But what if you’re a student and don’t have enough money for a trip? Don’t worry. Here are some useful suggestions. ●Save: This probably is the most important preparation for traveling. Cut expenses to fatten your wallet so you’ll have more choices about where to go and how to get there. ●Plan ahead: Don’t wait until the last minute to plan your trip. Tickets may cost more when bought on short notice. Giving yourself several weeks to get ready can mean security and savings. ●Do your homework: No matter where you go, research the places you will visit. Decide what to see. Travel books will provide information on the cheapest hotels and restaurants. ●Plan sensibly: Write down what you expect to spend for food and hotels. Stick to your plan or you may not have enough money to cover everything. ●Travel in groups: Find someone who is interested in visiting the same places. By traveling with others you can share costs and experiences. ●Work as you go: Need more money to support your trip? Look for work in the places you visit. ●Go off the beaten path: Tourist cities may be expensive. You may want to rethink your trip and go to a lesser-known area. Smaller towns can have many interesting activities. ●Pack necessary things: The most important things to take are not always clothes. Remember medicine in case you get sick and snacks in case you don’t like the food. ●Use the Internet: The net can help to save money. Some useful websites include www.bargain.com and www.traveling.com. By planning sensibly, even students can enjoy the travel. Your travel experiences will be remembered for a lifetime. 1. What is the first thing you should do before your trip? A. Save money by spending less. B. Get information online. C. Make a plan about the routes. D. Buy tickets in advance. 2. Which of the following advice is not mentioned through this passage? A. Control your desire to spend money. B. Go with a tour team. C. Finish the school work before your trip. D. Work locally while traveling. 3. Where are you most likely to see this passage? A. Travel journal. B. Tourism guidebook. C. Economic life. D. Tour advertising. B Feeling bad after a favorite show ends is common, and it even has an informal name: post-series depression (PSD). Rita Kottasz, a marketing professor at Kingston University, describes PSD as “a feeling of emptiness and upset when something you love finishes”. This experience can be found in TV shows, books, or video games, creating a desire for more. The idea of PSD gained popularity on social media and fan blogs in the mid-2010s, especially during the Golden Age of TV. Kottasz prefers not to use the name PSD, instead calling it “consumer saudade”, a Portuguese word meaning nostalgic (怀旧的) longing. However, a journal editor told her to use PSD because it's widely used outside of research. Kottasz and her co-workers published research dividing the types of PSD based on interviews with fans who felt sad after their favorite things ended. Common emotions included frustration, disappointment, sadness, and emptiness. Some fans even felt that life was less complete or that they had lost “best friends”. While PSD is often connected to TV shows, Kottasz is exploring its connection to other media, such as the sudden break of K-pop band BTS (防弹少年团) and novels like Harry Potter. Younger people are more influenced than older ones, partially because companies like Netflix are always giving viewers new movies and shows. What might surprise many people is that binge-watching does not seem to cause PSD. Instead, long-term watching may be a factor. Kottasz thinks watching a show over several seasons or reading novels across many years strengthens a person’s relationship to the characters (人物). In her 2019 paper, she said a Harry Potter fan who started reading the series at age 9 was "sadly left behind" after the final book and film were published years later. But it isn’t quite as simple as saying the end of a show or novel controls our emotion. Brian Kong, a Chicago-based psychologist, is worried that PSD might not imply (暗示) a cause and effect relationship between low moods and a program’s end. Instead, he says that when viewers experience lasting bad feelings, watching TV might be acting as an anesthetic (麻醉剂) for a deeper mental problem, like how some people with anxiety drink alcohol. In other words, the low mood already existed, and watching the series only masked it. 4. Which of the following is a common response among fans experiencing PSD? A. A fresh sense of purpose for life. B. A deep satisfaction after the show. C. A great sense of loss of best friends. D. A strong desire for a new hobby. 5. What does the underlined word “binge-watching” in Paragraph 5 mean? A. Reviewing every detail of a TV show day and night. B. Watching many episodes (集) of a TV show at one time. C. Following the episodes of a TV show for a long time. D. Reading a book series while watching the TV adaptation (改编版). 6. What does Brian Kong imply in the last paragraph? A. PSD covers up a deeper mental problem. B. Viewers with bad feelings like drinking alcohol. C. Watching TV is the main cause of low moods. D. Watching TV series can make mental problems worse. 