A
根据“be able to enjoy a virtual sunrise as the sun rises over the prehistoric stones!”
根据第二段中的“Like so many brilliant innovations, their big idea was born out of their need to find a better way to complete a task more easily. Georges…decided to try something different.”
根据第三段中的“At first, the farmers didn’t think much of their idea and stuck to the conventional ways”可知,农民起初仍坚持用传统方式灌溉树苗,由此可推知,他们对Tree T-Pee并不信任。
根据第四段中的“Thinking Georges was new to the field, Kevin stepped out.”
根据第一段中的“Have you ever heard that all British people are labeled as tea-fanatics? Well, ever since I arrived in Austria, I’ve been proving that this stereotype (刻板印象) is real.” 故选A。
根据文中信息“But accepting an unexpected cup of fruit tea is nothing compared to the nightmare(噩梦)of being offered a big cup of black tea when there is not a single drop of milk to be found anywhere in the entire building.”
故选A。
D
根据第一段中的“But many often struggle to keep the pounds creeping(缓慢行进)back on…keep the weight off for good”可知,减肥的人经过一番努力体重会悄悄回来,而更好更长的睡眠模式能长久地使体重下降。
根据最后一段中的“The fact that sleep health is so strongly related to weight-loss maintenance is important since many of us don’t get the recommended amount of sleep needed for optimal(最佳的)health and functioning”可知,事实上,睡眠健康与减肥密切相关,这一点很重要,因为我们中的许多人没有获得最佳健康所需的睡眠推荐时长。 故选A。
再结合本空后面“They need to stay aware of all areas of their children’s lives”信息可知,本空在谈:父母需要密切关注他们的孩子。
本空前面有“Parents must devote themselves to being present for children and spending time with them.”;本空后面有“But every minute that parents spend engaging in positive and meaningful activities with children”,But表示转折,说明本空在谈:在处理事业和成年后的许多复杂问题时,要做到与孩子尽可能待在一起很难。
再结合本空后面的举例“For example, they offer financial support and emotional companionship to their parents.”

此处是make the most of one’s time to do sth.
To enhance our awareness of labor and cultivate the habit of saving food, our class organized a field trip to a nearby farm last Saturday.
As scheduled, we got together at our school gate at 7 o’clock. Then, with a strong sense of curiosity, we took the bus to the destination. Once there, we were shown around the farm, where various animals, plants and crops jumped into sight eagerly. Afterwards, we were divided into different groups to help the farmers with the farm work.
The trip was short, tiring but fruitful, through which we learned how hard the farm work is and the importance of cherishing what we eat.

At that time, the girl happened to stop beside the tree, seemingly attracted by toys. She reached up her tiny hand toward a toy, picked it up, stared at it and talked about something with her father happily. All the people concentrated on the things they were interested in. Nobody noticed the Christmas tree was moving further in her direction. Mr. Carlisle realized the tree hadn’t been properly secured in its stand. In a moment, it came crashing down on the child, in which case the girl and the people around her would be injured.
Mr. Carlisle hadn’t moved so fast in years. He went across the street in an instant and the child was put in his arms at a safe distance from the disaster. At the same time, without thinking, he let out a shout “Get out of the way” to people nearby. All the people ran away in all directions in time, successfully avoiding the collapse. He saved many people from being hurt. Holding little Bethie Simpson tightly against his chest, he stood there with a real smile crossing his face.

