an excuse for spending all their time on the internet. Second, the development of e-sports may put the public off traditional sporting events, which may encourage people to neglect (忽略) the physical health of children.
Question: what is your opinion? Do you think e-sports can be called real sport?