7. What might the following paragraphs focus on? A. The solutions to post-series depression. B. The marketing (营销) strategies of TV shows. C. The difference between PSD and nostalgia. D. The influence of social media on fan emotions. C Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. And yes, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to get along well with the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life. In fact, kids who got along well with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable with asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier for them to understand new materials and makes them do their best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues (问题). Here is a question: What if you don’t get along with your teachers? In fact, teachers want to get along well with you and enjoy seeing you learn. Both teachers and students sometimes have personality clashes (个性冲突), which can happen between any two people. If you show your teacher that you want to make the situation better, he or she will probably do everything possible to make that happen. By dealing with a problem like this, you learn something about how to get along with people who are different from you. However, if a certain teacher isn’t your favorite, you can still have a successful relationship with him or her, if you take your basic responsibilities as a student. Here are some of those responsibilities: Attend class ready to learn. Be prepared for class with the right stationery, books, and completed homework. Listen when your teacher is talking. Do your best, whether it’s a classroom assignment, homework, or a test. 8. What will happen to you when getting along well with your teachers according to the passage? A. We will have no problems with study. B. We will have more pleasant time in the classroom. C. We will get the best scores in the exams. D. We will get a better seat in the classroom. 9. What should you do according to the author, if you don’t like a certain teacher? A. We should ignore the differences between the teacher and us. B. We should take our basic responsibilities as a student. C. We should study harder on weekends. D. We should choose a new school. 10. Who is the passage written for? A. teachers B. parents C. students D. graduates 11. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Studying skills for students. B. Useful skills to get along well with your parents. C. The importance of friendship in schools. D. The importance of a good relationship with your teachers. D When we talk about plastic rubbish polluting the earth, we don’t often talk about the environmental impacts caused by fast-food packaging. Actually, this packaging is often coated with environmentally damaging chemicals. Recently researchers from Flinders University and German biomaterials developer, one·five, have started using seaweed (海草) to solve the packaging waste problem of the fast-food industry. Using seaweed to create sustainable (可持续的) alternatives to existing products isn’t a new concept. The idea of turning seaweed into a material to replace bubble wrap (气泡膜包装) was put forward more than seven years ago. This time, the Flinders University materials researchers andone·five are using seaweed extracts (提取物) to develop next-generation coating materials. In fact, these new non-pollutive biomaterials are designed to replace the traditional fossil-based plastic coatings that are used in most oil-proof fast-food packaging. The new coating not only meets the required functionality standards of traditional oil-proof packaging materials but also works to create an environmentally sustainable solution. It is as recyclable as paper, explains Dr Zhongfan Jia, a lead researcher from the Flinders Institute. “The seaweed extracts have a similar structure to the natural fibres from which paper is made,” says Dr Jia. “Our novel treatments boost the oil-proof feature of the seaweed through simple adaptation while neither affecting the biodegradability (生物降解力) nor recyclability of the coated paper.” “The product could be great news for the environment. We are able to reduce harmful plastic pollution with it,” says Claire Gusko, co-founder of one· five. Now Flinders University and one·five are trying mass production from the laboratory to the factory. Although achievements like this are definitely worth celebrating, we can’t just stop at seaweed packaging. We need to use seaweed and other sustainable tools to effectively help reduce our environmental impacts and make real changes. 12. What’re researchers from Flinder University and one five doing? A. Producing seaweed extracts. B. Solving the food waste problem. C. Turning seaweed into bubble wrap. D. Using seaweed to develop new coating materials. 13. What is the traditional plastic coating like? A. Cheap. B. Oil-proof. C. Recyclable. D. Sustainable. 14. What do we know about the seaweed extract coating? A. It is a novel concept. B. It has been put on the market. C. It is environmentally friendly. D. It is coated with damaging material. 15. Why does the author write the text? A. To stop people from using plastic package. B. To advertise for a new environmentally friendly product. C. To introduce a replacement for traditional packaging material. D. To warn readers of the environmental impacts caused by fast-food packaging. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Improve Your Public Speaking Skills Many people feel nervous about speaking in public. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse sill, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore. They were upset and decided something needed to be done to stop the beautiful sea becoming consumed by waste. One weekend,Maria and Peter brought a big bag to the beach and determined to clean it up. Sweat streamed down from their forehead while they bent down and picked up the plastic bags. To their disappointment, after a day’s hard work, there were still many plastic bags lying on the beach or floating in the water. Going home with aching legs and arms, Maria and Peter were almost defeated by a strong sense of failure. That night over dinner with their parents, the pair ate silently. Noticing their low spirits, Mother asked gently, “You two looked so down. What happened?”Exchanging glances with Peter, Maria replied in a low voice,“It’s those annoying plastic bags. We tried to clean up but it was just impossible.”Understanding the pair’s disappointment, their father patted them on the back and comforted,”Well, it’s really hard for just two of you to fix such a big problem.”“Just two of us.”complained Maria and Peter, looking at each other.Suddenly, an idea lashed through their minds, their eyes shining with excitement.“Yes,that’s the point! 【答案】4. C 5. B 6. A 7. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15.