Example:
M: Excuse me, can you tell me how much the shirt is?
W: Yes, it’s nine fifteen.
Text 1
M: What a busy year! I’ve read four books, which is only half of the year before.
W: Well, that’s not too bad. I finished six, so one book every two months.
Text 2
W: Can you turn off the TV? It’s time for the children to go to bed.
M: Hold on. I’m going to wash my hands quickly — I just knocked over a glass of milk on them and onto the floor.
W: Just go to wash your hands, dear. I’ll tidy up the floor.
Text 3
M: I was joking when I said I couldn’t come to your party. I should have made that clear.
W: I thought you weren’t coming.
M: I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
W: You scared me when you said you couldn’t come. No worries, though. At least you’re here now.
Text 4
M: Hey, are you using this machine?
W: Don’t worry. I’m done with it. It’s all yours now. I’m going over to the weightlifting area for a bit.
M: OK, I was just checking. I hope you enjoy your workout.
Text 5
M: Look at the prices of the fruit here! Why don’t we go somewhere else?
W: Because this place has the best fruit. I’d rather pay more for good fruit than bad fruit.
Text 6
W: Hello, Tom. This is Jane. It’s Julie’s birthday tomorrow. We are going to the cinema. Would you like to join us?
M: I’d like to, but I have to prepare for the English test on Tuesday. When will the film start?
W: At 14:30.
M: I think I’ll do some review, and then I will join you.
W: OK. We’ll get there by car. But it is more convenient for you to take the subway or bus.
M: I’ll take the subway there.
W: OK. You first meet us at the McDonald’s near the cinema a quarter earlier before the film starts. We’ll be having some drinks there before it starts.
M: OK. See you then!
Text 7
M: So how is everything in the house? Is the air conditioner working well?
W: Well, it makes an awful lot of noise, which makes it hard for me to sleep sometimes.
M: Oh, really? I’ll have someone check it. How about the refrigerator? You said it wasn’t cooling properly.
W: Oh, it’s working fine now, thanks.
M: Good, and is the washing machine OK?
W: Yes, since you had it fixed last year, it has been working well. I want to talk to you about the sofa, though. It’s really uncomfortable. Maybe it’s time to replace it. How old is it, anyway?
M: Well, I admit it is pretty old. About 20 years old, I guess. Maybe it is time to think about a new one.
Text 8
M: What is this book here? I recognize some of the words, but I’ve never seen most of them before.
W: That’s not mine. It’s my brother’s. He is taking a French class.
M: I didn’t know English and French are so similar.
W: Oh, yes. English borrows a lot of words from French, Spanish, and even German.
M: Really? Can you give me some examples?
W: Restaurant, menu, chef, salad…these are all French words. They are pronounced differently in French, though.
M: I never knew that. What else?
W: Let me think…Well, mosquito and cigar are Spanish words, as are many city names in America.
M: So English is really just a mix of a bunch of other languages?
W: I guess you could say that.
M: Language learning is such an interesting thing! Can you teach me some words after school every day?
W: No problem!
Text 9
M: We’re going to have a presentation and a math test. But I haven’t done a thing.
W: You have to cut other things if you want to get good grades.
M: Actually, the presentation is not a big deal, but math has been a rock on my mind. It is so difficult that I don’t understand it at all. I’m really worried now.
W: We could work together. Maybe some discussions can help you.
M: Better yet, maybe you could prepare the presentation for me.
W: Forget it! That would be cheating.
M: All right, all right. I’m just joking. Any more ideas?
W: Well, you just need more practice. Practice makes perfect, you know.
M: Time is limited. We’ll have the math test next Friday, and I’ll have a basketball match this Thursday with my friends.
W: Oh, I think your immediate task is to prepare for the test. I mean you’d better ask your friends to put off your game till next weekend. I’ll prepare some math resources for you and I can lend my notes to you.
M: OK, I’ll take your advice and be absorbed in the test in the following days.
Text 10
M:
Hello, everyone. Today I’d like to introduce Pumpkin Letters to you. Back in April 2020, Arnav Mishra, a high school student, knew that his grandparents were really missing seeing their family. He and his little sister started writing letters and making cards for them. But he didn’t stop there. He knew that there were other grandparents and seniors who were also missing their grandchildren. That’s where the idea of Pumpkin Letters came in.
Pumpkin Letters encourages interested kids to sign up as volunteers on the website. After that, Arnav will send over all the information you’ll need to get started. He collects the completed letters and artwork from volunteers, and sends them to the organizations across the country that support seniors. While the website says it’s for kids aged 8 - 17, younger children are welcome to participate with a parent.
Arnav hosts meetings where kids get together to draw and write letters based on themes like seasons and holidays. So it’s a fun experience for the volunteer kids, too!
Ready to get involved? Sign up today and spread some sunshine, one letter at a time!

