Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage — but a new analysis shows a different result.
“We found there may be no short-term advantages with using blue-light filtering spectacle lenses to reduce visual fatigue associated with computer use, compared to non-blue-light filtering lenses,” said Laura Downie. “It is also currently unclear whether these lenses affect vision quality or sleep-related outcomes, and no conclusions could be drawn about any potential effects on retinal (视网膜的) health in the longer term. People should be aware of these findings when deciding whether to purchase these spectacles.”
The studies they reviewed ranged in size and length with a span of as few as five to as many as 156 participants assessed over different periods, from less than one day to five weeks. The authors said more research with longer follow-ups in more diverse populations are needed to better assess any potential effects.
Blue light, like that emanating from (从……发出) computer screens and smartphones, does stimulate the eyes, something that can cause sleeping problems. Vision issues including eye strain can lead to headaches, frontal headaches, pain around the eyes and pain behind the eyes, as well as dry eyes and related problems.
Earlier this year, Dr Robert Johnson said, “I would have patients coming in saying they just ordered blue-blocking glasses from the Internet for their daughter and what was my opinion. This blue-blocking situation has been bogus basically from the get-go... It’s one of the absurdities that come from advertising.”
Instead of shelling out money for special shades, however, experts advise taking screen breaks. They recommend small breaks away from screens every 20 minutes. During that break, look into the distance at an object at least 20 feet away or farther, for 20 seconds or more. Also shut your eyes for 20 seconds during the break. Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.”
12. What can we infer from Laura Downie’s words about the blue light glasses?
A. It reduces visual fatigue greatly. B. It helps us get a good sleep at night.
C. It has no effect on our eye health. D. It relaxes our eyes for the time being.
13. What’s Dr Robert Johnson’s attitude toward using blue-light filtering spectacle leans?
A. Tolerant. B. Supportive. C. Disapproving. D. Neutral.
14. What is the core of the “20-20-20 rule”?
A. Resting your eyes every 20 seconds. B. Keeping your eyes closed for a minute.
C. Watching scenes at most 60 seconds. D. Making your eyes rest for a while.
15. What might be the best title for the text?
A. Blue light comes from a variety of sources.
B. Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses may not be useful.
C. Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses are popular.
D. Blue light is really good for your eyesight.

Undoubtedly, Mother Nature is always attractive to kids. In our childhood, how often did we turn a deaf ear to our parents’ advice? Very often! Thus, we landed ourselves in a situation where we greatly regretted our act of not having listened to the advice of the wise.
Such an unforgettable experience I had at the age of 7 gave me an invaluable lesson, after which I deeply understood why my gentle mother was repeating the boring suggestions and I would try to take her suggestions seriously.
In my childhood, I was so crazy about nature that even playing among the colorful flowers in our garden could make my day. Our house was next to the woods which had always stirred up(激起) great curiosity in me in wanting to find out what was within. Every time I saw fascinating butterflies dancing from the woods, my curiosity grew.
But my mother didn’t like me wandering off on my own and always ensured that I was within her sight. Even if she allowed me to explore the surrounding area on my own, it was only to be somewhere near the house. Being as curious as the cat, I always desired to explore the woods. It seemed as if my mother had understood my desire, so she had warmed me on lots of occasions never to enter the woods alone.
“Mom, can I go out and play in the garden?” I asked.
“Sure,” she would reply each time. “Kate, you can play in the garden but you must promise me one thing—only when I’m with you can you go into the woods. There are no cases of animal attacks on humans, but it’s still dangerous for a little kid like you. It’s too easy to get lost in the woods.”
“Sure, you’ve said that many times!” I answered without patience at her repeated reminders.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
However, curiosity got the better of me one morning.

The studies they reviewed ranged in size and length, with a span of as few as five to as many as 156 participants assessed over different periods, from less than one day to five weeks.
C 13. C 14. D 15. B

