D.The populations of other species will experience unexpected changes. 14.What conclusion can be drawn from the examples in Paragraph 4?( ) A.Uncontrolled human activities greatly upset ecosystems. B.Rapid economic development threatens animal habitats. C.Species of commercial value dominate other species. D.Industrial activities help keep food webs stable. 15.What is the key advantage of the early-warning system mentioned in the passage? A. It can reverse ecosystem breakdowns that have already occurred. B. It helps predict when human activities may endanger ecosystems. C. It enables ecosystems to quickly recover after crossing the tipping point. D. It replaces mathematical models with practical ecosystem protection methods. 答案:B 解析 - 首先定位原文核心信息:系统基于数学模型,核心作用是“tell us when to adapt human activities that are pushing an ecosystem toward a breakdown”(告知何时调整将生态系统推向崩溃的人类活动),且强调“Prevention is key”(预防是关键)。 - 分析选项: - A错误,原文仅提到系统可能“pull an ecosystem back from the borderline”(将生态系统从崩溃边缘拉回),而非“reverse breakdowns that have already occurred”(逆转已发生的崩溃),表述超出原文范围; - B正确,“predict when human activities may endanger ecosystems”(预测人类活动何时可能危及生态系统),与原文“告知何时调整有害人类活动”的核心功能一致,契合预警系统的本质; - C错误,原文明确“once ecosystems pass their tipping point, it is remarkably difficult for them to return”(一旦越过临界点,生态系统很难恢复),与选项中“quickly recover”矛盾; - D错误,原文明确系统“based on mathematical models”(基于数学模型),而非“replace mathematical models”(取代数学模型),表述与原文相反。 16.E 根据空前一句“Nowadays, in many places of the world, kids play football less than before.” 结合空后一句“Besides, many parents don't know football's real help to kids.” 故选A。 根据空后的内容“Football can improve students' concentration(专注) in the classroom. Five Australian backpackers boarded and struck up a conversation with me. They asked typical travelers' questions—where was I going and why was I traveling alone? My plan was to travel with a friend of a friend, I explained, but when I called her that morning, she didn't pick up and I had no other way to reach her. My stomach was in knots, but I decided to head out anyway, thinking I might run into her if I traveled to Tiberius, where we had planned to go together. “Why don't you travel with us?” one of the backpackers offered. They were experienced adventurers who would work for a few months, save, and then travel for as long as they could. Their current plan was to explore the Middle East and Europe in three months while working in London. It seemed risky to travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes. For the next two weeks, I explored Israel with the backpackers and learned to trust my instincts in all types of new and interesting situations. When they hooked a ride, I took the bus, but when they wanted to steal into the King David Hotel's swimming pool, I led the way. The world opened up to me because I chose to travel alone. I joined complete strangers, who become close friends. Years later, one couple from the backpacking group even flew from Sydney to Phoenix to be in my wedding. The trip was such a special experience that it gave me confidence in all areas of my life. Since then, I've backpacked alone across South Africa, sky-dived from 12, 000 feet in New Zealand and even moved across the U. S. with no job lined up. On my third day wandering in Israel with my new friends, I bumped into the woman I was supposed to meet. Though I was happy she was all right, I was grateful she hadn't picked up the phone. 1.By “My stomach was in knots” (in Paragraph 1) , the author most likely means that she was _____.( ) A.sick of riding on a bumpy bus B.nervous of meeting strangers C.upset about the sudden change D.sorry about the impractical plan 2.what does the underlined expression“stomach was in knots”in paragraph 1probably mean? A angry B. excited C. anxious D. amused 3.Which of the following best describes the backpackers the author met?( ) A.Courageous but disrespectful. B.Jobless and poorly educated. C.Warmhearted and trustworthy. D.Homeless but lighthearted. 4.The author's sixth sense told her that ________.( ) A.she would get along with the backpackers B.it might cause trouble to have a swim C.she ought to stay away from the backpackers D.it could add excitement to get a free ride 5.What can be inferred from the passage?( ) A.Most of the backpackers became the author's lifelong friends. B.The author gathered the courage to be a full time backpack traveler. C.The woman missed the phone call with the purpose of traveling alone. D.The author considered it the best decision of her life to travel on her own. B I don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't aware of the beauty of the ocean. Growing up in Australia, I had the good fortune of having the sea at my side. The first time I went to Halfmoon Bay, I suddenly had the feeling of not being able to feel the ground with my feet anymore. For my 10th birthday,my sister and I were taken out to the Great Barrier Reef. There were fish in different colors, caves and layers of coral. They made such an impression on me. When I learned that only 1 percent of Australia's Coral Sea was protected, I was shocked. Australian marine life is particularly important because the reefs have more marine species than any other country on earth. But sadly, only 45% of the world's reefs are considered healthy. This statistic is depressing, so it's important to do everything to protect them. The hope that the Coral Sea remains a complete eco-system has led me to take action. I've become involved with the Protect Our Coral Sea activity, which aims to create the largest marine park in the world. It would serve as a place where the ocean's species will all have a safe place forever. Together, Angus and I created a little video and we hope it will inspire people to be a part of the movement. Angus also shares many beautiful childhood memories of the ocean as a young boy, who grew up sailing, admiring the beauty of the ocean, and trying to find the secrets of ocean species. 6.What can we learn about the author from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1?( ) A.The author seldom went surfing at the sea. B.The author forgot his experiences about the ocean. C.The author never went back to his hometown. D.The author had a wonderful impression of Halfmoon Bay. 7.According to the second paragraph, what can be inferred about Australian marine life?