Johnny Georges from Arcadia, Florida, had a dream. He wanted to build the business he started with his father to help farmers lower the costs associated with tree irrigation(灌溉).
Like so many brilliant innovations, their big idea was born out of their need to find a better way to complete a task more easily. Georges got tired of packing the dirt around the young trees and removing it the next day to protect the weak root systems of their trees and decided to try something different. Together, he and his father came up with a product called the Tree T-Pee, which uses just 800 gallons of water per tree per year, instead of the typical 25,000 and does a better job. The irrigated water is contained around each tree, and irrigation takes less than an hour, instead of 10 to 12 hours.
At first, the farmers didn’t think much of their idea and stuck to the conventional ways but Georges kept at changing one farmer at a time, believing they would eventually approve the product. Georges got an opportunity to be on the Shark Tank, where he asked for $ 150,000 in exchange for 20 percent of his company.
Georges explained to the judges that his product, which could save farmers 3,000% of their water usage, costs $ 2.95 each to make. They were astonished to learn that he was only charging $ 4.50 each. Investor Kevin O’Leary expressed his desire for a larger profit and the need for a higher sale price — up to $ 12 per unit to attract more distributors (经销商). But Georges said his customers were farmers and he stood firm in his belief to put his customers first. Thinking Georges was new to the field, Kevin stepped out.
John Paul DeJoria, another investor, was clearly touched and stepped in. “What you’re doing is right, and you deserve a chance to make it big. I’d like to be your partner, Johnny, ” said DeJoria.
24. What was Georges and his father’s original intention of inventing the Tree T-Pee?
A. To conserve water. B. To plant more trees.
C. To make their work easier. D. To save irrigation time.
25. What was the farmers’ initial attitude to the invention?
A. Favorable. B. Doubtful. C. Tolerant. D. Unclear.
26. Why did Kevin O’Leary refuse Georges?
A. Georges lacked business experience.
B. Georges’ invention was of little use.
C. Georges asked for too much investment.
D. Georges demanded very high profits.
27. What can we learn from Georges’ story?
A. Traditional skills still have a place today.
B. It pays off to stay true to your values.
C. Curious minds never feel content.
D. The simplest way is the best way.

Since moving to Vienna, being offered a cup of tea has set off a series of alarm bells for me. Have you ever heard that all British people are labeled as tea-fanatics? Well, ever since I arrived in Austria, I’ve been proving that this stereotype (刻板印象) is real.
Over in Britain, we take tea very seriously. It’s a main part of our culture. To us, it can be a way to start your day, a way to offer comfort to others or a go-to peace offering after an argument with a loved one. In the UK, we tend to find an excuse to drink tea whenever and wherever we possibly can. So now you’re probably wondering what the big deal about drinking tea abroad is, am I right?
As you may already know, to the majority of British people, a cup of tea means something very specific: it means black tea with milk. Some like their tea stronger than others, some like it milkier, and some people may even choose to add a spoonful of sugar or two. There is variety within reason, but the principle remains the same and you can relax, knowing no major surprises or disappointments are coming your way. Once you have stepped foot off the British Isles, however, these perfectly reasonable expectations surrounding your “cuppa” are strange to the natives!
I am here to tell you that the world of hot drinks is a daily struggle for us Brits abroad: tea elsewhere in the world seems to be open to interpretation and is hard to adjust to. I’ve accepted too many cups of tea, only to discover too late that I’ve agreed to a fruit tea. But accepting an unexpected cup of fruit tea is nothing compared to the nightmare (噩梦) of being offered a big cup of black tea when there is not a single drop of milk to be found anywhere in the entire building. I’ve realised that it’s going to take me a while to trust people around kettles and teabags again!
28. What can we infer about Austrians from the first paragraph?
A. They think the British are tea-fanatics.
B. They are known to be tea lovers.
C. They are conservative to some degree.
D. They make a good first impression.
29. What is the function of the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2?
A. To answer the former question. B. To summarize the paragraph above.
C. To introduce the following part. D. To raise another argument.
30. What does the author think of black tea without milk?
A. Acceptable. B. Fantastic. C. Average. D. Annoying.
31. What is the best title of the text?
A. Not My Cup of Tea B. The Comparison of Tea Cultures
C. My Experience in Austria D. Tea Culture in Britain
D
Millions of people who are overweight or obese manage to lose weight every year. But many often struggle to keep the pounds creeping (缓慢行进) back on. Now results from a randomized trial conducted by the University of Copenhagen suggest that better and longer sleep patterns could help keep the weight off for good and poor sleep may undermine the effect of losing weight.
It is well known that not getting enough sleep or having poor-quality sleep increases the risk of high blood pressure. Not getting enough sleep has also been linked to diabetes(糖尿病)and heart disease. Scientists now increasingly believe poor sleep may be a contributing factor in regaining weight after weight loss.
In the study, 195 adults who were obese and aged between 18 and 65 followed a very low-calorie diet (800 kcal/day) for eight weeks, losing on average 12% of their body weight. They were then followed for a year. Scientists measured their sleep duration using data from wearable monitors and their sleep quality was measured with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, a self-rated questionnaire.
Those who had slept for less than six hours a night were found to have on average increased their body mass index (BMI) score by 1.3 points after a year compared with those who had slept for more than six hours. Similarly, those who had poor-quality sleep increased their BMI score by 1.2 points after a year compared with good sleepers.
“The fact that sleep health is so strongly related to weight-loss maintenance is important since many of us don’t get the recommended amount of sleep needed for optimal(最佳的)health and functioning,” said Prof Signe Torekov of the University of Copenhagen.
32. What does the underlined word “undermine” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Accelerate. B. Control. C. Weaken. D. Improve.
33. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The reason for obesity. B. The way to lose weight.
C. The causes of poor sleep. D. The bad results of poor sleep.
34. How did the scientists come to the conclusion?
A. By discussion. B. By explanation.
C. By comparison. D. By introduction.
35. What can be inferred from Prof Signe Torekov’s words?
A. Sleep insufficiency is common.
B. Sleep is a good way to lose weight.
C. Poor sleep is the main cause of obesity.
D. More sleep is proposed for most people.
Families can be one of life’s true joys. Whether you have a small family or come from a large clan(家族), you can turn to your family for strength and support.
A loving family can support every member’s physical and emotional needs. 36 Healthy families also recognize each person as an individual, celebrating each family member’s unique differences.
37 Children watch and learn from their parents’ choices and interactions. Having strong, well-defined values that are shared by both parents can show children how to engage with the world in a healthy way.
Families provide protection for kids who aren’t able to take care of themselves on their own. 38 They need to stay aware of all areas of their children’s lives — from school activities to friendships, and be ready to appropriately step in any time kids need guidance.
Building a strong home and family requires commitment. Parents must devote themselves to being present for children and spending time with them. 39 But every minute that parents spend engaging in positive and meaningful activities with children makes a difference in their lives.
In families, adult children take over the role of caretakers or support persons for aging parents. 40 For example, they offer financial support and emotional companionship to their parents. The importance of family follows each of us through every chapter of life.