由文章第二段““We found there may be no short-term advantages with using blue-light filtering spectacle lenses to reduce visual fatigue associated with computer use, compared to non-blue-light filtering lenses,” said Laura Downie. (Laura Downie说:“我们发现,与非蓝光过滤镜片相比,使用蓝光过滤镜片在减少因使用电脑而引起的视觉疲劳方面可能没有短期优势。”)”可知,Laura Downie认为蓝光过滤眼镜在短期内对减少电脑使用引起的视觉疲劳没有明显的好处,即它对我们的眼睛健康没有影响。故选C。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。由文章第五段“This blue-blocking situation has been bogus basically from the get-go... It’s one of the absurdities that come from advertising. (这个防蓝光的情况基本上从一开始就是假的……这是广告中的一个荒谬之处。)”可知,Dr Robert Johnson对蓝光过滤镜片的态度是不赞同的,认为这种做法从一开始就存在误导。故选C。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第六段中“Johnson also goes by the “20-20-20 rule”. “For every 20 minutes, look away in excess of 20 feet for 20 seconds,” he said. “That will relax your focusing mechanism that will give your eyes a break and that will make you more comfortable.” (Johnson也遵循“20-20-20规则”。他说:“每20分钟,看超过20英尺的地方20秒,”“这将放松你的聚焦机制,给眼睛一个休息的机会,这会让你感觉更舒适。”)”可知,该规则的核心是为了让眼睛休息一会儿。故选D。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“Blue light glasses gained popularity over the past few years with the idea that they protect our eyes against screen usage — but a new analysis shows a different result. (在过去的几年里,蓝光眼镜越来越受欢迎,人们认为蓝光眼镜可以保护我们的眼睛不受屏幕的影响,但一项新的分析显示了不同的结果。)”可知,文主要讨论了蓝光过滤眼镜可能并不像之前认为的那样对保护视力有显著好处,尤其是基于最新的分析结果。选项B“Blue-light filtering spectacle lenses may not be useful (蓝光过滤眼镜镜片可能没有用)”最适合作为本文的标题。故选B。

The world of writing is changing. Things have moved very quickly from keyboards and predictive text. The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) means robots can now write human-quality text without having hands at all.
Recent improvements in speech-to-text software mean even human “writers” do not need to touch a keyboard, let alone a pen. And with help from AI, text can even be generated by decoders that read brain activity through non-invasive scanning. ____16____, without having to lift a finger. The word “writer” may come to mean something very different, as people compose text in multiple ways in an increasingly digital world.
However, learning to handwrite is still a key component of the literacy curriculum in primary schools. ____17____. But there are a number of important reasons why handwriting will still be taught in schools.
● It helps you remember
Handwriting has important cognitive benefits, including for memory. Research suggests traditional pen-and-paper notes are remembered better, due to the greater complexity of the handwriting process. ____18____ In many cases, students become better readers through practicing writing.
____19____
Handwriting does not need electricity, devices, batteries, software, subscriptions, a fast Internet connection, a keyboard, charging time or the many other things on which digital writing depends. It only needs a pen and paper and can be done anywhere. Sometimes handwriting is the easiest and best option.
●It is about thinking
Most importantly, learning to write and learning to think are closely connected. ____20____. They are developed and organized as they are composed. Thinking is too important to be outsourced to robots!
Teaching writing is about giving students a toolkit of multiple writing strategies. Handwriting will remain an important component of this toolkit for the foreseeable future.
A. It is very accessible
B. Ideas are formed as students write
C. It has become part of your daily routine
D. Writers of the future will be talkers and thinkers

F. Good handwriting can help you make a good first impression
G. Parents may be wondering whether learning to handwrite is worth the trouble

Even if she allowed me to explore the surrounding area on my own it was only to be somewhere near the house.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
However, curiosity got the better of me one morning.

“Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice.

However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. Ignoring my mother’s reminder, I slid into the forbidden world. How fascinating! Among various colorful flowers danced butterflies. With excitement, I chased after the graceful creatures, running deeper into the woods. Suddenly they flew over trees and disappeared. What’s worse, I got lost! I rushed around, crying for help, frightened and helpless, but in vain. I repeated the useless efforts until sunset. “If only I followed Mom’s reminder!” I curled up under a tree, in bitter regret and cried again.
“Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. “Mom! I’m here!” Wild with joy, I rushed towards where the voice came from. Behind a tree appeared my mother. She dashed up, hugged me tight and checked whether I got hurt. “I’m so sorry! I should have appreciated your suggestion!” I burst into tears. Wiping tears from my muddy face, she repeated the reminders, which weren’t boring any more, but wise and affectionate, and were implanted in my life forever.
However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. I summoned up my courage and decided to take a chance. Hardly had I entered the woods when I was totally attracted by the sight. The wandering clouds, the blooming flowers and the vigorous trees all kept me spellbound. At the sight of a beautiful butterfly, I tiptoed along the path, bent over, cupped my hands gently and danced with it down the track. Time flew and before I knew it, I was deep in the woods, unable to find the way out. With a feeling of horror totally holding me in its power, I squatted down under a tree, tears rolling down my cheeks.
“Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. Hearing my mom’s voice, I yelled in a quivering tone, rushed towards her direction and threw my arms around her. Noticing my misty eyes, she patted me on the shoulders and checked whether I got hurt. Choked with emotion, I whispered, “I am OK, Mom. I will never go into the woods without your company and permission.” Shooting me an approving look, she added, “Next time you want to come, keep me informed!” In the setting sun, we headed back and this time, I held my mom’s hand tightly.