( ) A.It is escaping from the Coral Sea gradually. B.It depends on reefs for living greatly. C.It may be faced with danger. D.It is protected better than that in other oceans. 8.What did the Protect Our Coral Sea activity intend to do?( ) A.To contribute to a complete eco-system. B.To prevent more marine species being endangered. C.To set up a large nature reserve for reefs. D.To raise more teenagers' environmental awareness. 9.Why did Angus and the author create a little video?( ) A.To urge more people to take action to protect the marine species. B.To inspire more people to explore the secret of the ocean. C.To share their childhood experiences about the ocean. D.To bring back to people their memory of ocean species. 10. What is the best title for the text? A. Respecting the Blue Sea B. The Coral Sea’ s Cry C. A Popular Short Video D. Childhood Blue Memories C How does an ecosystem work? What makes the populations of different species the way they are? Why are there so many flies and so few wolves? To find an answer, scientists have built mathematical models of food webs, noting who eats whom and how much each one eats. With such models, scientists have found out some key principles operating in food webs. Most food webs, for instance, consist of many weak links rather than a few strong ones. When a predator (掠食动物) always eats huge numbers of a single prey (猎物), the two species are strongly linked; when a predator lives on various species, they are weakly linked. Food webs may be dominated by many weak links because that arrangement is more stable over the long term. If a predator can eat several species, it can survive the extinction (灭绝) of one of them. And if a predator can move on to another species that is easier to find when a prey species becomes rare, the switch allows the original prey to recover. The weak links may thus keep species from driving one another to extinction. Mathematical models have also revealed that food webs may be unstable, where small changes of top predators can lead to big effects throughout entire ecosystems. In the 1960s, scientists proposed that predators at the top of a food web had a surprising amount of control over the size of populations of other species—including species they did not directly attack. And unplanned human activities have proved the idea of top-down control by top predators to be true. In the ocean, we fished for top predators such as cod on an industrial scale, while on land, we killed off large predators such as wolves. These actions have greatly affected the ecological balance. Scientists have built an early-warning system based on mathematical models. Ideally, the system would tell us when to adapt human activities that are pushing an ecosystem toward a breakdown or would even allow us to pull an ecosystem back from the borderline. Prevention is key, scientists say, because once ecosystems pass their tipping point (临界点), it is remarkably difficult for them to return. 11.What have scientists discovered with the help of mathematical models of food webs?( ) A.The living habits of species in food webs. B.The rules governing food webs of the ecosystems. C.The approaches to studying the species in the ecosystems. D.The differences between weak and strong links in food webs. 12.On what condition is the strong link between two species found?( ) A.When a predator has a wide food choice. B.When a predator can easily find new prey. C.When a predator sticks to one prey species. D.When a predator can quickly move to another place. 13.What will happen if the populations of top predators in a food web greatly decline?( ) A.The prey species they directly attack will die out. B.The species they indirectly attack will turn into top predators. C.The living environment of other species will remain unchanged. 15.What is the key advantage of the early-warning system mentioned in the passage?( ) A. It can reverse ecosystem breakdowns that have already occurred. B. It helps predict when human activities may endanger ecosystems. C. It enables ecosystems to quickly recover after crossing the tipping point. D. It replaces mathematical models with practical ecosystem protection methods. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Nowadays, in many places of the world, kids play football less than before. 16 Besides, many parents don't know football's real help to kids. Here are some reasons why kids should play the beautiful game. Football is a team sport. Teamwork is a life skill that kids need to learn. Being part of a team isn't just about learning how to work together and share talents. It's also about teaching kids how to face failure. It doesn't end there, either. Being part of a team lets kids know how to take responsibility for their behaviour. 17 Football shapes motor skills(运动技能). Nowadays, many kids prefer to stay in their rooms to have fun through TV, video games and smartphones. 18 It can cause them to lose out on valuable motor skills. By playing youth football, kids get a chance to develop their physical strength and motor skills. 19 Football can improve students' concentration(专注) in the classroom. Besides, football is a fastpaced game, so kids can learn how to solve problems quickly. Plus, football is a sport which involves getting the ball from point A to point B. So kids' visualspatial(视觉空间) ability can be improved when they play the game, which can help them learn subjects like physics. Football improves the personal character. The World Health Organisation recommends kids get at least 60 minutes of exercise daily. This isn't only for the physical benefits but also for the benefits to the personal character. 20 And these kids often have more selfconfidence. A.So they have less time outdoors for sports. B.Football plays a part in school performance. C.Youth football helps improve family relationships. D.Being part of a team can help you make many friends. E.One cause is that many kids are busy with their studies. F.Usually kids who like sports such as football are more outgoing. G.After all, if one player performs badly, the rest of the team will suffer for it. 第三部分 语言知识运用(第一节,共 20 小题;每小题 1 分,满分 20 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Happy Maggie During my childhood I experienced greater hardships than most people go through in a lifetime.