Every town has a Grinch(令人扫兴的人)and every Grinch has his own story. In the town of Mayfield, Mr. Carlisle was this kind of person. Long ago, he had a lovely daughter and a beautiful wife, but the two beloved ones disappeared from his world accidentally and unexpectedly, leaving him alone to this day, angry, miserable and separated.
He lived alone in a little white house directly across the street from the field where the weekend market was held. On the last weekend before Christmas there would be a Christmas Market. He hated it.
He sat on his porch (门廊) and set his mean wrinkled face toward the families crossing the street in front of his house. Their talk and their laughter angered him. Many times he had written to the government demanding they do away with the market.
The Christmas Market was even worse. Cheerful tunes came from loud speakers while some fool dressed as a Santa rang a bell announcing his presence. Kids screamed and jumped all over. Worst of all was that tall Christmas tree that stood on the other side of the road. He hated it most of all. Every year on the day it appeared, he shot off an angry letter to the government asking it to be removed. It remained tall and directly opposite his front door.
On the Christmas Market weekend, Mr. Carlisle stood on his porch to keep an eye on the goings-on. He calculated every misstep he could find, preparing in his mind all the complaints he would have to the powers. Shouting to everyone who passed by, he had his presence known. Most people ignored him.
When four-year-old Bethie Simpson passed by, she couldn’t help but stop and stare back at the old man. Tentatively(试探性地) she smiled and waved in his direction before her father pulled her away. Mr. Carlisle almost smiled back at the lovely little girl. But years of heartache had made him mean. Putting his half smile away, he focused his hard glare on the Christmas tree. It swung unsteadily.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
At that time, the girl happened to stop beside the tree, seemingly attracted by toys.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mr. Carlisle hadn’t moved so fast in years.

W:Let me think...Well,mosquito and cigar are Spanish words,as are many city names in America.
M:So English is really just a mix of a bunch of other languages?
W:I guess you could say that.
M:Language learning is such an interesting thing! Can you teach me some words after school every day?
W:No problem!
Text 9
M:We're going to have a presentation and a math test.But I haven't done a thing.
W:You have to cut other things if you want to get good grades.
M:Actually, the presentation is not a big deal, but math has been a rock on my mind.It is so difficult that I don't
understand it at all.I'm really worried now.
W:We could work together.Maybe some discussions can help you.
M:Better yet, maybe you could prepare the presentation for me.
W:Forget it!That would be cheating.
M:All right,all right.I'm just joking.Any more ideas?
W:Well, you just need more practice.Practice makes perfect, you know.
M:Time is limited. We'll have the math test next Friday, and I'll have a basketball match this Thursday with my
friends.
W:Oh,I think your immediate task is to prepare for the test.I mean you'd better ask your friends to put off your
game till next weekend.I'll prepare some math resources for you and I can lend my notes to you.
M:OK,I'll take your advice and be absorbed in the test in the following days.
